    You have no idea how valuable this was. I have scoured videos for HOURS and for some reason, it hasn't occurred to ANYONE else how to create this basic aesthetic of tapering lines in Inkscape. Bravo to you!

    Thank yiu, this was helpful. I don't have illustrator anymore, I'm so sad, cuz I'm so used to that program. But I heard of this program and decided to see how it works and what not. i really love how you can easily manipulate the nodes, it's convenient, and makes work faster!

    I must have a different version of Inkscape, because I don't have any way to adjust the thickness of my tapered lines, which I have to say is really frustrating. Great video though. 😄👍

      this should help : go to Path-path effects-choose : pattern along path, then you should be able to adjust the width

      I think it might be that the author chose the Pencil tool and then set the "Shape" to "triangle in". That seems to give me the handle to grab and move around as in the video.

      If you Convert Stroke to Path, that essentially turns the lines into editable paths.
      EDIT: Just spotted what Scott did; in the Pencil and Bezier tools, you can choose the "shape" of the line, and Triangle In creates a line that tapers toward the endpoint, and when you go to Node Edit, there's a handle which allows you to alter the thickness.
      I never actually noticed that before; that's gonna come in _very_ handy... ;)

    Dear Jason, thanks for the tutorial. I have been using Inkscape 0.48.4 r9939, however, using pencil tool (F6), I can not see or get the handler to make the end thicker or bold as you show. Is this a new version ? or should I press an specific key or set any optin to get this cool behaivor of pencil tool ? ... Best Regards

    Hi, I'd like to know what did you do with the layers to make them look like onion skin.

    • @RailRide

      It's the "Opacity" slider below the Layers list. Select the layer, slide the opacity down. Instant 'onion-skin'.

    I'm unable to 'open' a line wider as per 1:40ish. I have 1 node only at the end of the line - I don't have the smaller corner nodes to thicken/thin out the line. Any advice? :)

    • @marccarson7620
      @marccarson7620 8 років тому

      +Nadine White use the F2 key to switch to the node editing tool--make sure you're not using the Pencil tool for this step.

    • @nadinewhite993
      @nadinewhite993 8 років тому

      +Marc Carson Thanks Marc. I think I must have a pretty old version of Inkscape and that could be the problem. f2 and f1 will switch from ‘edit path by nodes’ to ‘select and transform objects’, however I still only have one node at the end of a Bezier triangle in or triangle out line - no small corner nodes to drag the line thicker or thinner. I downloaded my version 17.11.2012 and I’ve never upgraded. Could that be the problem?
