    I'm a little off topic as it relates to this particular video,...but I've been practicing putting the back portion of my tongue to the roof of my mouth for the last 12 hours. In only that amount of time I'm stunned how much my posture has improved. My chest is out and my low back is positioned just right. It's very easy to do... Man that feels good!!! Thank you Dr. Mew!

    • @westfieldartworks8188

      Yes it does. Pressing the back 2/3 or 1/3 of my tongue corrects my posture when I drive behind the wheel or stand on the bus as well. Pressing the back 2/3 of my tongue to the roof of my mouth also improved a terrible habit I had of bringing my head forward to the spoon or fork, instead of bringing the spoon or fork to my mouth. Can't thank you enough.

    I’ve gone to swallow specialists when a kid, then braces, then physiotherapists... crooked teeth came back and airways constantly locked. Nothing really came together. I joined gym and started observing that good posture could open my airways, but there was still a missing link: I enjoyed eating only soft, juicy food. Public speaking is part of my profession, and I always had that desperate look for reaching for air. Not to mention dark circles. This brings literally a fresh breath to the matter. Thanks Dr. Mew! This video is the beginning of my everyday now.

      Orthotropics It’s been one week now and if I understand correctly the super cheesy smile is what really activates the back third, no? I feel it brings a totally new ergonomic move and the liquid seems to ‘fall into place’ more properly. I’ve also been doing lots of the gum exercise. The airways are basically unlocked all the time. Would the correct neutral posture be with the entire tongue at the top? With that slight ‘vacuum’ feel? Sorry if I’m nagging now. This has been already great.

    My jawline is the physical feature I've been most complimented for my whole life. I was watching these vides out of curiosity, and realized that most of the habits they teach (swallowing, jaw posture, etc) are ones that I've always done naturally. Of course it's possible that there are many genetic factors at play, but it does feel like it corroborates the idea that this stuff works in my mind.

    What I've come to notice it that if you're eating in a bad body-posture (forward head posture) swallowing correctly becomes a lot harder, and you'll start to use the buccinators to push the food upward in your mouth, since your head is tilted forward. Bring the food to your mouth instead of bringing your mouth to the food, and it wont be so much of a struggle swallowing correctly.

So long story short no doctors that i consulted gave me any remedies, hence i always had a runny nose and asthma like symptoms. Finally i took my problems onto my own hands and experimented with lot of diets and finally found out it was these carbohydrates that I ate everyday, in every meal. And now after seeing your videos I understand all that allergic symptoms prompted me to breathe through my mouth 24x7 bcos of the freaking carbs i dumped into my body and now i have crooked teeth and elongated face.

      I'm extremely late here, but my advice is to make sure you have proper posture, relax everything in your mouth and jaw but the tongue (your throat can move obviously), and try to push the back 2/3 of your tongue against the roof of your mouth, slightly further back than is comfortable. You'll find that you have no choice but to swallow. The first few are pretty uncomfortable - kinda like you're choking yourself with your tongue.

      i only learned to do it recently, but basically in proper mewing posture (whole tongue on roof), you drop the front of the tongue down, to sweep up the water, then bring it back up. this will naturally create a wave motion with the rest of the tongue following, taking the water to the back of your throat, hence swallowing

    I've been following you for quite some time, but I have a few questions. One is, what would you say is the optimal sleeping position for keeping good posture? I've read that ancient Indians used a special flat board to lay on which kept the baby's mouth from falling open. Also I read that sleeping on your left side helps organs to work more efficiently, but I have adopted sleeping on my back as the most effective (I think). I noticed it's harder to breathe when laying on my side/back and it could mess up joints in the shoulder in the long run. What are your thoughts on this? BTW I love y'all and everything y'all are doing. Keep up the good work. : )

    I think i'm doing it incorrectly, but I don't know what my mistake is. My problem is that when swallowing I'm just not able to swallow saliva 'cause it isn't on my tongue, so I swallow a tiny amount of it and the rest starts to acumulate on my mouth. I feel like I have to use my buccinators to put the saliva in the right place or like I have to move my tongue around my mouth to get the saliva on my tongue and then be able to swallow it. What am I supost to do? (Sorry for my english)

    • @poleag
      @poleag 6 років тому +24

      It seems the general rule is that you should use your tongue to scoop up saliva instead of trying to suck all the saliva back. But I think you make a good point. Although *some* saliva can be scooped up and then swallowed with an undulating motion of the tongue, there is also saliva that will tend to accumulate elsewhere in the mouth. For example, some of the saliva is going to pool between the molars and the cheeks with no easy way to scoop it up with the tongue. You will need some slight buccinator engagement to collect this saliva.
      No one swallows with 100% tongue and no one swallows with 100% buccinator. Perhaps a more accurate way to think about it is moving from a buccinator-dominant technique to a tongue-dominant technique.
