  • Ultralight rod videos are back! I have heard a lot of good things about the Bass Pro Shops Panfish Elite so I decided to pick it up and give it a try. Not only does the rod feel great, I absolutely crushed the fish. It was nice to put a lot of flex in it during the test.
    More Ultralight Rod Videos: • Ultralight Fishing Rod...
    Overall, I really like the rod and think it is a great option for multispecies anglers looking for a one-size-fits-all ultralight. It has a fast enough tip to drive the hook home on a jig but it has enough flex to also use treble hooked baits or target species with softer mouths like Crappie or Trout. It honestly feels about like the Temple Fork Trout & Panfish except a little cheaper. I personally like the TFO more but they are both solid options.
    Stay tuned for more ultralight rod videos... Also, I will be giving away numerous rods on my social media throughout the year so keep your eyes peeled for that.

    I've been using the 6'8" ultralight in this series for the past year or so and I have stopped using my other ultralights. I am using mostly the Donkey Tail Jr. on 1/32nd Mule jig, as you have here. Sometime the horse fly. Only difference is I use closed face triggerspin reels and 4lb high vis mono. This rod has handled anything from 3 inch sunfish to 4lb catfish and bass. I find it to be plenty sensitive with a great bend to it. TFO uses G Loomis blanks if I remember correctly so they are sure to be more sensitive. I even use this one for a dropshot and it works well. I like the reel seat. Mine doesnt have the issues you describe. The tighten from the rear design keeps the seat short so I can keep my index finger on the actual blank. I'm not a fan of cork so the EPS foam is fine for me. It's very durable and will last a lifetime. Guides are all quality and have held up through numerous rough trips. Overall I couldn't be happier with this rod. Without upgrading to super expensive or hard to get Asian rods, this is as good as it gets in my opinion.

      Yep I use the mules and 1/32 ounce jig or same size from pig jigs. Hard to find a rod that’ll actually cast those a decent distance and this one really lets them fly

    Great review, it’s spot on how I feel about my 6’8” 1 piece. I wasn’t thrilled with the grip so I cut off the eva and put a small Winn grip removed the butt cap and replaced it with a Winn grip to match. Last added a little weight to the butt for balance and voila… love it.

    I recently bought this rod in September 2023, and wanted to say that for its pricepoint, the rod really is solid and lives up to its name. Ive been getting all kinds of fish with BassPro UL panfish series, that it really can take a beating from hravier fish but also fish finesse for panfish and small bass. The reel seat, at times, needs to be tightened. But that is just me trying to cast a mile as if I had a bigger, heavier rod. The guides are perfect in size to where casting with braid to leader does not impede your double uni knot. And if you use a stop bobber on your line for float fishing, the guides dont interfere. Overall, this is a great mid-entry ultralight spinning rod with great action, soft tip, and great backbone.

    I have this combination of Diawa Legalis reel and BPS panfish Elite rod only in the 6'2" size. Fished it a few times this early winter and really like it. A good value that performs like a much more expensive setup...using a black 3/32 mule jig with Dakota Sunrise Donkey Tail is a fish catching machine! Rainbow Trout, small bass and slab crappie have all been caught on it! Your video helped me decide to order the BPS rod! Thank you...

    I have 2 of these rods and I love them. One is a 6’8” ultralight that’s a 1 piece and the other is a 6’8” light that is 2 pieces. Very sensitive and cast a country mile. I have caught numerous big bluegill (8”+) and decent size crappie (8-10”) on the ultralight version and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve also caught several largemouth over 2lbs and it handled them like a champ. The biggest one I’ve caught on this rod was 3.5lbs! And that’s on 4lbs test! Haven’t fished with the light version yet because I had so much fun with the ultralight.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  2 роки тому

  • @natebonebusta
    @natebonebusta 2 роки тому +2

    I’m glad you gave it a shot, and did a review. I feel completely opposite about the TFO vs the Panfish Elite. To me the balance wins on the elite. I do believe the 6’ is the sweet spot. The 6’8” to me doesn’t cast as far as the 6’. Good fishing session workout with those bass for the PE. I too like you had a rod delivered broken due to crappy packaging but they gave me $10 off and replaced it.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  2 роки тому +2

      Honestly that is why I try not to dog on balance too much. It is totally a preference thing. I have found the TFO 6' balance very neutrally with my size 1000 reel whereas this was a very similar balance but slightly more tip heavy for me. Nothing wrong with either. I like a neutral balance far more than when they are super tip heavy (like St Croix tends to be).
      Thank you so much for the recommendation. I will be recommending this rod to several people now that I have used it. I think it is a stellar option for the price.

    I recently got this rod and paired it with a 3000 Shimano Nexave cuz that's what I got and damn, this rod makes me so happy! It looks like they were meant for each other 😍 I put 10 lb braid on it with some 4 pound fluoro and I caught so many fish today!!! I'm addicted to ultralight fishing now! I was thinking and I wonder if the larger spool size, despite the fact that I hardly cast any distance of line to make a dent in the spool, is making it cast further? I was worried the reel would make the rod feel unbalanced, but to my surprise I really like it. The 6'8" length kinda evens it out and makes it not look like I'm throwing a fairy wand 😂 I've yet to try any micro cranks on it, but I feel it would handle them just fine. I was throwing a white crappie magnet jig head with a bit in half ZMan baby goat today and omg that bait was the TITS! I got into bass fishing this year, and it's been such a rollercoaster of an experience. But after watching some your videos and giving it a go myself, I think I've found what I was looking for!

    • @FishAnything

    • @FishAnything

      I would probably go for the Light model if I intended to toss the UF rig more. That rig is intended for bass and I would want a bit more backbone. It would probably do fine with it though.
      All in all, a solid rod!

    Curious about the reel seat/reel fit comment made. I bought a BP Ultralight and none of my reels fit (Pflueger, Daiwa, Shimano). Saw another fisherman with the same rod and he too said reels don't fit. Can you provide a little more context on the reel for fit this rod?

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  2 роки тому +1

      It fit the reel fine but the reel seat just felt a bit wonky. I am sure it is fine but I would be semi-concerned it may come loose while fighting a fish. It feels like they didn't invest into this portion of the rod as much as they did the blank. Would have liked for them to make it another $10 and make the butt slightly higher end.

      I will look into it. Honestly a slow action ultralight is not my style because I don't fish that way very much, but it could be good to compare. A slow action ultralight is likely intended for fishing trout with spinners. Don't see a lot of rods like that... Might be interesting to try.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  2 роки тому +1

      I have avoided reel reviews because I have a hard time truly judging reels on their performance. For the most part, spinning reels are spinning reels (but some brands stand out). I personally trust Daiwa & Shimano and opt for 1000 or 2000 size reels for ultralight fishing.
      The more you spend, the lighter and higher quality components you generally get. A $50 reel may last a lifetime, but it less likely than if you spend a bit more and get something with higher end parts.
      All in all, I will talk more about reel selection in the future but I don't think I have the expertise to do anything very comprehensive, as I don't fully understand all the engineering that sets reels apart. Hope that makes sense!
