My mother's birthday is also March 14th! She's been gone for 11yrs now, she died one month short of her 97th birthday! I'm 80yrs old and I still miss her! Going to have my daughter make this potato soup for me! I'm in a wheelchair so she cooks for me! I love your show! God bless you both!

I had to give an update. I made this with my 15 yr old daughter in literally 30mins. She loved how easy it was but when she tasted it her eyes got really big. She said your soup tastes better than the one at a well known restaurant where we live!! She ate (3) bowls!! Thank you so much! We love your videos, your attention to detail, how easy you make all recipes seem and your sweet wife behind the camera. I will admit, I am just like you always trying to scrape every bowl and can not to waste any food. We have tried 2 of your recipes so far and both have been DELICIOUS and becoming a family favorite!! Thx again!!

I made this soup last evening for dinner and it is delicious. It’s just my husband and me so we will get several meals from this. I love making a recipe that I can serve for dinner for a couple days and not have to think about what we are going to have for dinner. I’ve been watching your channel for a couple of weeks, but this is the first recipe I’ve tried, but it won’t be the last. My husband and I will celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary this year and I don’t mind cooking but I don’t enjoy it as much as I used to. You have inspired me to spend more time in the kitchen trying new recipes.

Found your channel a week ago. Good home cooking recipes. Saw a video that you were teachers, explains how well you explain things. I was a good cook, now 65… need easier things I can cut back to 1-2 servings. My great great Aunt taught me to cook, she was amazing. Celery soup and potatoes is so good. This recipe made me suggest something I learned from her that you could try. She used as main course. Scalloped potatoes… first mix a couple cans of celery soup with the milk as if for soup. Set aside. Then butter casserole, layer sliced potatoes, leftover ham, mild cheddar, pepper, a little butter cut into bits, then soup mix, repeat, ending with soup on top. Add enough milk at end so liquid/soup/milk comes at least 3/4 way to top. Halfway thru baking add cheese on top. Don’t over do cheese and butter or it gets greasy. Bake 350-375 until potatoes are done. 60-90 mins. Depends on your casserole and how thick potatoes are cut. I have taken this places for 40 years and always get compliments. Sometimes I put a loose piece of foil on top to keep it from getting to brown. Love the channel, good work. Watched pimento cheese, never would have thought of adding pickles, but it’s perfect addition.

I just Made potato soup! I use same except for canned soups.. I make the rue bc it’s easy. I cook diced potatoes on side separately an do them first so they’re ready to add to the soup.. in my bigger kettle I sauté my onions In a tsp of bacon grease, and add 1 chopped celery stalk. When it’s done an all sautéed I’ll add 3-4 TBS of flour an make a rue. I let potatoes boil on stove in the chicken broth. Let them get pretty soft almost soft enough for mash potatoes. I let potatoes cook about 10-15min before I start the onion celery rue. After adding flour to make the rue, I add a small half qt of heavy whipping cream to the rue.. stir well.. when potatoes are done I add the potatoes an chicken broth to the rue.. add more broth if needed.. add bacon bits, cheese…. I think it’s always better the next day.. if it gets thicker than you like, thin with broth or water.

This is delicious. I could not find the hash browns you suggested but the ones I purchased had onions and red and green peppers mixed in. I used these and the soup was great. Thank you for sharing.

You using cheddar cheese soup in this recipe reminds me of the cheesy potato casserole I make that was my MIL’s recipe. At Easter when I bake a ham, and I don’t make any gravy to go with it for mashed potatoes, for instance, I make these, and my family loves them! I’ll write out the recipe and mail it to you.
