What’s with so many self-insert characters for women these days? This is the type of shit that wouldn’t be excusable as writing after elementary school.
Imagine if the film was about Indy and Marion joining Mutt on his own adventure? They'd travel to China in the middle of the Cold War, assisting a contact who turns out to be a grown-up Short Round.
@timesnewlogan2032 exactly if they'd have paid attention to the game Homefront they could have gotten it to at least make more sense lol. The funny thing was it was supposed to be China but uhm yeah you could imagine how the CCP felt and no self depreciating production company would let that happen.
I'm impressed with Kennedy's ability for the Indiana Jones series. It took a few years for her to destroy Star Wars, but it only took one movie to fully bury the Indiana Jones series.
It's really not all that impressive actually, when Last Jedi come out, people still have hope that Lucasfilm could make the next movie better But after many failure, people just don't trust Lucasfilm anymore. Indiana 5 got released by the time Lucasfilm at their worst, so people are already have many doubt about it even before it come out
Remember that South Park episode where George Lucas and Stephen Spielberg raped Indiana Jones after the premiere of Crystal Skull? Now replaced both of them with Disney and Kathleen Kennedy for this movie.

One of the reasons I absolutely love Top Gun: Maverick is that they didn't make Pete a washed up, depressed husk of a man. They made everything he used to be, but seasoned from experience.. ya know, like a real person.
@@kittyhawk9707 completely relevant. I'm British-Italian, and on both sides of my family (from York in the British side and from the South in the Italian side), I have had grandparents and uncles who lived until they were 100 years old. All of these people, until their last day, were incredibly proud individuals, always full of energy. They were never sad, depressed, or anything like that Indiana Jones character. Beyond my family, I know thousands of elders who have much more energy than me, a bloody millennial who finds it hard to get up from their chair. They were shaped by the Second World War, and they never lost their characteristic pride and energetic lifestyle when facing life. So this notion of old, depressed people like Indiana Jones or Luke Skywalker doesn't hold up at all. Maybe a better script would be an older character who demonstrates much more courage and resilience than a bunch of kids who can only play with their smartphones, myself included. And just because the authors are Americans doesn't mean they should have the idea of "depressed old people," because many of the old Americans I've met are just as hardcore as the European ones. 💀☠💀☠💀
I've also seen old people who were full of vitality and were very impressive, it's so heartwarming. And then a tragedy befalls them and they change completely. That happens all the time too. Not everyone is happy-go-lucky. Depression is okay and real.
@@Dilmahkana I believe that elder depression is influenced by many factors. One common factor is when they feel excluded from society and forgotten by their family and those around them, or when they are treated poorly as if they have been discarded after a lifetime of use. However, if an elderly person remains active by engaging in activities such as playing chess, reading, creating art or small crafts, or taking care of their home, they can maintain their well-being until their last day of life. Perhaps what you're referring to is the fatigue that elderly individuals often experience before passing away, rather than depression. It's been observed that people tend to become sad, tired, and disinterested in interacting with the world as they approach the end of their lives. However, this fatigue is primarily due to a worn-out body, and it differs significantly from the feeling of true depression, where a person feels disconnected from the world, utterly useless, and abandoned by society.
So true!! I interview patients into their 90’s and they truly inspire me with their optimism, enthusiasm and gusto for life! It’s really so awesome and cool to think, many of them lived happy lives and still enjoy exercising, their spouses and have just a good sense of humor about life. The movie would’ve been better if he taught her a lesson or two. Thank you for your comment!

Saw this movie this evening... my God you're spot on!! To me the most insulting part of the strong female character was somehow knowing what was best for Indy at the end when he made it 110% clear it was his decision to stay in past". Then she's all "no, I know better because... reasons". I think that would have served as a better ending to the Indy saga. But nooooo.....
Indiana jones was a tenured professor for over 30 years and his father was also educated and would have left him a sizeable amount of money after he passed away. How exactly is Indiana jones left broke living in a low rent apartment?
At least Crystal Skull gave Indy a satisfying, happy ending to cap stone the series. He married the woman he loved, he has a capable and honorable son to enjoy his life with. This tears it apart
No way, because it fits the character isn't it? Just think about it. Harrison had a great time making the movie, he wanted to do it. This was a last adventure, and we should take it this way, ofc it's not better than any previous ones, maybe except Crystal Skull.
More like return to the recliner and fall asleep with the paper on top of you. Your son has forgotten you and your wife died last year. You can't knock the top off of rice pudding never mind hardened criminals. Now that film is called reality.
“And they talk about the male ego” 100% !! I actually just saw these movies in a completely new way. They are Kathleen’s fantasy of George Lucas being a wasted old man and her taking his place as a powerful and refreshing female. She must have been building up resentment about not being as good as him over years and years. He was so good and she wasn’t, she couldn’t cope with it. So she imagined herself as perfect and him as a loser, and that’s what we see playing out on screen over and over. These new movies are her psyche forced onto old franchises. Amazing insight Drinker.
@@MarVIogs She owes him everything yet gives nothing back. Oh well, I just hope Lucas and Spielberg were dicks for her to work with and had their fun. If they were nice to her then it's doubly fucked up.

Kathleen Kennedy likes to GUT heroes of the past. I dunno why or who hurt her, but I'm guessing it was someone who was angry at her purposely breaking their nicest stuff.
The last shot of this video says it all. The iconic closing of Last Crusade with Indy, his dad and the others riding into the sunset. That's the Indy I will remember. We didn't see him age out, and we didn't need to. He was just Indiana goddamn Jones, whip-toting, snake- hating treasure hunter. Forever.

But this is pure fiction. It's a fantasy, a delusion and story we tell ourselves time and time again, to repress thinking of mortality and death. I like that our childhood Hero's are deconstructed to the point where we see their fragility, because that is what we are. It is grounded in reality.
@@RoseJetExhaust If that's what you want to get out of it, I can certainly respect that view, and you are correct. Of course it's fiction, that's the whole point, movies are a form of escapism. It's not necessary to see Indy, or Han Solo or some other classic swashbuckling hero, to always be seen later as this downtrodden, sad old man whose life went to shite. Couldn't he just be chilling happily with Marion when adult Short Round shows up to beg for his help rescuing some Chinese artifact for reasons? I'd be right on that. I'm just saying every film doesn't need the harsh reality of life. We've got enough of that already lol.
The reviews for Diarrhea of Dysentery between Chris Stuckmann and the Critical Drinker are night and day. Stuckmann had little to no problems an issues with this fifth installment at all and barely gets real and critical on how much the film disrespects the titular character among other crappy things. As someone who does creative writing for a hobby, I have to say: these films make me realize what NOT to do when creating a story and forming characters. (It's disappointing to see that modern entertainment is showing me the things I should NOT do when it comes to creative storytelling. That's just sad.) The critique from channels like this one also help to see what makes these films so... icky. It makes me reflect on the choices I've made in my own works so that I don't make the same mistakes. So... yikes.
@@johntiggleman4686 There was a period of my life where I was hoping the books and comics I've read would get some sort of adaptation, these days I just pray everyone ignores my darlings.

I don't consider my self pessimistic, but the older I get the more I have to agree with my dad. "Everything you loved growing up turns to shit". Which sucks so much to actually experience.
Here’s my advice, stop consuming Western media, unless it’s agreed by a large amount of people to be really good, instead look to the East because they have so many stories to tell in many different ways, from live action drama/comedy, to vidja games, to animations, to their better comics. In other words, ignore the west, embrace Japan.

I can't get over the incredibly poignant metaphor of dragging Indiana Jones out of the past, where he was comfortable and wanted to die, into the modern age where he is miserable, soulless, and depressing. If that isn't modern Hollywood I don't know what is.
Bro seemed genuinely happy and satisfied with staying in the past, but then they just had to pull the typical “time travel trope” where changing the past can have dire consequences even though he’s on the brink of death and can’t really do much. I feel so bad for Jones 😢 and I hope that dictator Kathleen Kennedy can soon face consequences for ruining some of the best movie series of all time
I watched Raider and the Last Crusade for the second time like two weeks ago. They have aged fine. Action scenes and humor still stands up, which is all that matters for films like these. Indiana Jones is in it's core is like a more heroic take on the basic pulp formula of adventure man going to exotic location to plunder artifacts. Making a film with that kind of formula these days is hard. First of all the Indiana Jones title wasn't passed on when Harrison Ford was young, so the namesake role is attached to an actor who is too old to do actual action scenes. Second, in the current year you have all sorts of harpies screeching about colonialism and racism and what have you if you do a movie about a white guy ransacking ethnic dungeons. And then you have the usual feel of films made by a committee that modern Disney is so notorious of and overabundant use of CGI, which ages a lot less gracefully than properly done scenes on set.
Having Indy stay in the past would’ve been a history-altering event that could lead to a terrible outcome. And he’s not going to be miserable anymore now that his wife’s back.
As @TheCriticaIDrikner once said: . If there’s a silver lining to this shit-storm, it's that the scale of Kennedy's incompetence only underscores the superiority of all the movies she tried so hard to bury and upstage. Working with less money, more primitive technology and fewer resources, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg achieved something she'll never ever equal - a legacy to be proud of.
The sad thing is that in her social circle she as well has achieved something praised and held in high regard… destroying landmark franchises of male identification.
Did all of you forget all the movies she executive produced that you people claim as better than this? She was responsible for the first three films. You remember that, right?
One thing I really liked about the cars 3 movie was taht although the new female character that came in to help out the male lead find his hights again is a great talent in of herself. The movies still made it clear taht his experiences are very valuable and you can really feel his knowledge and skill that has built up over the years. Crazy how cars 3 did it better than the majority of box office movies these days.
That's indeed, Cruz was a fine and working female successor for main male lead who doesn't replace him but turns up as an addition for his own story arc without losing her own.
I’d agree. Some people will be upset that a female character comes in to take up the mantle. Nothing wrong with that but the trope has been used a hundred times since cars 3 came out. So looking back it doesn’t seem as original as it was at the time. Was a good story. All athletes are eventually surpassed by the next generation. Even Brady will be overcome. It’s hard to accept that. And they gave Lightning his personality and honor. That’s good.
I showed my 7 year old son the Indiana Jones trilogy while he was off school this week with tonsillitis. He loved them and asked if there were any more Indiana Jones movies to watch. I said "no, just the trilogy".
Good. That was the right thing to do. Like not telling them Santa Clause etc is not real. He will find out in his own time and way. There are only 3 Indy movies. The other two were made years too late and for the wrong reasons and it shows. Your clever white lie means he can enjoy the Indiana Jones stories as we all did back in the 80s without them being ruined. When he is older he can make up his mind if he wants to see the two belated bad films. If he wants more Indy, get hold of the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. He will enjoy those and learn something of history and world into the bargain.....without knowing he is being taught and keeping it fun....the best way to educate a child in my book....
The same way with my boys and star wars. They can discover the wreckage on their own voyage in life. I like the movie magic being there, and that they have a connection to these older films.

I feel confident in saying that KK has for many years held a grudge if not a hatred of being relegated to working "under" Lucas and Spielberg. Only someone with her narcissism would think they could supplant their legacy with her own in such a ham-handed fashion. For her this all wasn't so much ideological zealotry as it was a more fundamentally base, a personal vendetta. Perhaps Spielberg's snub could be due to him coming to a similar conclusion.
Let's set the record straight. There was no snub on KK by Spielberg. Stop listening to UA-cam idiots who are pushing for clicks and views. We all know the main players for Indy are Spielberg, Lucas, Ford and Williams. KK was the coffee runner girl on the first indy set and married into her producing role. She walked on the coattails of great creatives before her to get to where she is at and nothing more. Why would Spielberg ever consider giving her praise for anything creative? Because a UA-cam idiot said that she was snubbed in a speech? I must have missed where she created the Indy character by herself or acted out the part or wrote an entire script or directed a film or produced a musical theme for a whole film....actually I've read where she did input her ideas from time to time to Spielberg, all of which were tossed aside because they were terrible ideas.

Literary/Artistic Necromancy, the idea of re-embodying the message of the original writer or creator with intent to pervert/distort/re-imagine their original work.
I like to think that there's an unused ending somewhere where Indy stays in the past and at the end Marion, mourning his disappearance, attends a museum showing of the discovery of an 'ancient hero' lost to time and sees the hat and realises that it's Indy. It would bring the whole series full circle because Indy himself would 'belong in a museum' and become a key part of history that he loves so much. The worst part of the film for me was the end, when Indy decides to stay in the past and 'strong female character' takes his choice away and knocks him out, deciding for him. Having an abrasive, unlikeable woman with no positive qualities force Indy to make a major life decision against his will is the biggest disgrace of the film. Indy is a man who always makes his own choices, for better or worse and that was the most unforgivable part of this film for me, which did have some good moments and overall could have been better than Crystal Skull by a longshot.

Kathleen Kennedy isnt even trying to hide it anymore. She's made it clear that George Lucas's vision for star wars is gone and that we should 'move on'. Sad to see a beloved series me and several others grew up with be destroyed over someone with a personal agenda
If it's gone, then it should burn to the ground and to let it rest at least for awhile. For someone, an actual Star Wars fan who grew up with it + would respect it, to revive it from the ashes down the line(assuming Nukes haven't dropped).
moving on isn't bad ... it's natual process as we change to become better versions of ourselves. The problem is that the new thing is not a 'better/improved version' of its predecessor. Instead we got something that only exists to destroy and hate the very thing that allowed it to exist.

I paid, in spite of his commentary, and it was money well spent. It's a good, solid movie, and he's outright lying about some of the details in the review. People should view the film and decide for themselves, but some of the details like how Teddy knows how to fly a plane are clearly established in the film, he doesn't just magic the plane into action. And, there is a very good reason why they opted to kill Mutt off in Vietnam, that was necessary for the scene in Ancient Greece to work and for the end scene with Marion to make any sense at all. It's hardly a perfect film, but I urge people to watch it themselves and make up their own mind about it. And unlike the Crystal Skulls, it does at least have an ending that follows reasonably from the rest of the movie. And unlike Crystal Skulls, I can see myself watching it again in the future, not just if it's the only thing on TV.

I went to the theater with no expectations and still ended up disappointed. I can’t believe people are saying this is better than kingdom of the crystal skull. I’m like REALLY? Indy was watchable because he was an adventurer that was always in way over his head but was able to come out on top because he could handle himself. The younger Indy would easily make quick work with the villains in the 5th film by himself.
That tells you that fans and audiences have already been opening up their eyes on what Disney has become. And would rather focus their attention on content creators instead.
Man! The ire, indignant sentiment and rancor that Drinker felt for this movie was truly palpable in that review. I mean, we’re not just talking an act for humor’s sale, Drinker truly sounded irate and livid over the whole experience. When he said “that’s it”, I had to concur. However, this isn’t just about destroying George Lucas’s legacy. It’s about destroying everything we’re love. That is the objective of KK and those like her. They won’t stop until they’ve desecrated everything we care about. To be perfectly honest, there isn’t much left for them to destroy at this point. Star Wars, Indy, Marvel, Bond, Lord of the Rings, Ghostbusters, etc. The list goes on and on. What haven’t they touched yet?
Warhammer. Although even there, they try to subject it to their whims. The problem is that the fanbase is very protective if not rabid and the hobby is very niche, denying them a permanent foothold
In order to control people you have to destroy their hope for better things to come, and an effective way to destroy that is to destroy their icons and heroes only to replace them with an inferior substitute. The ultimate aim is to create a demoralized, ground-down population that gives up on everything. People in that condition are easier to manipulate and brainwash into believing anything.
It never fails to impress me how Kathleen Kennedy manages to fail upwards. She's the only person I know to fail as much as she does but still manages keep her job

By all accounts, they had private screenings that were so bad, they went into emergency reshooting and re-editing to make new plot lines and replace what they had originally planned. And that's why the movie is a jarring crazy-quilt of unrelated scenes, cobbled together at the last minute - because that's exactly what happened. The rumor was that they originally filmed it so that Rey Skywalker II uses the "Dial of Ret-conning" to go back in time and replace Indiana Jones with herself in ALL of his adventures. Showing her finding the Ark, saving the Temple Idols, recovering the Holy Grail and even the Crystal Skull - a literal ret-conning of the entire franchise so they could erase Harrison Ford completely, and have Kathleen Kennedy's latest Mary Sue take over. But the screenings were so awful and so hated that they were forced to dump all that on the editing room floor. So an embittered Kennedy ended the movie with Rey II punching Indy out, and dragging him back to his life and marriage by the scruff of his neck like a little kid who didn't want to eat his vegetables. BOO, Disney. BOO.
Not only that. The original ending involved Indiana waking up in his New York apartment, putting on the Fedora, and reflecting "this hat is perfection" to which fleabag responded "it will be once it fits a woman" and then she took the hat and put it on. Indy tried to protest so she aimed a machine gun at him, pointed to her eyes and said "look at me, look at me, I'm Indiana now" and then she put the dial in the hat and became Ms. Retcon, and with the machine gun went to kill all the nazis in the multiverse, and to collect every relic that Indiana discovered, plus the mummy of Imhotep and the Dragon Emperor, the triangle of Light, the Golden Cat from that movie with Stifler and The Rock, and onto discover the cradle of life, and even King Solomon's Mines...
@@marbellaotaiza801 That is truly some bizarre shit. But, for Hollywood as a whole, there was always perception of an arrogant 'cult' at the higher ranks...but now it seems that the arrogance, self-importance, and politics has separated them from the rest of the world and what these legacy movies meant to us originally. Let them implode so we can put all of this out of its misery.
The sad part is not only did they destroy George Lucas but also the legacy of his ex-wife who was arguably the best video editor of our lifetime. George was awesome at script writing but lacked the finesse of converting it to a viewable form. Marcia Lou once said the proof of her performance was the dip in quality of Locus Films after she left and I agree with her. Great job Disney for proudly destroying a woman's legacy.
You can argue George Lucas destroyed his own legacy with the special editions, the prequels and Crystal Skull. Also, George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to the white slavers.
Awesome script writer? Apparently you missed the painful romance scenes between Anakin and Padme. “I hate sand… it gets in everything.” Yeah that horrible line will seal womens legs shut. Not lead to love.

After watching this at the cinema my first thought was "I kinda wish they made the whole movie like the first 15 mins".... Temple was a prequel. So could this have been and hence we could all stick to riding into the sunset is the end of the FOUR Indy movies.
That was the angriest "Go away now" I've ever heard. In Harrison Ford's defense, you'd be sad, weak, and broken too, if you saw what they were doing to one of your most beloved characters. Why SHOULD he help them make a fool of him? The worst part of this, I have a friend who went and saw it last night. She posted on her Facebook that she was going, and I replied "My condolences. They made a mockery of him". She replied that she enjoyed the movie! I don't know what to say to that, because I don't want to come off like I'm telling her "You're stupid, you don't know what's good, you've been suckered", because then I sound like Disney, telling us the same thing, that we're stupid, and we don't really know what we want or like, and we should just accept NEXT PRODUCT, and ask for more.
You don't NEED to say anything. LOL. Just be content that you learned something new about your friend. Maybe offer to take her to see SOUND OF FREEDOM on July 4th.
The thing about these movies, like the Star Wars sequels, on a surface level they are enjoyable, if you don't think about what you're watching. It's when you think about them and analyse them on a deeper level that you realise how terrible they are and feel the undercurrent of identity politics, misandry and hatred for the source material.
It's possible your friend just enjoyed a bunch of action sequences, without thinking too hard about the plot or characters. That's literally every MCU movie, and look how many people like those (probably including some of the people knocking this Indy movie). They have no characterization and no plot, just a bunch of loosely tied-together action sequences and wisecracks. No wonder Disney thinks the formula can work. I hope someday to watch decent movies again, maybe after the industry finally crashes and burns.
This really seems like a bone Kathleen kennedy will never be finished picking at. She is BITTER. She hates how long she had to stand there and be talked down to by her superiors while they were making history. I honestly believe she WANTS to burn everything they built down to the ground, the only problem is that she was expecting everyone to love what she tried to rise from those ashes. We didn't. No one did. But that doesn't matter, because like Carl the Lama wearing a hat, her work isn't done. She literally will not stop until she is forced too; she believes she is the female Leonidas standing before Xerxes, ready to throw her spear and die as a self proclaimed martyr for "ThE mESSaGE!" She seems to be a proud misandrist, but like the drinker has mentioned in his open bar many times, her mindset can never be dissuaded because of the titanium dense bubble she lives within. She will die like Wendy wanted too in peter pan and Wendy, Old, alone, believing she was right until the very last breath. No change made in her vengeful wake, only dead plucked flowers taken from a once beautiful garden with the soil now grossly salted so nothing can ever grow there again.
I know women like that. Those are awful people. Bitter, bitter, wolves in sheep's clothes. Those type of wolen onñy care about being right amd winnimg. Not making a good movie or product or anything.
I don't think it's so much 'misandry', and I'll pull part of your statement that I agree with: >"She hates how long she had to stand there and be talked down to by her superiors while they were making history" This I agree with. She was probably your typical 'professional' woman [read: 'glorified secretary'] that thinks she's the smartest person in the room, and spent many years being [properly] ignored by her [wiser] superiors. I'd wager many of her suggestions and ideas were mostly ignored [at best]. Now that she's in charge- she's convinced all her ideas have merit and SHOULD succeed. I've seen individuals like this during my 20 years in the military and in other occupations: that one person that thought they knew better than their far more experienced and accomplished superiors, and once they pick up a leadership role they can do it 'their way'- only to watch it all crash and burn. The sad truth is, I saw most people like this eventually wise up and say "Old School was right", but there's a few like Kathleen that lack the humility and self-awareness to admit this.
I was always a bigger fan of Crystal Skull’s ending since it gave Indy pretty much everything he wanted. He’s married the greatest woman in his life, he’s got a son who can continue his legacy, but he’s still in good enough condition to keep adventuring. Dial of Destiny took that all away from him.
I would really like to see a comparison of how this movie treats "old age" or deconstructing legacy characters with Logan, which was brutal with Wolverine and Dr.X, turning their defining traits against them, dreams crushed and looking only to hide away until death. yet they didn't mock the characters
Give Kennedy some credit: she’s gotta be the only person of power in Hollywood who continuously puts out terrible content and destroys legendary IPs, yet still gets applause by her peers at the end of the day. And the women of Hollywood like to tell us how bad they have it…anybody would KILL for that kind of power and get away with terrible decisions… I hope to God this film bombs so we can get one step closer to her finally getting kicked out of leadership…
Imagine tho being critical of KK?? It's like being critical of somebody mentally challenged who's a person of color, or almost as bad. It would mean the end of your career. So it pays to be "woke" if you want to keep your acting career intact. I'm no fan of Mel Gibson that much, but his Hollywood career ended when he was perceived as a misogynist and/or had some rocky relationships with younger women.
My father is an old man, and I think he said it best watching the trailer for this: "They just can't let boys have heroes any more. I don't wonder why. I *know* why."
the only good thing that will come out of this is the sheer spectacle of Disney losing hundreds of millions yet again, and I, amongst others, will sit back and enjoy every moment of it.
I'm no Hollywood accountant but I think they find ways to make money after all. They use creative accounting, they use California Tax credit schemes, they do various bankruptcy schemes and somehow it really makes just as much money as if it made 200 million more than it cost. Thus that saying 'in Hollywood, no movie ever made money and no movie lost money".
I would have liked to see Short Round (Ke Huy Quan) carry on the franchise, I thought it would have been the next natural step after he won an Oscar. He has experience with stunts and fight choreography, they could have made something more grounded but also action packed, something that could have had a chance at being interesting.
The sad part is that Hollywood, despite their obsession with "mah diversitay" doesn't have faith an an Asian male lead in an iconic and celebrated franchise, even though Short Round is an iconic character himself. Sorry, but that's the cold, hard truth.
It was commented before, but having this movie center around the return of Short Round needing Jones help would have been a home run. Showing him come back as a grown man with his own abilities and reverence for Indiana would have elevated the story to classic in an instant
Especially since the actor has only just gotten back into acting with Everything Everywhere All at Once, this would've been the perfect time to bring his character back and really let the actor shine!
Short Round, plus lifting the story from a property they already own - The Fate Of Atlantis - would have made more sense, but what at Disney Lucasfilm makes any sense any more?

The 70s, 80s & 90s gave us some of the most iconic & entertaining films in modern history...and it took Disney less than 10 years to completely destroy some of the best of those films. They deserve to crash and burn for what they've done to our childhood.
I'm really sorry that you can't ignore the existence of this worthless trash and just have the true works stand on their own like they've been doing for decades. Just because a load of hacks pinch out a turd and give it the same name as an original work of art doesn't mean it's in any ways related to the real thing. These are cheap knockoffs and everyone recognizes them as such.
I haven't seen the movie yet, so I can't really comment on the film itself. However, the fact is Disney are creatively bankrupt. They go out and buy IPs and studios like some kind of manic hoarder and don't care about the fans of those IPs or the original creators' legacy, only about how much money they could make from them. They don't even care about their own legacy, as they're content with just taking their old animated movies and making terrible live action remakes instead of putting the time, money and brain power into making something original. The sad part is between these movies, MCU and Disney+ they're probably going to keep making billions regardless of how bad the movies are.
How does it benefit Disney to damage the value of the multibillion-dollar asset they have in Lucasfilm? I really think this is adequately explained by stupidity, not malice
@@Drewbie176 Stupidity is part of it, but so is active malice. KK hates the existing audience. She wants a different audience... one that doesn't have Y chromosomes.
Don't they expect to make billions of dollars in addition to doing this though? What if they don't and audiences just plain don't go to see it, don't pay to be subjected to their mockery, then what?
Two missed opportunities I thought surrounding Helena. 1, her father should have been Marcus Brody. And by the trailers, I thought Toby Jones was playing a young Brody. It would have tied her in better with Indy. 2. Maybe instead of Helena, the sidekick could have been a grown up Shorty. The kid who was the sidekick on his first adventure, comes back as an adult, down on his luck, and resorts to robbing his old friend of a priceless artifact to sell at an auction. Indy refuses to believe that Shorty is capable of such a thing and comes back as a friend and father figure to Shorty. Then at the end, Shorty is the one who refuses to let his adopted dad go, and reunites Indy and Marion.
While I'm a part of the based "There are only 3 Indiana Jones movies" gang. I can appreciate the idea that there once was an attempt at a 4th movie, one that would bring Indy back together with the love of his life, and a son he didn't knew he had, and that by the end he would've made amends, married the love of his life, and taken responsibility for his son, living a happy life, and the tales of his great adventures could've inspired his son to continue his legacy as not only a historian, but an adventurer as well. That all could've been left to our imagination, even if this theoretical 4th movie wasn't very good. Dial of 911 has tainted even the mere thought Indy could've lived a happy life with his wife and son, "Nah your son died and you had a divorce. But don't worry, though you may have been a failure, we have found the perfect replacement, a british woman who once challenged a plank to an acting contest and lost". At least Indiana Jones is a franchise where each movie serves as a unique adventure that doesn't require watching any other, so now that we saw yet another shitty Indy movie we can just go back to the good ones and forget this one. We already did that with a movie that wasn't nearly as bad, so we're pros at this by now.
I wonder if some really talented fan-editor could take the last two films, flush all the garbage, and cut the remainder together into a 10- to 30-minute short film that, well, doesn't suck. Perhaps just the family stuff from Skull and the de-aged flashback from Destiny, maybe a moment or two with Sallah if it works out narratively --- somehow salvaging a kind of epilogue to Crusade where not long after reconciling with his father he reconciles with his wife and son. Just a thought. Give KK a taste of her own medicine by cannibalizing her two stupid films to make something that honors rather than destroys the IJ trilogy.

In an alternative reality, Kathleen Kennedy retired in 2011 and people in 2023 still remember her as a legendary producer of movies like The Adventures of Tintin, War Horse, Signs, The Sixth Sense, Schindler's List, Jurassic Park, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Goonies, Back to the Future and original Indiana Jones. But unfortunately for her, this is our reality and she didn't retire.
Naw, even though she's a female Stan Lee who stole credit and rode the backs of those better than her, the childhood memories are still intact. This is just the easily ignore doodlings of wannabe hacks.
Just minor changes could make the same basic story so much better. Indiana could have been retiring happy from Marshall on top after a stellar career as a Dean (instead misery as a professor at Hunter), imagining the action was behind him, happy but feeling his age. We get a positive memory lane moment of previous adventures (sans Crystal skull). Then his goddaughter shows up, and Indiana postponed his retirement for one more adventure because she claims she’s in trouble. Through out, he could rediscover love for adventure he always had. Meanwhile work to show his goddaughter the error of her ways (with actual felt consequences to her actions, perhaps even starting her off fully recognized in the villain camp). Have a reason for why Voller survived the train with his head attached and brains not mush. Give an actual plan for how killing Hitler would put Voller in the position to lead the Nazis, and a clearer understanding of why he’s so desperate for that, even though he’s had a successful life. Show off Voller’s intelligence instead of just telling us about it. Pick between Continental drift or “by design” as the only reason they were sent back further than planned. Have the device open fissures, not just point them out (can of worms with fissures being a natural occurrence but no signs of anyone else ever accidentally time traveling). Give Indiana something heroic to do in the climatic scene. Give the girl a clear character/redemption arch for bad thief to more in line with Indiana’s morality. Ditch the kid. Ditch the random pilot in the back of the kid’s plan, who served zero purpose. Return to the present with Indiana deciding on a more adventure filled “retirement,” gained by his experience in time and with a new hunt based on something he learned while there. Those changes, and I’d just be complaining about CGI Indiana running on top of a train.
Please watch 'The Adventures of Tintin', directed by Spielberg. I took my son to that years ago and expected I'd be mildly amused by it. Holy shit but ten minutes into the film I began to realize I was in fact watching an Indiana Jones film that just got rebranded as Tintin and turned into an animation. Really, watch it and know that there was a fifth (...fourth) and dammit it would have been great. I still watch it while the Raiders theme plays in my head.
I wholeheartedly agree with you on all those points. I would only be mildly dissatisfied with the film instead of shutting it off after the first 15 minutes of watching
I'd make Indy still active, a workaholic addicted to his job, this is what destroyed his relationship with Marion, and only at the end of the film he'll realize that he can be happy even without adventure.
It's impressive that Walt Disney and his employees managed to forge a Company that's capable of withstanding losses like this. Talk about midgets on the shoulders of giants.

Pretty sure Drinker did a video on this, but the destruction not only of individual heroes but The Hero as a concept, the dragging down/deconstruction/humiliation of any fictional character with positive traits, seemingly for spite's sake, has the potential to leave entire generations of young folks with emptiness, self-hatred, and absolutely nothing to aspire to.

They have aged fine. Action scenes and humor still stands up, which is all that matters for films like these. Indiana Jones is in it's core is like a more heroic take on the basic pulp formula of adventure man going to exotic location to plunder artifacts.
Making a film with that kind of formula these days is hard. The worst part of the film for me was the end, when Indy decides to stay in the past and 'strong female character' takes his choice away and knocks him out, deciding for him. I say for most of us The Indiana Jones franchise ended in The Last Crusade. When he rode to the sunset with Sallah, Marcus, and his father Henry Jones Sr. The Crystal Skull, And the Dial of Destiny are non canon to the amazing trilogy.
Kathleen Kennedy is like a little child playing with it's father's train collection. It doesn't know what it has, and it throws it in the corner when it's finished playing.
I forgot to mention:
ua-cam.com/video/EZTY1L1T4xQ/v-deo.html
This is accurate
A cruel and bratty child, at that. When her father tries to teach her about the trains, she spits on him, insists she knows better, and breaks parts to spite him.
The scene of Toy Story 3 where the toys get mistreated summerizes what Kathleen Kennedy did to the Star Wars franchise
And picks up a new train to screw with.
She did it, Kathleen Kennedy finally ruined Indy just like she did with Luke & Han
Will Disney finally fire her…I think not

Yeah no because Kathleen cares about brownie points and that's it kinda like Disney
She performed her job perfectly & most people are too dumb/naive to see it.

Jesus christ, the broken male hero again? Imagine what top gun 2 would've been like if Disney was making it? Though I doubt Tom Cruise would allow himself to be humiliated like that also.
probably be in a zimmer frame and the made up inserted daughter of his old flame from the first movie would magickly be 10x better than him in the cockpit I reckon
Wouldn't you rather see a Top Gun 2 in which Maverick isn't the hero super-pilot that we remember, but rather gaslit into thinking he's a washed up never-was, upstaged in fighter aviation by an obese African American lesbian with a fade haircut, that's somehow an immediately better & flawless pilot, even though she's never flown any plane before in her life?
It sucks because 15 years ago they treated Indiana Jones right. I know a lot of people hate Crystal Skull but atleast Indie was still kicking ass as an old guy and wasn’t a broken man who was miserable to watch.
If there is an antimatter to exceptionalism, artistry, creativity, excellence, reverence and respect, it’s called Kathleen Kennedy.

Absolutely the best line in the review.
2 things stood out in this video for me.
First was when the Drinker said 'How is it possible for the film company to hate their own characters'.
And the next thing was at the end he mentions how 'they' are not creators. I had a flash back to the first Jurassic Park and Ian Malcom's speech at the dinner table, where he says about they didn't learn the knowledge for themselves and stood on the shoulders of giants who came before them'. I think that pretty sums up the people who have since gone on to destroy these IP's.
Kathleen Kennedy was a producer on Jurassic Park. So… there’s that.
@@ermpson5799 Exactly, Kennedy was a producer on the original Jurassic Park. I'm sure she did as little as possible or the original Jurassic Park would have been a flop and a complete waste of our time and money. Just like everything else Kennedy does...

He gets some hits in but mostly he gets overpowered by everyone else. I get it he’s old but that’s the point. Indy was watchable because he was an adventurer that was always in way over his head but was able to come out on top because he could handle himself. The younger Indy would easily make quick work with the villains in the 5th film by himself.

BOO.
I almost wish that retconning existed so Kathleen could finally be put on a pike but... no, that'd be too big of a sacrifice

Try not to judge your friend too harshly, she is clearly brain-dead and should only be given sympathy...
She literally will not stop until she is forced too; she believes she is the female Leonidas standing before Xerxes, ready to throw her spear and die as a self proclaimed martyr for "ThE mESSaGE!"
She seems to be a proud misandrist, but like the drinker has mentioned in his open bar many times, her mindset can never be dissuaded because of the titanium dense bubble she lives within. She will die like Wendy wanted too in peter pan and Wendy, Old, alone, believing she was right until the very last breath. No change made in her vengeful wake, only dead plucked flowers taken from a once beautiful garden with the soil now grossly salted so nothing can ever grow there again.

This I agree with.

Don’t forget the TV series, which clearly had some respect for the character as well.
THEY KILLED OFF MUTT?! WHY?! JUST BECAUSE OF FAN BACKLASH FOR THE LAST MOVIE?!
@@billmartinson4205I'm looking forward to AI getting to the point where movies can be generated. Then we'll get what we deserved all along with Indy and Star Wars.
KATHLEEN KENNEDY DID IT!
She did a movie that’s worse than The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
So I forgot to mention:

You might be on to something
High praise indeed!
She's on a mission to destroy Spielberg/Lucas's legacies.
@@LonovavirYour username suggests an imaginary antiviral drug, which is pretty innovative. Love it.
And the point you made is the bottom line. That's the absolute truth..imo, of course.
And her substantive contributions to all of them grow more questionable with every passing day. What did this parasite even *_DO?_*
For real, her current output makes you completely forget everything she’s made.
She didn't make anything. Maybe some coffee. But probably shit coffee
You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
@@OhNyo69i was thinking the same thing. Wish it went differently🙈
Jar-Jar Abrams and his fetch-quest school of "writing". A gift that just keeps giving.
Asking for a strong female character to have an arc is like asking a modern feminist to be nice to men.
Unless your spider Gwen
Impossible, because both require some effort.
It it takes effort, it's oppressive and sexist
@@Nowayyoureamazingikr thank god for spiderverse
Subject a strong female character to character-building adversity? Absolutely _haram_
The only strong female character with an arc is Joan of Arc.
The worst part about all of this is Kathleen, even if she was fired tomorrow, has made a ton of money destroying Lucasfilm and my childhood.
Absolutely true.
“Destroying my childhood” pahahaha get off the internet man jesus christ
19th amendment was a mistake.
At this point, the only justice she could receive is a stage IV cancer diagnosis.
Those changes, and I’d just be complaining about CGI Indiana running on top of a train.
that all sounds way better to me. Also good to know im not the only one that thought that cgi train running looked really weird lol
Or just recast Indy and make an adaption of infernal machine
I'd make Indy still active, a workaholic addicted to his job, this is what destroyed his relationship with Marion, and only at the end of the film he'll realize that he can be happy even without adventure.
"Pennywise in an episode of Sesame Street" may be the funniest analogy I've ever heard.
It's impressive that Walt Disney and his employees managed to forge a Company that's capable of withstanding losses like this. Talk about midgets on the shoulders of giants.
Indiana Jones And The Diarrhoe of Disney 🧻
it's more like maggots in the head of a giant
because the brain has already been eaten
It honestly is impressive how many $100s million dollar losses they sustained in a row. I work for a large company and we would be running around with our heads cut off if we lost a 100 million dollars let alone a billion+
I truly believe with all my fiber that this is a brainwashing psyop. Movies and television does affect your mood let’s face it. Otherwise we wouldn’t watch them after a long day of work to escape. Only It’s just that it doesn’t affect you in a way that some people would claim it would. Doesn’t anyone remember that study they did on cows with vr? they found that they were happier. Now if kids are exposed to this garbage and see what should be their role models act like donkeys, why wouldn’t they think it’s normal. They are encouraged at every corner to be mediocre, settle for less, be depressed and weak. why can’t any one see that?
I'm more surprised that the movie was actually so much worse than everyone expected. Like shit, that takes some talent to make such a terrible movie. lol

The Diagnosis of Dementia.
That's the point.
Just as planned
It's not about the money...
It's about sending a message.

NOT "entire generations"... only half of each.
The other half are "just perfect, just the way they are"... and deserve whatever they need/want, simply for existing.
My own prediction is that the seeds of hatred which they are sowing will bear far worse fruit than SELF-hatred.
In fact, I think that we in the US are ALREADY seeing the some of the "fruits" of those "seeds".
Correct. To destroy heroes and ultimately the very concept of being a hero is thier goal. Noone to fight back, noo. To resist. This is whst they are trying to teach the youth. Hitler knew this, in pretty sure it was him that said give me your children and i will create and entirely new system in 2 generations. Regardless of who said it it is a socialist/communist deconstruction tactic and its clearly being implemented by the WHO and the self procsliamed elites to make way for this so called grandiose new world order they oh so desperaty want
Yay! We all asked for an 80 year old Indiana Jones. Can't wait until they make Wizard of Oz with an 80 year old Dorothy.
