@@justsomejerseydevilwithint4606 I played mage in DS1 and DS2 & I have to agree, the boss battles and the game in general felt like it was more designed towards melee combat, it didn't feel as engaging playing the game ranged than it did playing melee. Switched over to a battle mage because of this and started enhancing weapon rather than using pure spells, think that's the sweet spot for people wanting to go mage builds as it still keeps the engaging melee combat.
I really feel like the game is not designed around dex builds. My first few playthroughs were dex builds and I struggled a lot. Once I tried a strength build, it was like playing on easy mode. You can stun tons of enemies, you do way more damage, and you have a ton of poise. You don't get any of that with dex builds.

Best tip I can provide: just keep your eyes open. Many things are not missable if you just stop and survey your surroundings. That goes for enemy ambushes and items alike, and most importantly: shortcuts! Ok, next best tip is that a sword you should be getting to soon, the ice sword (you'll know the one) is very, and I mean VERY new-player friendly, and can carry you the entire game. A tip for spotting mimics is to watch the chests closely: actual treasure chests tend to look a little darker, but the biggest tell is that mimics breathe. Check if the lid is moving up and down.
Just started playing a few days ago and have been getting recommended a lot. I’ve only played this game and defeated the abyss watchers. I got back to that point today and everything from here on is new territory. Can’t wait to keep up with the gameplay 👍
I'm out here praying you will style through the game with the "Farron Greatsword" (Abyss watchers weapon). ( D scaling 18 STR, C scaling 20 DEX). It's an "Ultra greatsword" that when 2 handing you can parry. The special attack combo on it feel incredible to use, not sure how meta it is, but it worked for me, and if nothing else just the cool factor alone is worth it.
Your reaction to the cutscene at the beginning “should I have played ds1 and 2 before this?” was my own😂 I bought ds1 and 2 when I reached the final boss in base game and final boss in the dlc, and I’ll come back for them when I finished the first two
New to your videos, love the music editing you got going for both fights and chill. reccognize allot of them from other games. If you want to go hard on greatswords, this game lets you do that by going a str build. you can also respecc your stats a few hours into the game if you need to. Another thing to think about for scaling of weapons is using gems at the blacksmith, some gems favors str scaling more, even if its not a big huge sword. If you want some broken weapons, try the twinswords or twindaggers you get a few hours into the game.
Okay so because you skipped ds1 and 2, a lot of this isn't gonna make sense That's fine, just do what you feel like. If you want some of the basics, let me know, but to get the full picture, you should play DS1 and DS2
There is a guts sword in this game, you'll find it in a poison swamp. The closest analog to Maliketh's Black Blade would be Lorian's Greatsword, which is a fairly late game weapon.
21:09 because they cared more about level design than a cheap out lol. I get what you mean, but having a near shortcut back that promotes world interconnectivity is way cooler than a stake of marika
Besides the first 2 dark souls, you should also try at some point the Demons souls remaster. The first dark souls is one of my favorites, but it does feel so clunky. Dark souls 2 most people love it or hate it. I played all of them and loved them all, but dark souls 2 is definitely the last one in my list.Dark souls 1 level design is just great.
You can tell if a chest is a mimc by two things...1)if you wait and look at it youll see that it breathes from time to time...2)all chest have a chain on the side...regular chests=curved chain mimic chest=straight chain Pro tip:since you go for str build the best weapon to take is dragonslayer greataxe +5...you get it by trading the soul of the same boos in firelink...the weapon art is practically a one hit kill for most enemies and some of the bosses

the raw gem maximizes damage of a weapon without stats which is only good early game heavy gem is for strength and the sharp gem is for dex, there is also fire and magic ones for other builds but you most likely want the heavy gem since you favor strength.
Stance breaking isn't really much of a thing yet in dark souls 3.There are moments in some boss fights where you can get similar staggers like you would in Elden Ring if you're using a weapon where you can attack consistently enough to proc it, but it's not really a thing yet where you can stagger most bosses or even normal enemies with charged heavies and weapon arts (the equivalent of skills you get from ashes of war in Elden Ring). Charged heavies don't really have as much of a distinct purpose here yet, it's just something you can do sometimes for more damage if you can time it well enough
yo!! Lore guy is returned An FYI, dark souls 3, unlike 2, is a direct sequel to DS1 storywise, and there are characters and terms mentioned that are learned in the previous games. I'll go over the very gist of it and what you need to know The world shifts back and forth between ages of darkness where there's nothing, and ages of fire, the age of humanity It is kept in these ages by a LITTERAL (not metaphorical) fire that keeps the world alit known as the first flame. this is an actual physical fire in the world somewhere back in the previous dark age, the land was ruled by dragons up until several powerful people with powerful souls waged war on the dragons for the right to the earth, made them go borderline extinct, and ushered in the new age of fire. one of the BIGGEST players in this was Gwen. He is basically a god and the most powerful being in the DS universe by a wide margin, and his kids and family who inherited his power are likewise referred to often as gods. They're also functionally imortal and dont seem to age after a few thousand years, the fire started to go out and gwen panicked, fearing the return of the age of dark and as he saw it, the end of humanity and the world. He tried A BUNCH of different ways of solving the issue that all created their own problems we'll get into as they become relavent to the game, but eventually he figured out you could feed and kindle the first flame by sacrificing a powerful human. you burn them alive in the first flame as kindling. This is called "linking the fire." he burned himself in the flame and became known as the first "lord of cinder" extending the age of fire another few thousand years probably. That's what a lord of cinder is, it's people who commited arson suicide to extend the age of fire and keep the world alit. Gwens followers ensured that becoming a lord of cinder was seen as the pinacle of respect and created a prophesy that someday, a chosen undead would follow in gwens footsteps and link the flame, becoming the second lord of cinder. that chosen undead was our character from dark souls 1, who canonically likewise extended the age of fire. DS3 takes place some tens of thousands of years later after there have been COUNTLESS lords of cinder. however, the person who was set to be the next lord of cinder, for whatever reason, whether justified or not, has refused to link the flame, and its starting to go out. so a bell of awakening that raises the dead called up past lords of cinder to try and get them to link the flame a second time (the named dudes in the cutscene plus ludleth, the dude in the chair in the shrine). however, all of them, for one reason or another, ALSO refused for their own reasons, or are unable to again. so the bell rang AGAIN and called up ashen ones, special undead usually with relations to the risen lords of cinder, to hunt them down and forcefully bring them back to firelink shrine so the flame might burn again as such, your god given quest is to slay and hunt the escaped lords of cinder, all of which are gods or legends in their own right, and use their ashes as kindling to allow you to link the flame. but as for why the most recent to-be lord refused, and why the past lords refused, and whether there's any validity in that, you'll just have to find out yourself and make your own decision on the journey
Ayyyyy! It’s great to see you again my guy! And holy shit you delivered but yet again. It makes so much more sense now in terms of what I’m doing. I thought I was just bringing down old lords of some type but didn’t know I was actually hunting them lol. Thank you so much my guy!
i love how you say you want a great sword then you don't even try to pick up the claymore near the dragon XD one of the best great swords in dark souls 1 and 3 good thing you went back for it afterwards
Statue of merika is just built in back up saves. I use back ups for most single player games with tough bosses or levels. Vets will run to the boss, quit out, back the save, and revert if they die. That way you don't need to redo the run and keep souls.
The chain next to a chest tells you if its a mimic or a regular chest. If the chain lies there in a perfect circle, its real. If the chain lies there in a more or less straight line its a mimic. Thats also true for DS1
Good news, the guts sword is, in fact, in DS3. Its one of the many "transcendent" weapons in the fromsoft armory. thankfully you get it while still in a "lower level" area soon TM. once you get to your first poison swamp (thank you miazaki) dont leave that bitch until youve got your sword! theres no real equivalent to the maliketh sword but strength builds get to have a fun time in DS3 and im sure you will be tempted multiple times in your playthrough :)
There are a couple of tricks for mimics you should know. Always check the chain connected to a chest. If it's coiled, it's a real chest. If it's uncoiled, it's a mimic. Additionally, to get the loot without fighting the mimic, throw an Undead Hunter Charm at it. Normally, these throwbales will prevent estus usage (making them largely useless in PvE), but they'll cause the mimic to open its mouth and let you take its loot.
21:09 I actually don’t really like the Statue of Marika mechanic. I understand the necessity for it in a game as large as Elden Ring and from a convenience standpoint. For my taste a bit too much convenience coming from the original Dark Souls trilogy as a player. Of course, there are boss run backs I absolutely despise such as running back to Martyr Logarius (to name a Bloodborne example) where I’d gladly take a Statue of Marika before the boss room any day instead of having to run for ages. In general, I think though that most boss run backs are okay and one thing I think suffered from this mechanic is the shortcuts. In ER you still get relatively many but most of them are utterly useless since you unlock them when you’re done with the area, connect unimportant areas or are worthless bc of fast travel
oh nice, going for Dark souls 3! while I would love to watch the series go on, I don't want to spoil myself on the series, so I think im going to hold off till I play it!
You can get weapons from bosses souls. It works like remembrances in elden ring. But you have to talk to a little man seated on a throne on the firelink shrine.
No man bloodborne and elden ring are the best. Dark souls 3 is amazing not gonna lie. I have played it like 100 hours but the levels feels a bit cheap. The weapon movesets are similar to each other. Sekiros levels are feels cheap too. But bloodborne and Elden rings levels are… OHHH!
@@Subtobnb835DS3 is easily better than Bloodborne and Bloodborne levels aren’t even that special. Especially not their bosses lmao. The weapon movesets are also not that similar to each other unless you’re specifically referring to the same weapons. There’s loads of different weapons and types with completely different movesets. Elden Ring’s levels also aren’t really better. It’s just a massive open-world, which gives up a ton of replayability as a result. Plus it reuses many bosses and enemies which decreases the quality of content
Excited to watch this series, DS3 has the best bosses in all of the soulsborne games IMO and some of the best tracks. Make sure to check out the DLCs too, god tier bosses.

If that’s the weapon from the intro boss that I said look fire, then I’m 100% gonna try it
Your reaction to the cutscene at the beginning “should I have played ds1 and 2 before this?” was my own😂 I bought ds1 and 2 when I reached the final boss in base game and final boss in the dlc, and I’ll come back for them when I finished the first two
New to your videos, love the music editing you got going for both fights and chill. reccognize allot of them from other games. If you want to go hard on greatswords, this game lets you do that by going a str build. you can also respecc your stats a few hours into the game if you need to. Another thing to think about for scaling of weapons is using gems at the blacksmith, some gems favors str scaling more, even if its not a big huge sword. If you want some broken weapons, try the twinswords or twindaggers you get a few hours into the game.
if you want to skip a big boss fight later in the game, after you get the banner from the old lady, smack her dead, congrats-- BOSS SKIP! 😎😎😎😎😎
Okay so because you skipped ds1 and 2, a lot of this isn't gonna make sense
That's fine, just do what you feel like. If you want some of the basics, let me know, but to get the full picture, you should play DS1 and DS2
great video! I love this game and you my sir earned yourself a sub
Appreciate the support my guy!
That FFXIV Shadowbringer intro song was a nice touch haha. You play that game as well?
There is a guts sword in this game, you'll find it in a poison swamp. The closest analog to Maliketh's Black Blade would be Lorian's Greatsword, which is a fairly late game weapon.
21:09 because they cared more about level design than a cheap out lol. I get what you mean, but having a near shortcut back that promotes world interconnectivity is way cooler than a stake of marika
I love your fromsoftware gameplays, hope to see future vids ❤
The first hurnter OST at the beginning 🥺
Can't believe I missed you finally finishing Bloodborne. Ah well, now i got stuff to watch so I call it a win.
Ayyy, hope you’ll enjoy this one my guy!
@Square Face Your commentary is fire! GG man.
8:37 LMAO using Devola here fits so nicely xd
3:44 "Wait, I'm not supposed to die in the beginning are?" Bro has traumas 💀💀
Hey, i just wanted to make sure. The music you played in the background since you entered the Firelink Shrine was from Nier: Replicant, right?
From Nier 2010 more precisely. The newer replicant versions are slightly different and more orchestral.
16:49 Compared to Oprhan Of Kos, all of dark souls is easy
Well, almost all of it...
You can tell if a chest is a mimc by two things...1)if you wait and look at it youll see that it breathes from time to time...2)all chest have a chain on the side...regular chests=curved chain mimic chest=straight chain
Pro tip:since you go for str build the best weapon to take is dragonslayer greataxe +5...you get it by trading the soul of the same boos in firelink...the weapon art is practically a one hit kill for most enemies and some of the bosses
I used Claymore for mobs and Dragonslayer greataxes for bosses. And yes, its amazing
That’s actually great info, appreciate it my guy!
love the nier music you used so far (9 minutes into the video as of writing)
the coiled sword you wanted to use is the weapon you get from the soul of the final boss, so if you want you can use it for the dlc or for ng+
Gah damn, talk about spoilers.
@@sunlesssirrisget real dude its an 8 year old game.
@@itaxevasixn8808 it's people like you that don't appreciate the impact of having the experience of realizing things for oneself. It may be an eight year old game but the dude is playing it for the first time right now ya douche-nozzle.
@@itaxevasixn8808 it may have came out eight years ago, but the dude is playing it for the first time right now. Imagine how impactful it would've been for him to make the connection between the firelink sword and the coiled sword himself.
the raw gem maximizes damage of a weapon without stats which is only good early game heavy gem is for strength and the sharp gem is for dex, there is also fire and magic ones for other builds but you most likely want the heavy gem since you favor strength.
I hope we get to see all the souls games in a series :O
You can get guts' sword very early game, so before the moonlight sword, get the greatsword
Thank you for the info my guy!
Good stuff. I've also only discovered this game in 2024. It is fire indeed 👍
this channel is great how tf do u only have 5k subs man 😭😭
yo!! Lore guy is returned
An FYI, dark souls 3, unlike 2, is a direct sequel to DS1 storywise, and there are characters and terms mentioned that are learned in the previous games. I'll go over the very gist of it and what you need to know
The world shifts back and forth between ages of darkness where there's nothing, and ages of fire, the age of humanity
It is kept in these ages by a LITTERAL (not metaphorical) fire that keeps the world alit known as the first flame. this is an actual physical fire in the world somewhere
back in the previous dark age, the land was ruled by dragons up until several powerful people with powerful souls waged war on the dragons for the right to the earth, made them go borderline extinct, and ushered in the new age of fire. one of the BIGGEST players in this was Gwen. He is basically a god and the most powerful being in the DS universe by a wide margin, and his kids and family who inherited his power are likewise referred to often as gods. They're also functionally imortal and dont seem to age
after a few thousand years, the fire started to go out and gwen panicked, fearing the return of the age of dark and as he saw it, the end of humanity and the world.
DS3 takes place some tens of thousands of years later after there have been COUNTLESS lords of cinder. however, the person who was set to be the next lord of cinder, for whatever reason, whether justified or not, has refused to link the flame, and its starting to go out. so a bell of awakening that raises the dead called up past lords of cinder to try and get them to link the flame a second time (the named dudes in the cutscene plus ludleth, the dude in the chair in the shrine). however, all of them, for one reason or another, ALSO refused for their own reasons, or are unable to again. so the bell rang AGAIN and called up ashen ones, special undead usually with relations to the risen lords of cinder, to hunt them down and forcefully bring them back to firelink shrine so the flame might burn again
as such, your god given quest is to slay and hunt the escaped lords of cinder, all of which are gods or legends in their own right, and use their ashes as kindling to allow you to link the flame. but as for why the most recent to-be lord refused, and why the past lords refused, and whether there's any validity in that, you'll just have to find out yourself and make your own decision on the journey
Ayyyyy! It’s great to see you again my guy! And holy shit you delivered but yet again. It makes so much more sense now in terms of what I’m doing. I thought I was just bringing down old lords of some type but didn’t know I was actually hunting them lol. Thank you so much my guy!
PLEASE upload more of this💯 and fast bro 😭this video was awesome
Thank you for the support my guy!
greatswords are a solid path for a build in this game, look in the swamp for my favorite (you’ll know when you get there)
Yes there is a Guts greatsword. Get it!
"I shouldve picked fire gem" lol my thoughts exactly
i love how you say you want a great sword then you don't even try to pick up the claymore near the dragon XD one of the best great swords in dark souls 1 and 3 good thing you went back for it afterwards
12:45 my guy thought the fire gem would help him 💀💀
If you dig strength builds go for it! A lot of the coolest weapons are big, nothing is as satisfying as a huge hammer or monstrous sword going bonk.
You're supposed to put the sword into the bowl in the center of the base. Allows for saving
Thank you for the info my guy!
I’ve always loved the look and story of souls games but am super bad at them so I enjoy watching your videos
Last time I played Dark Souls 3, I was doing a fist only run, so seeing higher damage numbers feels weird haha.
Parying in DS3 is pretty hard so you better try upgrading dex
2:35 What OST was this?
My guy, try using your torch on the black parasites. Does wonders. 🥂
oh nice, going for Dark souls 3! while I would love to watch the series go on, I don't want to spoil myself on the series, so I think im going to hold off till I play it!
Yay! New SquareFace content! Welcome back man!
Appreciate the support my guy!
If you love strength builds, my favourite is called Vordts Hammer. It’s very good.
15:30 Embers! Like great runes, they're your multiplayer item, but unfortunately, if you want to have a Full Healthbar, you have to use one.
I would would subscribe just to watch you do a first play through of dark souls 3.
Glad you came back dude
Thank you for the support my guy!
Dont forget you can always ember when low on health and out of estus, it will heal you to full + bonus health
You can get weapons from bosses souls. It works like remembrances in elden ring. But you have to talk to a little man seated on a throne on the firelink shrine.
ah bloodborne and dark souls 3..the best from soft games ever made
No man bloodborne and elden ring are the best.
I recently completed both elden ring and bloodborne and I’ve been contemplating if i wanna get dark souls 3
Dark Souls 3 is the pinnacle of Fromsoftware
Excited to watch this series, DS3 has the best bosses in all of the soulsborne games IMO and some of the best tracks. Make sure to check out the DLCs too, god tier bosses.
I can't wait for him to fight the ultimate homeless man, Slave Knight Gael. God that fight was awesome.
Tbh I didn’t like the dlc boss fights. Every DLC they always give the bosses crazy HP.
@@ExpertContrarian you're supposed to fight the DLCs before the final boss, they looked good to me
@@kamigirl_and? They’re still much tougher than the final boss every time.
@@ExpertContrarian they all have their weaknesses
