In Germany the case with the accents is very interesting, there is a type of accent what German born Turkish/Arabic people use but only my generation (I was born in 2002) so the newer generation. And even though Im not Turkish I am talking with this kind of accent (mostly bc in my school almost everyone is turkish) and we’re incorporating Turkish words into our sentences. (Even some German Germans talk like this) I think this is super interesting, how theres a completely new accent (made by immigrants ❤️) what for example my parents wouldn’t understand AT ALL. And I love it haha ☺️ Greetings from Germany, I learned so much from your videos. I decided that I want to learn the British accent bc, 1. I wanted to embrace my European identity, I never understood why are European English learners learning the American accent while Britain is right next to you and America is on the other side of the world. 2. (Unfortunately) when someone starts learning English (in a not English speaking country) he starts learning the American accent bc America controls the film industry, the media all the sources where you can learn English, thats why Im so happy when I see channels like yours, keep up the Nice work Anpu 👍🏽
Really love this video with such deep and genuine conversation. It's really nice seeing more people getting involved in #LoveYourIdentity issue, and having someone, Tom from Eat Sleep Dream English, to talk about it and share with us. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the vibes whilst you guys were talking, smiling sort of things. Such a warm feeling. Really fantastic collaboration together. Cheers ☺️
Thanks Anson for the thoughtful comment. I love getting more and more people to speak about #LoveYourIdentity and will continue to do so. Glad you enjoyed the warm vibes :3
mle - main accent in london, represents its multi culture with cocney, young people changing accents with context, family members standard English - pup with mates cockney accent. normal thing to do
is it wrong to adapt accent, because its something you get judged for? balance being authentic and identity comes though accent but you can sometimes use it to your advantage
It's not as important to learn British accent as long as you are articulate and clear to understand. Accent learning is like increasing your knowledge but in today's cosmopolitan world it's not that important. You are welcome to disagree but the reason why you are judged because of you accent of English or colour of you skin is because you are not good at your work. Simple ! People are lesser judgmental today compared to past and far more welcoming to diversity of ethnicity, accents. I wouldn't mind appreciating someone with Caribbean accent , if she's nice to me or if she's good at her work . There's no need to debate if RP is needed to be learnt , Received pronouncing is not commonly spoken , so if you learn n master & use it at wrong place , obviously that would mean you lack sense of reading the situation. As far as corporate English is concerned, A British business manager wouldn't mind someone's English with heavy influence on accent of their mother tongue as long as he gets excellent service, on the contrary if the level of service is poor , automatically accent , ethnicity will come in picture.
Anpu kudos to u mate for your hard work and considerable diligence for the channel. Btw, i m an Indian and i although don't specifically have that so called Indian accent but of late I have seen quite a few British people i mean individuals tried to muck up my accent as well as make a mockery of me. Which really offends me a tad bit....So, I thought that's probably necessary to let u and others know about that frivolous accent dilemma.
Thanks a lot, I'm glad the hard work on my channel is paying off by helping you guys. Oh no, I hate it when people make fun of accents. Totally out of line. Best to stay confident and stay true to who YOU are!

Loved the vid! I'd like to comment on 2 aspects from a foreigner's point of view :) * changing accents in every day life I can only speak for my mother tongue German (born in Western Austria, living in Vienna now) For myself quite a normal day would see me speaking: to Viennese colleagues and friends- Eastern Austrian accent to parents on the phone - Western Austrian dialect to expats trying to learn German - clear standard German to tourists from Germany: German accent ... * RP vs. other accents using English for my job on a daily basis, I'd say I'm more or less fluent (with a charming Austrian-German accent of course!) As I have some friends in Northern England (particularly Manchester and Yorkshire) I started to pronounce some words the way they do (especially the short u sound like in bus, sun, luck, ...) I basically started doing it, because I liked the sound of it better (bus e.g. sounds like we say Bus in German), but here's the thing: My friends from London really get upset when I do it, stating it's not apropriate English and I shouldn't make fun of the Northerners... (which is totally not the case - or as I wouild put it: imitation is the sincerest form of flattery) I found it interesting what kind of emotions this little shift in accent could bring up. I got the feeling they connect it with social levels like "working class" talk. So anyway, Im back to RP with the Southerners and clueless what to do, if we meet the whole lot of us (north and south) in a big group! I guess I need to keep them strictly separated :D
Hi Jürgen, Thanks for the comment. Really interesting hearing about the Austrian accent and how it changes! I wonder what this charming Austrian-German accent sounds like? :) Wooow yeah it's interested how people perceived you to be making fun of the accent, rather than actually enjoying the unique sounds. Just watch more British people and try and mimic them. Keep practicing you'll get it eventually but it takes time
