  • Life, Sex & Death (LSD) were a band that came and went in the 90's but the story of the band, and the sing "Stanley" has just fascinated me, so I wanted to checkout a live clip from Life Sex & Death called Schools for Fools, you're gonna love it.

Hey. Im Alex Kane. The guitar player. Thank you for the kind words. Its strange that the band seem to have a larger following now than we did at the time. For real. Good times.

I remember yeeaars ago someone posted a video of fuckin shit ass live, and at first i couldn't take my eyes off the weird looking, dancing singer, but i also noticed how talented and tight the musicians were. you guys were awesome!

Probably because Stanley was Pro-Trump and predicted his Presidency in 1993. How's Biden working out or you, Little Alex?

I saw them ad an opening act in the 90s and honestly thought a homeless guy came in the back door and got on stage and started playing the mandolin. Was hooked instantly. Saw them 3 times after that at shows they headlined. Met the band and still have my a signed CD. Stanley never broke character. Got onto the tour bus into the luggage compartment memories and good times and tunes.

They started out as they glam band Bottoms Up here in Chicago. They evolved over time to become the LSD band that we all love. Guitarist Alex Kane was previously in the band Enuff Z'Nuff.

This band was phenomenal to see live. World class musicians and Stanley was a maniac on stage. Saw them live at L'AMour in Brooklyn back in '92, bought their CD and wore it out over the next year. Some greats songs on it - Tank, Fuckin' Shit Ass, Train, Hey Buddy, JaWohol Asshole - this band really should have stayed together and put out a 2nd album. Crazy that they were 1 and done.

I met them at a Meet and Greet in Kenmore Square in Boston when their album come out. Stanley was full on method down to the smell. All the members couldn’t have been nicer though. But the music? BEST ALBUM OF THE 90’S. Catchy, fun and introspective lyrics that are driven by some amazing playing. A true legacy. @cynicalidealist2301 you should know that this album reaches much farther and influences generations more than you’d ever realize and it’s not just Stanley’s antics. 🤘🏻

They recorded that album in my hometown at Cain’s Ballroom Tulsa, Ok. And played a free show that I attended. Their hype was incredible. Stanley would go missing because he would wander downtown to score drugs & prostitutes. Great 90s memories.

Saw them in D.C in the early 90s. Saw Chris Stan outside the venue...(Blue Bayou I think). Me and my sister truly thought he was homeless and brushed him aside. It was a small show because me and my sister SAT at a table 15,20yrds from the stage. When LSD performed we were in awe the whole time. He climbed our table and sang to us. The vocal performace was on par with david Lee Roth...and he stood above me on a tiny coctail table. The word "sublime" suddenly had meaning. And then they vanished. It's always been a mystery how they never got big...But Its a story best left alone....Its a performance I can judge all others by, and say...."not quite, but good effort".

1992 Mad Monk in Wilmington NC. We went to go see Lynch Mob. While we were waiting for the concert to start, we went to the bathroom and there was some stinky homeless guy talking to himself in the bathroom. He smelled disgusting and we felt like a mental patient snuck into the club. About 10 minutes later, we saw that same homeless guy on stage singing alone with a mandolin. We were waiting for security to throw him off stage, but then all of a sudden, the rest of the band broke in and we were mesmerized by Stanley and Live, Sex and Death. From the great songs to the crazy dancing, we were laughing, rocking and blown away. No other opening band has made such an impression. Bought the CD the next day. That's why you always see the opening bands. You never know what you are going to get.

My ex brother in law saw them live at the Roxy in Atlanta and turned me on to them after. Stanley opened the show with were here now and Javole asshole. Told me he came out with a ukulele. I fell in love immediately! I bought the Vinyl and have always wished I could have seen them live. They broke up soon after this. Stanley was a genius front man. As far as I know he’s never done anything since then as far as being a lead singer. If you know of anything he’s done after LSD I’d love to know!

I saw them at Livestock, hadn't heard of them before they walked out on stage. I thought a homeless guy had walked out on stage. I was right at the stage. I remember being completely blown away by their performance. This was in 92 and I didn't realize what I had witnessed until many years later. LSD has consumed a part of my soul since that day.

Saw them in Atlanta. Great show/. Like were a lot like the Galactic Cowboys (also in the KIngs X vein of songs, harmonies and 12 string basses). Signed as grunge was coming in and the labels didn't know what to do but let them die.

  • @andycobourn

Saw them on Thanksgiving night 92 (?) at the Cotton Club in Atlanta. Went with a group of friends knowing nothing about the band. Walking up to the door of the club, a homeless guy was sitting there asking for change. One of us gave him some money and then we payed the cover and went inside. We were early and there was no opening band, so we grabbed drinks and decided to play some pinball while we waited for the show to start.
About 20 minutes later, the homeless guy from out front appeared behind us talking in amazed tones about how many people were there. We were all like, um…ok (the club was still pretty empty at the time). He walked away and we were all like wtf??? How did he get in?
Eventually, we migrated to the stage. The lights went out and the homeless guy shuffles out with a guitar and starts in on what sounds like a pretty bad song. Again, we were just kind of looking around thinking security would appear shortly and remove him.
Then, what appeared to be an LA metal band ran on to the stage and they quickly launched into School is for Fools. In a split second the “homeless” guy transformed into this dynamic, dancing frontman that just owned the stage. We just stood there with our jaws on the floor.
Super tight rock band and one of the greatest surprise musical experiences of my life.

I got the LSD album thru Columbia House, unbelievably. Listened to it & was not in the right headspace, and hated it. Listened to it again a little while later & fell in love. It wasn't the Seattle sound, it wasn't hair metal, but it rocked. It was only years later that I found out about Stanley & the whole performance art part of it. I just loved the tunes. Great band that was too ahead of their time.

I first learned of these guys way back in the early 90's when they were on a Chicago show called JBTV. Jerry Bryant interviewed Stanley out on the street, and Stanley never broke character. People called it tasteless, but I think it was performance art. Image waiting in line for a show and a homeless schizophrenic wanders up. Would you help him, or would you ignore him, or worse? Then, when the show starts, all of a sudden the homeless man is on stage. It probably would mess with your head and make you rethink how you relate to homeless/schizophrenics. Or you would call it tasteless. I thought it was fascinating. If anybody has that episode of Jbtv you ought to post it.

I saw them open up for KIX at the old Hammerjack's in Baltimore. This would have been before their album came out but they did many of the songs on their album. Saw the singer outside Hammerjack's before the crowd was let in. He did play the part well. He did smell and if I remember correctly when the crowd was let in he stumbled and staggered into several girls knocking one over, Sure that was not intentional, and almost getting punched by the guy she was with. At one point in their set he was hanging on the outside of the upper balcony. I was pretty sure he was gonna fall off but, he did not. Fuckin' Shit Ass was the highlight of their set. I still remember the intro vocals before the band kicked in Some Fuckin' Shit Ass, Some Fuckin' Shit Ass done stole my money.

I went to see them in Richmond, Virginia right when the CD came out at a place about as big as my bedroom ! I'd never heard of 'em but if I remember correctly, it was a super cheap like five bucks at the door. Before the show, we were doing what we did best back then - looking good and definitely gonna pick up some chicks. So basically we were standing in the place just drankin' and trying to look cool when the front doors of the place burst open and in runs this sweaty dude with coke bottle glasses and looking "challenged" if you know what I mean (no offense to any challenged out there) When he passed by us he was maybe 3 feet away headed to the stage and I could literally smell the funky body odor rolling off him !! But they fucking ROCKED !! They jammed so good I made a bee line for the merch table and immediately bought the CD (or maybe I got this chick to buy it for me - I can't remember I was definitely drunk by this point) which I still listen to ! With a song called "Some Fucking Shit Ass" they gotta be good ! I still tell this story at parties ! Keep it up ! Tommy in Virginia
