Just want to say again that your instruction is so complete. You cover everything even the small things. I have done this block in sample quilts and as an exchange both were fun. It is going to be fun to do this one. For the new quilters you covered all the bases and gave them ways to make this block a successful block to build thanks. Looking forward to the rest
I'm looking forward to this - what a great project! I have a bundle of fabrics that I love so much that I purchased not only a fat quarter bundle, but several pieces of yardage. It's teals and grays which is probably my favorite color combination. I made one quilt, and I still have a ton of it left, so I've decided to do this Quilt Along with all those fabrics. I'm working on Block #1 today.
I have always loved this block. Thanks for the idea of 24 fat quarters for the year of blocks. Having those ready will be good, but i can use some of the leftovers to make the blocks all relate. Good job.
Hey, Becca! Love this! Great explanations and techniques for beginners, yet not drawn out. The perfect video to quilt along with. Your 1-page pattern with block size options is nicely laid out. I like your suggestion re combining 4-patch 6” blocks with 12” blocks-or 4-patch 3” blocks with 6” blocks! Thanks, and stay well! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
Thank you Becca! I love the Churn Dash block. It is so easy and alone makes a "Dashing" quilt. Put together with the other blocks you have planned, I am sure it will be even more charming. I cannot wait for the next one. Blessings, Andrea, aka, Mama J.
You should! I'm doing the 12" (obviously) for the tutorial videos - but, I'm thinking about using some of my favorite scraps to do a mini version of the sampler with 3" blocks!
This is great thank you, one thing for beginners perhaps show how to cut from the fat quarter neatly and not over cut etc, may be a basic video with tips and tricks, like starting sewing with a piece of scrap fabric
Good tip. I have a few of those as standalone videos from back when I first started my channel, I've been meaning to re-do them, but just haven't gotten around to it.
Hi Becca! I watch you from Canada . Love watching you very much . I will do these blocks with you. You are so talented and excellent quilter. You explain instructions very clearly and show so much passion in what you do. Thank you very much for all your videos and I do hope you get 50 Thousand subscribers ❤️❤️🇨🇦
Ooooh, see - so many uses! The pattern PDF is great because it's just laying out the block in 4 sizes...for free! You can use that to make as many of these in any of those sizes you'd like. Or just do one and do the sew along! This is a 'make it your way' quilt along!
Thanks Becca for this QAL. I enjoy your teaching style. Your block is very pretty and I hope to gain more confidence along the way! I am excited to pick out my fabrics❣️
This video just came up as a suggestion from UA-cam and I watched it all the way through and can’t wait to get started on this quilt along! You have an excellent teaching style, thanks! 😊
I just found you channel and ill be joining in. Im making a sisters quilt with my other 2 sisters so I may add this block to that. I havent quilted in years so I am grateful for your video.
The Churn Dash is a favorite of mine. Looking forward to the qal. Still deciding on my fabric choices but I am so glad I don’t have to choose from any of those fabrics.
It was a challenge, for sure - but, we'll see how it comes together. I'm going to allow myself a pass to re-make any block I like, as long as I use fabric from a Cotton Cuts block, so perhaps...this one can be re-done somewhere along 2025!
I think so! I don't think any of our blocks will need cuts bigger than 10" - I'm just not sure how many layer cakes you may need. Make sure to have a good bit of background to help!
It'll be awesome! Easy blocks, nothing too stressful (just a quick sew once a month from your stash or scraps) - and at the end of 2025...we'll have a quilt! 😊🧵❤️
Hi, and thanks for your tutorial. I noticed you cut a square from the corner of your fat quarter. Can you share how you do that? The reason I ask is because I used a rotary cutter to do that, and discovered, after I put my quilt top together, that I had cut beyond my measurement and then ended up using that fabric (that was cut into) in another block, and that cut was now on the top of my top (does that make sense?). Obviously, I should be more careful in the future, but I am trying to find out how others do it. Do you use scissors at the corner?
I have a couple question. 1. I have a lot of holiday material. I like to use valentine . How should do block. Design with solid or 2 different valentine designs per block
Hi! I got the 301 from Facebook Marketplace - it was tan when I got it. I sent it out to be custom painted - we went with a Red, so I call her 'Ruby'! The foot I'm using is the 1/4" foot for a slant shank machine - picked it up from Featherweight Shop!
Thanks for a great tutorial. I started doing Donna from Handmade by Ying’s sampler sew along but a block a week was too much for me. I was doing the 9” blocks so I can incorporate those blocks with these ones and I’ve already done the churn dash and have my fabrics picked out so that’s a huge win for me. I’m a VIP but was gifted this membership, will the VIPs get access to these videos?
Everyone has access to the video, since they're public on UA-cam. I had a setting set incorrectly before the video launched - but it should be up and running now!
Hello lovely idea .i just dont know what to make just yet but a seasonal quilt like xmas would be one step away with a project done for next xmas for shore .say jf it was xmas fabric you would use xmas fabric?and what size is this going to be when done.thanks
Hi Tina - the size of the quilt will largely depend on whether you're going to do the 3", 6", 9", or 12" blocks - and how many of them you'll want to put into the quilt. If you're going to make the 12" versions, as I am in the video, and you're going to follow just that layout, you'll have a quilt that will measure around 60" x 75"
Hello if i make teh wuilt 3 inch finish what will the measurement be? I want you to figure out the rest of the measurement?i dont want to make a big one keep teaching us
The 3" finished blocks should yield a quilt that will measure 21" x 27". The quilt sizes for all 4 block sizes are listed below and I've added them to the blog post so others can see it quickly: If you make 3” finished blocks, your quilt should measure 21” x 27” If you make 6” finished blocks, your quilt should measure 34” x 42” If you make 9” finished blocks, your quilt should measure 47” x 58 1/2” If you make 12” finished blocks, your quilt should measure 60” x 75”
That's correct - the PDF was corrected *after* I recorded this video. I tried to clarify with the blue pop-ups explaining that my cutting instructions in the video weren't right and to rely, instead, on the PDF. :)
Heavily spritz - I want the fabric to be evenly covered, not soaked...just enough there to add some body. And - here's the trick, iron a little more slowly than you may be used to to make sure you're really getting the fabric dry under the iron!
Thank you so much, Connie! 😊🧵❤️
Now you are teaching and that’s what I love to see. Thank you I’m going to sew this with you.
Let's do it! 😊🧵❤️
Churn Dash was the very first block I made, when I started quilting, & it’s always been my favorite!
Thank You for the Lesson!!

Thank you Becca. I am not a beginner but had my neighbor here who is and she agreed with me that you did a great job teaching beginners this block.
I love hearing that! I want everyone to be able to enjoy quilting!
Churn dash is my fave. I wasn’t planning to do this sew along, but I may have to now. 😊
You should! I'm doing the 12" (obviously) for the tutorial videos - but, I'm thinking about using some of my favorite scraps to do a mini version of the sampler with 3" blocks!
Love the Churn Dash block!!! Looking forward to sew together although I am getting a bit of a late start.

Hi Becca! This is one of my favorite blocks...dreaming of a quilted jacket made with three and six inch blocks on a dark background!
Ooooh, see - so many uses! The pattern PDF is great because it's just laying out the block in 4 sizes...for free! You can use that to make as many of these in any of those sizes you'd like. Or just do one and do the sew along! This is a 'make it your way' quilt along!

Love this! Will a layer cake either some background fabric work for most or all of these blocks?
I think so! I don't think any of our blocks will need cuts bigger than 10" - I'm just not sure how many layer cakes you may need. Make sure to have a good bit of background to help!
Let’s get started 🎉😊

I have a couple question.

I think that's up to you! You could even use a different Valentine print for each block! Have fun with it!
What kind of starch do you use? Thank you

Thanks for the pattern, would'nt this be so easy with a fat quarter bundle and background yardage?
Yes!!!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

I know you said you starch your fabric, but do you starch fat quarters, layer cakes and charms if you use them?
Only if I plan to cut them down to a smaller size. :)

Hi there! I know you from Tiffany's Quilting Life 😊
Hey there! Tiffany's a good friend, I can't wait to see her at Quiltcon in February.
Can you use the accuquilt cutter for these blocks?
If you have the dies, yes. I don't have an accuquilt, so I can't tell you which dies to use. 😊🧵❤️
Finished my. Lock, ut not sure wher to post. Don’t see any other posts with the blocks.
I think most people are posting the pictures in the Facebook group!

I’m not seeing the corrected pdf…you cut 5” squares and the pdf is saying to cut 5-1/4 squares
