    Quite similar setup for our conferences. Though I use now a Rodecaster Pro II for sound, especially because I need also a moderator directly talking with attendees in Teams and also feed back audio from online to the main room. As the new Rodecaster has those routing options including avoiding loopbacks, that works quite well.
    Thinking of using a Blackmagic DeckLink Quad HDMI Recorder in a PCIe to Tunderbolt box and OBS on a HP Zbook plus a small Stream Deck instead of the Atem mini in future. As nice it is having the Atem running independently and so keep PC load low, I just dislike the Blackmagic switcher software. You can do with OBS so much more and much easier PiP and scenes. But I will bring the Atem along to venues, just as a backup or if needed as hdmi to webcam converter (runs more stable than Camlink in my opinion).

    I would recommend hard wiring with SDI am whenever possible 3G SDI is all you need and anything over 1080p is over kill for live streams. Another thing is having all your cameras being plugged in for power is almost always crucial.

      I have USB power to a power bank always if I’m running a camera for longer than 30 minutes. I would run cables but in many situations it’s easier to go wireless and with no more than 50ft distance the latency is not noticeable.

    • @baroque_engineer
      @baroque_engineer Рік тому +2

      Camera placement highly depends on the nature of whatever you want to capture. Here is one rule of thumb that I personally follow: at least one camera should be dedicated to the overall view, to place the viewer in a context; this is also the minimum setup. Then, if you have a second camera, you can place it more to the side and maybe nearer to the stage to provide some depth and perspective. Alternatively, you can use zoom lens on the second camera to emphasize an area where some important action is anticipated. If you have one more camera, you can place it in a way that allows to cover areas which are underrepresented by the second camera. Any extra cameras can be used as spot cameras; for example, if you're working with a band, you can set up a camera for a member who is not the main soloist, but is going to play a solo at some point, etc.

    Quick question, I found that it’s better to use ATEM mini as main video processing device instead of using OBS, due to the reason that OBS will be using graphics card of the PC broadcasting. • @erwaers
    @erwaers 8 місяців тому

    HI Jerad!
    Just watched your Video and thank you for this!
    But one Point confuses me:
    Why you get more latency he longer the HDMI cable runs?
    You recommend converting to SDI. That's basically the correct way. But as you converting something you'll get latency.
    HDMI doesn't produces more latency the longer the cable is. HDMI was built for Consumers connecting DVD players with TV´s as example. There is no need for longer Cables than 15m.
    The next thing you recommend is, "go Wireless"
    Every wireless Connection, every Conversion adds latency. Much more than a longer HDMI Cable.

    Question for ya… running your cams through the ATEM switcher, does that act as your “encoder” or “capture card” so to speak? Or does your live-streaming platform do that processing for you? Kinda new to this but needing to do it for work. I’ve got 2 Dslr cams and I’ll be using a zoom podtrak P8 for audio and have been looking at the cam link or legato HD 60 X for the cameras (a7r3 and a FX3) just don’t quite understand how you get that encoding done for 2 cameras on the same device.

    I know its a level of complexity, but have you thought about having PTZ cameras as part of your rig instead? I was thinking Birddog PTZ cameras using NDI. Do you see positives and negatives in this? Being able to control them on an ipad makes it all more complex, but also more hands free.

      I am waiting for the Obsbot Tail Air - cheaper than Birddog cameras. I have good experience with Obsbots tiny 4k for small conference set-ups (break-out rooms where a bigger setup would be too expensive). But having now an Obsbot with HDMI out, NDI (not sure if I use), much better remote control looks promising...

    Thanks for the info you shared. I wanted to ask you how do you do to stream or record to the ssd (Is what I always do) in HD and record to the each camera in 4K. In the cameras should I press REC or I can do it through the ATEM?. Thanks! 🤙

    • @Volleykanalen
      @Volleykanalen Рік тому

      If you have Blackmagic cameras, you can send the rec command from the ATEM, but with any other brand you're gonna have to press the rec button on each of the individual cameras.

    Hi Jerad, thank you very much for your many tips in this video. We regularly use ATEM for transmissions. However, soon we want to stream a larger event with 4 cameras - we use 4x the Sony camcorder AX 53. My question relates to the sound. The speakers will be spread out on stage and will use different microphones. How do we get the sound transmitted without latency and synchronously? So far we've been using a Steinberg UR 44C as a mixer and can go stereo into ATEM from there. Or do you see a better setup?

    • @Red-ju4mi
      @Red-ju4mi 9 місяців тому

      Sound transmitted into the recording or house and are you recording house audio from mix then problem solved.
      Dont understand your question

    • @chrisnewton8418
      @chrisnewton8418 6 місяців тому

      If you are asking about the video to audio delay caused by the video stream latency, the simplest solution is to feed audio directly to one of the cameras, then extracted at the ATEM. The video latency will match the other cameras in the system and the audio stream will also have the same degree of latency because it is passing through the camera. There are other ways to digitally delay the audio an appropriate amount, but sending audio through a camera is the simplest.

    This was great information and I enjoyed the presentation. I did have a question that you stated that you used OBS from the Laptop instead of from the ATEM Mini Pro Extreme. Is there an advantage to doing that? I am using the Extreme presently within a more permanent environment. I have set up four Nikon Mirrorless cameras in the sound booth at the rear of a Church. The audio comes from a sound board and I use two inputs from computers. We Livestream the Church services and other events. I am always looking to improve my set-up. I started doing this during Covid like so may Churches did.

    • @ditchauto
      @ditchauto  Рік тому

      Sounds like a solid setup. I just use OBS because it’s easier to manage additional content and audio channels which I try to pull from the board as well. OBS also gives me another layer of security should there be an issue with the ATEM and I need to power cycle it. I also always have an Elgato USB stuck as a last resort should the ATEM completely fail me.

      I also was wondering the same thing. Also, if your actual livestream, with overlays and videos, is going from OBS and not the ATEN, it doesn't really help to record the ATEM feed (it is still good for backup I guess)

    • @ditchauto
      @ditchauto  5 днів тому

      I have used multiple cam links but most of my cameras can connect using USB now so I don’t really use cam links anymore. I try to limit overloading usb because it can cause a port to fail and the only way to get it back is to restart the computer.

    I’m looking to have a set up done like this, not for live streaming, but so someone can jump in, hit a button and screen capture and record on multiple cameras, that can later be edited. When the cameras are connected to the streaming deck, do you just tap record and all the cameras connected to it start to record at the same time?

      The Sonys have to be manually toggled. Some of Black Magic's cameras can be fully controlled by the ATEM. I've considered switching my studio cameras.
