  • Some old guard types were recently ridiculing those of of us who use optics on or carry guns. Here is my rebuttal to that. Its not 1980 any more.

    Definitely on point in all aspects.
    I have carried a G19 for 30 years-first in the military in 5th Grp,then as a Trooper-now,in the past year,I’m running the same but with an RMR and an X300T.What a diff!Aging is a bitch,but these made a a world of difference!
    Just recently-as of a month ago,I was in Starbucks and I saw 3 deps from Essex county Sheriffs Dept and they were all running G45’s with RMRs and Surefire weapon lights.They told me they have seen huge differences in qualifications and they’re pleased.

    100% on point Gabe, Ken has my greatest and deepest respect. Sadly, I had to come to terms with optics on handguns. I'm 63 now and long in the tooth, my eyes are progressively diminishing for rapid focus (longer to get focused on the iron sights). I was extremely resistant to switching to optics and progressively began introducing them over a period of the last three years to my handguns. I'm now achieving the success with them I desire and the results required. I have to admit the optic has allowed me to reach out there with greater accuracy at distance. The optics are simply amazing and a game changer...I must admit. My Browning Hi-power carry pistol has an optic on it now, and I know I can make that extreme long shot (relative to handgun) as well as in close as always. I can stretch my personal limits and ensure that shot on the threat

    Ken's correct....too much of a learning curve, batteries that fail, optics that fog and collect dirt, glare, bulky to conceal and carry. If it ain't broke- don't fix it. Pistol/handgun Irons still work for ME 100% of the time - when I do my part! YMMV. Shoot what you want.

    Ive been carrying a G19 since 93. I have a total of three, and all Gen3s. All of them have been to Jagerwerks for optics cuts. I could live back in 93, and still use the irons, but my eyes aren’t 1993 eyes. I dont own a car with a carburetor, i dont have a dial phone on my wall, i dont have a giant TV that weighs 200lbs. Ill bet yall have modernized all of those……

    Outstanding stuff, Gabe. Learning a lot here! I have owned a P-01 for a few years now and am finally getting around to doing a bit of a build on it (your CZ videos have definitely inspired me!). I have a limited budget at the moment, so for now, I'm going to put Lok grips on it, install some better sights, and "moderately Cajunize" it with a trigger kit and an extended firing pin. I'll eventually get the slide milled for an optic, but I noticed on your SP-01 here that your irons with the vertical dot alignment look like they could be the Trijicon ones that CZ Custom sells on their site? I've actually been looking at those since I'm a fan of the Ameriglo i-Dot sights, but Ameriglo doesn't currently make them for the 75 series pistols.

    I think people need to understand something. Yes, you can be capable without a dot...I can make hits at 50-100yds with irons, and I can make relatively quick hits out to 30yds with irons, but I can do all of that faster and more easily with irons. As for up close, if you are shooting properly, you will not find the dot slowing you down.

    red dots are great however the learning curve is steep they are not for everyone, shooting uspsa for a while i have no issues ripping a plate rake at 30 yards with irons or red dots to dots are quicker at distance however dot management is real and adding failure points and clutter to a life saving tools maybe something you want to do. train with both how ever kens point of view reid henrichs point paul howe are all spot on.

    Anytime you use a new sighting system, give yourself at least 3 range sessions to get use to it. When I put XS Big Dots on a pistol I was feeling like I had wasted money. The third time at the range I was nailing it and thought about putting them on all my guns.
    Going to a training class is different. You should adapt during the class because it is all day and you have an instructor guiding you.

    I have two firearms with red dots. They would have been nice when I was a street cop when doing felony car stops. We didn't even have mounted weapon lights in my day. Don't see much value in the most likely self defense scenario. Shooting across a food court? Red dot would be helpful. Truth be told, I still frequently carry a J frame because of familiarity. I confess! I will carry a full size when going into areas with a higher threat assessment.

    • @Osprey1994

      Scott Jedlinski is probably the premier instructor in regards to red dots. He explained the advantages well, and he explained how to use the optic when you're in close. But the reality is, that the optic is an advantage. You take a Master level shooter and above, let them run a course with a gun that has an optic, and the same gun without an optic, and they will run it faster with an optic.

    • @paraAA82
      @paraAA82 5 місяців тому

      @@Osprey1994 very well said. The problem as I see it, and is my opinion only is that not everybody is quote:”Master level” shooter. Red dots in pistols are a nice option, but they are not a must have. if a red dot makes you hit your target more easily and accurately, by all means go for it. To each their own. I don’t have anything against red dots in pistols. But in my humble, uneducated, unsophisticated and definitely not at a master level shooter, at ten yards and closer, a red dot is not better than irons, but that is my opinion and my opinion alone.
