If you want bigger panfish, you have to take those fish home and eat them. Overpopulation is a main reason why they stay small.

That's bologna! It takes 7 years to grow a trophy sunny. I fish waters that are not open to the public and get pounders. It is fishing pressure that makes small fish. They keep the big and put the small back to reproduce.

As a teen, a friend and I spent a few years culling a stunted pond full of small bluegill. We would catch hundreds of small ones a day and pitch them in the woods for the raccons. Although earth worms were a bait of choice we were literally at times catching them off bare hooks About five years later we were landing much larger ones, including some hybrids. We also noticed an increase in the bass population. Somehow as kids and from reading countless fishing magazines we had an intuition what needed to be done to turn that pond around. It took a few years but absolutely worked.

Love catching bluegill from a little pond near my house. Recently began using Spam as bait. Cut into small cubes and heat in the microwave for a minute to get rid of excess moisture so it stays on the hook. Also caught a couple of good sized catfish using this bait.

People inner tube down that river, but it don't bother the fishing! I have lost Shell Crackers so big they would straighten a good bream hook. If you go there, fish the deeper holes, set off to the side and pitch over in the deeper holes, darker green water! Use crickets and hold on!

I forgot my red worms and needed to catch some brim for catfish bait. And now I rarely ever buy live worms to catch brim as long as the sun's out cause that worked so well. When I was growing up my family grew crickets commercially and sold them over a large area. Our cricket buckets weren't the ones you buy at the bait shops, they were 5 gallon buckets with screen wire stapled over large holes cut in the sides. When we went fishing the way we found the big ones was to literally toss a handful of bugs on the water. If the big ones didn't start popping them pretty quickly we moved on to a different spot. I always had a rig ready with a hook and no weight. When we tossed the crickets in I'd toss my line in the bunch. Never failed to get me hooked up, that topwater action was a blast.

we got a saying in minnesota " use small bait catch small fry, the bigger the bait and hook, the bigger the catch....it's like rides at valley fair ' you must be this big to be on this ride'.." throw in a northern pike or muskenlunge and it will solve your small fry problem. also why are you wasting those big rods on pan fish for? the little snoopy poles and bait casters for $15-$20 is all you need for pan fish. heck i use my ice fishing stuff to catch them as cut baits. anything i don't use gets buried in the garden as fertlizer.

Buy the cheapest dogs ya can find cut em into chunks about as long as the dogs are thick Just before you head out the door stick em it the microwave just long enough to get the juices flowing an stick em on your hook in the outside and out the other outside skin of the dog then tip the point back in a little so the fish don’t feel it till it’s too late Trot lines limb lines cane pole yo-yo or fishin rod it don’t matter they’ll all work Good luck an Tight lines
