people will disagree but. in my opinion. there is NO ONE else in metal who has harmonized beautiful clean vocals with heavy distorted music quite the way Howard did with Killswitch. amazing
Howard is insane! Not to many in the entire music industry can compare to power he puts behind the lyrics!! It takes so much control to be able to sing with that much force and still hold all the melodic notes so beautifully. The man is nothing short of a Jedi of his craft!
Probably the most emotional song of theirs, this song just absolutely destroyed me when I first heard it. Perfectly captured how I felt- just wrecked with depression. Things are all good these days, but still nice to re-listen to this and go through it all again in a way. Kind of releases the remnents of those feelings

I was used to hearing very harsh metal vocal stylings (a friend of mine introduced me to bands like Korn and Disturbed to get me into metal and while not "harsh" vocalists, they weren't very smooth clean vocalists) but the smoothness and richness of Howard's voice drew me in and how it seemed to have a never ending well of power. The guitars soared and had such a crisp sound to the riffs and the drums carried that resonance with a crashing force. To top it all off, Adam D's background vox is fucking amazing. The part around 1:54-2:05 where he does back-up for Howard is haunting. I hold KSE with Howard in such high regard when it comes to my introduction into this music still to this day.

+Dominick Ferrara a much smaller band. KSE with Howard was huge. Selling out massive venues. DYK plays small shows in little venues and that's all he ever wanted. The fame and thousands of people were killing him. Poor guy.
Man I want this song to be the anthem of my life. I have Asperger’s syndrome and this hits HARD. “Imprisoned inside this mind.” “The echoes of my voice follow me down.” and “Running, always running into the distance.” Are all exactly what i feel and say to myself sometimes. I get through it though. I’m trying to use it as an asset instead of a detriment in my life. That strategy has been working so far. Thank you Killswitch Engage for making a song that talks about wanting to try and atone from your past mistakes and do better. This is amazing. Truly, thank you guys.
Alive or Just Breathing, The End of Heartache and THIS ALBUM, As Daylight Dies, soo underated, people forgot about this, arms of sorrow, still gives me chills. My curse, break the silence. The whole album is clutch.
AoJB is still my favorite by these guys but As Daylight Dies is definitely my second-favorite. It's almost as if the band was aiming at making it a sequel to AoJB, because a lot of the material has similar structuring, but adds a different feel to it with Howard's vocals.
I love both Howard and Jesse. They each contributed something unique during their respective times with the band. And besides - KSE kicks ass whoever is doing vocals - sheesh.
One of the best vocal frontend to date. Never off my playlist. Seen several times with Howard. Now my 9yr old loves Killswitch Engage. Defo a reunion needed
So many years has passed and i still getting tears in my eyes for every time that i hear this song... A combinatiin of a very powerful voice and very powerful words that penetrate the stomach straight into the heart!
I am congratulating you. I thought the reason for your comment was to brag about liking Howard more then Jesse. So I said "good for you", Because really no one gives a fuck.
i remember when i listened killswitch engage long tim ago with so much passion, after some years I listen this and I keep saying, this dudes have my ears and soul for the rest of my life. vocalist's voice is magical
I don’t know what it means to you but 10 years ago I was imprisoned and hiding behind everything. The arms of sorrow held me for a long time. Now in 2020 I can hear this song with no sorrows left in my heart, and I’m feeling good and redeemed.
The lyrics are about depression, the man is jumping because of his sorrow, but others can interpret it as jumping to save himself from the fire. However I believe that the fire is a representation of his sorrow, and he's trying to escape it. Some of the apartment occupants may also represent his sorrow, with the girlfriend slapping her boyfriend symbolizing a broken relationship and the jump rope hitting his foot representing imperfection.
I’m glad someone analyzed the video... it also looks like the... symbolic persona jumping off the building decided it wanted to live after all, on the way down.. and ultimately climbed out of the water.
I will forever love this song. I can't explain how many times I've sunk and gotten back up with heartfelt songs such as this. Forever a Killswitch fan.
Adam's guitar work is unparalleled in memorability and beauty. I don't even have to mention Howard's skill, but I will. My heart can't handle the passion and power from his delivery. This song is immaculate.
I remember seeing this video for the first time. I was like "WTF? Laurence Fishburne sings in a fkin awesome metal band?" :D Great vocals. Howard is just great!
i saw these guys live with my buddy, he threw his company hat on stage and howard put it on, just goes to show how grateful these guys are of their fans
I just recently discovered your music. I fucking love it. I'm an old metal head, just was never into the growling and stuff until now. I find your music to be completely badass, beautiful and positive. I also found that when I'm having a bad night of PTSD, it's been your music that has been looping in my head, replacing what's usually there. That has brought me peace. Thankyou so fucking much KSE. I hope that maybe someday you read this and know that you helped someone with your music.
No matter how many metalcore albums and band i discover and enjoy, killswitch engage will hold the title of "best metalcore band ever" for me till the end of eternity.
STILL LOVING IT in August 2024. I always remember when Jesse left and Howard showed up. I felt sorry because Howie's voice looked kinda another band.. But later, i fell in love with Howie's voice and missed him so much when he left. His voice got such a new breathe for KSE that we'll never forget. He's one of those voices nobody has equal. THANKS Howard and KSE for so many unforgettable anthems like this one. Still enjoying Jesse's but will always love Howard's

This whole album is just amazing, and the great vocal of Howard is one of the most impotant in it, this whole album is a musical adventure, they put some songs together in a very clever way to play with your different emotions. Sometimes you feel empowered, sometimes you feel depressed then saved and embraced in the next part.

Its 2021, still listening to this and still missing Howard!!!!! He truly has an amazing voice and one that KSE needs to get back!!!!!
I can totally relate to this song. These guys kill it. Been a fan of killswitch for a long time. never gets old
This album has aged so well.
This comment is beautiful brotha. Definitely not getting enough attention. Someone has atoned for your past mistakes. Take comfort in that.
Legendary song
The voice of Adam is just... That make me dream. Really amazing ! His voice is just perfect with Howard voice !
Couldn't agree with you more. Adam has one of the most amazing voices. Obviously Howard does too but Adam is underrated.
Alive or Just Breathing, The End of Heartache and THIS ALBUM, As Daylight Dies, soo underated, people forgot about this, arms of sorrow, still gives me chills. My curse, break the silence. The whole album is clutch.
hellll ya
Agreed
Amen jesse is a beast.
AoJB is still my favorite by these guys but As Daylight Dies is definitely my second-favorite. It's almost as if the band was aiming at making it a sequel to AoJB, because a lot of the material has similar structuring, but adds a different feel to it with Howard's vocals.
It is in my honest opinion that no KsE album will ever touch "As Daylight Dies."
I love both Howard and Jesse. They each contributed something unique during their respective times with the band. And besides - KSE kicks ass whoever is doing vocals - sheesh.
Yeah, as long as its one of them
One of the best vocal frontend to date. Never off my playlist. Seen several times with Howard. Now my 9yr old loves Killswitch Engage. Defo a reunion needed
So many years has passed and i still getting tears in my eyes for every time that i hear this song... A combinatiin of a very powerful voice and very powerful words that penetrate the stomach straight into the heart!
i feel you
2024, KILLSWITCH!!!!!! We miss you Howard
Light the Torch is awesome. You checked them out? w/ Howard
Nah. We glad Jesse is back 🤘
@@deathmagneto-soynah we not. Howard is better but I like Jesse too. He writes good lyrics.
If u want to listen to Howard now, look up Light the Torch. That’s his new band
Just for the people who didn’t know
I knew that voice sounded familiar
His band after KSE was pretty good too. Devil You Know
@@thedankone4737 Quick question. Isn't Light The Torch the same band as Devil You Know, just under a different name or am I wrong?
MasterWithEyesOfBlue333 nope you’re right
You fucking legend!
The End of 2021 and this song still smacks.............."deeper I'm falling"
I miss Howard.. i only listen to kse songs sang by him
GOOD FOR YOU!
Alchemic Overdrive Whats your reason for this comment?
I am congratulating you. I thought the reason for your comment was to brag about liking Howard more then Jesse. So I said "good for you", Because really no one gives a fuck.
Auxi Vigil you're*
Oscar Nilsson do you think YOUR funny or something? Didnt realize people still have no lives and do this
i remember when i listened killswitch engage long tim ago with so much passion, after some years I listen this and I keep saying, this dudes have my ears and soul for the rest of my life. vocalist's voice is magical
I don’t know what it means to you but 10 years ago I was imprisoned and hiding behind everything. The arms of sorrow held me for a long time. Now in 2020 I can hear this song with no sorrows left in my heart, and I’m feeling good and redeemed.
thats cute uugh
And normies still think metal is just a worthless noise....damn
This will forever be a masterpiece
certified classic
The lyrics are about depression, the man is jumping because of his sorrow, but others can interpret it as jumping to save himself from the fire. However I believe that the fire is a representation of his sorrow, and he's trying to escape it. Some of the apartment occupants may also represent his sorrow, with the girlfriend slapping her boyfriend symbolizing a broken relationship and the jump rope hitting his foot representing imperfection.
what about the old dude cutting the wood out of the window. maybe not knowing what he's doing?
The old dude is his boyfriend.
ew
I’m glad someone analyzed the video... it also looks like the... symbolic persona jumping off the building decided it wanted to live after all, on the way down.. and ultimately climbed out of the water.
One of the best songs KsE made! So many memories to this song, they all come back as if I'm right there again. Badass!
I will forever love this song. I can't explain how many times I've sunk and gotten back up with heartfelt songs such as this. Forever a Killswitch fan.
Damn. This still holds up over a decade later. Timeless KSE & quintessential melodic metal
Still listening in July 2019 untill forever Love Howards voice
This is very real old school metalcore we ever listen back in the mid or late 2000s!
Quite possibly top 5 most beautiful metal song ever written. The melody and vocals mixing with everything is, simply put, amazing.
This is probably Howard’s best performance imo! Such a beautiful song!
My 2 and 3 year old daughter stop whatever they doing whenever I tune this song up and headbang while lip syncing 🤘🖤 thank u KSE
That is so awesome!
I introduced this to a black coworker. He was speechless. These guys are awesome. I wished they would get the recognition they deserve
I wish they would take Howard back
Introduce them to Sevendust now
" you're black right? check this out!!"
@@larry90944 Shut up "Ricky"
@@larry90944 haha
Life was simple these days. Wish I could go back to the days riding home from school on a Friday with this in my headphones.
Agree
Adam's guitar work is unparalleled in memorability and beauty. I don't even have to mention Howard's skill, but I will. My heart can't handle the passion and power from his delivery. This song is immaculate.
I remember seeing this video for the first time. I was like "WTF? Laurence Fishburne sings in a fkin awesome metal band?" :D
Great vocals. Howard is just great!
😂😂😂
+Patrick Brown XD XD XD
i saw these guys live with my buddy, he threw his company hat on stage and howard put it on, just goes to show how grateful these guys are of their fans
stark1987 must have been one awesome experience
Now I just want to see Howard dressed like Morpheus xD
That voice!!!. LOVE, LOVE this song....as well as their new one, "Can't Be The Only One." Such a great band.
this song is so beautiful it makes me cry for some reason
I just recently discovered your music. I fucking love it. I'm an old metal head, just was never into the growling and stuff until now.
I find your music to be completely badass, beautiful and positive.
I also found that when I'm having a bad night of PTSD, it's been your music that has been looping in my head, replacing what's usually there. That has brought me peace.
Thankyou so fucking much KSE.
I hope that maybe someday you read this and know that you helped someone with your music.
The nostalgia listening to this song again after awhile is real 🙌🏽 Killswitch engage is amazing loved their music for years 😌
No matter how many metalcore albums and band i discover and enjoy, killswitch engage will hold the title of "best metalcore band ever" for me till the end of eternity.
Your music is heaven
STILL LOVING IT in August 2024. I always remember when Jesse left and Howard showed up. I felt sorry because Howie's voice looked kinda another band.. But later, i fell in love with Howie's voice and missed him so much when he left. His voice got such a new breathe for KSE that we'll never forget. He's one of those voices nobody has equal. THANKS Howard and KSE for so many unforgettable anthems like this one. Still enjoying Jesse's but will always love Howard's
Tremendo vocalista.
Me Gusta
lyric:
Imprisoned, inside this mind
Hiding behind the empty smiles
So simple (the anguish)
As it mocks me
Crawling back into the dark
Running, always running, into the distance
Stop me before I bleed, again
The echoes of my voice
Follow me down
The shadows I cast
Follow me down
(Deeper I'm falling)
Into the arms of sorrow
(Blindly descending)
Into the arms of sorrow
There must be serenity
The echoes of my voice (the echoes of my voice)
Follow me down
The shadows I cast (the shadows I cast)
Follow me down
(Deeper I'm falling)
Into the arms of sorrow
(Blindly descending)
Into the arms of sorrow
The demons of my own design
This horror must not remain
(Deeper I'm falling)
Into the arms of sorrow
(Blindly descending)
Into the arms of sorrow
There must be serenity
There must be deliverance
(Deeper I'm falling)
(Blindly descending)

Ladies and gentlemen, this was the song that got me hooked to this band. Jessie has the emotion behind the song but Howard has the voice. Cant wait for their upcoming song together
I thank God for the the incredible musicianship and lyricism of this band. It has and continues to get me through so much
KsE is fucking awesome.howard or jesse it doesn't matter to me,they are both great.they both have there strengths vocally.lyrically is whats more important to me and they both grab me by my fucking soul.I Love this band.
Do u imagine KSE with both... Howard at clean vocals and Jessie Screaming?? MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!
check out the album The End Of Heartache
It's happening on their new album
Howard’s screams and cleans are better
@@PlanetCrypto-o6w Jesse is a far better screamer live, Howard is far better at clean.
Killswitch Engage - Signal Fire. You're welcome.
Had to deal 20 years with depression... made it out thankfully, but always use this song to explain others how depression feels like.
Thank you @HowardJones
Du hast mir eine schwierigen Momente im Leben verschönert mit deiner tiefen, einigartigen und emotionalen Stimme.
Still my favorite Killswitch song, just a pure masterpiece.
Never gets old! Amazing melodic masterpiece. I could listen to the outro for all eternity
Killswitch is a metal band with emotion, unique riffs & those goddamn cleans !!
My dad showed me this band and told me to listen to this album this was the first song I played I think of it as our song now just singing and driving around to it it’s truly a great song every time I listen to it I smile it reminds me of him
This was my MySpace song.

It was my Bebo song haha
Good one boomer 😁
Hahaha good choice. Mine was stay captive by still remains
What the frick is a myspace
The Power in Howard's voice can not be replicated. He is truly one of the best Metalcore Vocalists
Howard's clean singing sounds good, I love it.
Been hearing this song since I was 7 years old. Now I am 23, and still get the same chills every time. Masterpiece of a song. ❤️
Such a powerful song. I love the ending, so intense and moving.

Great voice Howard love this band and music, my parents dont but I love them :)
"There must be deliverance" massive goosebumps that feel well-earned
Where it all began for me. I didnt even realize he was a replacement and then I heard Jesse, then came The Signal Fire. I'm so happy to have gotten into this band.
He has like the best vocals, wish he could come back, but then again all great bands are mostly great for a period and remembered for it
This whole album is just amazing, and the great vocal of Howard is one of the most impotant in it, this whole album is a musical adventure, they put some songs together in a very clever way to play with your different emotions. Sometimes you feel empowered, sometimes you feel depressed then saved and embraced in the next part.
