If you put the orange in the microwave for 30 seconds or so, it really loosens the juice.
Draining and freezing the tofu first, then thawing shifts the texture closer to chicken, and you can get more flavor in as well.
(The ice crystals expand the tofu and make bigger holes for flavor to get in)

This recipe is amazing! I was one of those people who did not like tofu, even though I wanted to like tofu. So this recipe was actually a last ditch effort for me to like tofu and guess what- I do like tofu now!

I HATED tofu when I went vegan. 2 years later, I like it. Lol. And I wasn't eating it all the time. I only ate it a handful of times but suddenly one day it changed.

I made this tonight using brown rice, broccoli and julienned red peppers. After making the sauce I put the rice and veg together in the sauce. First I baked the battered tofu in the oven and finished it in the air fryer. My meat eating husband loved it!!!! 🥰

I made this for lunch today, exactly as the recipe described. Absolutely delicious. I bet the leftovers will be even tastier. One warning: if you don’t eat a lot of salt, maybe skip some of the soy sauce. Also, just the fried tofu was delicious.

Tofu is great as long as it's from chickpeas or pumpkin. I keep soy consumption to a bare minimum‼️ thanks for the recipe❗️

Last night I made this dish. Large block of Firm Tofu, some Orange and a Lemon, Soy, ginger, garlic ,sesame, vinegar and brown sugar, corn flour. So easy!
My mum, the food snob, LOVED IT.

Quick question have you ever tried oyster mushrooms as a replacement.
i have! not making it personally but from a restaurant. It's a really great option if you know what you're doing. I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms because the texture is like weird to me. But the way that restaurant did it the texture didn't bother me as much.
So my husband loves takeout orange chicken - so why haven't I made it for us using tofu or soy curls??? Let's talk white pepper. Had it in my spice drawer forever, but never used it because I don't like black pepper....... Finally tried it and I love it - a little kick without the black pepper flavor, it has it's own profile. So now I use it quite a bit - subtle, but really nice.
gotta make the hubs this takeout option! agreed on the white pepper too. its a nice approach when looking to avoid the strong flavoring from the black peppercorns 😊

I ordered a T-fal skillet, but the pkging stressed that only low-medium heat was ok, lest something unpleasant occurs. Sending it home to Amazon. Looks like you’re not scared, though!

Thanks for sharing! Not sure if they provide temp recommendation for what low - medium heat mean? The highest my stainless steel pan normally gets would be 300 to 350°F. Most of the time when you're cooking on the stove, you won't really go above that. Medium heat requirements should be between 300 to 400°F. I have had no issues with mine. Hopefully this helps!
If you don't like tofu, cook it in an air fryer... It's a complete game changer! I would specifically buy an air fryer just for this purpose 😅
Finally tried Tofu. The way my wife made it, it tasted like chicken.

i'd imagine tempeh would be fine to use as a substitute, unless it's specifically soy you're trying to avoid. in that case you could try making this with seitan, which is made from wheat.

i typically try to provide options to sub out in the speaking part of the video. if you missed it, the options i suggested were:
- cauliflower
- seitan
- store bought plant based chicken sub
i didnt say this but even chickpeas would work.
If I get too much soy I have allergy attacks. Got a sub for Tofu?
I remember Derek Simnett made tofu sub with lentils, and I think chickpeas 😊

Tofu makes my stomach hurt.
Don't get it. Marinade only stays on the outside, so you are still eating big disgusting bland squishy pieces of tofu which taste of tofu. The internet is filled with recipes which will 'make you love tofu' and none of them work!
