Thanks for demonstrating the extreme. I at times lose track of how to eat, try to incorporate my homemade keto bread or snacks. I lost.
Then I go back to basics with eggs, bacon, meat, and my healthy fats. Glad you brought subject up.

This really hit home for me - I've been on keto (again) since the beginning of January, but I have a "keto" wrap every day for lunch (with cold cuts and cheese), plus whatever other carbs I eat during the day (veggies, eggs, heavy cream, cheese, coffee, etc.) I'm sure that I'm eating well over 20 total carbs a day, which explains my glacial weight loss. My sugars are SO much better, though (from over 200 to high normal), which tells me that I'm not totally blowing it, but I need to really tighten up on the packaged stuff and just stick to meat and some veggies. Period. Thanks for this!

thank you for being there for us much appreciated. New to Keto and lost some weight but this net carb - carb thing was driving me nuts - I am 73 and already losing it mentally without this carb game. I love meat but don't eat so much of it any more but do dairy butter cheese, cream, and oils. I just started making my own keto bread and the rye is out of this world but only have 1 piece per day or not. I also fast from around 7 PM till 1 PM the next day everyday. My blood sugars A1C for the last 3 years have been 6.9 no meds. and now they are 6.4 and hoping in 3 months 6.0 or less. Love this program and thanks to you and others life is good. Now if I can only get my blood pressure down by diet no meds. God Bless you all!!!

This is one reason why it's important to do keto blood tests once in a while as well. It's definitely good to not play the net carb game on processed packaged food.

I always pay attention to total carbs, but it did open my eyes to the fact I may be eating too much fat! I can't seem to commit myself to keto or carnivore. I go back and forth, not really sticking to either. I want to be mostly carnivore and just have a couple days a week where I can have some veggies. I'm a hot mess! Thank you for telling it like it is. We WISH net carbs were the proper measurement, but reality tells us it is not. I don't eat very many things that come in a container or wrapper anyway because I don't trust the ingredient list. I so enjoy your channel and appreciate how honest you are and how much you want to help all of us. God bless you both!

Going back and forth is still under the "PHD - Proper Human Diet" umbrella per Dr Berry. But I do think some of us need to alternate lower fat once in awhile too. I'm going to try adding 2-3 days a week of PSMF (Protein Sparing Modified Fast) as promoted by Maria Emmerich and The Keto Naturopath and others. But you need to mix in higher fat days too or you can wreck your metabolism.

I started getting into all those keto cheat snacks and counting net carbs and it ruined my weight loss for a while. It caused me to start binge eating again and then I realized I needed to count total carbs instead of net because my weight lost cut in half after eating all the “cheats” and counting net.
After that realization I went strict carnivore and I felt like I took my diet and weight loss to a whole new level. I know not everyone needs to go carnivore but it was the best choice for me… which is ironic since I use to be a raw vegan!

Great!! Just found your channel thanks to Steve@seriousketo and Keto Chow. This subject of Net Carbs vs total carbs has been giving me headaches for weeks. I use carb manager to log my food and is synchs with my fit bit which subtracts carbs from my total and carb manager then subtracts fiber etc and gives me net carbs. Problem is I was gaining weight. Now I know I was right thanks to you guys I will only use total carbs. Thank you soooooo much.

The problem is FDA labeling rules. Some ingredients are allowed to be labeled as "fiber" but actually spike many people's blood glucose. Insoluble fiber is fine for me, has no impact on blood glucose and no impact on ketones.

I’ve managed through diet change to significantly lower my blood sugar the last 2 months. But and it’s a big but, I got sucked into the low carb packaged food thinking it would help me stick to the new way of eating better. Now I realize I’ve been sabotaging myself big time. I’ve been wanting to try carnivore bars and the keto bricks. Haven’t because of cost. But maybe I can if I stop spending my money on the “keto” packed food lies.

I went from 243 to 160 doing the total carbs- fiber version of net carbs. When I heard to subtract sugar alcohols, I said uh-oh this is sounding suspicious, so I ignored that. And also tried to look at ingredients instead of the “keto-friendly” plastered on the front of the packaging. I just went straight to the ingredient list after looking at the total carbs.

I subtract fiber and sugar alcohols and it still has 30 something carbs per serving. I don't trust that allulose is so miraculous it cancels out that many carbs. Weight loss will NOT happen if you are counting net carbs. It may happen at first just because you are consuming fewer carbs than you are consuming on the SAD, but over time, it will stop. TOTAL carbs is the way to go. And if you are a sugar addict like myself, these types of 'treats' can NOT be a part of my diet because they ultimately lead me to go off the rails.
