    I flew buddy box for the first time with my 6 year old today on the Cub. He did pretty well and we had a blast. The bombs were the hi-light of the day. Without gear, I'm getting 12 minute flights off of a 1300mah 3s.

    • @stevefox3763
      @stevefox3763 6 років тому

      Aaron Roehm I've built this plane but haven't flown it yet, I have a 1300mah 3s on order but was wondering if this produces enough lift to cope with the weight of a 2700mah 3s? I have a few of those as I fly my 450 size helis on them.

    I have to say they have a way of teaching to the simplest form. I'm a disabled vet with some brain issues, i downloaded the Nutball and after watching about 20 videos I learned how to build, adjust, program AT10 and learned a lot about aerodynamics. these guys are GREAT. thank you for the help in getting some form of my life back.

    If you are a beginner who thinks they want to fly with 3ch on just elevator and rudder, I seriously recommend building it with ailerons, you can always put the ailerons on an aux channel to disable them but still have the servos powered to disable them on the stick but honestly, rudder and elevator is harder to control and needs a much larger area than flying bank and yank with ailerons and elevator.
    I never touch the rudder, it only functions as a trim surface on my planes, bank and yank is both easier and more responsive.
    The ft simple cub is a capable plane when configured right, mine runs a racerstar 2212 1400kv motor swinging a 9x5 prop, 30a esc, two cams on a switcher allowing forward and down facing views (very useful when flying at altitude to keep track on location in relation to the ground ), it runs a 800mw vtx and battery is a 2700mah 3s.
    My cub regularly flys above the clouds, enough thrust to climb at a reasonable angle but is also has a decent level flight speed.
    The setup I run will give around 10 mins of flying throttle flight but I've managed to get 22mins out of a battery when just cruising.
    Check out my channel to see what this plane is really capable of :)

    I also made snow skids (although there's no snowfall in most parts of my country )
    Also made bombs from small plastic bottles (50ml)

    a way to water proof regular white or black foam board is to spray it with clear coat spray paint with very light coats and sprayed from about a foot or more away

    • @harpoon_bakery162
      @harpoon_bakery162 5 років тому

      was this done in this video? it would have had to be waterproofed before hitting the water, correct?

    • @jasonhurdlow6607
      @jasonhurdlow6607 2 роки тому

      @@harpoon_bakery162 The foam board he's using (and the speed build kits use) has water-proof paper on it already (the brown stuff). So long as you seal the edges as he does with hot glue, they are water-proof. If you're using Adam's Ready Foam from the dollar store, you will need to water-proof it with oil-based polyurethane (brush on, let soak for a minute, wipe off), or another method. Be careful with sprays as most of them eat foam. Do tests on scrap foam before you try on your built pieces.

  • @erad05
    @erad05 5 років тому

    I also appreciate very much, that you remember the "metric friends" overseas..... It's great to know the measurements.
    By the way, on my speed build kit of the pontoons, the holes were on both pontoons on the same side instead one left one right. just to mention.

      It's really easy to control, can fly very slow or quite fast and is very STOL capable and if you are feeling adventurous some 3D, and I do not know if there is an ft space walker but with the storch you can make your own, the landing gear is quite tricky to make.

    So these are what you need to build the planeFT Power Pack C - Radials I mean like those everything you need come in this pack apart from the foam board

    • @jasonhurdlow6607
      @jasonhurdlow6607 2 роки тому

      No, the power packs come with motor, ESC, servos, and props. For a full build you'll either need to get the speed-build kit, which includes the foam, pushrods, skewers, control horns, etc... or you'll have to source those yourself (FT sells most of them). You'll also need batteries and a transmitter and receiver. You can source everything yourself for a bit cheaper than you can get them from FT (especially if you're buying in quantity to make several planes), but for your first build it'll be far easier to go with the speed-build kit.

    just a question for anyone watching this who knows anything about RC flying. If you are a pilot does it make it easier to pick up RC aircraft. I used to be into rc at a real young age but I couldn't grasp it and I'm considering trying it again. I don't know anyone really who is involved with the community in person.

    • @microbuilder
      @microbuilder 7 років тому +1

      I'd think it would, at least to some extent. If you fly full size planes, you understand the aerodynamic basics like stalls, center of gravity, how the control surfaces affect the plane, etc. I imagine there's still a bit of learning curve, getting used to the transmitter and the electronics, but its a head start.

    • @jasonhurdlow6607
      @jasonhurdlow6607 2 роки тому +1

      Yes, it will help. The hardest thing for you will probably be controlling the plane when it's flying toward you, as you'll tend to get things backwards (very, very common for newbies). Practice on your computer with a sim (PicaSim is free, RealFlite is $$$) first until you get the hang of it.

    Can we takeoff from / land on grass easily with the floats?

    • @BMKknight
      @BMKknight 7 років тому +1

      try it and if you find it sticks to much try putting some packing tape on the bottom it might make it ride over the grass better,you will need more power than with wheels I have done it with my super cub LP

    That was so weird - I paused at 23:47 to try to read the name of the glue gun, as my current one is a piece of junk, and when I resumed you immediately said it.

      Get the adjustable one from FT instead. It allows a 'medium' heat, which is perfect.

    The paper will not last long if it gets wet. The floats should be painted and sealed, even filled with foam so to not loose buoyancy.

    • @harpoon_bakery162
      @harpoon_bakery162 5 років тому

      This should happen even without the floats, as dew will do the same thing. moisture = paper-death

    Do you absolutely have to use a glue gun or could you get away with CA?

    • @jakedassan4117
      @jakedassan4117 7 років тому

      Nick Ward no CA will dissolve foam in most cases and is much too thin. hot glue is the way to go

    • @MichelPASTOR
      @MichelPASTOR 7 років тому +1

      I don't know how much cost CA around where you live but here it is much more expensive than hot glue sticks. CA cost around 1€ per 1 gram where hot glue sticks cost 8€ per 1000 gram. And as Jake said it would not work as it would make holes in the foam by dissolving it. What good reason do you have for wanting not to use hot glue ?

    • @nickward6502
      @nickward6502 7 років тому

      Michel PASTOR just curious. Never used hot glue don't want to pay for stuff I don't have to have. I'll learn how to use one, no problem.

    • @MichelPASTOR
      @MichelPASTOR 7 років тому +1

      A tool well worth its cost. I found even cheap glue guns work pretty good but buy a high power one (>50W) if you want to use it like they do in this video. You won't be disappointed. Hot glue is strong yet flexible and has good adhesion on most things. It can be removed pretty easily with alcohol so it is safe to use around electronics and other delicate parts. You can use it also for other purposes than gluing. For example reinforcing the aileron hinges like shown in this video. Works very well.

      Michel PASTOR agreed hot glue guns are handy for much more than just planes I use it all the time.

      Very true. Check your Manual....
      Ailerons are usually Channel 2.

    • @jasonhurdlow6607
      @jasonhurdlow6607 2 роки тому

      @@CarminesRCTipsandTricks AETR is pretty common as a default. In that case it's Ailerons in channel 1. (Aileron, Elevator, Throttle, Rudder). If you are running each aileron to it's own channel instead of using a Y cable, they'd be on 1 and 5.
