    Paul Howe carries a G26 AIWB all the time. For clarification, it was Hackathorn.

    My local sheriff's department held a 36 hour course to become a reserve deputy so I signed up. Man was I unprepared. I learned a lot, got shot a lot with simunition and bags but ultimately I learned how to adapt and overcome situations. I thought we were just going to do some range shooting and maybe some drills..lol Force on force, knife training, hand to hand, grappling and shoot house. It was expensive and exhausting but it was worth it.

    When I started carrying in the 'Appendix" position in the mid 90's it was called or referred to as the "Felony" carry because it was how all the baggy closed thugs carried.

      I saw the whole appendix carry discussion he did with Paul Howe and I'm pretty sure he said that the reason he didn't allow it in his class was because of liability reasons. I think in another video he even admitted that he carried his Colt Commander like that in the beginning but switched to strong side because it was more comfortable.

    I think there point was - if you get a ND with appendix -the impact would not be good - mainly femoral arteries - not just the junk. Other, positions on the belt are less dangerous from a ND perspective. Appendix is likely better from a draw and comfort view.

    Yes sir. As an older guy myself 59. I was reluctant to go to appendix carry. I wouldn't allow my son's to do it. I actually ended up winning a Vedder AIWB and changed my view after a few days of dry fire. Now I still prefer 3:00 for comfort but, if the weather is warm I am appendix. Like you said take your time and look it in the holster and you should make it out of the world with the boys still healthy😂

    Risk vs. Reward. Am I more likely to be in a gunfight or more likely to shoot myself in the nether region? Only you can decide that. I'm 58 and have gone back to Double/Single action with Appendix carry. From the 80's until recently, I carried 3 or 3:30 with a 1911, Beretta, Sig or Glock.

    I was having a conversation with a friend who is also a trainer and he brought up a good point.
    -
    With the number of people carrying today, how do we navigate the potential for friendly fire?
    -
    Example scenario:
    You're in QT getting a hotdog from the roller grill. As you are placing the hotdog on the bun, you hear someone yell "MONEY" extremely loud over your left shoulder.
    As you turn to the left and look towards the cash registers where the words came from, you see a white male with a white oversized T-shirt, black jeans, and a medical mask fire two rounds from a handgun. The first round is fired up at the ceiling, and the second round is fired directly over the cashier's shoulder.
    At this point, you decide to engage the threat, drawing, and engaging the target with a clean four rounds into the center mass until you see him drop out of your sight picture.
    After the threat is down, you approach him on the ground, with your firearm covering him.
    Next thing you know, you are shot multiple times in the chest, and you are falling to the ground. That's the last thing you remember.
    You see, there was another concealed carry permit holder that shoots twice a year. His witness statement was this:
    "I was walking in the west entrance of QT when I heard someone yell "MONEY" near the registers. As I rounded the corner, I heard six shots fired and observed (insert your description here) approaching another man who was already on the ground bleeding. I engaged the threat and neutralized him for my and everyone around mess safety.
    -
    At the end of the day, no one knows that you are the good guy, except you... until after the investigation is completed. In the event of a self-defense shooting, maneuvering with the gun drawn in the scenario I wrote above made you look like the imminent threat.
    -
    Thoughts?

    • @paraAA82
      @paraAA82 5 місяців тому +1

      A little bit confusing description of an hypothetical scenario. But I would run in the opposite direction because I DO NOT HAVE ANY LEGAL OBLIGATION TO STOP AN ARMED ROBBERY in progress. I am not a cop, so, I am not intervening in a third party incident. But that is my opinion and my opinion alone. To each their own.

      This most definitely falls into the category of "paralysis by analysis" and the "What if Brigade" ... make the best decision you can for the situation you're in.

    • @isaudy
      @isaudy 4 місяці тому

      I would too. But swap this incident with any other.
      -
      incident to use lethal force is presented. Individual B shoots individual A for a lawful/justified purpose. Individual C (not being a prudent person who should seek cover and mind his business) goes to investigate the shooting and finds individual B with a firearm standing over individual A. Believed imminent danger to individual A is present and decides to shoot individual B (the good guy in this scenario)
      -
      What steps can be taken to avoid being shot by individual C if you’re individual B.

    • @isaudy
      @isaudy 4 місяці тому

      A hypothetical question in the equivalent of a classroom environment, as far removed from danger and need for real time action, isn’t analysis paralysis. It’s food for thought and potentially removes an unforeseen threat from our blind spots. A threat even UC or off duty cops should be aware of as more CCWs enter society.

      I carry a full size M&P with supressor height sights outside the waistband strongside. There's no way I could carry that appendix. These little guns everyone is carrying these days are inadequate for self defense. Sure, a one on one encounter and the guy is within 20 feet might be ok, but if I have to really fight with my pistol until law enforcement arrives I want a full size gun with a full fighting ammo payload in that gun. Taking force on force training with law enforcement will show you just how inadequate this little guns are.

      The mention of "his class" was an afterthought. His opinion is that if you use appendix carry, you are fool. I disagree 100% and think someone limiting real world carry options in his "artificial time capsule class" is foolish.
      Moreover, a man who is so fat that cannot see his own man parts has far more dire problems than defending himself from a thug in a parking lot, ie., diabetes, heart disease, etc.
      If I had such a student I would not be doing a video at the gym. It would be a video of us walking through the supermarket and I telling him what to eat and how much, as well as what not to eat. Then part two would be us at the gym. Problem One is the life fight. Problem two is the gun fight.

      I have been teaching appendix carry for some 20 years now.
      If you are a numbskull, don't carry anything anywhere. 4 unskilled clowns shooting themselves doesn't tell me anything.
      Moreover, I do not wish to use the actions of unskilled clowns to govern how I carry, teach how to carry, nor what I eat, how or what I drive, nor anything else. Other positions on the belt are therefore less risky in case of a ND. Having said that - I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer to this - it’s just a matter of risk management- are you willing to accept greater risk of a ND that impacts your body in return for a faster draw and more comfort? the problem in getting guys together for class is guys have a tendency to want to look faster then the guy next to them ''performance anxiety'' they must block this out of their mind and this worship of timers and emphasis on speed many think is the only thing, for my draws I am faster with 2 o clock possition because of my quick draw feature I use in my draw, my love for the snub video shows steps I do for speed many don't think about and I show in the demonstration video what works for me 1.) 2 o clock possition 2.) have a 1 inch gap around grip 3) have a light weight gun and short barrel because it's faster out of holster 4.) have clothing travel so it's a short distance 5.) have a grip good enough to fit hand being a almost perfect grip every time you reach for gun 6.) draw one handed so thatbin you need other hand to block, go for knife or get someone to safety the right hand is not dependent on left hand to complete a grip but only for support, martial arts with left hand is possible if right hand has no time for left hand in a very close quarter defense situation 7.) smaller gun is harder to grab or take out of battery then a bigvoptic ready semi auto where someone can grab gun slide but these day more to grab because of optics, so optics does have disadvantages for every advantage. with all guns, calibers, accessories, holsters, capacity it's yin and yang in principle, for every advantage there is a disadvantage just as yin and yang symbol is light and dark, no one ever is going to have all the advantages and none of the disadvantages, the proof is UFC fighting, not one fighting style dominates, it's how good you are with your skill sets and becoming one with the gun, you could hand out 10 22 lr pistols and 10 9 mm pistols and have different defence results dependent on the operator of the gun and how they employ those tactics of what they been taught and their mind set, same with revolvers vs semi autos, it's how your situational awareness, your tactics and skill sets you practice that determin the win the final outcome. training is learning fundamentals, practice is to act on what's learned, you train how to drive a car carefully and right and every day you practice by driving car so that's the diffence between training and practice many over complicate but its a easy concept

      Shit happens. A wound to an arm or leg can be treated easily by anyone. A wound in the pelvic girdle requires a surgeon to treat at a trauma center in a very short amount of time.

    • @josh885
      @josh885 27 днів тому

      A. A gun in a holster isn't pointed at anything a gun has to be in your hand to be pointed. Further if the holster is a proper one the gun is rendered totally safe because it's impossible for it to fire unless you are burning alive and it cooks off.
      B. Every method of carry has the muzzle orientated toward your body or someone else's in certain body positions. By your standard carrying a gun is impossible.
      C. If you point a gun at yourself while holstering or drawing that is a trianing issue and not one unique to aiwb carrying.

    • @eternalmercenary463
      @eternalmercenary463 26 днів тому

      @josh885
      You contradict yourself on B and C. Basically, you say it's impossible to carry a gun without pointing the muzzle at someone or yourself, and in C, you say it is possible, but it's a training issue...??
      Ok, let me explain what I said again.
      SHIT HAPPENS...do you understand what that means? In this case, it means firearms are unintentionally discharged every day. As a matter of fact, it happens on average 27,000 times a year in this country where a wound or a death is the result. Not all of them are during the draw or holstering, but you get the point. When shit happens, it doesn't consider training level, age, or even holster quality...it just happens.
      All I'm saying is, if it ever "happens" to me, I don't want to inflict a wound that requires a trauma surgeon because it's in the pelvic girdle. That's me. I don't care where you carry.
