So yeah, we as consumers/fans decide what we like and dislike. Disney may legally define what canon is, but the fandom actually decides what ultimately constitutes our own head canon. Similar to Middle Earth canon, The Rings of Power may be “Tolkien-ish” in name but it isn’t canon, even though Amazon owns the rights to the appendices. Disney owns the rights to all of Star Wars, but what they have delivered is so bad (in my opinion), that the fandom may decide it does not qualify as canon, legal entitlement be d#mned.

I don’t know how Lucas did it, but he understood how to release his movies by releasing 4 through 6 and 1 through threes years apart from one another. He understood how to make Star Wars feel special which Disney does not.
I don’t think it has anything to do with Lucas having some great pacing plan, it just took longer to make those types of movies back then and there were truly unique bc nothing like it existed at the time.
but lucas also has his flaws the OT turned out great because he had people controlling him but in the PT he had no limits so he went all out. don't let george lucas cook or you get the prequels. i mean the PT had some good ideas revenge of the sith was good but as movies they are not good with clunky dialogue and just kinda weird
I think it's pretty obvious how Lucas did it, he had a vision for his trilogies. He started with a general idea of the story he would tell across three movies and fleshed out the details as each one was made. Disney had no fucking clue what the whole story would be when they started making the Force Awakens. They were just hoping each successive writer could build on the work of the last and somehow make a cohesive trilogy. That was one of the stupidest fucking ideas they could have ever had, they should have made an outline for all three movies then had the individual writers fill in the details for each movie while following this outline. That's ultimately what makes the prequels better than the sequels, they may be rough but they had a cohesive story across all three movies
@@eduardoalcazar2600they did what Lucas did and that was too have no really story until the next one had to be made. It’s why you mixed facts like leia being 16 for two movies and then by the ep6 she’s now Luke’s twin . Or that the Jedi robes are just sand clothing for tatioonie. Things just fell into place and it works and I think they thought that could work for 7-9 but the catch was the og trilogy has no corporate meddling only Lucas wanting things to maximise toy sales😊
Yes they should’ve with the animation and pirates of the Caribbean, but look how far Marvel went from Iron Man to Endgame. And there are good one like X-Men 97, Deadpool and Wolverine, GOTG 3, Wandavision, Moon Knight and Werewolf by Night. The rest like the Marvels, She-Hulk, Agatha all along and Secret Invasion were 💩. There’s still hope for Marvel, and I’ve never been a Star Trek fan. But as for Star Wars, it’s dead in the water.
Just considering the sequels alone, Kathleen Kennedy has cost this studio (at least) *$1B* in lost profits.. and that doesn't even take into account all the terrible TV shows, the Solo movie (the biggest SW flop, so far), merchandising, the failed hotel, Galaxy's Edge, etc Her still being gainfully employed is one of the most baffling business decisions in the 21st century
AND like you say, that's just "considering the sequels alone." If we factor in another 2 Franchises under Lucasfilm - Willow and Indiana Jones that Kathy Kennedy has also completely destroyed.
IDK, I would say that in the Case of Indiana Jones, there wasn’t that much hype left in it. I just didn’t care for much with the end of Indy 4. Why? Because Indy was already old and the way it ended. I’m not even saying I’m disappointed if his son got killed off after this, I’m just saying Indiana Jones didn’t feel like it had anything substantial or new to offer at that point.

@@derekknowles5805 Well there were equally an amount of those fans that lost their absolute sh*t about the Prequels and bullied and harassed Lucas and those involved in the production for years. I remember those years very well. It led Lucas to lose his passion for Star Wars. Several of the actors involved like Jake Lloyd and Ahmed Best fell into deep depressions because of the harassment. I see that same type of behaviour amongst elements of the fandom today. The fandom has become or maybe always has been a cesspit.
I’m 48 years old when I was two years old the first movie I ever went to my parents took me to see the original Star Wars in 1977. I am too young to remember that so obviously I’ve seen it many times since then I remember when the Empire back came out, my dad took me eight times to see it because I loved it so much when I was a kid. And so on and so on. when Disney first got Star Wars, I was extremely excited about it being that I have been a lifelong fan. I liked the force awakens and I loved Rogue One. Then The last Jedi came out, I walked out of the theater about halfway through that’s when Star Wars died for me. Star Wars ended in 2005 with the revenge of the sith.
I’m curious how you felt after the prequel trilogy ended. I was born in 88, so my introduction to the original trilogy happened when the re-release in theaters happened in around 1998. By the time I watched the prequel trilogy, I’d watched so many great movies that I didn’t think those three movies were anything special. There were moments that shined brightly, but there was also a lot of disappointment. (Side note: I also love Rogue One.)
@@alexloyola6762 to be honest, I thought they were ok Being episode one and two. My favorite Star Wars movie of all time is revenge of the sith. which is Part of the prequel trilogy.
For me Revenge of sith is end of Star Wars. I literally watched every show and movie until Ashoka and decided that the only way I can keep loving star wars is if I limit star Wars to first 6 films.
SW is glorified fast food now. While stuff like Andor is chicken salad with dressing. A show that was made lucky. While everything else was lucky to be made. And that's all coming from a modern SW neutralist and apologist. Make that what you will.
Andor is bad Star Wars. It doesn't feel as a in-universe link to Star Wars. It's an ok-ish good sci-fi series, but it doesn't feel as a Star Wars at all. The only good Star Wars that came under Disney, movies/series/animations are: Rogue One/season 1 of Mandalorian/Rebels and last season of the Clone Wars, even if it was a changed animation, it still felt like Star Wars. The rest are not even good as sci-fi movies, series or animations, they are just bad.
As someone who grew up in the prequel era, I can safely say that the kids just don’t like starwars these days. The kids don’t talk about it, it’s just not a part of the culture it’s just another franchise now. Disney has turned the name of Star Wars into budget sci-fi, a lot of people palm the criticism off as nitpicking… but that’s what made it STAR WARS the details, rules, world building, aesthetic we’re all super specific and important to long time fans. The more and more you change established lore you start to distant yourself from the audience that cares the most. Starwars is being actively made for a casual audiences and that’s really really sad. Just imagine the kotor trailers with disneys unlimited budget and resources, that’s how badly they had fumbled the opportunity. They cancelled all their movies after making a trilogy without a plan and now they are just pumping out daytime tv to keep Disney + alive.
Nah, you're still giving it too much credit- it's high end fan fiction, stuff that belongs on Patreon or a free YT channel- I get what you're saying though, I'm just hyperbole-ing a bit :P
They should’ve called the Disney trilogy ‘Folks in Space’ 😂 Disney needs to do their own D grade sci fi and leave Star Wars out of it. The problem is they won’t make any money and they know it
When the force awakens first released I left the theatre disappointed and not excited for any upcoming projects, my friends told me I was a cynic. When the last Jedi came out they told me to give it time, when the rise of skywalker came they said they were making backstory in mando. When mando became the same story over every season (split from grogu, miss grogu, meet up with grogu) they told me to wait for Boba and Obi wan. Then they said the old republic era would kickstart it again, and then the acolyte released. I also loved halo forward unto dawn from when it released in episodes on UA-cam. What have all my friends told me recently? “Perhaps I judged you too harshly”
I can't believe they're even thinking about making a Rey movie. I guess there may be enough people out there that like the sequels but is it enough to support another "Rey can do anything" movie?
I doubt there are enough people who like the sequels. They would have to try to keep the budget to less than $150 mil to give it a chance at being profitable.
They appointed her the messiah. They had 9 films. They've filled in all the gaps around the main plot. Unless they do "Star Wars: The Sith: Pets" and have an animated show about force sensitive dachshunds, then they need probably need to propel the narrative forward and create a new plot. Then they can fill in the gaps around that for 15 years.
There is no way that there are still people who like the last Jedi. They def existed when it came out, but even the biggest fans of it that I know wound up coming around. It's total trash
The force awakens started it all of it was just a bad version of a new hope it destroyed the main characters Hollywood can't do anything new that's entertaining its reboots redos stuff that's copy of other movies any wonder its dieing directors can't do anything they are all told what to do and are all carry down by this woke crap
Another big issue with TLJ was that it whipped the media into a frenzy, with them going after the “toxic man-babies”, which typified the “blame the fans” movement. “Star Wars fans are so entitled! They are never happy! The complain about everything! No one hates Star Wars like Star Wars fans!” Fast forward to today, and what do they have to show for it? Toy sales down by over 60%, with pallets of them rotting for years at discount stores, news that the Disney Star Wars films only earned 1.2 Billion in profit at the box office (meaning Disney is still 2.8 Billion in the hole from a box office stance) from their $4 billion purchase of Lucasfilm 10 years later, no new Star Wars movies in nearly 5 years, $1 billion marketing push for The High Republic (which has gone nowhere), another billion into the Galactic Starcruiser Hotel (which closed in a year and a half), expensive live action series that get terrible reviews (and viewer ratings so poor that Disney doesn’t show them anymore), animated shows that are all but forgotten, and now three trailers for upcoming Star Wars projects are all massively downvoted. You have dozens of projects announced then abandoned, directors switched out and having most of their films reshot, and worse still the film starring the character nobody wants is being directed by a woman who has only done documentaries and was quoted saying “I enjoy making men uncomfortable”. Years from now Lucasfilm will be used in business schools as a cautionary tale of what happens when you alienate your customer base. It truly is a tragic fate: what was once seen as a pinnacle of modern entertainment, a proverbial golden goose, has been destroyed, choked to death, with only the memories of better days and stories to comfort us. It breaks my heart.
It's honestly depressing seeing star wars croak like this while it could be a treasure trove of essentally bottomless wealth in the right hands. But instead Kathleen Kennedy nuked hundreds of stories from orbit, only to bitch about not having books and comics to pull from.

The series don't bother me as much. But what they did to Luke on the sequel trilogy was awful. It was also disappointing that we lost Han to kylo ren only to have him still be a disappointing villain in the later films.
I made a terrible decision on May 4th, I rewatched the sequels, hoping there was some redeeming quality that I couldn't see. If anything, those films, especially Rise of Skywalker, just show how hollow the series is now, or at least one aspect of the series, the Disney aspect.
I would rather binge watch the last five Steven Seagal movies than rewatch any of the sequels. The only thing missing from ep. IX was a post credits scene with Mickey Mouse giving us both middle fingers.
I did something similar. I first rewatched the prequels in the hopes that age had redeemed them. It did. I found the prequels delightful. Flawed, but highly entertaining. Then I watched the sequel trilogy hoping for similar results. They are just plainly not good. And worse, they’re not entertaining or rewatchable. Just a literal waste of time.
@MrHam0117 The prequels, while not perfect, took bold chances and risks, usually at the cost of some of the older fans. The sequels chose to play it safe and predictable at the cost of the rest of the fan base.
Why did they keep on hiring people who didn't like or didn't know Star Wars? Seems like a really weird decision. At the very least they could have been like "If you want the job, LEARN."
Disney have done what they did because they wanted to destroy a bastion of popular culture. Is No Debate that Disney Buying Star Wars from Lucas was was how the Franchise was left in Darkness and because of the Sequel Trilogy the Damages are so Deeply Painful to Watch.
Disney had a once in a generational opportunity to create their own “Lord of the Rings” trilogy in the sense of creating one cohesive story and filming all at once. This could have been the one trilogy to surpass LOTR in regards to cinematography, filmmaking, passion and respect for existing lore, and THE AUDIENCE WAS ALREADY THERE. They acquired Lucasfilm in 2012 and still could have released the movies in 2017, 18, and 19 or something. Instead, they opted for the quick cash, knowing people would see them no matter what, and put little to no effort in them.
Yup. Not having even a crude idea of the plot for the whole trilogy mapped out before filming, last minute decisions such as Palpatine somehow returning and on top of that a couple of directors undermining each others work between films... No wonder the end result is a flaming, stinking piece of hangover poodoo to put it mildly.
I have to disagree that Last Jedi was the pivot point. The Force Awakens had already sent SW into the toilet. It had some good stuff (I liked new protagonists), sure, but mostly it jumbled the established lore, soaked the screen with boring retreads of stuff we’d already seen over and over, and robbed us of the one thing we wanted most - a great story about the original characters.
Every single step, every single one that you've described is exactly how I felt as time went on with this franchise. You even highlighted the bright spots that gave a new hope (pun most-definitely intended); and by that, I mean Rogue One and Andor. It's cathartic to hear someone break down this downfall so perfectly.
Tell me why andor was so good again? Was it the ak47? Was it coco puffs boy? Was it random ahh people dancing on a mountain? Was it the stupid monologues? Was it a mid jaikbreak sequence that I've seen a million times elsewhere? Was it the "scary headphones" and trash acting? Was it throwing in references to Rebels that made no sense? Was it the AMAZING romance sequences we got between various types of couples? Including a stalker and an ISB agent who doesn't know how to act? Or was it the 2 seconds we saw of the death star? No need for BOBF, Kenobi or Ahsoka. Move on, guys. This is not SW. It hasn't been for a long time, and it never will. Why keep up with it then? The real SW will always be there.
Well said - I will go one step further and add I have gone from being someone who went to the movies every week on new release night for over a decade in the 90s to someone who may go once a year now- due to the garbage that Hollywood produces these days. Lucky we still have Denis Villeneuve - Dune 2 was a masterpiece (can’t wait for Rendevous with Rama)
I do think that all of the problems of Disneys SW started back in 2015 with the Force Awakens: its a souless and uninteresting movie. Its the definition of “Disney doesnt make Star Wars films, they make movies about Star Wars”. Just do a back track, and you will see how much damage this film made to the franchise.
THANK you! Someone finally said it! It goes to show how much attention SW fans actually pay. TFA introduced the coward Luke character running away because Ben turned to the dark side, with Han clearly telling that to Rey on the Falcon, but no one in theaters paid attention. JJ put too many damn mystery boxes into the movie also for any director after him to make sense of, so Rian just did whatever. Plus, JJ was executive producer of TLJ, so he definitely had a hand in controlling what Rian could and could not do. SW fans just need to start paying attention to the dialogue instead of only focusing on the pew pew, kaboom!, and they'll see that JJ played them all these years.

I have long maintained the theory that the reason George Lucas sold Star wars to Disney, and double downed recently by showing his support for the current administration, is that he knew they would make a pig's breakfast out of it, and everyone would get off his back about how bad the prequels were.
My impression is that Star Wars just isn't made for people like me anymore. It's not the inclusion of cameos that is making the new stuff bad, it's the RELIANCE on those cameos to get people to watch. And this isn't just a star wars issue, but one with Marvel as well and it shows that it is in fact a Disney problem.
Andor: a character with no real importance and only seen in one movie and wasn’t even the star, in a series that no one asked for, became the best series in the whole Disney EU. That’s f-ed up lol it’s also, Palpatine ironic. Lol
So I just got finiahed watching the orginal trilogy for May the 4th. And I've begun to discover why we love it so much. It's not just the lightsabers, the space battles, heck not even the effects. It's the awe and wonder. Listening to Yoda talk about the Force to Luke in Empire felt like a teacher giving a life changing lesson to his student. And the dialogue didn’t feel cheap, it felt authentic. Like this character really believed in the power of the Force and the effect it had on the Galaxy and the world. That's what Star Wars today is missing that awe that wonder. We got invested in Star Wars because it felt like we were in a whole new world. But now, it just feels like kids playing Star Wars real life. Where Lightsabers are just plastic sticks and our spaceships are just your Dad's old pickup truck with cardboard wings duct taped to it. Disney made Star Wars feel like exactly what it is. Fake, unreal and for children. There's no awe and wonder there, they try their darn hardest to remind you that you can't escape real life. Instead of trying to make a fake world feel like real life. George Lucas always had his head in the clouds, constantly thinking of new ideas for his future Star Wars movie. But Disney, their head isn't in the clouds It's in their a$$.
"Half of Star Wars fans thought The Last Jedi was a masterpiece" Really? Barely half would have thought The Force Awakens was a masterpiece. TFA works explicitly because its the first film. You are allowed to have unanswered questions and even plot issues are often written as such. However, that only pushes that judgement onto the next installment. We saw how that worked out.
They should have filmed their crap with another name, but no, they wanted to insult original fans and call them racists, mysoginists, sexists etc., for not liking stories that have nothing to do with star wars and the real conception of the Force
Not sure why folks are still crying about Star Wars....over and over and over..... Star Wars died on October 30, 2012. On that day, Lucas sold it to Disney. The most loyal harden fan base, who once slept in their cars waiting for the premier of the first Star Wars movie, without phones, DVDs or downloads were the GenXers, and due to their toughness and inability to settle for anything less abandoned it. So, what was left? Owners, producers, directors, actors who didn't sleep in their cars or camped outside the theatres to see the greatest movie of their lifetime. These "non-Star Wars" people were intellectually weaker, had no artistic grit, didn't read Star Wars film history, and felt that making a scene 10x larger without substance will move a crowd that viewed the world much like themselves....which was (is) unlike the original creators and fans.
I’ve never hated Star Wars as much as I do now. They are doing nothing with the brand. They are so out of touch and stubborn they genuinely think that they can outlive the old fans but the thing is you gotta cultivate a new fan base to replace the old and they can’t even do that.
The path was laid out with TFA. I am so tired of people constantly defending this dogshit movie and putting it all on TLJ. People are also rewriting history about how unanimously well received TFA was. Maybe in NA because some people watched it several times without much thoughts, but in the rest of the world a lot of people were already really critical of it. I remember a fair number of people leaving the movie theater in the middle of TFA.
All I want is either a Star Wars show or a movie, “Shadows of the Empire.” Even based on the N64 game and should make Dash Rendar a cool-driven character alongside Andor. That could happen, but they didn't want that. If not, then I would make this series instead of what Disney can do. It could be a fun and amazing fan-favorite Star Wars entertainment.
The Force Awakens also had serious problems. Though they were less obvious. I remember leaving the movie theater with an odd feeling thinking: “this feels like a 0% creativity corporate imitation of what Star Wars used to be”
I don’t want to watch a Star Wars that subverts expectations. I don’t want a show that favors moving away from George’s vision. His vision has lasted four decades and is the reason it lasted that long. I don’t need a tie in to the prequels. Disney has done nothing to heal their fan base, to bring them back together. Instead they’ve insulted them repeatedly for any criticism. I was like you. Kenobi was the nail and Ahsoka drove it in. Acolyte confirmed my decision. I’m out on Disney Star Wars.
🙄No they didn’t. Rebels, Bad Batch, Clone Wars Season 7, Andor, Mando S1 & S2, and Rogue One. All of these projects are pretty good to great. Star Wars would have died if Disney didn’t save Lucasfilms.

The Force Awakens was the start of my exit from SW (it was a copy of SW IV). The Last Jedi was my exit and I never looked back. Rogue One is the only decent SW movie Disney has made IMO.
Besides, it's destroyed for cheap politics; we all grow up. Man, the alien designs in Star Wars look so childish and like bad Halloween costumes. Aren't Ahsoka's tails so goofy?
I will never understand the hype for J J Abrams when The Force Awakens came out. Did the entire world collectively forget the train wreck that was Lost?
I thought LOST was a good show with plenty of interesting mysteries until it got really weird with time travel and ended with no payoff. I still remember the LOST lottery numbers to this day. I think what Disney did with LucusArts was more telling of the brand. In 2013 two years before TFA, Electronic Arts (EA) signed a 10-year deal exclusive rights deal that made sure that we would be way less likely to get good Star Wars games ever again.
While the sequels are objectively terrible, I have to say that the show Andor is the best Star Wars product since the original trilogy, with the Knight of the Old Republic as possible exception.
I will always love Star Wars and I refuse to allow it to be ruined for me. The best Star Wars content right now is the animation. Clone Wars, Rebels, The Bad Batch, and Tales of the Jedi are great! Tales of the Empire was ok.
Even though I was frustrated leading up to it, Obi-Wan was my breaking point and I haven’t looked back since. Interesting video and I hope it gets better for anyone still watching.
Where have aliens gone in Star Wars? It's all humans, aliens have become non-speaking characters, in favour of having a human cast that's as diverse as possible.
I remember right as soon as EA Star Wars Battlefront 2 started getting really good they ended all development out of nowhere, we can’t have anything nice with this franchise
1. Should not have killed Han 2. Should not have changed Luke so much 3. Should not have had Leia in a coma for most of TLJ 4. Ben Solo should not have been a Villian 5. It should have been Rey Solo 6. No Reylo
It's only dead for you if you consume Disney's products, there's a bunch of videogames, books, comics and media you can consume that are before 2014, you know?
I still love Star Wars but not because of Disney. But because of Dave Filoni. Many of the Star Wars projects he personally took part in never failed to make me feel like I was in a universe were George Lucas never sold to Disney.
To this day I still don’t understand why Disney didn’t just use the legacy books to base the new sequels movies & TV shows on. There were so many amazing stories.
I remember being ecstatic when Disney bought Star Wars. I thought with George Lucas being retired , So was Star War. I remember saying “any Star Wars is good Star Wars”. Now I flat refuse to watch any new Star Wars. But it makes me thankful too.. at least we still have the old stuff..
I was watching a documentary about the extras who were in the original Star Wars movie. He walks on to the set that is the Hanger on Yavin IV. He said since it was a space movie he was expecting a nice clean environment with pretty white space ships like in 2001. He said the set was dirty, the equipment and space ships looked beat up, broken and had battle damage. The uniforms of the crew were worn out and dirty. That is when is thought "This is not a space movie it is a war movie and someone knows what they are doing." Somewhere Star Wars forgot that it was about a war. Rogue One and Empire got this because in the end the good guys lost, in Empire the Rebellion gets the snot kicked out of it for the entire movie. Luke loses his hand, Han is tortured and put in carbonite. The Rebellion is blasted off of Hoth. It was the first sequel where the heroes lose, which is why it is great. Disney tried to turn Star Wars into some sort of social justice statement.
Disney fooled us into thinking Finn was going to be the lead character-s Stormtrooper who becomes a Jedi. The commercials had Finn being the first character to be revealed. And then the bait and switch. Finn becomes the Star Wars Simp for Rey.
Andor felt like a love letter to Lucas's work, and his inspirations, so I think that's why it did so well.Based on the highlights of the new content. it looks good, but there's a lot of improvement needed...
They can't ruin what came before them, but Disney killed any new Star Wars when they didn't follow the story Lucas gave them for the sequels. Whatever that script was, it was the real story and we didn't get it.
I was late to the party as well. When i watched the the last Jedi I was on the fence, then i saw the rise of skywalker i was like “wtf is this crap??” Now I have zero faith in Disney Star Wars. I expect it to suck.
What's even more frustrating is when reading about the decisions made behind the scenes as well as the scrapped ideas and scripts that were somehow so much better initially before the final product they decided on.
what really sucks is how disney pushed back against the dissatisfied fandom to the breaking point... the point that even the general audience is apathetic and enthusiasm is in the sub-levels of energy. now that public stock on WDC has plummeted to near-worthlessness, they NOW decide to pivot, and the change in tone feels disingenuous. great essay, btw, it pretty much sums up how i believe most of the fans feel...
I get where you're coming from but Disney stock is nowhere near worthless. It was $98.62 a share today. That's down almost 50% over the last few years sure, but not anywhere near "worthless"
It's absolutely insane that they didn't have a plan for the sequels. Anyone in their right mind would fire everyone who approved it to be made that way. Billions of dollars and these people just wing it. Incredible mix of arrogance and idiocy

Solo and Andor *are* really good though!
He said they didn’t have the technology for VFX for the clone wars at the time ..
I said Disney would kill marvel and Star Wars years ago and I was right They should've stuck with kids animation. Now even their kids movies suck
Good joke
Just considering the sequels alone, Kathleen Kennedy has cost this studio (at least) *$1B* in lost profits.. and that doesn't even take into account all the terrible TV shows, the Solo movie (the biggest SW flop, so far), merchandising, the failed hotel, Galaxy's Edge, etc
Her still being gainfully employed is one of the most baffling business decisions in the 21st century

And so on and so on. when Disney first got Star Wars, I was extremely excited about it being that I have been a lifelong fan. I liked the force awakens and I loved Rogue One.

I can't wait to see how much they lose on a Rey movie and the photos of mostly empty cinemas that will be denied.
The movies with Rey didn’t flop like Solo, so they took it as an approval for more movies with her.
The movie will be about her doing everything Luke Skywalker should have done..
There is no way that there are still people who like the last Jedi. They def existed when it came out, but even the biggest fans of it that I know wound up coming around. It's total trash
And that’s crazy considering it’s only like half as bad as rise of skywalker
The force awakens started it all of it was just a bad version of a new hope it destroyed the main characters Hollywood can't do anything new that's entertaining its reboots redos stuff that's copy of other movies any wonder its dieing directors can't do anything they are all told what to do and are all carry down by this woke crap
Another big issue with TLJ was that it whipped the media into a frenzy, with them going after the “toxic man-babies”, which typified the “blame the fans” movement. “Star Wars fans are so entitled! They are never happy! The complain about everything! No one hates Star Wars like Star Wars fans!”
Fast forward to today, and what do they have to show for it?
You could do stories from all over the galexy and have them be disconnected from the main line.

@Infamous1892 I still read the so-called "Legends" work. Can't believe Disney made all of that hardwork non-canon and replaced it with their garbage.
I would rather binge watch the last five Steven Seagal movies than rewatch any of the sequels. The only thing missing from ep. IX was a post credits scene with Mickey Mouse giving us both middle fingers.

They should learn from lord of the rings! Yes they make stuff etc but don’t chern it out like once a month’s
And now this Lord of the Rings level trilogy is Dune (which Star Wars is heavily influenced by). Kinda fitting really

I find it increasingly ironic that the big hero of “Disney Star Wars” is really just a Palpatine that calls herself a Skywalker.
I've been a SW fan for my whole live, and realizing that one is not obliged to watch every single SW thing that the mouse puts out has given me a lot of mental freedom, as well as the time to watch many actually good tv shows and movies such as hot d or succession.
I don’t want a Rey movie, I want a Ray Park movie
I agree you had a whole f*ing universe from the old republic to the legacy era to work with and YOU disney thought it would be a great Idea to reinvent the wheel for the post endor era and look at what you done that's one broke janky ass wheel that doesn't even move
I hate it when a UA-camr starts by saying "if you like this "x" thing that I'm criticizing that's perfectly okay". Like, no it's not. If you like the modern disney starwars garbage fire and give them your money make no mistake; *you are the problem and it is NOT okay.*
Star Wars had so much content in the expanded universe of novels and games. What a waste!
I liked Bounty Hunter and Jedi Academy at least I didn’t have to be Luke in those games.
yep old republic era dark times/imperial era/great jedi purge era EU stuff in prequel trilogy like clone wars mulitmedia project EU stuff in Original trilogy EU stuff beyond of Original trilogy aka post return of the jedi legacy era after that this is where Expanded universe really ended and always to be Star Wars to me
George Lucas never considered the EU/Legends as canon.
@@BlakeHardeman He literally went out of his way to put EU/Legends into the Special Editions of the OT, which was totally unnecessary. He literally treated it more canon than Star Trek ever did. He didn’t have to put the Outrider, Shadows of the Empire CGI characters, into it but he did. You’ve already lost this one.
But Kathleen Kennedy said there was no content ,No comics, No novels. Nothing
I have long maintained the theory that the reason George Lucas sold Star wars to Disney, and double downed recently by showing his support for the current administration, is that he knew they would make a pig's breakfast out of it, and everyone would get off his back about how bad the prequels were.
good ... goood let the hate flow through you
Give in to the dark side
My impression is that Star Wars just isn't made for people like me anymore. I too was a die hard who grew up with it and was obsessed with it, but Disney seemingly just wants to reach a different audience. If that's what they want, I shouldn't be expected to be a round peg trying to fit into a square hole.
The fact that I’ve switched to being more excited for dune then Star Wars means a lot to me.
It means you've grown up
@@Mopark25No
Once messiah comes out I can definitely say the first dune trilogy is better than Star Wars OT
@@Notfakeultra what a joke.

The rerelease of Phantom Menace out grossed most of the new releases last weekend. Says it all.
Just went to watch the Phantom Menace in theatre’s and my god, I forgot how exciting it used to be to go see Star Wars in theatre’s. Can’t wait to see Attack of the clones in the future.
i'll never forget back in 1999 when the Lucasfilm logo appeared on the screen and the music kicked in at the start of the phantom menace. that was an amazing cinema moment. the crowd went absolutely crazy wild. Good times!
Too bad the prequels were also trash. Nowhere near as bad as Disney, but still terrible.
@@arubial1229 To be honest i loved the prequels. Really enjoyed Phantom Menace (didn't like Jar Jar) not a fan of Attack of the Clones, but the last half hour - 40mins really picked it up for me and RotS was very enjoyable (always wanted to see Sidious wield a lightsaber) with an outstanding book that came out about a week before the movie release. As good as the original trilogy; no way. But good in many ways. Disney SW's though... Utter tripe
@@Avian-24 people are allowed to like bad things. Hell, the Cleveland Browns are pathetic but they still have fans lol
@@arubial1229 I'm guessing you're a fan of the originals at least. Genuinely asking, one fan to another, what was it that you didn't like about the prequels? No judgement. The acting in front of green screens; the mostly poor actors; the story? I know it wasn't that you don't like sand either
Andor made just one tie fighter look and feel dangerous
It's not the inclusion of cameos that is making the new stuff bad, it's the RELIANCE on those cameos to get people to watch. And this isn't just a star wars issue, but one with Marvel as well and it shows that it is in fact a Disney problem.
Let’s not forget how they keep blaming the fans for being toxic or whatever instead of taking responsibility for their failures.
They wouldn't be able to blame the fans being toxic if the fans weren't absolutely toxic as fuck.
Andor: a character with no real importance and only seen in one movie and wasn’t even the star, in a series that no one asked for, became the best series in the whole Disney EU. That’s f-ed up lol it’s also, Palpatine ironic. Lol
It started going wrong with Force Awakens because that movies was just A New Hope a second time.
The OT, especially a new hope, is the reason I'm a filmmaker today. I a heartbroken I can no longer witness this...franchise.
Didn’t destroy it for me … lol after watching episode 7 I stopped watching all Star Wars cuz I had a feeling it was going sideways quick
Do you remember Fin placing his hand on Reys head when climbing up - like in cartoons? If he really put weight into his hand he would have seriously injured her neck...
He's right, at the time people literally fought others who said the movie was bad
I must offer up these masterpiece believers to darth nihilus as a apatisizer if he dose not get sick
Disney has broken Star Wars so beyond repair that I honestly feel depressed just thinking about Star Wars.
We all need message Disney and tell them to retcon all their shows and woke movies. Best way to do it is not watching anything they make anymore.
@@raydiaz2772 My father is an old Star Wars fan, and has seen the Acolyte to give Disney another chance. But thank god he has been disappointed.

You people are so dramatic 😂
The original 6 movies will never go away. I don’t care what Disney does I don’t have to watch anything they make
Maybe the Disney grand plan is giving money back to people by having them save money.

Budget, time crunch, lack of passion and talent and the volume stage
*cough* andor, bad batch, clone wars season 7, ahsoka, visions *cough*
@@PanCakeFace I’m talking about the live action. Clone wars is a cartoon so they’re not as limited. Andor is the only one that looks good. Mando still has a lot of the same issues

@@PanCakeFacethey look terrible my guy. It looks like a nasty fan film. It’s just disgusting and disrespectful.
I'm with u a long time ago
Its the higher ups are blinded by money... dave filoni is single handingly keeping the franchise alive
Disney really destroyed star wars.
Lucas did.
EXCELLENT WORK. MOVIE OVERLOAD DISNEY'S STAR 🌟 WARS GARBAGE
🙄No they didn’t. Rebels, Bad Batch, Clone Wars Season 7, Andor, Mando S1 & S2, and Rogue One. All of these projects are pretty good to great. Star Wars would have died if Disney didn’t save Lucasfilms.
@@dominator1914Rogue one is pathetically overrated. What's good about it? Characters have no soul. It has some cool looking scenes and yeah Darth Vader looks scary. That's literally it. That's why it gets praise. Give me episode 1 over that any day. Lucas is Star Wars and his characters and the politics around them.
@@AlexLightGivershut up
The Force Awakens was the start of my exit from SW (it was a copy of SW IV).
No they aren't, the ugly sluggish actress playing ahsoka is the unbelievable part.
Andor S2 will hopefully be just as good or better that S1, so that's hopefully something to look forward to with some hope
Andor was shite. It had two good episodes.
I disagree rebels is okay bad batch is mediocre tales of the jedi is average and tales of the empire good but disappointing
Your prediction on The Acolyte came true. Hot garbage.
"The power of one! The power of two! The power of maaaaannnnnnyyyy" 😂 it's fucking crap
1. Should not have killed Han
2. Should not have changed Luke so much
3. Should not have had Leia in a coma for most of TLJ
4. Ben Solo should not have been a Villian
5. It should have been Rey Solo
6. No Reylo
It's only dead for you if you consume Disney's products, there's a bunch of videogames, books, comics and media you can consume that are before 2014, you know?
The reason why clowns wear makeup is so that we don't confuse them with the REAL CLOWNS that don't. 😊
I still love Star Wars but not because of Disney. But because of Dave Filoni. Many of the Star Wars projects he personally took part in never failed to make me feel like I was in a universe were George Lucas never sold to Disney.
Star Wars has become nothing but a platform to raise Disney's DEI score.
Finn was always insinuated to be Force sensitive since Episode 7. It's just that all the other movies after that F'd it up.
Disney fooled us into thinking Finn was going to be the lead character-s Stormtrooper who becomes a Jedi. The commercials had Finn being the first character to be revealed. And then the bait and switch. Finn becomes the Star Wars Simp for Rey.
You forgot Solo. Star Wars was deadly wounded for me with Last Jedi, but died with Solo. Sad that a fantastic universe is dead. 😥
I can't believe they fked up Boba Fett. He was the favorite Star Wars character for a lot of people
Andor felt like a love letter to Lucas's work, and his inspirations, so I think that's why it did so well.Based on the highlights of the new content. it looks good, but there's a lot of improvement needed...
They can't ruin what came before them, but Disney killed any new Star Wars when they didn't follow the story Lucas gave them for the sequels. Whatever that script was, it was the real story and we didn't get it.
You forgot to mention that after the Last Jedi, fans showed their hate to Kennedy and her production company by boycotting Solo.
Wouldn't be shocked if Kennedy went "see! The fans don't want a male lead!" And that's when she doubled down
I was late to the party as well. When i watched the the last Jedi I was on the fence, then i saw the rise of skywalker i was like “wtf is this crap??” Now I have zero faith in Disney Star Wars. I expect it to suck.
Me I have 0 f**ks to give to disney period even before star wars was "acquired" by them
What's even more frustrating is when reading about the decisions made behind the scenes as well as the scrapped ideas and scripts that were somehow so much better initially before the final product they decided on.
what really sucks is how disney pushed back against the dissatisfied fandom to the breaking point... the point that even the general audience is apathetic and enthusiasm is in the sub-levels of energy. now that public stock on WDC has plummeted to near-worthlessness, they NOW decide to pivot, and the change in tone feels disingenuous. great essay, btw, it pretty much sums up how i believe most of the fans feel...
I get where you're coming from but Disney stock is nowhere near worthless. It was $98.62 a share today. That's down almost 50% over the last few years sure, but not anywhere near "worthless"
I Have Been Watching Star Wars Since 1978. Not Interested in Acolyte
