Anyone else think these build videos are therapeutic? I plan to build these pontoons in the future but watching video now just helps melt away stress. Thanks FT!!
Kevin Dobson havent built any foamies yet but have watched hours worth of build guides :'D
Really calming
Guys look up asmr
Totally! I've watched every build video at least once. They go nicely with a glass of wine ;-)
yeah after watching this video over and over I think i can now scratch skech the pontoon plans onto the foam
Josh has a great, calming voice and does a thorough job of explaining the process.
I have to say they have a way of teaching to the simplest form. I'm a disabled vet with some brain issues, i downloaded the Nutball and after watching about 20 videos I learned how to build, adjust, program AT10 and learned a lot about aerodynamics. these guys are GREAT. thank you for the help in getting some form of my life back.
I flew buddy box for the first time with my 6 year old today on the Cub. He did pretty well and we had a blast. The bombs were the hi-light of the day. Without gear, I'm getting 12 minute flights off of a 1300mah 3s.
Aaron Roehm I've built this plane but haven't flown it yet, I have a 1300mah 3s on order but was wondering if this produces enough lift to cope with the weight of a 2700mah 3s? I have a few of those as I fly my 450 size helis on them.
i just spent $300 and i’m so glad i did since i’m 12 and get to build one of y’all’s planes
A lot of money for a kid! But it is an amazing hobby, way more rewarding in life compared to watching a screen for hours and hours. I'm 39, just getting started myself!
your videos have a great positive mood and that helps after things we've been through
BIG TIME KUDOS!!! Thanks for the efforts in helping to make this hobby enjoyable to all, the issues and topics you'all cover is great, ..and done in such a manner that most can easily follow! High 5 and pats on the back!
Bixler is the Bob Ross of UA-cam videos. I don't even take high blood pressure medication anymore... I just watch these
Amen to that. He and Bob Ross would get along just fine.
Came here to mention how much Mr. Bixler's build videos remind me of watching Bob Ross as a kid... was late, lol
Wally B Totally thought exactly the same thing watch the Simple Cub build over the weekend! Instead of happy trees, we have a table that's our friend.
We don't make mistakes, just happy little bevel cut accidents. ;)
FliteTest The fruits of your labor are very visible, thank you for what you do- and how you do it.
Thanks flite test just finished building my simple cub as my first plane and looking forward to progressing and then getting these upgrades on
If you are a beginner who thinks they want to fly with 3ch on just elevator and rudder, I seriously recommend building it with ailerons, you can always put the ailerons on an aux channel to disable them but still have the servos powered to disable them on the stick but honestly, rudder and elevator is harder to control and needs a much larger area than flying bank and yank with ailerons and elevator.
I never touch the rudder, it only functions as a trim surface on my planes, bank and yank is both easier and more responsive.
The ft simple cub is a capable plane when configured right, mine runs a racerstar 2212 1400kv motor swinging a 9x5 prop, 30a esc, two cams on a switcher allowing forward and down facing views (very useful when flying at altitude to keep track on location in relation to the ground ), it runs a 800mw vtx and battery is a 2700mah 3s.
My cub regularly flys above the clouds, enough thrust to climb at a reasonable angle but is also has a decent level flight speed.
The setup I run will give around 10 mins of flying throttle flight but I've managed to get 22mins out of a battery when just cruising.
Check out my channel to see what this plane is really capable of :)
I also appreciate very much, that you remember the "metric friends" overseas..... It's great to know the measurements.
By the way, on my speed build kit of the pontoons, the holes were on both pontoons on the same side instead one left one right. just to mention.
*AWESOME build guys.*
*Thanks for all of the builds and tests you do.*
I upgraded my cub
By adding a tail wheel then a greater powerpod with a motor equivalent to power pack C
I also made snow skids (although there's no snowfall in most parts of my country )
Also made bombs from small plastic bottles (50ml)
Showing off nicely, Josh! Thanks for the fine demonstrations!
I'm building my dream home on a lake, so this will be one of the first tasks after settling in... I can't wait!
@R L how'd it go?
Watching josh cutting 45° bevels is so satisfying
Im going to use the same technique for snow skies for winter time
awesome mods I was always amazed by your guy's cleverness
a way to water proof regular white or black foam board is to spray it with clear coat spray paint with very light coats and sprayed from about a foot or more away
was this done in this video? it would have had to be waterproofed before hitting the water, correct?
@@harpoon_bakery162 The foam board he's using (and the speed build kits use) has water-proof paper on it already (the brown stuff). So long as you seal the edges as he does with hot glue, they are water-proof. If you're using Adam's Ready Foam from the dollar store, you will need to water-proof it with oil-based polyurethane (brush on, let soak for a minute, wipe off), or another method. Be careful with sprays as most of them eat foam. Do tests on scrap foam before you try on your built pieces.
Great upgrades josh👍🏻..loved the video
Would it be a good idea to make little rocket gliders out of cheap bottle rockets?
Isopropol alcohol will loosen hot glue. It un-bonds the glue and the glue just pops right off easily. I scratch built the Cub; nice project.
don't even have a ft cub but still love this video
Then you need to build one, they can be so much more than the 'trainer' that flite test designed it to be :)
Steve Fox
Ya know it costs like $250 right
We love flitetest - Abi 6 y.o!
Hey guys, I just started building my ft cub, I was just wondering if I need to spray the floats with anything to make it water resistant because I am using the dollar store foam not the FliteTest stuff. Awesome design by the way FliteTest!
Great stuff! 18:31
Mighty mini storch!
Or mini cub or Cessna!!!! Or anything bushplane/ stol!!!!!
Squirrels Production storch is best 4 channel high wing plane ever
Xavier Schario how so? I'm thinking about making one, but I'm torn between a space walker or that
It's really easy to control, can fly very slow or quite fast and is very STOL capable and if you are feeling adventurous some 3D, and I do not know if there is an ft space walker but with the storch you can make your own, the landing gear is quite tricky to make.
Love from Bangladesh
Make a video how to put a fpv camera in it and the other fpv stuff.
Can the floats be used on a Tiny trainer?
I am about to buy a tiny trainer get started kit, and will create some wheels as a guy named Torf from the forum did, and to be able to use the floats to would be good
If you can make doublers like the ones in the Cub... It should work.
can u guys make a mighty mini version of the cub?
Nice Idea, I love this plane 👍🏽
Plans of pontoons please 🙏
My one critique is that the camera angle seems perfect for making his hands block everything you want to see.
great video as always use guys are the best
Will these work for the bushwacker? Or will it mess up the cg?
do the control horns come with most servos or the model if not do you buy them separately ?
Control horns come with the speed-build kits. You can also order them separately from FT, or just make your own out of hobby plywood or any suitable material. You could 3D print them as well.
@FliteTest please upload the scratch plans for the pontoons! They are not on your website 🙁 also, it would be super cool if you uploaded both flat and vhull designs 👍👍
Are the float plans available online? Can't find them anywhere on the page it's linked to.
I need that shirt!

Im building my second one at the moment I learned to fly on my first .crashed and repaired it many times .my one complaint was that there wasnt enough room for all the elctronics so my new one I am buildind a little larger . the first one I built from a plan that acording to the scale was 3.3333 to one scale on the plan this new one Im muliplying all measurements on the scaled plan by 4 instead of 3.3 Its working out well it will probabbly be a week before I get it completed and fly it but I'll let you know how it goes , I was going to buy a kit from you but when I went to order it said back order .,Too impatient to wait so I scratched build again , love your products and Videos , wish I was in the states so i could visit you .
Love the shirt. Will they be available soon?

I have a question ,I want to mount the echiene aio fpv camera to a plane running a 1800 mah 3s 40 c lipo ,how do I mount it? if you can answer or make a tutorial please link me a video
amazing floats flitestest. really wanna build em. is it just me or did anyone see the build plans for the float phantoons??
hey man, where can the plans for the floats be found?
If you go in the forums and type, simple cub plans, and download the tiled version, it is part of the print file to make the paper template.
only josh B can make those score cuts perfect
I need the shirt!!! Is it not out yet? Or where can I get it? It was not on the store yet.

Is there a way of adding flaps?
Will you be getting the FT Cub into the UK stockists as when trying to order from your site, estimated postage to UK was $99!
could I mod it to add r channel and bombs if I cut out room for more servos?
Hello, the power pack link does not work. What kind of motor an batteruy do i need?
I fly quads FPV.
I want to get an FPV airplane. My fixed-wing LOS experiences have been tragic.
What additional gear, Etc. will I need to make the transition from multi-rotor to fixed-wing?
What would be the maximum take off weight for this plane?
Is there ever gonna be a pontoon plan?

LORSQUE L'ON VEUT MODIFIER LE PIPER AVEC DES AILERONS FAUT IL GARDER LE DIÈDRE D'ORIGINE OU NE PAS EN METTRE ? MERCI
Question: Why nickle weights for bomb weights?? Why not use steel washers?? Save your nickles for more washers!!
That was so weird - I paused at 23:47 to try to read the name of the glue gun, as my current one is a piece of junk, and when I resumed you immediately said it.
Get the adjustable one from FT instead. It allows a 'medium' heat, which is perfect.
its very good.
you guys should design some skies
It already flies in the skies... 😋
Скачать рискунорк деталей самолета можно ?
what materials do you use
have the pattern link for the floats been erased or moved? because it doesn't work.

@@pixs1036 thanks now can print out pontoons.
perfect!!!
how are the pontoons waterproof? is it your special brand of foam board?
George Hiotis It's water proof foam board that FliteTest has Adams make for them exclusively. If you buy a kit, they come cut out with this board, or you can buy it by the box at their store.
So these are what you need to build the planeFT Power Pack C - Radials I mean like those everything you need come in this pack apart from the foam board
No, the power packs come with motor, ESC, servos, and props. For a full build you'll either need to get the speed-build kit, which includes the foam, pushrods, skewers, control horns, etc... or you'll have to source those yourself (FT sells most of them). You'll also need batteries and a transmitter and receiver. You can source everything yourself for a bit cheaper than you can get them from FT (especially if you're buying in quantity to make several planes), but for your first build it'll be far easier to go with the speed-build kit.
The speed build kit for the floaters is no longer available, where can I download the build plans ?

IKEA has paper meter long tape measures for free!
Nice !
are you in america
Just outside Washington, DC.
I am an Iraqi and I live in Iraq
gt- 92 I've seen this comment before what does this have to do with anything he's talking about?
What are those pushrods made of?
music wire.
Hey flite test crew.. Or anybody else. what plane is in the background? transparent orange covering?
Can you build a V22 Osprey, please. Sorry for the Bad English I'm from Germany
I wonder if the kit comes with nickels.😂
Nope, still broke.
Can we takeoff from / land on grass easily with the floats?
try it and if you find it sticks to much try putting some packing tape on the bottom it might make it ride over the grass better, you will need more power than with wheels I have done it with my super cub LP
BMK1957 knight Thanks for the answer and the tip! :)
Cool
What planes would you recommend after the Supercub S?
Ft storch
You should make a yak 9.
What's the mame of the papel that you used
It's ma FliteTest Brown Foam Core moard papel
are you in america
I heard a nice health beat of glue 300 times XD

You'll want eggs zackly a heathly bead of glue LUL
just a question for anyone watching this who knows anything about RC flying. If you are a pilot does it make it easier to pick up RC aircraft. I used to be into rc at a real young age but I couldn't grasp it and I'm considering trying it again. I don't know anyone really who is involved with the community in person.
I'd think it would, at least to some extent. If you fly full size planes, you understand the aerodynamic basics like stalls, center of gravity, how the control surfaces affect the plane, etc. I imagine there's still a bit of learning curve, getting used to the transmitter and the electronics, but its a head start.
Yes, it will help. The hardest thing for you will probably be controlling the plane when it's flying toward you, as you'll tend to get things backwards (very, very common for newbies). Practice on your computer with a sim (PicaSim is free, RealFlite is $$$) first until you get the hang of it.
The paper will not last long if it gets wet. The floats should be painted and sealed, even filled with foam so to not loose buoyancy.
This should happen even without the floats, as dew will do the same thing. moisture = paper-death
My kit was missing the nickels :(
I always think A = part goes Above, B = goes Besides, C = folds Completely
😊
Very nice Video, thumb up.I would appreciate a comment from them on my channel, if you have free-time. Thank you and from Switzerland greetings Tom
Strong like....
I'm a big fan pls help
Ok, you're helped! 😉
I would love to try building some of your designs but I need good permanent work place... I can see this Isn't your first build...
Yeah......... He's done this once or twice
hi!
"healthy bead of glue" IDK how i feel about that
Do you absolutely have to use a glue gun or could you get away with CA?
Nick Ward no CA will dissolve foam in most cases and is much too thin. hot glue is the way to go
I don't know how much cost CA around where you live but here it is much more expensive than hot glue sticks. CA cost around 1€ per 1 gram where hot glue sticks cost 8€ per 1000 gram. And as Jake said it would not work as it would make holes in the foam by dissolving it. What good reason do you have for wanting not to use hot glue ?
Michel PASTOR just curious. Never used hot glue don't want to pay for stuff I don't have to have. I'll learn how to use one, no problem.
A tool well worth its cost. I found even cheap glue guns work pretty good but buy a high power one (>50W) if you want to use it like they do in this video. You won't be disappointed. Hot glue is strong yet flexible and has good adhesion on most things. It can be removed pretty easily with alcohol so it is safe to use around electronics and other delicate parts. You can use it also for other purposes than gluing. For example reinforcing the aileron hinges like shown in this video. Works very well.
Michel PASTOR agreed hot glue guns are handy for much more than just planes I use it all the time.
