      Jill Maurer I kept it. I had a few friends and my husband smell it and they all confirmed it smelled like cologne, not cigarettes. I figured I can get the cologne smell out eventually. The bag is white inside and out and looks completely clean. I absolutely love it and will try a few things you described in the video to get the smell completely out. It already dissipated a bit just due to passage of time. Thank you again for your help!

    Love your videos Jill. I used these methods for a very large lined LV Carry All: after carefully turned inside out, carefully clean with diluted Ivory dish soap solution, for spots carefully used alcohol then Diluted Dawn dish soap solution, rinse well trying to keep the exterior dry, while still turned inside out placed in sunlight for 4 hours a day for 2 months at least, turned it back right side out and stored stuffed with acid free tissue paper and those humidity control containers(very carefully because if they spill your leather is RUINED) This took at least one year to get it smelling like new again. Worth it because I purchased nearly free.Outside looked nearly new.

    Great tips. I feel the smoke smell is the most difficult to get rid of. I put baking soda in the plastic container and poke some hole on the cover. It is the fastest way to fade the smell. The other way is fill a lot of clothes to the bag and close the bag. The smell will transfer to the clothes. But you have to keep changing new clothes every month. It will take about 3-5 months to get rid of the smell. Thank You so much for sharing and have a great Thanksgiving Day dear❤️

    The water and vinegar method is great, putting it out side to air in the shade. Repete this method for 3 days and your done. This works with leather jackets and clothing and pillows. Basically any thrifted item. These things happen to objects that are in your closet with no air circulating. So 1 excellent tip is to open your closet and leave it open while your away from home. Jist close it when you get back. Have the window open if you can but never do this when it's raining or very hot. 😁 your welcome

    • @nicolestewart
      @nicolestewart 4 роки тому +1

      @@JillMaurer it really does work. Just make sure you blot the excess vinegar mixture out before airing as you don't wanna fully saturate it . But it must be done and put out in the shade to dry hanging up so fresh air can circulate. 3 days and your done. Also don't put the bag straight into the closet when your done. Just leave it in your house in the open air for a week so it smells fresh

    Great video Jill!!! I have only had 1 bag where I noticed a very harsh smell, what I did was I left in my attic and made sure the bag was wide open. Hi, yes I ended up keeping it! I sprayed a natural enzyme carpet cleaner inside and it worked, but I sprayed too much: it leached into the Vachetta chaps on my bag and partially stained them. It was shocking and my heart sank, but I thought I’d try to get the stain out. It took a long time...hours (I used cotton pads and leather cleaner), but you can’t even tell there were stains and the odor is so light it’s almost unnoticeable. I did thoroughly condition the leather several times with Apple Care. No damage, no smell --so glad!!!

    I purchased a pre-Loved Chanel Classic double flap and it reeks! Every time I wear it the musty old smells sticks with me. When I open the flap it makes me so nauseous. My fiancé is not very observant but the smell gets to him and is very noticeable. He feels like an old lady (his words) has entered the room. I’m honestly not sure the smell will ever go away...I have to wonder if all vintage Chanel leather smells this way. I have another vintage Chanel flap bag that’s half jersey and half leather. Buy the cheapest vodka you can find. Put some in a spray bottle and spray the inside of the bag. The alcohol in the vodka kills the bacteria and mould that makes the smell. Let the bag air dry or put out in the sun to speed up the drying. BONUS: you can finish off the vodka in a martini while you wait for the bag to dry :-)
