I've watched a few videos on how to do live-streaming, and, by far, this is the best I've seen. You made it simple to understand, and the video capture of what your screen looked like through every step was immensely helpful. Thank you very much. You've earned yourself a subscriber.

A minute of viewing this high quality production, compared to the average UA-cam how to video, convinced me she knows what she's talking about. No iris bounce, no fish eye, no blue face, no wild hand held camera moves. It's informative too.

Definitely subscribing, my church is looking to livestream our services and I must have watched dozens of videos to learn how to do it on my DSLR for better quality. You made it super easy and informative, I thought we were gonna go bankrupt since all of the other videos I saw before yours were talking about thousands of dollars of equipment! I was getting frustrated and sad tbh. Now, thanks to you we know to just invest in the Camlink and OBS and we're set! We have people all the way from Argentina that have wanted us to go live for years now. So thank you!

You are the best. I swear I have filtered through like 10 videos with no luck. You were direct to the point and not only did I learn how to set up an inexpensive live broadcast set up. I learned how to use my canon a little better. I am a life time fan thank you!

Thank God, at last someone that understands what they are talking about. I have sat through a dozen clowns trying to set this up with a DSLR and they were totally useless, they did not understand what they were trying to do, some were using the camera via some proprietary stream then simply laid on the desktop. Let's just say the lag and framerates made this look like an animation from 80 years ago.
Thank you for a very informative, interesting and well explained video, it makes such a pleasant change from some of these so called experts.

You are a freaking genius! I’ve been trying to hook my M3 up for 3 days using the Canon Utility. I finally broke down and called Canon and they said my camera was not built for live streaming. Low and behold I found your video and the missing piece to the puzzle is this Cam Link device! I could totally hug you right now! Thank you!!

This is complete package for demonstrating how to do live stream using external camera. I have been watching videos with different others but not of those satisfy what I'm looking for. Thanks to you! I am supposed to be using g7x mark 2 as a webcam for doing live stream but I kinda lost my way in watching mixed up videos with others. Thank you once again. It is good to know that we can't jump in using camera with hdmi cable right away! Perfect explanation and demonstration. God bless you more!

This video from Premiere Gal was a great help! Because the Camlink is sold out or people are selling it for 2 or 3 times the value (high demand now due to Coronavirus), I bought the "Elgato - Game Capture HD60 S" from Best Buy for $179 and it worked perfectly. I picked it up Curbside the same day. I tested last night with Zoom and connected with 9 of my students and and it worked great. From my research the S+ does not work with camera live stream. Looking forward to learning more from you. Thanks again!

Apologies for posting this a bit late and for nitpicking, but you seem to be using the term HD to mean 1080p, but it's not the same.
In general HD is not even a standardized definition but it generally means anything that is a step up from 576x480 scan lines, be it progressive or interalaced.
    Technically 720i is HD.
We have come to usually refer to 720p as "HD" and 1080p as FullHD, but again this is just a marketing term.
I would use the term 1080p (or i if interlaced) which is more accurate and professional, or FullHD in a pinch if referring to 1920x1080.
I hope this is helpful :)
    Cheers!

My setup: Sony PMW-EX1R (which I consider one of the best camcorders ever made, and probably the best one for streaming - together with other Sony PMW- and PXW-series camcorders), URay USE265-1WB-4G Chinese streaming box over SDI output. Can stream two FullHD or lower resolution streams to different servers using different protocols, or four SD streams (in theory all four should be FullHD but the box's CPU is too weak for that). For example, you can send an RTSP stream over your LAN to a big TV and at the same time at UA-cam or any other RTMP server. Or to two social media platforms. Other protocols are available as well.
The thing has three interfaces - Ethernet (cable), Wi-Fi (2.4 or 5GHz) and 3G/4G cellular broadband, but the best results are via cable and Wi-Fi isn't recommended. Actually it is possible via Wi-Fi anyway but better with an additional router that handles wireless connections, because the processor of that box is on a weak side. The box can run off the wall power, any 12V source with a barrel plug (a UPS battery with a piece of cable instead of wall adapter), or NP-F type battery (NP-F970 gives about 10 hours of uptime which I tested in real-life conditions).
The advantage of this thing is that I can be totally wireless without any cables anywhere where there is good and unclogged 4G cellular coverage or a decent Wi-Fi network. Practically it turned out to be more reliable streaming solution than Teradek VidiU that I also used at some point, if more tricky when it comes to initial setup (via web interface only). Once set up, you turn it on and within 20 to 60 seconds you are live. Disadvantages: you have to watch so that your camera isn't disconnected (not that easy with fool-proof SDI BNC connectors) or turned off, otherwise you have to reboot the box and your stream is interrupted. The sound works only with one codec (AAC 128k - good enough even for music though).
As well I have another HDMI-only, Ethernet-only, 12V-only streaming box that is drop-dead reliable and absolutely bug-free: you set it up via web interface, you plug it in and in 30 seconds you're live until you turn it off (one RTMP or RTSP stream up to 1080p and one up to 720p simultaneously)
Obviously microphones are plugged into my camcorder in that case, I have a good selection of those. I can also record broadcast-quality footage simultaneously for further use on my camera cards, as usual. With my camcorder I do not have menu overlays in HDMI, SDI, analog or composite outputs unless I expressly wish so and turn them on.
The backup capture solution that works with OBS and vMix but doesn't require either, is AverMedia Live Gamer Portable (old version). It needs a Windows PC and can capture analog and composite signals also, apart from HDMI (not simultaneously). In this case you would like an external sound device (LGP isn't exactly good with capturing audio over HDMI in my case, for whatever reason), so I can plug any microphone via Behringer XENYX 302USB or any other USB audio interface.
