Truly a beautiful song. Windy and Never my Love are very good also Great voices, harmonies .I'm.listening to music over 60 yrs never seen 5 singers harmonizing. A short lived but a very good group.
I disagree that they were ever underrated. Keep in mind that there was so much going on in the music world at that time! Remember the British Invasion? Motown? Etc..
Back in the day, it was so refreshing to hear this group bring out a new song. There really was no other band with their type of music and harmony. They were so good at what they did, they ended up creating their own genre of music. Their music was clean and extremely well performed, it was a wonderful break of the other music of that time. Excellent review.
The Association is a class act all the way around. When their lead guitarist and songwriter, Jules Alexander, left, they replaced him with another influential member. When Jules came back, rather than have drama or get jealous like most other bands, they just decided they’d both stay and play guitar! They are also so unique because they have no lead singer - they all have their chance on vocals! Absolutely goated band and heavily underrated.
It's 1966 again, I'm watching Lost In Space on a Philco B/W Tv made by Ford Motor company. Cherish by The Association is playing on the AM Radio my Mom is listing in the Kitchen.
The Association had about five major hits from 1966 through 1969. I lived this history. Cherish, Windy, Along Comes Mary, Goodbye Columbus, Never My Love .I was only sorry they didn't have more hits, they were great singers. Cherish and Never My Love are like wedding songs.
One of the most beautiful songs, I was a kid, but I liked all the songs of The Association, even more in Rock music. Also great "Windy, Everything that touches you".
She doesn't want to be with him or so he thinks as he's "not gonna be the one to share your dreams not gonna be the one to share your schemes that I am not gonna be the one who shares what seems to be the life that u could cherish as much as I do yours..." so unrequited love I believe. 😢❤
I heard this first at a grade school party at my friend Joey's house in the country above Buck Branch in SW Missouri. My friend Marcy B since deceased and I won the school dance off with this song.l miss you Marcy and all my friends who are gone
I remember this one, a smooth song with some real nice harmonies. They had another popular one called 'Time for Living' . There were some great songs around at this time. Good that you can hear these old ones on your channel Angela-Colin Ward
I have a soft spot for this era of colorful 60's pop. Sometimes refereed to as "Sunshine Pop." It's characterized by elements such as sophisticated chord progressions, lush harmony vocals and beautiful and delicate string arrangements. The Association was definitely a part of that sub-genre, as well as groups like Spanky and Our Gang, The Turtles, and The Fifth Dimension. Great era in music!
You nailed the interpretation of the lyrics haha!. And to be honest, 90% of the lyrics of 60's songs are code for getting into someones pants. Heck, every decade, for that matter.
This is a beautiful song. Whether it is the original, the David Cassidy cover, or the latest, greatest version of the song IMO by the lovely, supremely talented Alexis Connolly. ❤
When you made your comment at the end, it made me think of this recommendation for you! I don't recall if I've mentioned this movie before, but here goes anyway! If you want to watch a movie that has to do with teenage and adolescent angst, insecurity and all those other things, I suggest you watch American Graffiti which was filmed in 1973, but the movie takes place in 1962 with a bunch of great music from that era! It is a pretty interesting story! Bye again!
As an east coast kid(North Jersey) growing up in the 70’s, I was always fascinated by that “California sound”. I would sometimes listen to AM radio and WABC with Harry Harrison some of this.Along with some of The Beach Boys stuff🎼🏄🏿♂️
As a young person growing up with The Beatles, Stones, Aretha, Ray Charles, etc, I considered this band too “bubblegum”. Now in my 60’s and an amateur musician, I am amazed at how talented this band was.
This song is about a guy who realizes that even though he "cherishes" someone, they are NOT ever going to cherish him. It's a sad lament being sung by a man who knows that the woman he's in love with is NEVER going to love HIM. It's about knowing that something you desire, the love of this woman, is NOT ever going to happen. The lyrics are about realizing that this dream will ALWAYS be just a dream. He says that he knows that the words do not exist that can persuade this woman to love him. The lyrics are beautifully written, but they make me sad. I identify with how it feels to know that something you want and need, like being loved by someone you "cherish", will always be out of your reach.
And yet… he is ennobled not broken. He sees that he is worthy of her, more so than the other guys she seems to swoon over. She can’t or won’t see his value.
Get a load of the band members suits, looks like they are ready for church, and that is how it was back in the day, lol. Thanks for the memories Angela.
I always loved how Madonna's song "Cherish," which is completely different in every way to this one, nevertheless pays homage by repeating one pivotal line from here, "Cherish is the word I use to remind me of your love..."
Have all this bands music. There's another song that might interest you called ' Come Saturday Morning ' by The Sandpipers. It was the theme song for the movie ' The Sterile Cuckoo ' that came out '68. Both are good. This was one of Liza Minellie's early movies she was in.
Angela, my request is a group contemporary with The Association. Try “It’s a Beautiful Morning” by The Rascals. Also 1966 if I recall correctly. Guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
N̈ Forget some more question mark I'll call you okay. But yeah, I'll horror that's it's it's wonderful, but it's not my favorite. It's not on the favorite siden
The album/single vocals were a lil tighter than this live cut...but between the Association and the Mamas and Papas..reminds me of my older siblings choir concerts...its not a deep rabbit hole, but it's enjoyable..thanks
The Association is one of the great, under-appreciated bands of the 60's!
I enjoy listening to Along Comes Mary by The Associations
Truly a beautiful song. Windy and Never my Love are very good also
Great voices, harmonies .I'm.listening to music over 60 yrs never seen 5 singers harmonizing. A short lived but a very good group.
"Everything That Touches You" is one of their best songs that many people don't remember. They were not that short lived though.
I second Never My Love. Even more romantic than Cherish
“Never My Love” was the 2nd most played song in the US in the 20th century according to the licensing agency BMI. Not to bad.
Whomever picked this "gem"....Great freaking pick!!! 🎶💯🔥♥️
One of their best songs: "Never My Love"
I can remember watching this band perform live on TV. The year was 1966, and this was one of the very great songs to come out of this decade.
Me too, remember watching them on tv. They were huge!
Ah, the '60s. Great music came out of that decade. Lots of it.
Diana Ross and the Supremes,
Ain't No Mountain High Enough,
Come See About Me, Baby Love.
I was 10 years old and already a music lover. I remember when this came out. What a great era of LOVE .... Thanks !!
So was i.
It does my heart good to see the younger generations appreciate music from the 60s.
Oh lordy, such a beautuful song from my past. My ex-wife and I danced so much to this one. Great memories Angela. Thank you.
I was 2 when this came out..thank God for an older sister, brother & sister that loved music too as I heard it through them.
This is a great song by a group that is underrated, and most people forget about. They are wonderful and sound wonderful.
I disagree that they were ever underrated. Keep in mind that there was so much going on in the music world at that time! Remember the British Invasion? Motown? Etc..

This is a great group. They have several great songs.
I was 13 when this came out-57 years ago, makes me feel like I did back then
This song isFull of harmony and loved.thank for sharing dear friend
It's 1966 again, I'm watching Lost In Space on a Philco B/W Tv made by Ford Motor company. Cherish by The Association is playing on the AM Radio my Mom is listing in the Kitchen.
You must do their hit Windy next !!! Was a #1 on the Billboard Top 100 and a catchy , feel good song !!
The Association and their lady friends invited me to join their table at a gig in Disnyland in 66. Nice people
It was also played in the 1986 movie pretty in pink when Annie Potts was remembering her prom dance with Molly Ringwald. Great film, good music
Remember this playing over the AM radio in our car.....
I love when you listen to the oldies and get to enjoy real talent
I have fallen for this young lady and her love of all types of music.
The Association had about five major hits from 1966 through 1969. I lived this history. Cherish, Windy, Along Comes Mary, Goodbye Columbus, Never My Love .I was only sorry they didn't have more hits, they were great singers. Cherish and Never My Love are like wedding songs.

so unrequited love I believe. 😢❤
these guys were great, this was on the radio all the time back then
Great song, what harmony.
❤❤❤Love The Association ❤❤❤ I have 3 albums by them.
I heard the Stanford University men’s choir perform this A cappell, it was sublime.
The vocals are amazing! At the time I thought this group was a bit wimpy for my taste. But I now appreciate their talent.
Beautiful song from a more romantic time and place!
Wonderful Harmonies and tempo
Excellent choice Angela! They had great music back then!
My memory of me on the beach in California this song playing on teh AM Radio my older sister had brought and i was in Heaven.
THEY ALL SING!
Next you should listen to their song..."Everything That Touches You" My favorite by them.
The American Number Ones of 1966 are something else and this is one of the best.
I remember this by David Cassidy RIP from the Partridge Family 1972 I think. Peace out
My high school girlfriends and I's favorite song! Brings back sweet memories!
The music we grew up with and cherished
I heard this first at a grade school party at my friend Joey's house in the country above Buck Branch in SW Missouri. My friend Marcy B since deceased and I won the school dance off with this song.l miss you Marcy and all my friends who are gone
WOW. memory shocker ! I played in a band that was the opener for these guys in 1967 😁
I remember this one, a smooth song with some real nice harmonies. They had another popular one called 'Time for Living' . There were some great songs around at this time. Good that you can hear these old ones on your channel Angela-Colin Ward
Gorgeous #1 song❤

David cassidy sang this in the 70s love his version 😊
YES! Me too. I miss him.
I liked that version too
Angela, I was 9 years old when this came out. Great choice for a great song...
Prettiest . Song . Ever .😊
Beautiful song from my childhood! Thanks Angela
Always a lovely day with the lovely Angela reacting to music.
great harmonies hard to believe its over a half century old.
Other great association hits-everything That Touches You, Time For Livin, No Fair at all and Never My Love.
Love this song

Smooth as,my fav with never my love.David Cassidy had a huge hit with this song, his had a powerful ending which i prefer.
First song I ever slow danced to… I was 13….
As a young person growing up with The Beatles, Stones, Aretha, Ray Charles, etc, I considered this band too “bubblegum”. Now in my 60’s and an amateur musician, I am amazed at how talented this band was.
Check out their song “Never My Love”(1967). I think you’ll like it.
Wonderful song and band!! I wore out their albums back in the days!!😅

My favorite Association song. I would love to hear one of the big cover bands on UA-cam do this tune.
Foxes and Fossils are an EXCELLENT cover band. Every cover they do is incredible. 😊
Get a load of the band members suits, looks like they are ready for church, and that is how it was back in the day, lol. Thanks for the memories Angela.
We just saw them last fall.
I remember when this came out; all the girlies loved it. My sister had the record - not me!
One of the greatest make-out songs of all time.
Classic
Great song and group. I was born in 1966 . :)
Windy & Never My Love
I always loved how Madonna's song "Cherish," which is completely different in every way to this one, nevertheless pays homage by repeating one pivotal line from here, "Cherish is the word I use to remind me of your love..."
You should check out their recording of Everything That Touches You!
Great song, damn I forgot how many words are in this song
Awesomeness

Never My Love is my favorite jam from them. This one is just ok for me.
I really miss the Harmony bands of the 60's
Again Jim Yester you make Alabama proud 😅❤
Ahhhhhh, first girlfriend. Thanks
Angela, my request is a group contemporary with The Association. Try “It’s a Beautiful Morning” by The Rascals. Also 1966 if I recall correctly. Guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
As a kid, I was into Hendrix so I thought they were corny, but they definitely have a place in the great songs of the 1960's.
I think he IS using the word “Cherish” because the other guys are saying I love you or I need you
Song is actually about obsession and kind of creepy in a vein similar to Every Step You Take.
That's been a Conundrum for the Ages. Is what they say coming from the heart, or an organ located much lower?
I know 2 other songs by them! Along Comes Mary and Windy! I like these 3 songs but I don't know if they have other hits! That's it, goodbye you all!
The really sad part is I took this for granted and just now really appreciating the Association.
N̈ Forget some more question mark I'll call you okay. But yeah, I'll horror that's it's it's wonderful, but it's not my favorite. It's not on the favorite siden
Emotional rescue is what I do emotional rescue.I could come to Angela because I'm a shining arm.Shiny shining arm coming to angela's emotional rescue
The album/single vocals were a lil tighter than this live cut...but between the Association and the Mamas and Papas..reminds me of my older siblings choir concerts...its not a deep rabbit hole, but it's enjoyable..thanks
You said you'd like to here this song in acapella. I bet Home Free could do it.
2:27 - Can be Danny Sanderson
