Te Kanawa et Cotrubas utilisant la même technique, leurs deux voix sont parfaitement à l'unisson .Duo magnifiquement interprété! Ajoutons le plaisir des yeux ,nous sommes comblés.
This cast including Cotrubas, Te Kanawa and Van Stade remains my fav. This performance unites some of the greatest singers in this repertoire. The intimate and small stage serves both the drama and music perfectly.
What a wonderful duet! What a genius Mozart! I love Ileana Cotrubas especially! Of course, Kiri Te Kanawa is just lovely, too! But what a sweet sound of Ileana! Bravo!
I must agree with Red in Shawshank Redemption when he said, "I don't know what those Italian ladies were singing about. I don't want to know. I'd like to think it is something so beautiful that it can't be expressed in words." I am quoting from memory, but I think you will agree that this aria is so beautifully performed by Te Kanawa and Cotrubas that it must describe something so beautiful that it makes the soul rejoice for only having heard it.
The way they just hang their sound out there is amazing, it mean it just floats! I have seen/heard some performers push that ending and it just comes out horrible, it works much better when the sound is put outside the mouth, that way it doesnt come out with a muffled or swallowed sound, these two do it almost perfectly with crisp clean notes! BEAUTIFUL!!
I especially love this version of one of Mozart's best duets ever. What is interesting about this version, is how much the two sopranos' voices sound alike. I have a recording of Mozart's C-Minor Mass, featuring the two of them (Te Kanawa and Cotrubas), singing the two lead sopranos' parts in it, and especially in the Kyrie Eleison, you really notice it. I love the effect. It's positively otherworldly... as though it might be the heavenly voices of the angels themselves.
Lassann . No matter how chained he was. A tear soaked melody plagued us all. Gave us all a brief glimps of something heavenly. It tore all of our hearts out, and gave them back, so they could feel. No one will ever know why the feeling came. But when those two Italian ladies sang-- it was sacred, it was love, it was something we never had, or ever will. We were left empty. This beauty is what we did not have. But now it is part of our heart. How could we have missed this ? It is Shawshank.
Speechless! Te Kanawa is so full of grace: 0:23 - 0:30 = amazing moment! Cotrubas is also stunning. I think that moment is the only moment when Te Kanawa is 'above' Cotrubas: that sound around 0:28 it's coming from another world.
Thay have SOOO wonderful voices. Kiri is beautiful and she is my dearest Countess. No one sings it like her. I sing this duet with my friend and I learn a lot from her performances . Dame Kiri is a Diva!!
1:53-1:58 is just amazing. Dame Te Kanawa is just amazing. She is my favourite Contessa hands down. She has a certain quality that just makes her perfect for this role. Just beautiful. I hope we find someone like her in my generation.
Dear anneyre: But... why ashamed? I'm a man of 58, and I can say you that I cry often hearing music... really the music is actually the only thing who made me cry (well, recently I cried too about the aircraft crash in my country). It's not a matter of sadness, but of beauty, of sensibility and, over all, because the music is the most intense and passionate art in the world.
I adore the part where both of the voices merge with what I call heavenly tones. 1.54 to 1.59. Really makes me believe that heaven is on earth. Simply superb
"Amadeus"=loved by God. And so, Psalm 92: 1 "It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: 2 To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night, 3 Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound."
for years i have enjoyed opera , and it is a delight that every now and again i come across something that is as sublime as it is is beautiful. look behond the music the poise and elegance that Te Kanawa has is absolutely divine
I am sometimes so depressed over the ugliness and atrocities that man is capable of. And, then, I hear this, and it gladdens my heart to know of the beauty that God has intended for man to achieve.
Exactly right :-) The greatest composer in the world, sung by the greatest singer (Kiri of course!) Ileana is quite amazing herself too! Together, it's indescribable
Beautifull voices, magnificent interpretation,a musical juwel. They are each gorgeous in their own way,and that is opera about.Sincretism.Cooperation of more than one factors,(orchestra, direction, costumes, light, music, great singers, beautifull voices all meet in order to create the final enshantment).Thank you all for this master piece .
This was meant to be replying to the gentleman from Romania. Both singers are wonderful. There are few good versions on yo of this song. All are wonderful.
Kiri has that special aura that the sopranos singing with her rise you the occasion too. You can see how much warmth there is between Ileana and Kiri. The same applies when Kiri sings with Flicka.
It's available from amazon(dot)com. It's a Glyndebourne production(1973) with John Pritchard conducting. Look in dvds under Le Nozze di Figaro-yesterday, when I checked, it was the 2nd dvd on the list.
this is the song of life...... thats what I would like to hear on my weddingday and my funeral..... (butm not planning the last one hopefully for another 40 years)
Honestly the best one on her in my opinion if is the Carol & Kathleen battle duet, no one talks about that but I like it the best, but of course this one is good to
I love the sadness in Dame Kiri's eyes at the very last phrase. Many don't realize the Beaumarchais play (source for the libretto by Da Ponte) actually quotes a popular song of the day, the reference for Sull'aria. That's why "Il capira"--"he'll understand".
"even though i had no idea what those two ladies were saying, it was the most beautiful thing I had ever heard." From Shawshank Redemption, when Timothy Robbins's character sneaks into the PA system and plays this over the whole prison's loudspeaker. great scene, great piece.
Te Kanawa et Cotrubas utilisant la même technique, leurs deux voix sont parfaitement à l'unisson .Duo magnifiquement interprété! Ajoutons le plaisir des yeux ,nous sommes comblés.

I love the pairing of these two marvelous sopranos; they sound so very much alike, so neither's singing overshadows the other's.
I am so proud of the Romanian sopranos, and Ileana Cotrubaș is one of the best!
I must agree with Red in Shawshank Redemption when he said, "I don't know what those Italian ladies were singing about. I don't want to know. Tout à fait
And now it's 2024 - none of the magic is lost from this stunning piece - It's a cruel world.
Hay miles de millones de personas que pasaran sus vidas sin a ver escuchado esto!la pena mas grande que puedo imaginar!
When two great voices make themselfves compatable with the most gentle inspiring music, it is truly life and faith sustaining. Thank you!!
This is the definitive performance of this. It is as close to perfect as it can get!

Smart ideea, Dufrense was cheated by his wife and in this song is basically the idea is to expose the infidelity
Quite possibly the most beautiful music I have ever heard.
Wonderful. This is pure muisic from heaven. Fantastic singers.
The best version of the duet! Let alone the best countess and the best Susanna! I'm very impressed! BRAVA!
stunning- no one can beat this!
I agree.....Kiri is simply Devine!

two beautiful voices that are completely in sinc, a doubly rare find.
Ileana Cotrubas and Kiri Te Kanawa! Heaven!
Amazing beautiful moment! Speechless - the moment when they sing together!
My two favorite sopranos, sounding preternaturally gorgeous. Thank you for sharing!
I agree this is one of the best. Kiri's voice is as always ravishing and the tempo is just about right for this aria.
Thay have SOOO wonderful voices. Kiri is beautiful and she is my dearest Countess. No one sings it like her. I sing this duet with my friend and I learn a lot from her performances .
Dame Kiri is a Diva!!
Waiting breathlessly for my DVD from Amazon to arrive. This is my favorite of all the versions I've seen or heard...
Both sounding amazing!
Esa mirada al final de Kiri Te Kanawa es ORO PURO!
Magnífica música interpretada con amor y sensibilidad
Simply stunning, this warms me as a person everytime I hear this! Music for the soul!
Bravo!
If only we could find somebody with just half of it, they would still be a extraordinary genius.
Damn, Kiri looks so cute, and both sings like angels!
Beautiful Lady indeed. Dame Keri 😊
hands down my favorite production of le nozze de figaro (kiri is my favorite too!)
1:53-1:58 is just amazing. Dame Te Kanawa is just amazing. She is my favourite Contessa hands down. She has a certain quality that just makes her perfect for this role. Just beautiful. I hope we find someone like her in my generation.
Dame Kiri sounded THIS good in 1997 @ the Met doing the Countess. She is incredible!

Menos de tres minutos impagables que se recuerdan toda una vida... ¡qué regalo, qué dos sopranos... QUE MUSICA, DIOS MIO!
I adore the part where both of the voices merge with what I call heavenly tones. 1.54 to 1.59. Really makes me believe that heaven is on earth. Simply superb

Te Kanawa is completely captivating.

Lassannn... You took the words right out of my mouth
i totaly agree!!
BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO!!!!
BELLE DONNE
Shawshank Redemption introduced me to this, I am taken by the vibrating harmony produced by the entangling of their two voices. Simplicy amazing.
Quite wonderful indeed. Sung a little fast but by two voices which are well matched and produce a delightful " frisson " upon hearing them.
This was meant to be replying to the gentleman from Romania. Both singers are wonderful. There are few good versions on yo of this song. All are wonderful.

First time I heard it was because of Shawshank Redemption ofcourse...then very cheeky I had it played during our wedding ceremony
Andy Dufresne: That's the beauty of music. They can't get that from you... Haven't you ever felt that way about music?
2:11 is perfect harmony!
Gorgeous *-*
when my wife will be giving birth, i shall play this song and she will feel no pain, hoping my baby will add some of his voice to the song.
It's available from amazon(dot)com. It's a Glyndebourne production(1973) with John Pritchard conducting. Look in dvds under Le Nozze di Figaro-yesterday, when I checked, it was the 2nd dvd on the list.

Sencillamente BELLO!
Beautiful music not matter whom sings this duet. I love it. I could listen it this song for hours
I have been listening to it for more than ours. It's stuck in my head right now. I suppose better Mozart then the Disneyland electrical Parade!
I thnk that's why they used it in The Shashank Rendemption. It sure made a impression on the prisoners. I love this duet. they are the best
Veja como Deus se manifesta nessas vozes tão divinas! Que beleza! Que encanto!
2020 still glorious - its cruel world.
No need to. Romania has plenty of great sopranos! Cotrubas is one. You can see how great she is in this.
Superlovely ^^
I think best duo this mozzart ^^
kiri is my idol
kiri my idol :)
Genau!
Honestly the best one on her in my opinion if is the Carol & Kathleen battle duet, no one talks about that but I like it the best, but of course this one is good to
Bellissima esecuzione, con un ritmo non eccessivamente lento. Great performance.
I love the sadness in Dame Kiri's eyes at the very last phrase.
