    They are from the Ukraine. This was recorded live in the studio but they did go back and layer different tones of Tatiana’s vocals. Like lows and mids. Though all vocals are her. You can watch a truly live vid and she can deliver effortlessly and with a lot of stage presence.

      @@EmiPellegrinoMusic Yep. Tatiana says that some of their songs have been inspired by Ukrainian folk stories and also of the Ukrainian political conflicts that go on there. Pisces seems like a personal song to her, she is a Pisces. So lots of fish reference, and "Neptune's child" refers to Neptune being the astrological ruler of Pisces. Also her earrings have goldfish in it. Great analysis and I think you can learn Fry vocals easily.

    • @haraldschuster3067
      @haraldschuster3067 4 роки тому +10

      Well, the sound is not as much "done" as you "get it". It's mostly a result of all your resonance spaces and you have little to no control over that. She does stand out with her deep pitch which is mainly due to the shape of her head and her upper body resonance and allows her to have a deeper and more full sound than many males and it lacks the higher overtones (if she wants to) which usually reveal that it's a lady screamer. She's truly outstanding - and the band is excellent as well.

    Tatiana is self trained. There are some behind the scenes where you can hear her tracking just the vocals. She used to sing Otep songs into a pillow as loud as possible then she would go outside and yell at cars passing by. When she was 18/19 she found she could do a Randy Blythe-Lamb of God delivery.

    Enjoyed your reaction!! Just FYI:
    Jinjer are from Ukraine:
    Tatiana Shmailyuk - vocals (since 2010)
    Roman Ibramkhalilov - guitars (since 2010)
    Eugene Abdiukhanov - bass (since 2011)
    Vladislav Ulasevich - drummer (since mid 2016)
    If I may: Tatiana is a self-taught, untrained singer that models herself after Randy Blythe (Lamb of God), Amy Winehouse, and Otep Shamaya. The other three members are superb players and musicians as well.

    This song is the most "shocking" for some people that haven't heard them, but it's not their best work, and only shows about 50% of her range. You are spot on about practicing a certain way over and over and then trying it a slightly different way before adding other skills. Case in point, eons ago (early 60’s?) I was reading a Wheaties cereal box about the story of LA Lakers great Jerry West. He explained how he became such a great basketball shooter, in essence he would pick out something like 8 different spots around the basket and start trying 10 shots from each spot. He did not move on to the next spot until he made all 10 shots in a row on the first spot, then on to the next spot and if he missed one of his 10 shots he would go back to the beginning and start over until he could complete the entire 8 position circuit without a single miss, only then did he move onto other basketball skills. Yep, practice over and over and over...lesson for any skill to truly master that skill.

    Great to actually see someone analyze the growl/scream part of this finally. Even though you're not a professional vocal coach I think you have a very good understanding of whats going on. When I was actively doing growl/scream vocals in bands a few years back I had much less technical understanding about how it works, I was more like one of those "dunno! I just do it" kinda guys. I learned to know my voice pretty well though and so developed a range and also a the technique to not hurt myself doing it. Today I know that I was mostly using false cords and manipulated the technique to be able to go low and high (naturally I get a kind of "mid-high" sound).
    Very nice reaction and analysis! :)

    Jinjer is a band from Ukraine, not Italy... still an interesting video reaction... I feel like what she is doing is fry scream, not false chord... false chord is more grunty and because the vocal chords are open it is hard to control air to get that type of melodic effect and sustained sound production... although I've seen her do a mix of both in their songs... Tatiana is an amazing vocalist and supposedly has no real training. The whole band is epic, for a 3 piece band they make a huge sound on stage, and it is just flawless... I can't wait for them to come back to NYC in September.

    It would be amazing to see you react to Nightwish - Ghost Love Score live from tampere (2013). They are fronted by (in my opinion) the single best female vocalist alive today ( who also looks like a nordic Goddess), and they are one of the best live bands in the history of rock and metal...as good as Queen was at their peak. Great band, good song, Tatiana is a fucking BEAST. This song is a decent intro to the band, but in all honesty is kind of bland compared to a lot of their stuff (although i DO love this song). Really nice reaction and analysis with explanation about different pitches in the metal singing.
    Agreed. It takes years of practice.
    I am myself a counter tenor with a range of F#1 - F6 and shouter. I mix both styles with subharmonics and overtones. Freddie Mercury is my mentor and he was the reason why I started singing at the age of 9. At the age of 21 I got into classical after hearing Andrea Bocelli. At the age of 24 I started with metal singing. I am 34 now.
    One little thing to say is that my singing voice is pretty loud and it's hard for me to exercise at home because I have to lower my voice and I sound pretty bad when I record stuff 😅
    A little bit of back story: I had a break for about 3 and a half years due to a heavy depression and I started to sing again last year.
    I really liked this reaction video on one of my favorite songs :)

    great video :) a lot of people tried to correct me when i said it was a false chord on another video so i feel vindicated lmao. but even if it's a fry a good fry scream still resonantes in the false folds to some extent. that's why you get overtones when doing fry screaming. the cool thing about the false folds is that you can get that extremely low rumble...it's like subharmonic singing (or mongolian throat singing) you can get different overtones and polyphonic notes to come out. your false folds can resonate an entire octave lower than your glottal folds. so if a girl can sing down to an e3 with a super developed use of false folds she could get all the way down to an e2...which is a male bass note. the screams can do a little bit of this with that low rumble...she wouldn't be able to make a pitch that low with her true or glottal cords...but she can with the false folds. it's pretty cool. i recommend anyone to look up subharmonic singing...it's super cool...it's what a lot of bass singers use to go extremely low (like first octave low) the throat singing is cool too...the difference is you use your glottal cords to make your false folds resonate...and this means you're signing 2 different notes (polyphonic) while subharmonic singing it's only the super low false cord note.

    • @disturbed4everluke
      @disturbed4everluke 5 років тому

      @@Rosannasfriend i'm talking about the sub harmonic. a false cord scream is definitely done using the false cords you're correct. it's just that false cords can resonante an octave down from your glottal cords...so that's what i was referring to...to some extent you can get that same octave lower than your normal voice tone by using false chord screams. so it's kinda the same as subharmonic singing.

    it is "live", but it's obvious that it was mixed/mastered. 12:22 and 15:22 her vocals are clearly double-tracked. still an impressive performance, but typically any "official live video" has been worked on. that said, she still sounds great live.

    She's NOT doing false chord screaming - she'd be out of air. The way she can do these passages without breathing means her vocal chords are closed, not open. Hence no false chord screaming, it's called fry screaming in English, I think. And she's a master of it.

    • @Deth_Kitty
      @Deth_Kitty 4 роки тому +2

      You can mix the open and closed chords but you better not do it too much and be careful not to go have a vocal rupture. Already seen this year where at least four male 'screamers' have had a vocal rupture. FFS people be careful with your effin voice!

    For the fact that she can do the below, she is skilled. A lot of vocalists that are into metal are extremely skilled.. There are techniques in doing such. The harsh screeching and to do some acrobatic below combination are typical in metal or in extreme music. Her singing voice though is straight and typical. :)

    Female growlers/screamers aren't that rare in metal these days, but, Tatiana is just able to go SOOO low, it's rather extraordinary. She gets an even lower pitch than most male vocalists. She sounds like Randy Blythe, but, lower. And, let's not overlook the band! They are AWESOME players, especially, the rhythm section! Eugene, the bass player, is a friggin' BEAST, and, Vlad's drumming is out of this world. I have tickets to see them in Philly in October, and, I am super stoked to get to see them live.
