    Welcome to another Amazon FBA update! This was a very highly requested video - I've sat down and listed out every single penny we've spent so far on Amazon! Of course we've also had some income but this is all the costs. You'll be amazed how much they vary between different products, and I hope it encourages you to get started with FBA. I always want to be totally transparent with you and I think this will be very helpful! Thank you so much for watching, and of course don't forget to subscribe.

    ↣ Are you a full time UA-camr?
    I work full time online as a 'Digital Nomad' which means I get to travel the world with my fiance (Ed) and not be tied to living in any specific country. I teach courses on Udemy (check out my profile here - www.udemy.com/u/louisecroft/), and run several companies, plus of course blogging and UA-cam.
    ↣ When did you start blogging?
    I created my blog in 2012 when I was living in America. I was thrifting so much that I wanted to start sharing my outfits online and inspiring other people to look in charity shops. Now it's become all about my Digital Nomad journey and what it's like to be a female nomad.

    ↣ Where's your accent from?
    I'm from the South of England but I currently live out of a suitcase travelling all over the world.
    ↣ Where is your favourite place in the world?
    I fell deeply in love with Gili Air when we visited as a paradise getaway, but Chiang Mai is my favourite place to live. Plus of course, there's no place like home (Dorset in England).

    Thanks so much for making this video, I found it incredibly insightful.
    So you would recommend lots of test products, 50 units each, over fewer products that you invest more in (samples, photography, etc)?
    Would love to hear more about your sales if you're happy to share, e.g. how long it takes to sell 50 units on average and the profit % one can expect, on average
    Thanks for taking all of us along with you on this journey, it's so interesting

      Thanks!! Yeah I'll share sales in future when we have some 😂 right now it's very early days and most products have only just arrived in the warehouse.
      I'd recommend the smaller quantities only for Australia. If you did it in America you'd sell out and be screwed for ever in the search ranking. You need 1000 for America probably. But I do also think photography is worth investing in! And doesn't have to be super expensive.

    Great video as always, thanks, Louise! :)
    You have really inspired me to start thinking about FBA - I was wondering if you decided to create that Facebook group you mentioned in another video, for people getting started to kind of encourage each other's progress, etc? Also, for somebody with less to invest up front, would you recommend starting with a product that sells for around £20? Thank you in advance!

    I'm guessing a lot of U.S. based FBA companies are getting their butts handed to them with the trade war between the U.S. and China. Margins can't be that great on many products to begin with, and then add a 20-25% tariff on top of cost of goods? I don't like dealing with inventory anymore, and haven't in many years. I mean from a logistical standpoint it can be a lot of fun. But projecting and balancing supply and demand, dealing in anything with a shelf life, regulated products, trendy or fad products, or technology that becomes obsolete, plus products which tend to see random influx into markets, can be such a nightmare. 20 lines of products can be wiped out by one bad line. Been there, done it, lol. The reason Amazon is so successful isn't because of their web site, or Prime, or distribution centers all over the place. It's because they outsource their inventory liability to FBA'ers. The brick and mortar places used to have the edge by buying in bulk, hoarding and controlling the markets and prices, creating the buzz and trends to move product. But, much like what ride-sharing has done to the taxi industry around the world, inventory-sharing has done to the retail space. You cannot compete with a retail sales company which doesn't have to worry about inventory, haha! Your costs of sourcing product, buying samples, shipping, packaging, labeling, photography, are all expenses Amazon never sees, and then they charge you to sell it too! On top of that, FBA'ers compete with one another, naturally driving down prices, a huge benefit to Amazon's customers. Amazon has removed all of their risks associated with being a global retailer. Pretty sweet business model! Information sales/services, money for money investing, brokering larger items for others; those are more my speed where everything moves fast, people are willing to spend for convenience, and where I don't end up holding the bag with a closet or warehouse filled with product that I can't even pay someone to take away! FBA does look like fun though, and who knows, I may dabble in it at some point. I love logistics, packaging, bar codes, bubble wrap, tangible products. But I just have too many bad past experiences to overcome before that happens. There are STILL boxes of un-sold inventory in my sister's basement from years ago, lmao! Cheers!

    • @digitalnomadgirl
      @digitalnomadgirl  5 років тому

      Hehe - yeah I bet that is a common story of being stuck with inventory! Hopefully it won't be us but we are being very realistic about how much we can afford to lose and managing the risk 🙈 I'm not sure about how China is affecting it - would be interesting to hear from some American sellers!

    Why is your last shipping cost so expensive, it’s like twice as much as the products you buy?

    • @digitalnomadgirl
      @digitalnomadgirl  5 років тому

      I think it's actually quite typical! The expensive product we bought it actually pretty heavy so that made a difference - but generally the shipping from China to Australia is pretty pricey (there are customs etc included too) so it's something to consider in your profit margins!

    Totally lost on this video. 🤔I’m a reseller. Haven’t braved FBA... this looks confusing, and expensive to get started. It would help to see gross and net profit after all these expenses. Have you done dropshipping? This is something I recently set up, need more info on how to set up a fully automated business. Have you done regular FBA? I’m guessing this is all private label stuff you’re getting into.

    • @digitalnomadgirl
      @digitalnomadgirl  5 років тому +1

      Hey! Could you explain what you mean by Regular FBA? Have never tried dropshipping no - but I know lots of people doing it :) I like that amazon handle all the traffic for you though rather than having to do Google ads and SEO etc

      this video is a goldmine of information that most people would never share. Seems pretty clear to me. Amazed that someone game it a thumbs down. If it's too complicated then I guess there are more basic videos out there, but this one really gets down to the detail and the acts - I think it's great. yes it's complicated and expensive, I think that's the point that Louise is making.

      Chris Croft I wanted you to know, I wasn’t the one who gave it a thumbs down. I watch her videos a lot and agree she does offer some very good, very useful info. I just think this would be for more advanced FBA users. I’m a newbie to Amazon FBA. I’m sorry if you were offended. I really didn’t mean for it come come across like that or offend anyone, that was never my intention. The curse and the beauty of the internet is misunderstanding. I just think a follow up video more for FBA newbies would be amazing!

    • @theChrisCroft
      @theChrisCroft 5 років тому

      Thanks for the reply, yes I agree communication is difficult in a few short sentences. Don’t worry, I’m not offended, nothing offends me! Just defending what I think is a really good video. Good to hear you weren’t the thumbs down person. I agree Louise probably could do a more basic one as well, although maybe she has already done one I’m not sure? Good luck with your drop shipping and other plans, I’m sure you will succeed.

    • @digitalnomadgirl
      @digitalnomadgirl  5 років тому

      Hey! Not yet no - we will be reinvesting all the profits we make into new stock so we don't intend to draw money out for a while anyway. The products are selling at a profit but we haven't sold them all yet so we have money tied up in stock! Hope that makes sense 🥰

      Yeah I think America is super tough. Probably still a lot of money to be made but that is why we didn't do it. When we heard about Australia we couldn't resist though! And apparently Japan is really good, plus some counties in Europe. Good luck!
