Indiana Jones 5 - A Deliberate Failure from Disney?

- Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is Harrison Ford's final go around as the iconic Indiana Jones character. The movie is set to release in theatres very soon but there is something about Indiana Jones 5's marketing and release strategy that completely baffles me.
And I can't help but feel that the movie is being setup to fail by Disney and its CEO Bob Iger, who inside sources say are unhappy with the movie and are absolutely furious with the disastrous, CEO of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy. Who it seems has ruined yet another IP (and the last one left) from Lucasfilm.
Are my deductions as to Disney's disappointment and frustration with Indiana Jones 5 and the Dial of Destiny founded, or are they far fetched?

Having just seen the movie, here’s my thoughts. This isn’t as good as the original trilogy. However, it was never gonna be. It’s still a good movie in my opinion. Unlike Rise of Skywalker, this movie felt like it was made with passion from James Mangold and the other people who wrote it. Harrison Ford is genuinely fantastic. He normally is but here there was definitely a sense of extra effort from him. Mads Mikkelson and Boyd Holbrook are fantastic as the villains. They might honestly be the best villains since Belloq and Toht from Raiders.
As for Phoebe Waller Bridges character, there is a smugness to her character but that is the point. She’s an anti-hero and is supposed to grow by the end and she does. At no point does she feel like she’s there to make Indy look weaker. The two are always equal and save each other whenever they need help. Indy isn’t just always in danger and needs her to save him. She’s a lot better than you think. Not perfect, but not a generic strong female character to score points.
The action is good. Not the best in the series but it’s still fun as is the adventure. This also isn’t a set up for a spin-off series or anything like that. This is definitely an ending to the series. There is a lot of CGI but not nearly to the extent of the last film and it has more of an excuse seeing how Ford is 80.
Overall, I loved this movie. It’s easily the best Lucasfilm Disney movie since Force Awakens. I never felt I was watching a soulless product like with Rise of Skywalker. I was satisfied. I’m giving it an 8/10. I think it’s a fitting farewell to Indiana Jones.

Heck and it seems like Spielberg and Lucas are *FURIOUS* at her, and gave her the silent treatment during promotional presentation. I can't blame them, she stabbed them in the back in quite a public fashion.
for me. the franchise ended as a trilogy. (Raiders of the lost ark, Temple of Doom, Last Crusade) the trilogy ended perfectly. Indi, Sala, Marcus and Henry riding off into the sunset.

The movie premiered at Cannes back in May - that's why there is no review embargo. Studios can only enforce an emargo against critics who review the film at critic screenings or from review copies. Critics who attend a public screening like the one at Cannes can do whatever they want.
Marvel needs Elseworlds Black Label similar to DC with Joker and The Batman. Experimental standalone R rated films not part of shared universe. Be completely outside main universe, be set in their distinct continuities and focus on good stories! The Russo Brothers could start that and let other directors do similarly to what Todd Phillips, Matt Reeves, and James Magnold did for Joker 2019, The Batman 2022 and its planned shared universe, and Fox’s Logan that was even a separate timeline where X-Men were exaggerated to the public being like the traditional ones that from main timeline. Marvel needs to let movies be movies instead of the set up for the next thing after the next thing after the next thing! 🤦
Puss in Boots: The Lash Wish review will be epic! I’m excited for Eric to finish it and post it! It’s my second favorite film in the Shrek franchise. Nothing beats Shrek 2!

Something I had learned is that the people who attack and criticize those who talk about this stuff and call them out as sexist also know that the product is bad, so they don't support it, and then it dies. That's why Ghostbusters 2016 flopped, that's why Mulan 2020 flopped, that's why Ocean's 8 flopped, that's why She-Hulk flopped, that's why that Gotham Knights show flopped. If Indiana Jones flops, it's all on Kathleen Kennedy, who allowed terrible writing to dictate a movie.
Also, I had got attacked on Reddit for posting something like this, and was driven away by that crowd. This is the only safe haven to express this kind of criticism.

I feel bad for Kathleen but at the same time I'm excited at the idea of Disney making a grand reset and going back to just making good movies now that they've stopped getting away with making slop and getting billions of dollars.
How can you feel bad for someone with almost 40 years of industry experience and proven track record, deciding at the twilight of her career that her personal politics were more important than telling the stories she grew up loving? The only tragic thing here is that she inadvertently destroyed the very thing she claimed to love, in an effort to appease people that will never support Hollywood as an institution to begin with.
Kathleen is the epitome of weaponised incompetence- ironically a term her like have coined and used to belittle their mortal enemy - men.
Just as all white trans female to males do - they either die a martyr or live long enough to become the thing they hate - a white man.

Can I just say, as much as I dislike Kathleen Kennedy, I think she's being used as a scapegoat. Disney sees that the tides are turning and want to distance themselves from the woke movies as much as possible! Kathleen Kennedy could not have possibly been the extent of the issue like they are making her out to be! She got as powerful as she is because Disney allowed it.
Actually it is. She actively makes these decisions intentionally. Had it been Disneys fault it would be noticeable but Kennedy for a long time now has made these decisions willingly herself. No one is forcing her to do anything she didn't want to do. All these Lucas film projects that have been bombs are because of her own ego and stupidity. You can pretend she's not at fault all you want but the reality as well as evidence show she is the one at fault. Disney's fault in this case is allowing her to be this out of control.

I think it was all a clever plot to get people to see the movie. I think it has and will largely work. Once people have paid money to see it they won't care about the reviews. If they want change its a win-win into the bargain.

As a person who has seen Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny I agree with some of the arguments made by the critics, they’re true, however it’s not the worst in the series, it’s just a mediocre Indiana Jones movie which is a little bit disappointing as I wanted it to be amazing, but at least Raiders and Last Crusade exists!

I think you are right. But I don’t think you can have a film show at Cannes with an embargo. And they wanted it at Cannes as a farewell to Harrison Ford, which m the audience would love. I don’t doubt KK loves the idea of Cannes and rubbing shoulders with the fancy and beautiful. I think the higher ups let her hang herself by allowing her to do Cannes even though they thought it would be a failure. Maybe they even let her know that if it wasn’t the highest success she knew it would be, this was her last chance.

I'm glad I saw this before I took my dad to see this movie. We have a lot family stress and my aging father loved the 3 Indianas.. as a child I grew up with this amazing movies. I thought it would be a great father daughter movie to see.... I do NOT want to see Indiana as a frail old man being outshined by a butch woman... and I don't want to suffer my father with this drivel!!!
There are only 3 Indiana Jones films! 🤫 But KOTCS had its moments. But 3 TRULY CANON ones in my opinion!

Seen the movie last night, ans gotta say, its honesty not that bad. This is coming from someone who didn’t hate Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and I think its better then that one.
It has some aspects to dislike, but overall I think its a good finaly for Indiana Jones.

Sony’s R rated Kraven movie probably will do better at the box office than The Marvels! Just a prediction, but one that might be true. I have more faith in Sony Marvel than Disney Marvel.
I would like to note that the reason Bob Iger didn't fire Kathleen Kennedy sooner was entirely that Bob Iger is a businessman and like all businessmen the only thing that matters is making money and now that Kathleen Kennedy is no longer making money (and can't even get a project off the ground any more without losing creative talents which everyone in the world has already made fun of at this point). Also, no offense I think no matter how you feel about Hollywood's "Wokeness" (I am not here to debate with anyone on whether or not it exists I am just here to state facts) that Hollywood couldn't care less about whether or not their movies are or aren't seen as "woke" (again this has to do purely with public perception and what a bunch of people says and not any individual person says because of course I am not here to debate anyone and I am also not here to state my own political views or views on Hollywood/Disney as a whole or any individual movies) they just care about making money because of course they are a business and if they think a certain choice will make their movies make money they will do it and if they don't think is it going to make them make money they won't do it. Again I am not here to debate anyone what what matters to Hollywood is purely making money because of course there is no such thing as a company with values other than making money. Individual people can have values but a corporation as a whole cannot have any because a corporation is not a person it is an entity which cannot have values or views because it is not a living thing.

I think that is a closer representation as to what goes on behind the scenes than the actual Mickey Mouse that we see.
