Agreed. I'm in my mid 60s and a born again Christian. Ive been listening to alt/heavy rock and then metal since rhe 70s. I've been through a lot since I was in my 30s - including being diagnosed with very painful autoimmune conditions to cancer, job losses, deaths of family members and my husband almost died 2 years ago. Next to my faith, music has gotten me through the hard times. I listened to metal while undergoing radiation therapy and this past spring, helped get through an MRI of the spine. I'm a little claustrophobic and it helped me deal with being in the tube.

Desperate times is my favorite song by Killswitch and i blast it while im working out! still amazing and always will be! lucky i found heavy metal more than 20 years ago now so glad that i did!

I remember when I got diagnosed with stage 4b Hodgkins. I was really close with my family, and my parents and both brothers ( 2 year older and 2 year younger) took it hard. I was in shock, and already hurting hard after a breakup and just starting my career as a police officer; literally had the first bump in the neck 6 weeks after the academy. I heard this song while doing chemo. I had a playlist made up for my family and this song was to my brothers. Reading the comments, cancer is harder on the family then the one going through it. I would absolutely take a diagnosis again then any of my loved ones. Five years now since the diagnosis, still in remission and engaged to a beautiful and supportive woman. Never told the family about my playlist, and wondering if they will ever see this comment. Be safe everyone and stay strong.
I remember being a sophomore or junior in high school when I came home and my parents sat me down at the table to tell me something. My mom had Malignant Melanoma, no where near your diagnosis I know now, but when you're a kid, you just get told it's the "serious skin cancer". I dont remember what stage except it wasn't in the lymph nodes but wasn't just a spot, it was a deformed bleeding mole.
Regardless, they told me at the dinner table and I'll never forget that feeling. They told me it was cancer and there was a pause, and I got up and left the table and went into the next room, the kitchen. I opened the fridge, shut it, opened it, shut it, went to the sink, went to cupboard, got a cup, went to the sink, went to the fridge. I wanted nothing but had to do something, so I poured a glass of milk and drank it even though I didn't want to but I poured it and I didn't know what to do so I drank milk and went back to the table. The stupidest thing, but I just remember the feelings.
She had it removed with good margins, then they took more margins out and they were clean. She went on a drug trial of Interferon and for a year, i injected her 3 times a weeks with it. It gave her chills, anger and rage, full body aches, headaches, wrecked her teeth.
After the year ended, she had clean exams and blood tests and is still recovered almost 20 years later with no signs of any other cancer. I saw the results of that trial or a similar one treating malignant melanoma with interferon, and it had no statistical difference in survival versus placebo.
Oh well, but she took that medicine and year of her life for my family. I always remember her strength.
Here's to your remission and hers, and hope you and your bride-to-be can have/did have a great wedding despite this Covid world and a long happy life together!

The fact that he called his brother before, that last call for help. Where are you? how fast can you be here? He didnt want to die, he just wanted the pain to end. I was the last one my brother called, 1 minute before. I was 8 hours away. I had no chance. This song makes me instantly burst into tears. It hits so close to home. I have wanted to follow my brother so many times! Today, 5-2-22, is 5 years since that last call. I miss him every day!

My older brother introduced me to metal, including Killswitch Engage. He was my best friend, my role model. This was one of his favorite songs. Yesterday, Easter Sunday 2024, one of my younger brothers (there's five of us brothers) found our oldest brother laying in the bathroom of his apartment. After not being able to get a hold of him, he went over and kicked in his door fearing the worst. He was gone. He'd been on dialysis for 4 years after discovering he had kidney disease from an autoimmune disorder. He was only 35. I'm 28 and now the oldest. I like to think this is him telling me that he's still with me. I love you and miss you so much Nathan.

My best friend of almost 40 years passed away today (6/2/23) from cancer. I didn't know he was sick until recently and just saw him last weekend. He just got married over a year ago and has a 6 month old son who won't get to know him. I promise to tell him how great a man his father was. Peaty scotch and fair winds, my friend.

I went to see killswitch in january 2014 with a few friends in Dublin and it was one of the best concerts I was ever at.The next day when I got home to Sligo I got a call from my mum who wanted me to come visit my brother in hospital while I was off college and work.Turns out he had a bleed in his lung because he had Cystic fibrosis(I do too) .He was moved into intensive care immediately and for 2 weeks we stayed at his bed side living in the hospital but he never made any improvement while he was in an induced coma and sadly my brother passed on February 14th 2014.The day before he passed away my mum was on my phone looking at a picture of my brother and she accidently played a video I had in my gallery that I recorded at the concert which was this one,Out of all the videos this was the video she mistakenly clicked on.I can related so much to this video because my older brother was sick for a long time and he was also a photographers(Other)....Until now I've never been able to listen to this song because it was to hard and seeing the video just added to that.This is such a beautiful and means so much to me.Hand to god this is a true story.THANK YOU KILLSWITCH ENGAGE

I lost my mom 3 years ago after we were just rebuilding our relationship. It was her birthday 5 days ago and mother's day 4 days ago.
I had a love/hate relationship with my mom. I had a huge fight with her over the phone, a week before she suddenly died of a stroke. That was the last time i spoke to her. I was in my mid-20s. Im 40 now. And the pain remains.

It’s absolutely criminal how underrated this band is, Killswitch Engage is the type of band that deserve to be getting billions of views.
a lot of their music sounds absolutely nothing like this though, and that has a lot to do with their popularity or lack of. For every beautiful song like this there's another 10 or more that's just screaming at a mic.
thing is they never sold out, and they don't plan too, which is how they want it. They are here for us before themselves, not 50 million dollar mansions, but you also can have that without selling out, its just a lot of work and a lot of side businesses and insane amounts of marketing.

I feel your pain. My grandfather tried to kill himself because he was depressed and lonely. He passed away about a year later. I knew he was lonely and I blame myself for not being there when he needed me. I've been full of regret ever since.
To anyone reading this. Pay attention to the ones you love. Especially if they live alone. Don't realize it when it's too late that you missed out on so much.

I can relate to TheTragicDream my grandfather passed as well it took me years to realize that I did not do anything that had killed my grandpa though my grandpa was very sick but I saw him two nights exactly before he passed and my parents, aunts and uncles saw him the night before. My mom always says that God takes the best of angels. Even though not everyone is religious but it helps me and I hope this post helps others.
My best buddy Pete had PTSD from tours in Iraq, died of an overdose in 2016, right after I moved out of state. He came down to Florida with me and stayed for a week, last week I saw him. RIP brother. This always brings be back.
I almost died from COVID a few months ago...and my little brother was so damn scared...this song hits me so hard...the thought that I may have had to leave him hurt and scared me to death. Thankfully, God had other plans for me and I'm still here.

I lost my dog after 13 years this week. She was family, she did everything with us. She was a very special animal...I was leaving my parents last night and flipped the radio and the last verse of this song had just begun...I think it was a sign letting me know she’s okay. I miss her so much.

I’m so terribly sorry for such devastating loss…I, too, lost my boy April 11th and it’s hard to go on without him because he helped me hold so much together. 12 years of unmatched loyalty and dependable companionship wiped away by lymphoma with no regard of what destruction was left in its wake. I just miss him so so badly. :(

I found out that a high school friend passed. We havent spoke but on social media here and there within the last year or so. When I heard of her passing all I do is reflect back when she was the one that gave me a hug everyday and the time of day in high school. I didnt even know here and one day she just came up to me and gave me hug. She always had a smile on her face. Thank you Chelsea. Wish I was able to tell you in person. Life is cruel at times. I have had a few brothers in the Army leave us mulch to soon, and now that we are older many of us are dying of cancer and other terminal diseases we picked while in the Army. A good friend from Basic Brandon just passed recently from cancer. A lot of us are sick physically and emotionally. It took me forever to find this song, after hearing it a few years ago, and still I think of my 2 sisters, my baby brother and unfortunately I now have to include my son, this song is one of the best songs I've heard and it brings me to tears over the ones I've lost but it also helps me get through the thoughts of being alone. I had a cat who past away in 2017, he was amazing. Even though he would always run outside and hide in trees, it was a pain to get him down, it was still funny. He died at the age of 3 due to a bad heart. I always have his ashes right next to me on my desk. He was amazing. He would always snuggle with me, my sister, mom, or my dad. It has been 5 years though. It hurts whenever a pet or family member dies, it is the hardest moment of your life. When I heard this song, I tried to keep my tears in, but it was nearly impossible. After I read some of these comments, I tried to not cry, but I started bursting into tears. You guys have to stay strong and keep it positive! Even though it might be tough, you will still get through!

Bartek Fiedorowicz You are all wrong. It is about how the older guy got HIV from a blood transfusion that he got on the battlefield after being wounded in Desert Storm. He calls the other guy "brother" in the beginning because they fought together in Iraq and are comrades. He gets the bloody nose because they were snorting drugs that were cut with some harsh stuff. The younger guy storms off after the bloody nose because he is pissed that he has to share a straw, or rolled up dollar bill, with the HIV patient with a bloody nose. And all the coke belongs to the HIV guy, so non-HIV guy can't say "oh, I don't want to share the straw" because that would be insensitive to insult someone with HIV and a pocketful of free drugs. So he does it anyway. Then he jumps into the pool because he is pissed that he probably contracted HIV from his friend because he had an open sore in his nose, from picking it too much, and the other guy's blood got in his nose. They keep showing the camera because they both are huge investors in silver. And silver compounds are created when you develop 35mm film. So basically, he blew all the money he made from when the price of silver skyrocketed on the price of HIV medication. And that still didn't save his life. God rest his soul.
