New 2024 BYD Seal Design Review | Best Value EV Saloon

- Today on Buckle Up, Jasper takes the BYD Seal out for a spin. We've had the AWD Seal model on the channel before (which does 0-62 mph in 3.8s) but this is the more affordable model that only has 313PS for you to play with. Offering heaps of tech and a luxurious cabin, does the car drive well enough and far enough to make it worth your time?
Additionally, how does it compare against its closest rivals: the Tesla Model 3, Hyundai Ioniq 6, BMW i4 and Polestar 2?

Buckle Up is a channel that is only interested in one thing - cars!
We upload a myriad of different content including car review videos, car challenge videos, car news videos and much, much more!
Our videos are made in a similar style to that of Top Gear, Fifth Gear, Car Throttle, Doug DeMuro, carwow, Carfection, The Grand Tour, MotorTrend and many more.
We would all thoroughly recommend their channels, so why not go and check them out.
Carplay is also wireless. You can also use three fingers to swipe to change temperature or fan speed (left/right or up/down), and this works with car play running. It's such a pleasure to drive. I'm getting about 300 miles right now driving with a heavy foot :)
This press car was pre these updates
The latest OTA update for BYD cars adds swipe gestures for the AC controls. It's an amazing feature which practically renders physical controls obsolete.
I will die on the hill that physical controls will always be better for climate control than any screen-based ones, whether they're swipe-based or not.
@@BuckleUpShow 😆 You should try it out. You put 3 or 4 fingers anywhere on the screen, move them up and down to change temp, left and right to change fan speed. It's an ingenious design.
I like how Jasper shaved for the driving portion. Proper dedication to weight reduction right there.
The driving portion was filmed in the order you see it in the video, so after the interior bits and before the conclusion. No shaving for this bit occurred!
@@BuckleUpShow figured as much, just messin with ya :)
Great review. Great car. What I love about most BYDs is that they used LFP batteries, even the performance variants, and they have great rears seat legroom as well as a really good ride.
Thanks for watching!
My favourite car. Jasper tested it alone this time 😢. Evdn still he did a lovely review.
Thanks for watching!
Apple car play is now wireless since software update
Unfortunately, that OTA software updates had not been released at time of filming. It's great to see BYD releasing new features though!
Love BYD 🎉
Thanks for watching!
In Australia AWD model is around £36k drive away
That's great! Really good value then!
Is this the performance version ? That interior is NA on performance models in Australia. Not an option to select.
No, this is the Design, RWD-only model. Different options may be available in different markets.
I hope more Chinese car brands will come to the Baltic states, eg BYD, MG and Chery’s Omoda and Jaecoo.
A lot of these brands have quite agressive expansions planned, so hopefully it won't be much longer!
I saw this in real life in green. Looks so much better than photos or vids. Germans are really good at car designs.
It’s certainly a looker
I really like this car but it's quite over priced in my country. And it doesn't help that my teenagers prefer Tesla Model 3 😅 both are great cars
Which country and how much is this in local currency
@@BuckleUpShow Singapore. Seal Dynamic is USD 150k and Performance is USD 190k only for 10 years
Navigating to Twatt in Scotland on the SatNav - we know your game here. . . .
It’s our favourite destination
😂
I want all that speed but in the size of a Mitsubishi outlander with a range of 1000km on a 15 minute charge
Do you regularly drive over 1000 km in a day?
The UK has gotten so bad! You can get a Seal Performance for £36k driveaway. And our taxes are bad as well, but seems Australia has priced them right,
That's what 14 years of Tory austerity will do baby
Looks great, shame about the boot and roof shade which are real dealbreakers 😢
The boot space is actually very useable. In an upcoming video you will be able to see how we got 3 bags of golf clubs in it with room to spare 😅. The roof shade is a bit of an odd one, but the glass is tinted so you don't have to use it. I wouldn't let it be a deal-breaker for you.
I've survived a hot Australian summer without any need for the roof shade at all. The heat rejection treatment in the Seal roof is superb, it's nothing like our Tesla roof, which turns the car into an oven.
The specified volume of the Model 3 boots by Tesla is also misleading. BYD quote a volume not including the underfloor space, but Tesla quote a boot volume including the underfloor capacity and side pockets (594L). The reviewers just seem to take these numbers at face value and don't question the obvious discrepancy. The real luggage capacity of the Model 3 boot is 425L, versus the 400L in the Seal. We have both cars and there is not much difference in boot capacity between them. Indeed, the Seal has more a bit more capacity with the seats down.
non issue, boot space is more than adequate and the roof keeps the cabin surprisingly cool with its silver coating
I love my Performance great car.
You don't need the roof shades. I was driving around in 40c in Melbourne last summer and hardly any heat came in thanks to the silver coated roof. Much better heat rejection than Tesla
The tinted glass in the panoramic roof of the Seal is really good 👍
Nice car, but most likely will never be available here in USA, too bad
Stop electing morons and they might allow fair competition in a free market
@@BuckleUpShow democratic Moran's elect themselves.
Lovely car. Just wish they’d have an ICE option.
An ICE option would kind of defeat the purpose of it being an EV though
Had it for just over 4 months and It's been at the workshop 3 times (a total of 7 weeks).
I experienced everything from bad paintjob to parts falling off. I've uploaded a few clips to youtube of some of it - BYD claims it is fake 😅🤦♂
I can't recommend buying this car!
Had mine since February and not had a single problem with it I think it’s a brilliant car especially after the software updates
Can you provide some keywords so we can search for your video?
Have you been engaging with your local dealer about these issues?
What do I need to search on UA-cam to find your video clips?
@@vasil7410he won't provide any keywords because he's lying. Probably one of those weird EV haters.
