- October 2024 saw the season finale for the CSCC (Classic Sports Car Club) race meetings, with the series culminating in an action packed day of historic racing at Oulton Park Circuit.
The day started with a look around the bustling paddock area, with the Swinging Sixties class of racing cars all preparing for their imminent qualifying session and revving their vintage engines up for the sound testing area. After filming the cars slipping and sliding around in the treachorous morning conditions I retreated back to the paddock to have a close look at the historic racing machines, and chat with a couple of drivers and mechanics.
After a couple more sessions we headed over to Turn 1, Old Hall corner at the Cheshire circuit where we captured a range of races featuring some amazing cars from an Aston Martin DB4GT to a Reliant Sabre Six! Turn 1 proved a fantastic vantage point with many great overtakes appearing in this video, along with a few code-brown moments and a huge Fiat 500 crash!

The light on the roof of the 'B' is a marker light for identification by a team during races where they run in the dark, (like say the Spa 6hrs), not a flashing indicator. Different teams run different versions.
Hi 👋 I have always liked the Austin A40s , they captured my eye when i saw them around on the roads back in the swinging 1960s. The Pininfarina design is sporty. The Aston Martin is fantastic. The red Ford Lotus Cortina is cool , I remember seeing them racing here in NZ in the 1960s. The green BMW 2002 was slow in racing i thought , kept getting overtaken. Wow , that Fiat did a roll. Doing the noise testing wrong the probe should be at an angle from the exhaust and the probe should not be in the pipe
Perhaps it's deliberate. 🤔 Maybe they've found that it's the best way to fudge results whilst getting enough hard figures down on paper (to satisfy the authorities) without eliminating too many tasty cars for breaching the regs. After all, even the grumpy guys with notepads don't want to see cars parked on trailers; they want to see them racing.

I wonder if there are many motorsport fans in the States watching this, shaking their heads and thinking, "Why are these Brits racing such tiny cars? 4-cylinder engines? Are you kidding? Dude, where's the muscle?"
I get the impression that a lot of US motor racing [and US culture in general] is all about absolutes and extremes. Look at INDYCAR and NASCAR. They race on ovals. Having the highest top speed MATTERS. Look at all the various flavours of drag-racing. Having the fastest quarter mile figure MATTERS.
They only want to see one winner, and that winner must be the biggest, best, fastest, most powerful, best-driven vehicle on the grid. Nothing else is worthy of their attention. Gotta be NUMBER ONE, and it has to be the utmost everything. Biggest engine, most horses...
That must be why they like drag racing: there's always a clear winner, and nobody can dispute that the top car/driver combination is the best. Is it a national pride/ego thing? If it is, it sounds a little insecure to me.
Being declared King of the Castle really matters because coming second is just another way of being declared 'the first loser'.
But most Brits don't care about absolutes. Here, we'll happily race Minis and Morgan 3-wheelers and dodgy old saloon cars with 45 horses under the bonnet because we're just as interested in seeing someone get the best out of an ordinary car as we are in seeing something overehelmingly dominant.
There's no shame in finishing 2 minutes behind the eventual winner as long as you've got the absolute maximum out of your crud-wagon.
Here, the guy who can get his untuned MG to the chequered flag intact is as much a winner as the pro driver with a 600 horsepower V-8 and no opposition.

Interesting, there are hundreds of racing classes and series in the UK so someone can race whatever car they would like
Someone needs to tell the Aston martin driver in the pits that you do not rev the engine and then turn it straight off, All that does is create cylinder bore wash!
