Life Sex and Death (or LSD, if you're late for a train) might just be the greatest forgotten rock and roll band of the 90s. No joke. Besides a few b-sides, this album was all they ever released before imploding from the career-wrecking hijinks of their singer, Stanley (just Stanley)

One of the best albums ever. Ironically you could almost pass for a current day Stanley look, at first glance.
DUDE - thank you for this! This band was an absolute blast to see live. I revisit this album and whatever live clips I can find on here with regularity. Chris (Stanley) had a great voice and the gimmick was effective / fun. But beyond the gimmick, that band was on f'n point. The Blue Velvet Moon intro was so perfect too. Alex, Billy and Brian played their asses off. Saw them opening for Lynch Mob and saw them headline a very small club in Knoxville TN. Just a hell of a band.

Hell ya LSD fan! Everyone that saw them live left the show with an unforgettable performance. The talent was out the roof.
I met an odd fellow named Stanley outside the Mad Monk. We spoke about life and shit then to my dismay he was the singer for the opening act. Pro-pain and Testament were the feature acts. He pulled me on stage to sing the chorus to Big black bush gave me a pick and the rest is history.
I had a few beers with Chris 'Stanley' a few months ago..he is doing great... Back in '89 I moved from Chicago to LA with their drummer, Brian.
From what I could gather, Chris Stann aka Stanley came from a rich family and the whole homeless thing was a gimmick but he never once broke character, even off stage with friends and going so far as to sleep in dumpsters and never bathing. I'm sure you've seen the American Noise video where he's not in character and all glammed out but still doing the same dance moves. Some people say that when his dad died, it made him go crazy for real and the gimmick kind became more of a reality. There's a video from 7 years ago where he's backstage at some rock festival and he's "normal". Apparently he took up the family business and his rich now. We didn’t know what to think about Stanley, if it was real or not. He was dedicated to the gimmick and it was before cellphones or the internet existed. Great album. Always takes me back to the glorious 90s.
I saw these guys live in 1992. Small club, my friends' band opened. Great band, great songs, cool guys. The homeless bit was a gimmick, but Stanley immersed himself in the role completely, and I can tell you first hand that he looked and smelled the part! Quite a character, and yes, a great voice! Love this album, and I wish they had done more.

I was lucky enough to be able to catch LSD back in '92 or '93 at Rocky's in Charlotte NC opening for Lynch Mob and it was really a fantastic show, very memorable! I'll share a bit about my experience that night. Before the show I knew nothing of the band whatsoever. So, I'm out in the parking lot with my friends getting some cheap drinks in at the car before going into the club when we notice this homeless looking guy way across the parking lot, and you could smell him from literally 50 maybe even 75 yards away in open air, yea this dude was that rank! It was then that we noticed that he'd go up to groups of people and they would hurriedly scurry away from him and we were keeping our heads down trying not to get his attention and have him come over to us. That was except for one guy that we seen the smelly dude talk to that seemed really psyched about it so when that guy walked by us we were compelled to ask what that was all about and he replied.... Oh man, that was Stanley from tonight's opening act Life Sex & Death! We didn't know what to think! Looking back now and I guess even then immediately after seeing the band kick ass we probably all wished we had taken the opportunity to speak to Stanley especially for me now having heard what a great guy he was and I've heard stories of him toking it up with fans before performing. After that show I did make point to pick up the cassette (yes, it was that long ago) Silent Majority and listened to it alot, still have the cassette and still love those songs in fact!
I guess it's true that much of it was a gimmick used to draw attention to the band but this dude Stanley AKA Chris Stan was so fuckin' dedicated to selling it and apparently didn't shower or change clothes from conception of the "homeless lead singer found on a street corner" right up until the band dismembered. They were a great band and all very solid musicians on an individual basis. So, anyway I just thought I'd share that for anyone that didn't get a chance to see this great band back in the early 90's. You really missed something!

I bought their album on record 23 years ago for 10p from a record shop that was closing.
I took stanley to the namm show the very next day after the coach house show. He spent the night at my house in anaheim and then in the morning we got up and went to the namm show. When we got to the anaheim convention center to they wouldnt let him in. Everybody in line outside was yelling at security saying hes in the fucking band. We ended up having to call warner bros a & r lenea nann and barry squire to get namm passes. Lol

I saw them live at the thirsty Whale outside of Chicago over 30 years ago, I still remember the show. Two questions, it seemed like they didn't fade away they just stopped, why did they never create a second album? Has there ever been a reunion tour discussed?

I worked as a bouncer and got to hang out with him for a day. He is a great guy. He really was a homeless guy. What I was told is the band was in the studio and the singer quite. And the band was fucked. They was walking down the street and heard someone singing in an alley. And it was Stanley. The rest is history. Stanley is one of the koolest persons I have the chance to meet.
I accidentally stumbled on to this and I know I’m late to the party but we went to see them live in Minneapolis and Stanley stunk so bad the chick next to us threw up from his stench! But I love this album!!! Still have the CD in my work truck.
Chris (Stanley) is doing very well today. Makes good money and has atleast 2 houses. He is very very nice person but also very very private.
I went to a couple live LSD shows in the 90's. Met the band including Stanley. Stanley (also my dads name) is an amazing performer. When I met Stanley he was mumbling to himself a lot. Not communicating directly with anyone. He smelled like rank BO, urine, and just funk. He jumps on stage dances flips mic and totally rocks it. Spoiler: It was all an act. He's an incredible actor and performer, singer, and songwriter. I still have their cassette tape lol!
I saw them open up for Lynch Mob in 1992 in Tampa, never heard of them before that night and they were actually really good. I ended up getting the LSD album and it was pretty good. Never heard much about them later but they did put on a good live show!
Saw them a lot in the clubs in Chicago where they are from. "Stanley" would literally stink up the place. Alex (guitarist) is a Chicago legend...dude is a bad ass player - he was also in Enuff Z Nuff before they got their deal.

Stanley was the hard rock equivalent of Andy Kaufman's Tony Clifton character. Brilliant! People are still wondering! Much like they are about Andy Kaufman.
Yeah, they are sick. Found them randomly watching old Beavis and Butthead videos, and "Schools for Fools" came on, and I've been a fan since. the 1994 demos that didn't get officially released are pretty badass as well. "Drywall" is one of my favorites for sure.
was Drywall on the demo they never released, I am looking for it, to do for you on the channel, but I cant see any reference to it at all.
@@ShaneDiablo Yeah, Drywall is only on their youtube. Never officially released. Searching Lsd drywall finds it pretty easy.
saw em 3x in 1994, long beach, the whiskey, and old Scream where cathouse used to be.. great shows. just not Stan's STENCH! .. LOL audience could literally smell him prior to hitting stage lol .. great of ya bringing attention to this under appreciated band. 👍🏻🤘🏻🖖🏻

LSD was one of those incredible bands that sadly just fell thru the cracks. What a shame.
FYI Stanley was a performance artist and he really took it to the next level. NEVER showed, would roll around in dumpsters behind the venue right before stage call.

Saw them open for Lynch Mob in Boston in 1992 and they were fantastic. I bought a few LSD shirts from Alex a few years ago, since my shirt from 30 years ago didn't fit anymore. ;-)
Shane Diablo! Stanley LSD! Both Rock Gods together on Stage at the Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood, California?! THAT WOULD BE FIRE!! Listen to some of the band demos after Silent Majority. “The Vault”, Human Bomb” and the video of “My name is Stanley” are all favorites that I wish had been released. Look at the dates, they were totally ahead of their time.

After Ziggy Stardust but before Marilyn Manson there was Stanley. He was so committed that he would get kicked off planes for his behavior and smell. At a concert, he would crowd surf, and you had literal, real stink on you. He seemed real but of course now, with the internet, we have found it was not all true, but for some reason they don't get a pass for this brilliant art piece and character the way Manson or Klaus Nomi. The bottom line for me always was that the songs are fuckin' great. When this was released, 80's metal had lost its edge, grunge and edgier rock music was changing the landscape. There's video of Corey Taylor from Slipknot covering "the Farm Song" in concert. Very underground sort of band these days, and they always were for a certain taste, but those songs are so powerful and catchy. I think they may have even influenced Marilyn Manson because their Anti-Christ Superstar record has live concert elements as "the Silent Majority" does, you've got the conviction to go through with being a full-fledged character with Stanley's influence, but also I remember that when Zim Zum joined the Manson band, the backstory was that he was the original guitarist for a band called LSD, which isn't true because Alex Kane has always been their guitarist, so that felt like one of those little nuggets of info Manson would play with in interviews. LSD; one of my favorite bands and their self titled is one of the best albums ever. "See you at Scarlet's after the show."

Stan (real name Chris Stann) started off in the band as a gimmick but started to actually live the homeless life when the band moved to LA. It was Stan that imploded the band. One record and done unfortunately. As for Stan today, your guess is as good as mine. Check the dumpster behind your local rock club.
That's not exactly true...Warner Brothers dumped them and they had demos for a 2nd album ready to go already, you can even find them on here.
Look up "Stanley rock fest 2014" it shows what Chris stann "Stanley" looked like then.

@@ShaneDiablo he is! They played Hammerjacks way back then and my friends went and met Stan out back in the alley under the huge highway overpass that covered the entire huge parking lot. Yup, the dumpsters were all out there too. Sadly, I didn’t know about LSD until a little later and missed that show.
