This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my UA-cam channel 8 months ago about self development. Now I have 871 subs and > 500 hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I could haven’t learned without getting started in the 1st place.
@AhrefsCom Whoever you are, I don't know you personally but I can say that you're one of the non-judgmental and open-minded people who is not fixated on tangible or external factors in order to learn from someone like me. Just because someone doesn't have a piece of paper as a credential, doesn't mean that person is not entitled to share personal experiences with the hope & intention to inspire others. Keep up with whatever it is that you're doing to improve mankind or improving your life even to a slight degree each day. This is just one part of a bigger puzzle for creating my UA-cam channel about holistic health. I literally could have died back when I was 14 years old due to major depression but here I am right now replying to you, a UA-camr, who's full of fulfillment and dedication to help others to be a better version of themselves. I ain't better than anyone else but my old self. That's all that really makes this UA-cam thing more meaningful and enjoyable. Thanks so much for your support! I am hoping that you can join me with this endless personal development journey! :)

Choosing a single are of digital marketing is a good idea when starting out but at some point I think it's important to expand your area of knowledge and expertise. Marketing isn't done in a void and having an understanding of the big picture and how things work together will make you a better marketer...in my opinion.
This is what distinguishes professional digital marketers. For better or worse, the barrier to entry is low. I’ve seen a lot of agency marketers with a couple years experience talk like they have deep knowledge…but it’s only for one channel. And when I hear them talk about leveling up, I still see them limited because they’ve never had to conceptualize, launch, measure, and adjust a full campaign…where the only metric that matters is conversions attached to revenue. Strategy requires a lot more digital skills than just SEO or one platform for paid media.
Along the lines of your vid, appreciate all the effort you put out in sharing your experience and teaching fundamentals. Some vids actually run along so fast, esp. since I'm unfamiliar with the AHREFs UI and taking in new concepts that they can be frustrating to follow. You're familiar with a decade of repetition, I'm not … still, after multple rewinds, learned a bunch about the approach and the main key of what SEO is today. And you're so right: learning vs doing is an eye-opening experience. I worked for an agency around 2005, but much has changed!

This was tremendously helpful, thank you! I have an education in retail which is, due to the decline of brick and mortar stores, problematic. I plan on branching out into Digital Marketing, getting a certification from an accredited Institute and then focus on SEO.
Wow, your journey in digital marketing is truly inspiring! It's impressive how you've gone from spamming forums to becoming a recognized SEO expert, and your commitment to learning from your mistakes is commendable. One key takeaway I got from your video is the importance of choosing a specific area of digital marketing to focus on. It's clear that specialization is crucial in this vast field. After all your experiences, I'm curious, what advice do you have for someone who's just starting out in digital marketing and is trying to choose their focus area? What factors should they consider when making that decision?
Great question. In my opinion, it should come down to a balance between personal interest, future outlook, and resource availability. I wouldn't stress about it though. You can laser focus on [area 1] for 6 months and if you realize you don't like it, you can always try [area 2] etc. -Sam

@penelopebranson3621 It's not a bad idea to be asking artists about this. Now from a marketer's perspective... many methods work. It's down to your target market. If your target market are old folks, you won't be able to reach them easily on Twitch or Tiktok. Likewise, if they're young people, newspaper ads won't do much in reaching them. I'd probably fight tooth, claw, and nail to get say 5 or 10 customers who pay you $500 or $1000 worth of art (ie. higher ticket customers), and then I'd bend over backwards to get them to fill out surveys and do qualitative interviews with them so you can understand more about them and which aspects they like about your art. For instance, you may find a strange commonality that they all like cycling and they're over 40, so you may place ads for your art in a cycling magazine, create more art based on the styles that sell, and have upsells for bigger ticket clients with deep pockets (eg. 1 of 1's @ $10k a piece) That's one idea but it may not work for your target market or type of art. The principle rings true though: you MUST understand the sort of person who buys, and you must understand WHERE they can easily be reached, how to structure offers, how to create more products/services in alignment to their needs etc. Not enough info right now to properly prescribe potential solutions or how to find what your next steps might be

I would like to specialize in marketing automation. But the problem is you need to know at least the fundamentals of every digital marketing area before doing it.
Great video! I'm from Delhi, India. I'm also very passionate about Digital Marketing but I'm no expert into it. The more I learn, the more i go inside that black hole. I was learning all. I agree that only one area needs to select. But, its impossible because when you're all alone then you need to do it all by yourself. In Digital Marketing everything is interconnected. So, it's impossible to master at one area. You have to learn other areas. Now, I too want to start. But, no idea where to begin. Could, you please suggest what-what i I need and should learn?
This is my exact question too. I wanted to learn email marketing, but I realized I had to learn copywriting, analytics and SEO. How can I learn digital marketing without feeling overwhelmed by its many branches, which often require knowledge from other areas? It's so hard to pick one area to specialize in as a beginner when you will always need the others as a foundation.....

You seem to be a smart, humble and nice person. And Ahrefs design is beatiful. Really. I downloaded actually your font and using it on windows and in my obsidian, because I love it so much. Its the perfect font in the world.

Many people say that this will not be a good career now. Because there has been a lot of competition in this sector. What do you think? A It has many competitors in various freelancing marketplaces. Please tell me what things I should look at now? Which job in this sector is good to learn? Which will keep me ahead of others ? Also, how will I survive this competition? Which skills learning to better now. Thank you
The future of this space is PEOPLE. So get yourself into a position where you are valued as a person, not something which is discarded once your expertise has been extracted. I'm being purposely vague here, because I don't want to be seen as spamming an offer on this video's page.
Great Information! Thank you! The advice is very useful

I would consume a video on the future of SEO professionals, considering the raise of AI and the oversaturated market with synthetic content.
We already made a video on a similar topic: ua-cam.com/video/zojOvpZ83gE/v-deo.html 😀

@@AhrefsCom 😯cool!
Three areas in digital marketing I want to master. SEO. PPC. Email Marketing.
Go for it :)
-Helen
@@AhrefsCom I will.
I would like to specialize in marketing automation. But the problem is you need to know at least the fundamentals of every digital marketing area before doing it.
Still worth trying I believe :)

Stunner. keep up your good work

Which courses are you both doing?
@@rajaryansingh7433 I started with the Google Digital Marketing and E-commerce Professional course, and I just finished the Meta Social Media Marketing Professional course. I learnt both of them on Coursera.
Start with web development then move to other areas like ......Fb ads, Google ads....
I had just taken a digital marketing course but was unable to make a decision where to go.
Great video mate ❤
Glad you enjoyed it :)

Thank you!
This video has really helped...Quick question though could you make a video talking about social media marketing? Specifically Instagram. 🙏
Thanks for the suggestion! But social media is not really our focus area, We'll see what we can do here.

Hey, Appreciate you efforts in making those vid and passing on your experience. I had my own website for few years and I handle my own SEO and digital marketing. I can't say I am 100% satisfied with it as I have to focus on so many things to make this work. I learned alot over the past years and I am thinking, why not use this experience and get more income than what I currently have. What is the best advice you can pass on to me?? maybe something to help me get the right path. Thank you bro.
Loved this !
Thanks! :)

What tools you were using before you created ahrefs?!
