In this 'pro coaches amateur' video, join me for another coaching masterclass with Climbing Coach Be Baldwin-Fuller. Be and I headed to Parthian Southampton for a session on their competition wall, and I took the opportunity to pick Be's brains on best climbing technique and movement tips. If you're a total beginner, or you've been climbing for years, Be can help you apply her theories to climb more efficiently.

I love Be’s climbing. It’s so aesthetically pleasing.
That paralympic climber (Hannah #2) was simply inspiring! Climbing THAT with effectively ONE LEG?!?
Holy.... that is in incredible!!! Wild. Simply wild.
PS: I dare anyone trying to climb with only one leg. I certainly will.
Hannah is an absolute crusher that’s for sure!
@@hannahmorrisbouldering During the video I didn't notice that Hannah #2 uses only one leg while climbing... OMG, she is very strong!
.
Oh wow I didn't even realise! I was wondering where was the "para" part, she climbed so naturally, so amazingly well - rewatching the climbs now make it even more mind-blowing!
Wow! Didn't realize. I noticed that she climbs very strong but sometimes here beta seemed a little strange. I also wondered about her right foot touching the mat in the beginning but never connected the dots.
I've only had one coaching sesh with Be so far but she is just as nice and encouraging in person as on these vid's.
She really does make everything seem so easy and simple
Couldn't agree more! so so glad to hear you've been training with Be. Hope you've been loving the sessions :D
I think when I'm finally over my finger injuries I'm gonna have to try and book some sessions with her
@@benja_mint She's really helped me! Definitely do!!
When i booked in, she had a form section to disclose any injuries. Depending on the nature of your finger injuries, you might still be able to get a sesh with her now??
@@rees401666 maybe. Did you do the session remotely, and if remote did you only analyse videos together or did you do the zoom call from in a bouldering gym so you could try out some drills as part of the session?
@@benja_mint I had two in person sessions. She watched me climb some auto-belays and gave me a physical assessment. Based on those she gave me a workout plan and training plan (including technique drills). I can send her videos of me climbing for her to analyse too. The second sesh was a check-up on how that was going.
Be is prima ballerina of rock climbing. Everything looks so graceful and effortless!!!!!
Thank you! These tips helped me send my first ever V3s this week! I know that’s not super impressive but as a beginner it felt like a huge milestone 💪
It’s definitely impressive!
Progress is progress, and that's worth being proud about. Well done 👏
Yeah! Great ☺️
V3s are hard haha dont diminish what you accomplished
I was so confused when the other hannah started climbing (didn't read the whole caption), and then my jaw literally dropped when I noticed that she's only using one leg. What an icon!
Such a strong climber! 🤩
Yes, just awesome! And Bee is such an excellent coach. Great video!
Did exactly the same!
Love every time Be is on the channel. Feel like I always get something from watching these collabs!
Yay! Hope you found this one informative too. 🤩
@@hannahmorrisbouldering Incredibly! Seeing practical uses for the ideas on actual problems helps so much! Really appreciate the content!
I feel like now we need a video with Louis helping Be with coordination climbing since she says she is not great at it. Great video as always!
14:20 I knew Hannah was strong, but this climb really shows all that muscle underneath! You're amazing; I have such a long way to go haha... thanks for all the vids, learning so much from you, Be, Louis, everyone you've brought in.
Be is such a wonderful coach, explain everything crystal clear with the demo. Looking forward to more videos with Be coaching 😃 thank you Hannah for sharing all the sessions! 🙌🏻
You are very welcome! Really glad you’re loving the Be videos. 😅😊
This is a comment solely based on seeing you climbing through your (great!) youtube videos, but it seems like you're going through a big climbing transformation. Giving the impression that you're struggling "more" than previously with some blocs between V5 - V7, which I would understand noting that you have been training with a variety of monster climbers with different climbing styles.
I remember this plateau very well and some of the powerless feeling alongside but I have a feeling you'll very soon be breaking through the V6/ V7 plateau and you'll start mind blowing us even more!
Thank you for sharing your journey with those amazing climbers, love your videos 💪
Thank you Jay! I’ve been stuck with my climbing grade a little recently - a few injuries and a switch in time commitments meant I have been focussing much more on content and theory as opposed to actually climbing. Hoping to rebalance this over the winter for sure and hopefully start pushing myself again!
Great vid! Your collabs with Be and Louis are all so good. Very lucky to have such knowledgeable but also super enthusiastic and supportive coaches. Top effort on your climbs 👍
Thanks so much! Really glad you like the videos with Be and Louis - fantastic opportunities for us to learn from the best!
@@hannahmorrisbouldering I'm so happy to be able to see all this coaching session on video... it helps me a lot. I always stop the video and imagine how I would try it?
Greetings from Austria. Australia or New Zeeland would be too far for me 😉, especially in these uncertain times.
.
I’ll never understand how Be got those swole biceps without bending them while climbing
Ain’t that the real question
🤣 I love to campus the most, of course!
Movements from straight arms are the secret of the big biceps of gymnasts.
haha. Biceps are activated during any kind of pulling action and not just barbell Bicep curls 😂
Why is this so funny
Thanks! This class IS GOLD
Glad to hear it 🤗
It looks so easy when Be does it. Then you realize Hannah ist struggling and you are like - hmm, Hannah is stronger than me.
Also, I'd love to climb on this blue box problem, looks like great fun.
Love the long format with Be! I really enjoy watching your videos, Hannah, and I’m learning a lot thanks to you :)
(Also did I just witness two climbers actually warm up…?! No way!)
Always love your videos! Thanks for always putting out such great content! It’s so useful hearing Be explain why various skills are important and watching you apply them because it helps make climbing feel much more accessible!
Awesome video Hannah! Be is such a light, so fun to be a part of this!
Be is a wonderful coach. Thanks for watching
Love this. Start with technique and it makes things easier. Work smart not hard. Truly appreciate Be's coaching style but also her talking through her climbs as she's doing it so we know ow what to pay attention to.
Totally agree! She's a great coach and glad you think so too!
Yeeesss Hannah and Coach Be is always gold. Thank you both for sharing this with us 😭💯❤️
You are welcome! Thanks for watching 🤩
I wanna thank you again Hannah, for making a youtube-channel, reaching out to everyone with knowledge and perspectives.
I have subscribed to your channel, and I have made a note in my calendar to look more at your channel.
Videos can be paused and watched again, whenever and from everywhere. As a master student in business & economics I believe it would be better for the future if university lectures also is video based. Physical lectures doesn't fit equally good with peoples life; diseases/diagnosis, children, jobs etc. Not geographical limiting people from studying.
Thanks Hannah,
I'm so excited for this video! I just recently watched the other sessions! Yay!
Yay! Thank you! Hope you enjoy it :)
Finished the video, it was great! Great work. I gotta try and implement this way of climbing into my bag of tricks! You're inspiring me to get better!
Very instructive video, Hannah! Great to see the difference in Be and you where you need to search and figure it out while the pyramid positions come naturally to her.
Thanks for sharing your learning process with us!
Glad you enjoyed it Florian! Thanks very much for your comment 😊😊
Wow, crazy to see Hannah (the other one) climb that... mad respect for all the para-athlets, no matter if paralympic or never even getting "good" at it. It´s amazing!
As a climber who uses a wheelchair, thank you for showing us para climbers some love
Couldn't agree more!
It's 💯 💫 so impressive to be climbing with any kind of physical limitation! It's a super demanding sport, and even with a average functional body I often find it a bit scary too.
@@isaT it’s not average to be hanging 15 feet up on holds the size of a deck of playing cards. I know that feeling very well
Saw the blue artwork and clicked to watch. That boulder just looks like something else. Now lets see what I can learn
Such a futuristic looking boulder hey!
Awesome! I love the warm ups... reminds me of forms/Kata's in Martial Arts- Super helpful!
One of my favorite videos, Hannah! Wow, such an inspiration! Your content is packed with great tips and good vibes. Thanks for creating your channel! Cheers 🤙
You're so welcome! Thanks for commenting :)
Be is really a climbing genius!
She is! 💎
Thanks for such an informative video! Been climbing for 6-7 months so my technique could really use some work 😅. Off to the gym tomorrow, so I'll definitely need to tap into my pyramid self ⚠️
Really worth going back and finding the first three vids with Be, if you haven't already, they are definitely some of the clearest descriptions of technique fundamentals available.
Always enjoy how Be makes the climb look good.
Thanks for excellent video. I'm new to climbing, hooked on your videos, find them so helpful.
So good to hear. Hope you’re loving climbing so far! 😅
these are the best videos with real insane good tips. cant find them anywhere like this. she is such a good coach. you got my sub
Thank you! 😎😎
I have watched a couple of videos and as a beginner climber myself, these feel insanely useful! Had to subscribe 😃
Awesome, thank you!
"I'm not going UN-send it!" Was very funny haha
8:41 such a great insight! Thanks for sharing
Great to see all three of you trying hard, cool combo! I really like Be's straightforward explanations and also corrections 👍
Love these vids with Be!
Glad you like them. They’re always great fun to film 😀
Im new to bouldering and was blown away by the woman sending with 3 functioning limbs. What a badass, very inspiring.
Hope you’re loving bouldering so far. Hannah rocks! 🤩😎
@@hannahmorrisbouldering Madly in love with it, thank you for these helpful videos 😁 You’re all so good!
Love it! Going to try these techniques :)
So much inspiration! Thank you all!!!
Thanks for watching! 😍
So many good looking hand and foot jam in the gym!!!! Wish we had the holds so I could set some stuff like you all have.
Always good and new techniques to practice tomorrow
Hope they help! 😅
First! Hehe, I can already tell that I'm going to like this vid. Coach Be is the best!
Yay! Hope you do. 😎🤩
Great to watch and learn!
10/10 would watch again
i looooove such training videos! keep it up!
Glad you like them!
Great video. Really helpful lessons and demonstrations.
Glad you found it useful 🤗
Having been to Parthian Southampton recently, I don't think videos give a real sense of how difficult the boulders are, I had one look at the blue blocks and thought no f***ing way😂
The blue was a real challenge - Be flashing it was pretty impressive to watch! Hope you enjoyed your session at Parthian. 😎
Having also watched Louis on the blue blocks, I feel there must be some sort of jam somewhere in there, right? RIGHT?!?
Marmalade
There are two different ways to climb it, the one these guys are doing is around V4, there is another that cuts out most of the smaller blocks on the left and top which is V6 - You can jam but the blocks are super rough so would need gloves
just... whooouu I am at the minut 6:30 and I already lerned a lot! Great video and great teacher.. and also great Student :P
Jesus Christ her climbing is so damn effortless. When I climb I make it look super hard, so watching these videos really help me out. Thanks!!
Be always makes the problems she climbs so easy, and then I follow up the wall like a tree trunk haha :)
Amazing as always!
Thank you!
Great video, thank you for sharing.
Our pleasure!
The "no brain climbing" is such an issue for me. I don't FEEL scared of heights, but my brain certainly knows im 3m up and im getting gassed so suddenly I'm not thinking at all and im squeezing the bejeezus out of the bolds.
Its so hard to get new ideas when you keep getting stuck in that position
Hannah, just discovered your channel. You’re awesome, fantastic guests and fantastic videos!
Really glad you like it! 😎
So nice to see B back in the channel!! What a wonderful coach! It's so helpful for a beginner climber. Love it
Glad you like the Be videos and that they're valuable for your climbing. :)
These blue cube volumes look amazing. It was love on first sight xD
8:51 - look at Be's shoulders, shes so fuckin impressive man.
Hannah, for your posture I really recommend the cantienica method. It's a very good basis for all kinds of sports actually and it will make the jolly giraffe and engaging your glutes much easier 🙂
Thanks for the tip! :)
That blue box boulder looks interesting and fun! lots of options...
Cool vid and channel! What I do miss a bit sometimes are time markers and seperate chapters for the different excersises. That way it's easier to scroll through the content :)
Thanks for these tips ♥ I will try them in my warm-up :)
I think the audio is out of sync after the 20 minute mark. I don't know if it's just me though refreshing doesn't seem to fix the problem but great video still.
It should be sorted now! The inbuilt editor did me dirty when I tried to clip out a few seconds but we should be back in business! 🙃🙃🙃😣
Thanks! We think it was an error caused by the UA-cam editor tool but I think Hannah’s fixed it now!
Hope you enjoy watching.
I lov it !! I just subscribed.!!
Be is a machine, so impressive!
Beginner here and I’ve really tried to work on my technique using straight arms the last two time I’ve climbed and found while it’s using less pulling muscles and saving energy there, my fingers and forearms burn out faster. So I end up not being able to finish some climbers I could finish before with worse technique. Is this normal?
Hannah² is the content I didn't know I needed!
That blue cube problem looks insane
That was a cool video !
this straight arm drill makes sense on overhanging-terrain because you can twist and climb side-on. But what is the vertical-terrain variation if you want to climb front-on? I always try and drop my body to keep my arms straight but that pushes my hips away from the wall. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
You guys need to try the climbing card game Co-Bloc !! It’s like a summary of climbing exercises and techniques in a single game like Uno style 😊
29:17 was sooo relatable!
Hahah that’s how lots of my bouldering sessions go!
i love Be!
Do you need to flag every move like they do on the white?
Thanks a lot, a long video with lots of explanations is so useful!
@2:50, you just confirmed a thought I had been having as of late, when practicing my footwork. I fear I may be getting better, which means now I have to train more seriously.
Dammit…
Oh my God, you’re in Southampton as well. This is where I am based, but I climb at Boulder Shack
Can’t reccommend Be highly enough if you’re looking for coaching!
@@hannahmorrisbouldering she makes it look so easy and finesse.. And there’s me looking like a lion trying to scratch his way up a tree. I want to be able to look at a boulder and visualise the climb and know what techniques are required. Thank you for your quick response.
Wow,Be is in gear shape!
I remember watching Hannah and Be training at White Spider. Be has this knack of saying one thing that completely unlocks a crux in seconds. Watching Hannah crush stupidly hard lead routes was almost comedy. The disadvantage she has was completely negated by her superpowers, which, as a mere mortal, I think is unfair.
I can't seem to find the detailed warm-up in the description? Can anyone point it out to me? 😅😅
Hi Christian - I've added the warm up in the description box under 'Warm up here'. Hope you find it useful :)
Thank you 😊
I find it difficult to pick up on this technique, when be starts climbing the blocks it looks to me like she’s heavily using her arms too. They look slightly straighter at times. I think this is why I struggle to pick it up
Cool tips, thank you :)
There's the squarespace boulder again! :) (the blue box thingy ;) )
Haha that boulder has had a lot of love
@@hannahmorrisbouldering It looks really cool! Not easy, but cool.
Be! come to New York!
Angry bird at 29:44
Feet - Hips - Hands 💛
"bicep abuse" pretty much describes my climbing style
I'm new to climbing but isn't she supposed to use only single-color pieces or is she using the others around only to train the pyramid technique? Like she is using yellow, blue and black instead of only blue? Otherwise good job, and thanks for the videos I have learned a lot from them :)
What shoes are Be using here?
I've literally never wanted to warm up so much before. I wish my gym had more easy problems like that white.
great
haha 16:01 panicmode. :p
I feel very clever after watching the video, let's see how that reflects in the gym 🤣

It’s from 3rd Rock!
