The ‘r’ sound is tricky in BE. It becomes a schwa when the words end in ‘er’, it is silent if the words end in ‘r’ or the ‘r’ sound is in a consonant cluster again in the end of the word (such as in ‘word’, ‘hard, ‘car’-> in these cases there is a so called vowel lengthening they become wood haad and caa (I don’t have the ipa on my phone)). It is pronounced only when it is followed by a vowel such as ‘green’ or if it’s between two vowels as in ‘terrible’ or if the words start with the ‘r’ as in red.
