Hey mate, thx for your help. I'm not great with cars and I was a bit reluctant yo go messing under the hood ( spare parts, anyone?) I got my car serviced this week and one of the things that was going to cost me about 80$ extra was an air filter. I remembered I had one I bought nearly two years ago, so I told them I'll be ok cis I wanted to give it a shot . Your very was short and very easy to follow. I got a job I'd been fearing done in five mins. Thx again .
I love learning new things about my car and how I can help keep our running smooth. the best part however is you showing us that you too are only human. mistakes happen and nobody knows everything. thank you for showing us tips and tricks for the Mazda 2!
Really want to say thanks again for making this vid. Changed out both the engine & cabin filters today. Picked em all up at Auto Zone for $30. Couldn't believe how raggedy and MOLDY the cabin one was. It was hell getting them both in there though, but felt good when it was done! Also a note on the engine filter: the one I bought did not have any arrows or any directions. Took out old filter and noted position... the top left corner had a different edge than the rest (square instead of rounded). Only way you could tell how to put it in.
I love these videos, a Mazda 2 is a very popular car here in Oz, yet there's no decent tutorials available until this. Keep up the good work. Any chance of a video on changing brake discs and pads please?!!
Thanks for the video. You installed the new filter the opposite way around to the ones you took out. I was under the impression the tabs should be on the outside, same as the one you removed. I did mine yesterday and the only way it fitted was with the tab on the outside which then slots into the cover you screw back on.
The way I put them back was the only way they would go. I tried for quite a while off camera, much to my own frustration. The arrows which depict the direction of airflow are facing the correct way, so they are installed correctly. Your filters might be a slightly different looking design or something.
I'm so jealous you got the lime green Mazda 2. That was my first colour choice but I got such a good deal on a white one that was traded in after just one week of ownership that I couldn't pass it up. Had the car a little over 4 years now and I love it! Great video - thanks!
+Kyle Russ Our green one is a former Hertz rental. They're great cars, so I wasn't too hesitant to buy a "used and abused" one, as they say. It's served us well for over 20k miles so far.
I too had gross CAFs. We got the car at 14k miles and it was 64k when I checked them out. Total science experiment. And like yours mine is an ex rental. So changed them. Was a pain but got them in.
I changed my cabin filter today and I'm glad I did as old the filter had been incorrectly fitted the bottom half was in the wrong way round and had been forced in and now air coming out the vents is loads better
Hi, I own a 2009 Mazda 2 and I love it, perfect little car as a daily. Thanks for your videos, I can know do the little service like oil change, filter change etc.
HiroshimaSpirit the 2 has a better wheelbase, weight, and it's more fun. I think the engine is good but if it goes I wonder if the 2.3 or 2.5L would fit in the engine bay.
good video was at friends changeing pollen filter took me for ever to do lol was going to ask you to do a video on it and then saw you video in uk its on the drivers side so theres the clutch pedle etc to deal with to was tricky but got ther in the end
Sure enough, I did. They fit, so it probably doesn’t ultimately matter as long as the direction of airflow is correct. The tabs are only there to help remove them, so no big deal.
Hi there. Great video and keep up the good work. I found the channel very useful. However, I think that I am a bit confused about the way that the cabin(pollen) filters are pointing from disassembly from minute 1.26-1.31 and your explanation at minute 2.16-2.42. After consulting the workshop manual 07-11--44 I believe that the way that they were initially installed is actually the correct one. I just mentioned for further clarity.
Thanks! The filters only go in one way. Just look at how they come out and reinstall the same way. The arrows on the filter(s) indicate correct airflow. 👍🏻
Hi I have mazda 2 2009 model DE. Is it ok if you put in any direction facing upside or downside the engine air filter ? I don't seen any arrow or air direction unlike cabin air filter which shows the facing installation.
People told me the 2 didn't have a cabin filter, then I stumbled on the part looking at engine air filters. Mine were completely clogged! They looked like a coke was pored over them then dried. 234,000 mile before I pulled them. Now the AC blows like new, before it was nearly completely blocked and I couldn't figure it out. Water leaks in around my antenna, collects in the headliner, and when I hit the brakes, water pours out all over my dash and console, it sucks.
The tab was facing out from the top filter when you were pulling out the old dirty ones, and yet you say they go in with the tab facing in ? Which is the right way ?
Hi! I recently replaced my filter and found a lot of leaves / stuff in (what I think is) the radiator behind the filters. Any idea what I can do to best clean it up? I figure getting in there with an old toothbrush and a vacuum would be enough.
I just hope changing the cabin filters myself doesn't void my free oil changes at the dealership. They told me my filter is nearing replacement so I just going to change it myself and keep mom about it. See if they still say it needs replacing on my next maintenance/oil change appointment. Hmmmm... How honest are they???
Tried to replace the Cabin Filter myself just last Sunday, attempted for an hour with the instruction and still failed miserably like an idiot. Taking those filters out is easy, but aligning the 2 new pieces in such a narrow corner with a clutch nearby are much difficult than it looks. Turns out I toke it to the nearest mechanic to install it for me...... I am slim and the mechanic is far more weighted than myself but it toke him less than 10 minutes to align the filters. Still a long way to learn for myself.
HiroshimaSpirit Another one (question). Where is displayed the water temperature of the engine? I already bought one of these (the 1.3 86 hp version) and I got some troubles figuring out all of these kind of stuff. Sorry for my bad english, I hope you understand what I try to say.
There is no displayed water temp. Just a light to tell you if it’s cold or overheating. You need an aftermarket gauge or a scan tool for a real coolant temperature.
How can you clean the air conditioner air if it smells bad? I saw a video that you can spray a disinfectant spray through the air supply of the a/c but where is this located on a Mazda Demio?
Air conditioning intake holes are typically in/under the windshield cowl where the wiper arms and motor(s) are. Never had to find it on the 2, so I can’t say for sure. One trick I’ve seen used is putting your favorite dryer sheet in with the cabin air filter. Might be a good compromise.
Just to warn anyone dumb as me, the clean side of the engine air filter is facing upwards in this car as you can see in the vid...so don't just look at the top of it and think it doesn't need to be replaced (: Also, maybe I got unlucky but the generic air filter I got from Orileys for my Mazda2 was a little too thick and didn't allow the cover to properly close. So if you're buying from them, make sure it actually fits before you get it too dirty to return!
+Matt P That's why I specified to remove and inspect it, showing that I did so. I've had that problem with the filter seeming to not fit properly, too. In that case, it turns out it was just in upside down. Haha
i have a mazda 2 and i replaced the interior air filters.....it was an awkward difficult access to the location and the replacement filter comes in 2 pieces that are meant to stand one on top of the other apparently like balancing acrobats.....i was unable to get the replacement filters to stand on each other and they fell into a sandwich-like pile beside each other no matter what i tried......the air filter in the cabin is badly designed and worse located and i wasted about 2 hours fighting with it from an awkward muscle cramping back breaking position
Thank you so much for your videos! I'm going to work on changing my filters this week! :) I love my 2011 Mazda2 which, at just over 180k miles, is still running like a boss. Just curious, have you had any issues with the stock radio randomly cutting out? Sometimes it will come back if I bang on the dash, but lately, that has not been working too well...
The stock radio seems to be a weak point as these cars age. I personally haven’t had any issues with either of mine, but others definitely have. It seems to be a random thing. Some go bad, some don’t.
+TBRacing21 No problem! I've been slacking on it myself, clearly. I never realized how much better the HVAC system in the green car could be functioning, but there it is. So glad I did it.
I’ve never done it. Fuel filters aren’t really a common replacement item or problem with the 2. In other words, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Only way to replace it is to buy another $300-ish fuel pump assembly.
@@HiroshimaSpirit Ok, thanks for the info! Though I find it hard to believe that all mazda 2 models have a fuel filter in the tank, that would be a real headache for countries with less refined fuel.
