its interesting how the original game test seemed to imply that Mewtwo was born from mew and that they might have even fiddled with the embryo when Mew was still carrying it, the "horrific gene splicing experiments" but then later on they started calling Mewtwo a clone

Alchemy: the science of understanding, deconstructing, and reconstructing matter. However, it is not an all-powerful art. It is impossible to create something out of nothing. If one wishes to obtain something, something of equal value must be given. This is the law of equivalent exchange; the basis of all alchemy. In accordance to this law, there is a taboo among alchemists. Human transmutation is strictly forbidden. For what could equal the value of a human soul?
I always had a theory that the reason Mewtwo succeeded while Ditto failed is because they didn't have enough DNA from Mew so then used Amber´s (or any humans depending on the canon) DNA on Mewtwo. Since not having enough of the DNA Ditto would just be one half/being just a slime pile of DNA while with Mewtwo using the Human DNA as the second half to help it form but in the process making Mewtwo more humanoid and Intelligent and aware.
So your theory is they couldn't correctly clone mew due to the genetic instability, so they used human DNA as a stabilizer through hybridization. Enhancing the structure in the process and providing a more 'human' thought process, with out the more human moral compass.
I always thought they used Giovanni or Fuji, but along the same lines as yours. Sadly the ditto theory was disproven though. I also made a theory back when PE came out, after Green tried to catch me with a pokeball the gears turned... SHE'S THE GAME VERSION OF AMBER AND LIVED THE PROCEDURE! Especially after they stated Leaf and Green were 2 different people, that solidified my theory for me.
The hatred for humanity can be as a result of its human reasoning trapped in a pokemon body knowing it will be a slave to a child. Going more into this artificial pokemon like voltorb can be a result of trying to bring back the extinct hisuian one and made byproducts like multiple as a result. They could have did that to test out the process before making mewtwo.
So, Depending on the canon, Mewtwo can be a Pokeculus if it's mostly Pokemon DNA used, or a Homunculus if there's a significant amount of Human DNA used, lets say at least 33%
8:55 "Mewtwo's height, weight, elongated fingers, and overall more humanoid shape could all just be the human DNA expressing itself in mixture with the Mew DNA." Also could explain the poor guys existential crisis.
Just a few things that I noticed: 1. With Ambertwo and Mewtwo, there was also Charmandertwo, Bulbasaurtwo, and Squirtletwo (they all visited Mewtwo and Ambertwo in their dreams, but they died due to complications). They also had the same markings as their final form clones in the movies. 2. For the gene-splicing, for those of you who still don’t understand, think of it on how Ingen combined dinosaur DNA, but filled in the gaps with frog DNA; they had to do gene-splicing to create a full creature. 3. For your cages, I noticed one of them was a Lockstin hybrid combined with some Umbreon. What was the rest of it made out of? I know that’s a reference to that Full Metal Alchemist scientist who combined his dog and daughter to create that chimera. Edit: Thanks for all the likes, and as for No. 3, I had no idea that I crossed a line. I sincerely apologize.
8:16 I remember when I was younger, I discovered this very theory as the basis for a concept known as "pokemorphs" in the context of pokemon gentically modfied into humanoids. This was long before "furbait" pokemon were more frequently introduced.
I wish the mailman question was that deep but sadly there’s just routes they deliver so everyone is covered, meaning they could deliver their own mail but they also might not
Thumbnail maker: so theres a lot of empty space next to Mewtwo in the thumbnail. We could probably fit some short word in there. Any ideas? Lockstin: *looks at the month* Lockstin: yeah, I have an idea...
Yeah. Im a big fan of lockstin but in this case i wish he opted for a thumbnail that didnt have the word homo pointing at a feebleminded mewtwo. I mean homunculus doesn't even start with homu.
Everytime someone mentions alchemy, I just imagine the narrator from FMAB in a whimsical way... *Alchemy* like John Hammond saying "welcome to Jurassic Park" or Spongebob saying *"imaginaaaaation"* one of the greatest quotes in history. I'm not as much of an alchemy nerd as you, but I do love it still, the cross roads between magic and science.
9:09 The manga had a _lot_ of weird stuff, at least in Gen 1. A fusion between the legendary birds, around half of the Kanto gym leaders being with Team Rocket, an eevee that could go back and forth between the gen 1 evolutions before naturally evolving into an Espeon and arboks had different patterns that gave them special abilities and Agatha's could outright _switch_ patterns. -Also it was b*he*ded. It got better.-
I think lockstin is really smart for finding these connections, I wanted throw this out there: I think that the description of alchemy used in these videos is potentially inaccurate by modern scholors and spiritual beliefe systems. Where it is taken to be a pseudo-science, i beleive alchemy has been more recently redetermined to have been a primarily spiritual focus, used for differing purposes from modern science. At least this is my interpretation of some of the literature on the matter.
I would say sort of, MewTwo was still made with some human DNA (Blains DNA) and presumably mews DNA/RNA. So not a true clone but I'm hesitant to say it's a humunculi
@@christianlorre alright, so in the timelines where MewTwo has human DNA it's considered a Homunculi, and in timelines where MewTwo has no human DNA it's considered a Chimaera (similar to Type:Null), correct?
There is a Monster in My Singing Monsters that got released in June 2022 named “Monculus” It’s the monster that represents “life formula”. It does indeed have alchemy inspirations.
While on the topic of alchemy, I'd like to see videos on chimeras and hybrids... which would line up WELLLLL with the next fossil video lol. For reference for those that don't know, the difference between a hybrid and chimera, a hybrid is only 2 animals mixing, your ligers, your mules. Meanwhile a chimera is 3 or more animals, the generic Greek chimera everyone knows with the lion, goat, and snake heads, the Indominus Rex from Jurassic World, THUS we come back to the gen 8 fossils, are they hybrids, or chimeras? Are there more mingled in besides the 2 fossils? Is there a more in depth sciency reason it's a chimera even though it's only 2 animals?
genetically speaking, a Chimaera is any organism that has more than one set of DNA. Physically one, but genetically two or more. For example a kitten absorbs one of its litter mates in the womb and the resulting baby has a split facial pattern in its fur. Even Humans can be Chimaera, through similar circumstances. For the Galar Fossil Mon tho, I wouldn't really consider them Chimaera or Hybrids. I'd consider them Mistakes.
@@nataliecoronado4206 I too would consider them mistakes, but that they are alive something fishy going on. Well that does make for some interesting science stuff, I suppose a liger has 1 set of DNA, what you describe having more than 1 set sounds more like mutants, but I suppose that could qualify as a chimera too. I know humans can, conjoined twins, or there have been cases of them absorbing their twins too, though didn't consider that angle for all this, so thank you for that. You can't even consider chimeras just a biological mistake because so are hybrids, it's more on a smaller level, which probably how Tucker was able... to do the things he did, otherwise you'd just call those... experiments hybrids. Hybrids are also probably capable because they're from similar families despite still being distant, like you wouldn't cross a wolf and a lion, but you can have wolfdogs, ligers, mules, Wholphins etc. Thank you for your contribution to the class.
I know everyone is talking about the actual contents of the video but can we just talk about 1:37 which implies that all the former arts of Lockstin are different creatures and current Lockstin has just locked them away in a cell. And here I was thinking he was just evolving like a pokemon
This got me thinking: What about the characters from Pokemon ReBurst, where people would be able to fuse with Pokemon that are in crystals to transform into a human with Pokemon attributes and abilities? Could they be considered homunculus?
The pokemon in question are complete, and separate individuals just trapped inside of a crystal and used as an object. They even gain experience for any battles the human gets into while using them as a power-up, can evolve while inside the crystal, and are able to chat with people holding them. But like, the ONLY way to get the pokemon out is to smash the crystal. I'd imagine these things are pretty rare because most not-evil people would eventually break the damned rock and just have a normal pokemon instead of a sentient skinsuit to wear.
@@Sin_Alder chimera is a body with two or more different individual cells, meaning a hybrid(which only has one type a cell, a fusion of the different variety) is not a chimera, Frankenstein monster would be a chimera due to all the parts being to different humans. A natural example is when a woman is pregnant, the baby has loose cells that end up flowing through the mothers body for a time, these cells can actually help the mother after birth to, helping repair minor things in the body. Another is when a woman's womb actually had completely different then the woman herself, meaning her children weren't even her biological kids despite giving birth to them Edit: I realize I just commented relating to reburst rather then mewtwo, apologies 😅, the Burst would be chimera in nature
If I remember correctly, in the movie they got Mew's DNA from a fossil. It would make sense that Mewtwo would have human DNA, not just as a stabilizer but also to fill in the blanks of what parts of the Mew DNA the fossil may not have had. I read another comment saying that this makes sense why Mewtwo has the ability of logic and reasoning, but they're stuck in a Pokémon body so it could be why their first reaction was to lash out at humanity. They may have human levels of reasoning, but they still have that animalistic, childish Pokémon side to them.
Anybody else have to do a double take when Lockstin started playing music used constantly in False Swipe Gaming's competitive pokemon videos? I'm sure it's a Pokemon track they're both using, but it took me a solid minute to figure out what my ears were hearing. Great video Lockstin! I support the idea.
I wouldn't be surprised if FMA's deep references and themes to alchemical lore influenced some of these alchemical references we've been seeing in pokemon for so long now, and you've been exploring on this channel for years now. It'd make sense! Either way, I love the nod to it in the intro. It's my favourite series and it's influenced me in a lot of ways.
I absolutely love when you talk about alchemy on the channel. Back when you were releasing all the Alola theories, Alchemy became a bit of a hyper fixation and I always found the spiritual aspects to it interesting. Fascinating mythos too.
"Is there a never ending line of mailmen!?" I was only a seasonal Christmas employee, but while I was there I worked in the back of one of the two post offices in town (Or rather, the big town closest to my rural one). Some of the carriers, I believe, lived on the other side of town, so the other office did their mail. But for those who lived on our side of town, they simply did not work the route their house is on. While rural post offices that have one letter carrier obviously cannot do that, I would suppose that they simply take their own mail home at the end of the day. I'll have to ask the post master next time I am there.
One theory idea I’ve been pondering is Giratinas origin form. Notice how in comparison to Dialgas and Palkias it actually loses its legs whereas the other two, while they don’t gain any legs other than palkia they do become more equine like, like arceus. Giratina however, actually starts with legs and then loses them for those wing things that look more like arms. I just thought maybe it got rid of its legs to try and look less like arceus but I’m doing so it gains the spider legs/arm things and sort of ends up referencing the 1000 arms of arceus? Idk just some food for thoughy
I like this video. I'd say its more a Chimaera, at least by the modern use of the word, but as the ancient creature is very distinct lion goat thing and not like Mewtwo at all, I think calling it a Homunculus works just as well. I blame Fullmetal Alchemist for making me think any creature of mixed dna is a Chimaera lol
Nowadays a chimera is used to refer animals and people with more than one genetic code, also to a group of fish related to sharks and stingrays. Is just the legendary Chimera was so famous we end to called any fused creature as one.
Surprised to see there was no mention of Green, being a clone in the games, I think its kind of implied due to her weird connection with mewtwo, blaine mentioning her and also the number of pods in the basement in that game matching up with the movie special
Something just occurred to me. Where mewtwo's tail begins, it looks to be about where the belly button is. What if its tail is meant to represent an umbilical cord or something?
Crybabies: "The anime and the manga can't be used as a source! We have to go with what the games tell us, everything else is worthless!" Sane person: "Okay, so what do the games tell us?" Crybabies: "Absolutely nothing, they refuse to elaborate in any depth on any topic. Also mewtwo is completely helpless against a small shrub."
Wtf dude.... "Is there a never ending supply of mailmen?!" I love the randomness of that. Then again, you have slowly been opening up throughout the years to be more comical in your videos. Keep up the good work.
There's a possibility that there _is_ a Homunculus in the Pokémon Games - or at least in *one* particular reality... In _Let's Go! Pikachu_ and _Let's Go! Eevee,_ the possibility that an 'AmberTwo' actually *survived* and exists: *[This is my personal explanation for her Survival]* In an inverse process to the creation of Mewtwo, Dr. Fuji's Daughter's DNA was interlaced with a small amount of Mew DNA from the very same Fossil, with the intention of increasing the chances of mental reconnection with her ingrained consciousness; this was different to how AmberTwo was made in the Anime Short, and could be why she didn't survive the integration process; because of this, Mewtwo awoke much calmer than in the Anime, with AmberTwo (later renamed to *Green!* ) keeping the Pokémon in check until it was picked up by Giovanni... The two Clones never saw each other again - this led to a similar result in the other Continuities, where Mewtwo broke out of Giovanni's control and escaped to Cerulean Cave. *Green* (Amber's Clone) however, had some struggles with her new Life: the Mew DNA that helped her survive the Cloning Process also gave her Instincts and Senses more akin to a Pokémon, and explaining the reasons to her caused a misunderstanding that Humans were very similar to Pokémon in nature, and She was created stronger than natural Humans; when Green became of Age to become a Pokémon Trainer, her first instinct with any new encounter would be to throw a Pokéball at it! Hearing of Mewtwo in rumours and Gossip, something long dormant in Green's memory clicked, and reawoke her connection with Mewtwo. She decided to become strong enough to be given entry to Cerulean Cave, and be the One who catches Mewtwo - so they could finally be together again for eternity...
Bonus points, Ambertwo actually had memories from the original amber. Just as most fossil pokemon are shown remembering their lives from before they died to become a fossil. It isn't JUST cloning devices these guys made, it's full on resurrection.

Your finding alchemy layered deep into the Pokémon lore is one of my favorite things in the series to date. I’ve been around since plain gameboy days. And all of these potential threads leading back through all of Pokémon makes my heart so happy! To see an underlying theme that could tie the entire series and it’s stories together is beautiful!! Fun fact: I LOVE FMA, moreso brotherhood. I even have tge humunculus tattoo where greed has his marking. Left hand. I even often argue other sins are a form of greed, ultimately making greed the ultimate... As lust, gluttony, and even pride can be considered greedy sins.
Mewtwo isn't a Homunculus. If Humans are Homunculus and Animals are animalculus then obviously Mewtwo is a Pokemonculus. In all seriousness, fun video. I've missed FMA.
A minor point of in game evidence for Mewtwo being a homunculus is that in the Let’s Go games (yeah I know they’re technically a spin-off and thus dubiously canon, but considering they’re the most current retread of Kanto I’m willing to say “close enough”) Leaf/Green/Blue depending on what you want to call her as her name varies across media, is heavily implied to be an in game substitute for Amber in the Pokémon movie. Seeing as she has little memories of life before meeting the player-perhaps Mewtwo attempting to cause her amnesia in order to hide better; you can fight her in Cerulean Cave-an area well known for Mewtwo and that almost no trainer goes there; she has the Mewtwo Mega stones that she gives to you upon beating her; and she cannot easily tell the difference between human and Pokémon by asking the player “would you like to be my Pokémon too?” likely due to being developed as a clone of Fuji’s daughter that grew up in a test tube with Mewtwo. A lot of this is explained better in MatPat’s Game Theory video of the same topic which I would recommend watching. All in all though, if Leaf IS meant to be an Amber stand-in it makes the likelihood of Mewtwo having human DNA much higher as Fuji could’ve used some of hers. This may even explain one of Mewtwo’s weird design characteristics-his massive thighs. There’s no real in lore explanation as to why his thighs are so big seeing as his Mega forms both have smaller thighs, Y especially with X’s being a little smaller but much more muscular meaning that such large thighs are perhaps a slight detriment in combat, something that Fuji would have probably genetically modified to not happen; that is, unless he took some of his daughter’s DNA to make Mewtwo and along with his more human attributes and intelligence the large thighs came as a slight side effect. It would also explain why such a feminine trait would be on such a masculine Pokémon (yes I know Mewtwo’s genderless but a LOT of media refers to him as ‘he’ and considering his VA for the original movie that seems to be the intent of the designers.) It’s honestly the only explanation for his thighs that makes sense other than some designer was just down bad one day-which given what Mewtwo’s original VA sounded like might’ve been the point-but isn’t a valid enough explanation for just one attribute of his body, especially when Pokémon designers want to do a more adult design like Lopunny or Salazzle they commit to it throughout.
Honestly it's been something I only notice every once in awhile with Mewtwo, the 'overly feminine' hips and thighs. And that's only because you can't avoid it on certain sites that we don't talk about in polite company.
The only problem with Mewtwo's design being evidence for female human DNA being used is you also have overtly masculine female Pokemon like machamp or Mr. mime. Its unlikely they thought that far when designing them, especially considering back then sprites were designed first, then they worked backwards to create the official art and such. I do think however that its still likely Dr. Fuji used his daughter's DNA, or at least his own if not both. Not only does it make sense to if humans are considered a higher lifeform, but Fuji was also secretly working on cloning his daughter while using Mewtwo's creation as a means of research and testing. Naturally the best way to do that would be to use actual human DNA so as to more easily extrapolate the process. If it worked for Mewtwo then it should in theory work for Amber.
Yeah, for people looking for drama. Anyone who actually watches the video would easily be able to tell that the word Homo is referring to the prefix and not a slur.

But even the smartest Pokémon, Alakazam, simply did not have the sort of brutality needed for a soldier. It could follow brutal orders, but it would not give them. But what IF….

...You didn't mention Mewtwo's megas. This also plays into my theory for Green, why gamefreak stated her and Leaf are 2 different people. I'll get to Green in a bit that's a whole other paragraph, this one is for Mega Mewtwo. As I always viewed its megas as awakenings for it, if it uses Y it accepts its Pokemon origins, and realizes it is unique, not just another clone of Mew giving it a new form, and while ironically this makes it shrink to Mew's size and look more like Mew, it is its own being, now far more powerful with its psychic powers than any other Pokemon, stat wise it even surpasses Arceus the God of Pokemon, the only other Pokemon to do so are Primal Groudon and kyogre that are slghtly weaker, and Mega Rayquaza who has the same stat total as Mega Mewtwo. Meanwhile Mewtwo X is it realizing its human attributes, thus it looks more human, gains the fighting type and grows in size (even though regular Mewtwo is already taller than average human). Ok... my Leaf Green theory (pun intended)... Leaf and Green are the game equivalents to Fuji's daughter. Now originally this might have not been the case, Green was cut from the game because not enough data, however after many years and the movie, Leaf came out, and then even more time goes by we finally get Green in PE to which gamefreak explicitly states they are 2 different characters... thus multiverse and being Amber. Green was a successful Amber (or maybe Green is just her name in the games, I'm still going to utilize Amber for reference towards the failed clone), hidden away by Giovanni maybe, or Fuji, because they are still new to this world. At some point Green is released, or maybe she runs away, and tries to find Mewtwo, hence why you run into her in Cerulean Cave. She then tries to catch you, because she honestly doesn't know the difference between Pokemon and people, she thinks of them all as the same, she's naive, and like Mewtwo thinks anyone can be her friend. That you got to Mewtwo 1st she must catch you then you can both be her friend. Meanwhile Leaf is either a successful clone that is integrated and grows up like a normal human girl, or... maybe she is the original, she never died isn't a clone, which also means either Fuji could be Red's dad too, maybe Red himself is a clone since they're swaps, or the more likely, and because they 1 didn't think this thought through back then so they just have the same mom, or despite being the same NPC sprite they are 2 different moms, and Leaf exists in a world where Red either isn't born or lives elsewhere in the world... wheeew, anyways, in summary Leaf exists when either Red doesn't or isn't in Kanto, and is most likely the original not cloned and alive, or (the least likely case) is a clone that grew up like any other regular person. Amber is the movie version and dies while Amber 2 also dies, and Green is the successful clone in the games that wasn't integrated into society, possibly hidden away for who knows how long. While I don't believe Red is a clone could also explain his lack of father, however... if Red is the son of Fuji then he wouldn't have had the motivation to make the clone. How is this relevant to Mewtwo?... well aside from obviously the possible connection between Green and Mewtwo in PE like Amber and Mewtwo, like Mewtwo would this make her a homunculi? What other homunculi could be roaming around the Pokemon world? While seemingly disproven, that theory of Ditto being failed clones would that make Ditto a homunculi? Are there other human Homunculi? Other Pokemon? Could Kris be one because she didn't make it into the remakes and was replaced by Lyra.
I also know the irl reason Pokemon protags never have fathers is a reflection on Japanese society same with Earthbound why Ness' dad is a phone, why many Japanese games or anime don't have 1 or both parents. I was just using it for an in game theory possible reasoning.
I know this is a bit nitpicky, but Mewtwo wouldn't be a homunculus, because he is definitionally not human. Even if he has dna, he's not genetically similar enough to fit into the reproductive species model.
curse my squeamish self for looking away from the video when the gore warning was there and then glancing back at the video at the absolute worst time x_x this video is super interesting though, and that intro was amazing!
I suppose if clones do count then yeah 100% Mewtwo does, and you equally 100% used my theory. After I found out about the manga while sure not canon, I think them implying Mewtwo with human genes, makes think this was the intention, the question then becomes who's? My thoughts are obviously Fuji, or Giovanni, I think in the movie's case it was Fuji, the games could be either. Also while you said the english mistranslated this is fixed a bit in FRLG since there's a picture in the lab on Cinabar I think that has Blaine and Fuji, so I think they both totally made Mewtwo in the games, then in the movie just Fuji, and the manga it was just Blaine (I think I haven't actually read them yet). You also didn't mention the megas, its possible connection to Leaf and Green the characters, I'll leave it in another comment otherwise this will be too lnog and no one will want to read it.

Chimerculi
the blaine part isn't consistent being through all mewtwo stories.

@@nataliecoronado4206
I too would consider them mistakes, but that they are alive something fishy going on.
5:28 obviously the mailmen deliver each other's mail. rather than a never ending chain of mailmen its more of a circle of mailmen
5:42 My mind immediately jumped to Gabe from Malignant. Just imagine if Mewtwo started moving and using its moves entirely backwards.
I mean kind of, born from a sample of Mew’s DNA so they aren’t exactly a copy of mew.
This got me thinking: What about the characters from Pokemon ReBurst, where people would be able to fuse with Pokemon that are in crystals to transform into a human with Pokemon attributes and abilities? Could they be considered homunculus?
Animorphs/Pokemorphs?
Nah, they all exist naturally, they have the ability to fuse together temporarily, but they exist naturally as separate entitys
Seems more like a chimera situation.
Another is when a woman's womb actually had completely different then the woman herself, meaning her children weren't even her biological kids despite giving birth to them
Edit: I realize I just commented relating to reburst rather then mewtwo, apologies 😅, the Burst would be chimera in nature
The thumbnail got me thinking "damn this guy really thinking mewtwo is gay"
If I remember correctly, in the movie they got Mew's DNA from a fossil. It would make sense that Mewtwo would have human DNA, not just as a stabilizer but also to fill in the blanks of what parts of the Mew DNA the fossil may not have had. I read another comment saying that this makes sense why Mewtwo has the ability of logic and reasoning, but they're stuck in a Pokémon body so it could be why their first reaction was to lash out at humanity. They may have human levels of reasoning, but they still have that animalistic, childish Pokémon side to them.
There have been a lot of comments making connections to Jurassic Park, and getting the DNA from a fossil just deepens the connections.
@@PansyPops Makes sense. That's probably the closest example, and the fossil Pokémon concept most likely came from Jurassic Park anyway.

“All in an attempt to bring her back in some form.”
Sounds familiar in a way
Bonus points, Ambertwo actually had memories from the original amber. Just as most fossil pokemon are shown remembering their lives from before they died to become a fossil. It isn't JUST cloning devices these guys made, it's full on resurrection.

If someone's wondering why you start talking about alchemy with Pokemon, they are very new here
Dude weren’t those theory videos like two years ago
"You're probably wondering why I'm bringing up alchemy in a Pokémon video."
Nah, I've been on this channel for quite a while.
Nah, is just Game Freak never acknowledge female players are a thing until recent years.
I like how at 6:47 Dobbs is a failed Lockstin clone. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

THE THUMBNAIL IS SENDING ME😭😭 ON PRIDE MONTH TOO⁉️⁉️⁉️
y is the quality on this video sooo much better
...You didn't mention Mewtwo's megas.
Well now I'm convinced Mark Zuckerberg is a homunculus
I know this is a bit nitpicky, but Mewtwo wouldn't be a homunculus, because he is definitionally not human. Even if he has dna, he's not genetically similar enough to fit into the reproductive species model.
curse my squeamish self for looking away from the video when the gore warning was there and then glancing back at the video at the absolute worst time x_x
this video is super interesting though, and that intro was amazing!
