I've got a Seal and live in Europe. We just recently had digital keys unlocked and I can now walk up to my car and use my phone/watch the same as my NFC card. No more lugging a key or card around is nice.
For lack of better comparison, this is like Tesla but also for (Apple) watch? I’m taking delivery of my EU Seal Excellence in Shadow Green in a few weeks and I’m looking forward to it.
Hello. Thank you for this video that highlights the new qualities of the SEAL. I 've owned the AWD model since March and have a 12,000-kilometer ride . It's an excellent EV. my range on road and highway courses with often mountain ranges from 530 to 570 km. The bad publicity that was made to him is really not justified.
Picked up my performance seal 2 weeks ago, did the update last week, fantastic updates to CarPlay and adjusting the aircon onscreen. Would like to see the cameras come on whenever you indicate instead of only when stationary and turn the indicator on. Getting an ocular iq charger installed later this week to help speed up the charging.
I was looking for a video like yours. I am an owner of a BYD Dolphin, and I would recommend the car without any issue. Which is far to be the case of all french youtubers who did the car review. I trust that we will continue having great OTAs in the future.
finally saw a seal on NZ streets the other day (teslas and atto 3's are most popular here), you can really see the design language of the ex-audi designer in it (on the exterior atleast). great looking car, and great hearing the updates they're getting OTA improving it.
Actually the fan speed, turn on or off and the temperature of AC and Heating was already possible to be adjusted via the steering wheel through the cluster screen... So this update of 3 finger gesture is just a fancy add on. In europe since the delivery in January 2024 and even October 2023 was already V3 and V4 compatible . Never had any issues except the limited charging speed due to the SuC being 400V limited
Since I've had the first service, the Eco mode is a lot more responsive and quicker. Hate, with passion, that I can't permanently switch off the lane keeping assist. I still find it too intrusive and scary. Apart from that, I love the car.
Good video, I like how you speak of some of the flaws and importantly the improvements. BTW I have an Audi S6 the fan, heater ac controls is on a separate dedicated screen, you can also control it with voice commands
Have a ‘23 Performance, couldn’t get the Shark Grey and black in April only could get a Shark Grey with the light blue interior in a ‘24 model. The most recent update has made things a lot better. The three finger gestures are great and the wireless CarPlay is helpful but I’ve noticed it drains the iPhones battery way more than when it was wired. So hope there’s an update for that. The ICC seems to be getting incrementally better with the last two updates. Not sure if it will ever be to the standard of our ‘21 BMW G20 340i auto driving. It was amazing, but it’s def not bad. Hoping the iPhone drain is sorted and the ICC gets better with each update as well. Hoping the updates continue on a regular basis with upgrades to the app as well which is pretty functional as is. Really enjoying the car so far. One oddity was we came out the other morning and noticed BOTH interior vanity mirrors were shattered. Bringing it to BYD to have it fixed, hopefully under warranty, but we shall see. A very odd occurrence that both shattered on the same night (very cold night). Hopefully they can upgrade the cable component to be compatible with the Telsa V3 and V4 chargers at the same time.
Congratulations! You want to get up to the v1.3 OTA version update. I believe BYD stopped doing the OTA update for older updates so you may need to see your BYD service centre to manually install the latest update.
The Atto3 is going through the 1.8 update now that introduces the 3 finger gesture. With a bit of luck the ADAS changes are updated in the same update.

I own a Tesla Model 3. I disable every ADAS system that I can control (the car will override and alert in some circumstances even though all ADAS has been disabled). I live in France and Autopilot is pretty useless unless active on very unchallenging roads, whcih is why I never use it. You end up monitoring it which requires more effort than just driving the car.
Hi I would like to see a review of the 2024 Atto 3. It's a vehicle i'm very much interested in and hope to take one for a test drive soon. What are your thoughts on the strengths and weaknesses of this latest model? Look forward to seeing more content.
Hoping to get my hands on one! I think the new colourways that have just been released are a step in the right direction. The original was a bit too 'out there' for my liking, but others love it. The new black interior will appeal to more buyers.

Quite tempted to wait for the Kia EV3 pricing also though as I love the EV9 but I want smaller and the EV3 seems to be just that. Hopefully this time next year we might see a little more price parity too.
Of the 3 I would say the MG4 is the most practical, but the BYD has the best battery tech. So what is better depends on what is higher up on your criteria.

@@davidolsson It's unlikely that this behaviour will trigger "lemon" laws, but you never know. Anyway, in the time it takes to take the case through courts, BYD would have updated the software and resolved it. Tesla are notorious for breaking operations, then fixing them again, via OTA updates. If people took Tesla to court everytime this happened, they just end up going in circles.

In the past, you could adjust the A/C setting from the driver's display.
Wireless charging making the phones super hot and can’t keep up with charging, especially if you run android auto or apple car play. AC settings defaults after turning the car off and can’t remember your settings. Fast charging throttles early (as low as 30%) because the battery gets to hot. Packing the car and kerping the frunk or boot open more than 10-15 min the car goes in to deep sleep and everything turns of..you can’t even close the boot. Turning of the auto dimming of the screens only affect the big screen. Repeaters suddenly stops sounding. This car feels abit rushed …
If you run android Auto/Carplay and use the phone for anything else, it gets hot. If you just normally wirelessly charge your phone on any wireless charger without doing anything, it gets hot. Combine these 2 together and it will get hot. This is not so much a negative of the car, but a negative of modern phone design. Everything else is software and can be addressed with OTA. With everything running through the software, saved settings for certain things will be missed. But would be perfectly normal to add over time as people request it.
@@BeYonD-EV If I wireless charge either phones on a fast wireless charger home it doesn’t get burning hot. Something is fishy with the seals charger. If the car supports wireless airplay the it should be able to have the phone on the charger. Otherwise we need to have the cable plugged in and that’s no win, back to square one as before ^^ If other brands can do this the BYD should be able too

Not sure what chargers you use at home, but when my phone was connected to the car with the wire, so it could charge and provide Apple CarPlay, my phone would become extremely hot. Actually, so hot that it would be insanely uncomfortable to touch.

Surely BYD with 20k+ ppl and testing during years of development should av caught these. I’m a design engineer myself and the importance of testing cars in all climates is a big deal.
@@davidolsson Is your phone connected to the car via bluetooth while charging? Or is AA conencted while charging even though you are not using AA? If so, that uses processing power and generates heat. Wireless charging at home will get it warm, but rarely hot because at home the phone generally sits on the charger not connected to anything or doing anything else. Heat is definately a phone issue, not a car issue. It is one of, if not the main reason why phone batteries degrade so much after 3-5 years and EV batteries don't. Phones don't have active cooling to regulate battery temperature, EV's do.
I don't know why any Aussie would buy a Chinese car. Perhaps they haven't seen the results of Chinese construction and cost-cutting in buildings, bridges, dams, highways... Nobody does tofu like the Chinese. I won't risk my life for a few dollars.

They imported and tore down a BYD Seagull, BYDs cheapest EV that sells for $11,000. They got it in to learn how it is made and to sell that data to US automakers. If you want a completely unbiased view of what's under the bonnet of BYD EVs and how they make quality cars at such a good price, that is a good starting point, as Caresofts entire business is tearing down and analysing how cars are manufactured. Keep in mind that Seagull is an $11,000 EV in China, and is what they are able to make at that price point and still make a profit.

Heres another report, on my car actually, the BYD Seal. Google *'UBS BYD Teardown Report'* . Swiss bank UBS tasked their research analysts to do the same thing carsoft did, but with my car, the BYD Seal, and tear it down to see how it was made...but UBS's aim was to report on it from a economic perspective to see how Chinese EVs would effect the European car manufacturing market. You have to pay for the report but the they say the same thing but it more detail, they are quality. Even without subsidies, just looking at how it was made they have accounted that BYD has a 25% cost advantage due to their vertical integration and manufacturing methods. They estimate that they make 16% gross margin and 5% after EBIT. BYD are the real deal, they are not an LDV or a Great Wall from 10 years ago. BYD has partnerships with Toyota, Mercedes Benz and Warren Buffet owns 5% of BYD...and he only backs winners!

Mercedes has reduced its JV stake in Denza from 50% to just 10%. We'll see how well Toyota's JV in the Toyota bZ3 travels. Generally, "Made in China" is not bad when actively managed by Japan, US, EU countries (etc).
@@maxhugen no WB bought in 2008, BYD bought Xian Tsinchuan Auto in 2003 after they went public. WB bought in 1 year before BYD released their first EV in the e6. He has since sold down under 5% because 1. Hes in it for the money, buy low, sell high. (He has 27x his original investment, hes not going to 27x it again from here) and 2. under Hong Kong Stock Exchange laws you don't have to publicly report your holdings if you hold less than 5%, and his last sell to bring it under 5% left him holding like 4.93% now.

The AC guesture control is novel and ingenious UI design. It particularly makes Android Auto and Apple Carplay much more useable.

3:18 mine changes the speed limit to 25 in my driveway (unknown road).
And i have two cheap periods to charge car so constantly editing charge times😮

The fact you can't simply close the air vents mechanically remains an issue to me...
it takes a bit of getting used to, and I think that feedback was taken on board as I believe the 2025 Seal will go back to mechanical vents again.

ADAS cross traffic braking is still super buggy. Thinking of returning mine.
Yep phantom braking still a thing. Hopefully addressed in an update soon.

Heat is definately a phone issue, not a car issue. It is one of, if not the main reason why phone batteries degrade so much after 3-5 years and EV batteries don't. Phones don't have active cooling to regulate battery temperature, EV's do.

@@maxhugen no WB bought in 2008, BYD bought Xian Tsinchuan Auto in 2003 after they went public. WB bought in 1 year before BYD released their first EV in the e6. He has since sold down under 5% because 1. Hes in it for the money, buy low, sell high. (He has 27x his original investment, hes not going to 27x it again from here) and 2. under Hong Kong Stock Exchange laws you don't have to publicly report your holdings if you hold less than 5%, and his last sell to bring it under 5% left him holding like 4.93% now.
