Hey fyi the torque specs for that bolt is 8 to 10 Nm or 71 to 88 in lbf
Pinned! Thanks! ✌🏻
@@HiroshimaSpirit np, i have more info if needed was looking for away to private msg but i see youtube removed it.
@@speedhead2k Wow, I can't find torque specs for my 2 anywhere online. Do you have a service manual for your car? I'd love to get new information like that 'cause I wanna get more hands on with my 2 someday. Thanks!
My daughter just bought a Mazda 2, and your videos have been SUPER helpful in getting me up to speed. Thank you!
Awesome! Welcome to the club. Glad to help! ✌🏻
Thanks for your time making this video, very helpful for my mazda2. Your very funny and humble, keep it up!
Thanks!
Damn bro respect to the mazda 2 ethusiast! I got one myself and you make doing any maintenance way easier to do. Thanks brotha keep it up 🤙🏼
Enjoyed your vid. I have a 3.. your vid made me appreciate the extra engine compartment space in my car soo much more now. Keep up the DIY. :)
You are a life saver
One of the best videos I’ve seen
I love you man ❤️
Just did this exact job, very informative, thanks HiroshimaSpirit
just finished doing this 2 hours ago and it was great! torques for the air covers and carborator body is 8-10 nm so i went with 9. for the air sensor since it's plastic, as soon as i saw to tops touched and a little more and it's done. my idle regulator have a screw instead of a bot and just torqued it to 3-4ish. first time to do it. and i wasn't expecting to see soo much gunk in there... i think i used more than half the can and it's not yet as clean as yours.. gonna do it again after 6 months when i changed spar plugs. thanks!
The coolant running through the throttle body is actually supposed to be "heatant": it's there to stop the throttle body from freezing in the winter.
Just what I needed!
Thank you, you're the best, really functional
very detailed video and useful even for professionals. Love your humility as well = we all make mistakes and overtorquing is like a rite of passage for mechanics :-)
Well done 👍
I think I fixed my 04 demio as well. There was some carbon build up in the throttle body and the MAF sensor was abit dirty as well. Before all this the car would stall, sometimes when trying to move from a stop light, other times when going up hill. But sinse I cleaned the throttle body and MAF sensor, the stalling and rough idling went. I'm still watching and hoping its actually fixed
Great post really helpful just look out as on my Mazda 2 2008 the cover over the ECU had bolts with no way of removing them other than drilling the heads off.
Looks like my 2010 is the same... no screws to be seen, only what look like rivets. Did you ever find the proper method to remove this plastic ECU cover?
@@paulf1071 I just worked on my 2014 Mazda and the 2 "screws" are hard to remove. They are held in place by a plastic retainer clip. You need to use a flat screwdriver to push the retainer clip up from the bottom while removing the screw at the same time. Alternatively you can use the flat screwdriver to pry up the plastic retainer while removing the screw.
@@kenk3146 Thanks Ken, I had a work-around where I was able to swivel part of the air intake out of the way for access to spark plug area etc. Will consider your trick the next time I'm working on the car. 😄
@@paulf1071 en la parte central con un destornillador de paleta se jala hacia arriba y listo
i think there is also a MAP sensor on the left of the intake, maybe a cleanup there is advised :)
So frustrating not to have a garage to _____ over my car. I can't do stuff out on the street! ;(
Could you make a video about Automatic transaxle Solenoids
Invest in a box of nitrile gloves and clean your engine bay for a more pleasant experience. Thanks for the video, lots of good info.
People say that all the time. Every time I wear rubber gloves they tear, I end up dirty anyway, and I throw them out before I’m done. Hands get dirty when you work on cars. It’s a fact of life.
At the moment of moving the butterfly it is uncalibrated, how did you do it so that it did not happen?
Greetings from Chile.
I'm sure that part is not a idle air control valve, I think it's the intake runner flap motor.
Great video, very descriptive. Now that it's been over a month since you did this are you still happy with the results?
Yup! Still running great.
Thanks for watching! ✌🏻
Hi friend, my mazda 2 tugs rusty when I change gear or when I am at low revs. Is this video helpful in solving this problem?
Hello can yo give advise on my mazda demio 2005 model its appear AT and engine check and when i drive its stick to 3rd gear and when i stop the engine the AT light is gone but check engine light still there sometimes its gone and normal but i think it had but problem with transmission
Hi there, enjoy your video thx! Just wondering do you need to do those Re Learning procedure for the computer after you cleaned the MAF sensor and thottle body? my mazda2 also experienced a very rough idle for a night last week and then it went back to normal. Maybe I should I try cleaning too.
If you want to go the extra mile and reset the ECU, just disconnect the battery while you work. 👍🏻
iat the sensor is exposed to water (such as a chamber cleaner) and now the engine can't start Is that the source of the problem? or there is another suggestion that the engine cannot start battery is sure to be good
Great video man. Just outta curiosity, how many miles do you have on your two 2's? I know your green car is over 100,000 miles and that makes me pretty optimistic 'cause my family plans on keeping our car for as long as possible. Thanks man!
Green car is at 135k and the silver one is approaching 50k. Barely broken in for each.
I want to buy a Mazda 2 2012 1.5 l GX manuel is IT a good car? It's used car 132000 km ? Will like to know where is the température Light???
Common issue is deterioration of the engine mounts that cause that noise, especially the top RH engine mounting.
@@BoerVanPretoria This is about the engine itself running rough. Not feeling engine vibration in the cabin. People conflate the two all the time. You can have perfectly good engine mounts and the car still run poorly.
Hey Hiroshima, I know this is unrealated but I had an important question I wanted to ask, it's about the exhaust hangers. I keep hearing something hitting something else under the car when I take off or do a 90° turn and I don't see anything hitting, have you solved this? Oem hangers seem to fit the best so far, mine is a 2014 Std 2.
I don’t have that issue, so I haven’t needed to solve it. Without being there to sense what’s going on it’s tough to diagnose. Hope you get it fixed!
Random question, what seat covers would you recommend for a mazda 2? (I have a 2012 dont know if that matters)
I’m not a fan of seat covers, so I couldn’t even begin to think of recommendations. Sorry!
was there a tube going into the IAC? it has a plastic tube coming off it but not connected to anything. Ive cleaned the MAF, throttle body, IAC but still running rough after changing the knock sensor, at a loss
Try cleaning the EGR valve.
hello you know if the air compressor of our mazda 2 is of fixed or variable displacement, I feel that mine connects and disconnects
No idea. The air conditioning compressor doesn’t constantly stay connected and running. It cycles when in use. That is normal.
There’s a follower here! And i got a question for you: does it make any sence that when the gear is in D while stop in a red light my RPMs falls down to 500 making the car vibrating like crap? 🥲 is this a common behavior? I’ve changed the 3 motor mounts, and i did everything you do in this video, please HELP!
Try carefully cleaning your crank angle sensor with a sensor-safe cleaner.
I recently purchased a 2011 Mazda 2. I'm looking for a great site to find parts new or used any help would rock sadly it's an automatic and not a manual.
Like, mods or maintenance? I always use Rock Auto for replacement parts. Join the ‘M2O Mazda2 Owners’ group on Facebook for used mods and plenty of info on anything you’d want new. Also, my video archive pretty much covers everything widely available/commonly done on these cars. 👍🏻
is there any gasket on the throttle body? Want to know if i need to replace that if i clean my TB.
I don’t recall if there is one. I didn’t replace anything.
Hey. My mazda 2 2009y 1.3L have problem.
Low RPM at idle (600rpm) and IT has very sensitive gas pedal. When I touch gas pedal just a little bit the RPM goes to 3000rpm at least. Where van be the problem?
I don’t know, ask a mechanic. Sorry!
Think you’ll ever do a vid on Carbon cleaning it? My 2 could use one and I’d love to see you do a tutorial on it
Carbon buildup is more of a problem for direct injection engines. I find with a more traditional engine all you need to do is drive it often and take it to redline a couple times weekly. The Italian tuneup has never let me down.
@@HiroshimaSpirit I got a 14 Touring and it says it’s GDI and yes ITUs are fun
Mine is a 2014 and definitely isn’t direct injection. The only DE-chassis that was DI was the 1.3L Skyactiv.
@@HiroshimaSpirit Ah I see. Hm always good to double check sources
Good job, where is the engine coolant temperature...
It’s a light. Blue for cold, red for hot.
How come that your engine bay is so dirty? and thx for another vid =D
I went... off-roading in the green car. lol
Hi Bro, may I ask where can I find the EGR of the M2?
I’ve never had to interact with it, but the EGR system should run from the exhaust manifold around to the intake manifold in some capacity. Poke around and you’ll find it.
My Mazda2 shuts down after running for a few minutes and creates explosions in the exhaust. What can be? PLease Help
Consult a mechanic.
Bro, do you have any email . I own a mazda 2 2008 DE, inside intake manifold there are 4 blades, one of them (cylinder 4) is missing, can I get off the other 3 blades without getting secondary effect ?
Hey man I broke one of the bolts that hold the iac valve in place how would I get the little bit outta the well?
Look up how to drill out a broken bolt.
HiroshimaSpirit I did. Unfortunately I don’t have the things to do the job so I’m probably gonna have to call a mobile mechanic to help me. Unless you have any other suggestions
Hi Cody. I`m in UK, stud removing kits do exist, try googling it where ever you are located.
I have the same engine in Mazda verisa
hi there, Where's the PCV valve located on the 1.3 Mazda 2 2009? thanks pal
Under the intake manifold.
@@HiroshimaSpirit Hiroshima brother, is there any video for the intake manifold removal? I need to remove it to acces the oil separator and swap the pcv. Thanks in advance
If there is, it’s not from me. I haven’t had that issue. Sorry!
is it possible to just clean the MAF sensor without having to fully taking the battery out? with just the battery unplugged?
Sure, but it’s a pain. If you’re going to undo the battery terminals you might as well remove it.
@@HiroshimaSpirit Yeah, I took a closer look and I think I know what you mean. Thanks!
Where did you order your cold air intake? Can u send me a link
Check my back catalogue of videos. Details about my intake aren’t that far back. 👍🏻
Good day, after cleaning the TB noticed that the TB buzzing in on position. Is it normal?
Haven’t experienced that. I couldn’t tell you. Sorry!
Press the accelerator pedal, if the pitch of the buzzing changes then it's just the servo for the drive-by-wire system doing its thing.
Hi, did you changed the PCV valve in this car please? thanks
I haven’t needed to, so no. Sorry!
@@HiroshimaSpirit Ok, thank you. My car is burning some oils so i thought i will start and change this guy first and see. Thanks for your prompt reply.
Do u have any info on 2003 demio chasis DY3W
I don’t, sorry. We didn’t get them here.
How many miles does the car have when you did this? I'm close to 100k now on my 2014.
The one in the video has 133k miles. It’s not mileage specific. If you need it you need it.
@@HiroshimaSpirit Hi,
Do you think you change the clutch in view of your 133 miles. If yes, the video interests me ;)
Can obd chip realy help remove throttle delays?
It’s not a “chip”. The ECU code gets rewritten with computer software. Throttle lag gets eliminated and the tune is optimized for better/increased power delivery.
Just changed your air filter often
Hi,my mazda 2 2012 Skyactive check engine light is on,what could be the issue.I don't want to waste money on fake mechs out here..
It could be anything. You have to scan the code.
@@HiroshimaSpirit I managed to scan but no error showed up.The mechanic cleared the light and said there's nothing wrong with the engine. This evening,it came back on.
I don’t know then, sorry. I’m not a trained mechanic.
BTW: That is not the idle air control you are cleaning starting at ~3:48. You are playing with the variable tumble shutter controller. At low engine speeds, it increases turbulence in the intake to improve fuel/air mixing. Because this car is drive by wire, it does not have separate idle air control valve - the throttle body does the job.
Every parts supplier I can find labels it as an idle air control valve. Whatever it is, the car runs better now.
this is correct as I have a mazda demio 2003 jdm that carries the IAC valve on the throttle body, with the tumble shutter controller on the far side of the manifold as in this vid, my issue as of now is it idles with mini fluctuations, when the AC is turned on it will stall after a while of driving, the ac compressor short cycles when rpm is 1000-2000 if i go above it the compressor stays engaged. while at normal idle and ac on while turning my steering constantly the compressor never engages. I am about to change the belt as that is 1 of my suspected issues, I have already cleaned my entire throttle body and value, I didnt spray anything into the tumble as i wasnt sure if the cleaner would damage it.
@@kronicali24 My daughter's 2011 Mazda2 has been idling rough and I have done all the throttle body & MAF cleaning, spark plug changing, new coil round robin swap, basically anything that looked reasonable. I started this after the local dealer kept blaming the AWR dogbone for the rough idle. (Just to prove them wrong, I put in an old link I got off a wrecked 2 and took the car back in - still shaking at idle. They ran diagnostics and said there was nothing wrong?!? So... I gave up on Mazda.)
After all the above, I decided to really clean this "IAC" valve and started to pull out the metal spacer / support that you can see at ~3:58 in the video. Don't do this! It holds the rod that rotates all the shutters and if you pull it out far enough, you can pull it out of the shutter in the intake for cylinder #1. Shortly afterwards, you will be removing the intake manifold while cursing yourself for not having bought a good service manual and Mazda for not sorting out the problem.
The car still idles rough but runs fine above ~1.1k RPM. It also has much better throttle response with the AWR dogbone torque reaction rod back in. (If you don't have one, get one. They are relatively cheap and work very well.) So that is how my kid is driving it. Since it just made a 2k mile trip to her university, overloaded with all her stuff while still returning 35 MPG, we are not complaining.
I still wish I could figure out why it is idling rough.
@@davidklein2224 thanks for the advice, i cleaned my iac valve but it didn't seem to be the issue, when i start the car it revs at 2000 rpm holds for 2-3 secs at 2k then decends to 1.1k it use to idle at a lower rate but after cleaning the entire throttle body it came up to that position. My car sometimes now shut off randomly without ac on and my foot on the break or turning the steering wheel while on flat or decending roads. Then it will struggle to restart turning over several times 4-5 seconds. I have never owned a mazda and this first experience is not sitting well with me. I took it to a mazda specialist so i am awaiting his verdict as he has experienced a similair if not same issue.
So i got my problem solved, it was the crankshaft senor, apparently the wire leads are very close to the compressor pull and some how got play to where the insulation was removed and was shorting the electrical system. the sensor was replaced aswell, she drives well now.
Very cheap solution for those home mechanics don’t want to spend to much money at dealers.
I did the thermostat on this car it sucked
Thermostats suck on most cars, to be fair.
@@HiroshimaSpirit I had to disconnect the ac compressor and then I could have room to do the job thxs for the video on the belt replacement I went ahead and put a new belt while I was doing that thanks for your videos 😊
This seem like a common problem with mazda 2
