@@JacquesMesrine94 No one understood that this movie was a parody of standalone action hero movies…..at the time. So it’s considered underrated because to this day it’s a cult classic. Unlike a lot of the Action hero movies that it was parodying
Yeah with how thirsty Hollywood is to shove in cinematic universes like the mcu or universal monsters on top of “subversion writing” or cliches this film would have done great if it cameout today unless a woke producer got there hands on it like James Camero.n.
Only this entrance is part badass and part spoof. This movie is self-aware before self-aware movies became a thing - Scream (1995) was the first success one.
Arnold's entrance in this movie is one the best and hardest entrances of a protagonist in action movie history (IMO). The music and the stomping on police hoods gives me chills everytime I watch this. Big props to whomever's idea this was
Movie is a legit meta-masterpiece that is decades ahead of its time, including Buckethead on guitar with an absolutely awesome nuanced piece of playing. Love this movie.
This opening is a blueprint for how the Expendables movies should have been. They tried to be a little to "real", they should have been hyperaware parodies played straight, like this scene.
Honestly, I would have loved to see one of the Jack Slater movies; even this one. Go the ‘Star Wars’ route and start us off with Jack Slater III or IV, even if it has no prequels or sequels and its only cinematic connection is to ‘Last Action Hero.’ I always thought the ‘Hamlet’ Danny imagined would have been enjoyable, as well. Had they been made with that same hyperaware, straight laced attitude you mentioned, I think they would have been a lot of fun.
I think those movies just have lousy, dry scripts. Stallone, Schwarzenegger, and Willis didn't just kick asses back in the day, they had catchphrases and one-liners to accompany them. 'The Expendables' movies just don't have the wit.
In T1 he was 38, he looks 10 years younger there. The crazy part is it's not like he avoided the sun either, constantly camped out on muscle beach or working outside as a bricklayer. He also smoked cigars like a chimney.
How ironic is it that Jack walking across the tops of cop cars to make an entrance is supposed to be over the top in a parodical sense, but is still really badass.
I don't want a sequel for "Last Action Hero" because It's great single movie on its own...but I always wanted to watch "Jack Slater" franchise spin offs. It looked far better movie than shitty action movies in those days.

This movie was so ahead of its time. It's such a pity how utterly misunderstood this movie was back in 1993. Most people simply didn't understand that it was a parody of the genre. And a very clever one at that.
A lot of people didn't really "get" this movie and the humour when it came out. People were just expecting another Schwarzenegger movie. It was definetly a super unique idea at the time. My 10 year old self did not understand that this was supposed to also be funny. Just thought it was legitimately badass. But by then I had seen so many Schwarzenegger flicks the dude's status was mythological at that point so nothing he did seemed out of the realm of possibility or reality.
What cracks me up the most is Slater's comment to Dekker "Dekker, next one I hurt" If suckerpunching the lieutenant governor in the nose, and kicking an officer in the gonads isn't Slaters term of "hurt" I can't begin to imagine what he'd do to the next officer he sees

The coolest thing about this opening is that Jack Slater is unstoppable, like he’s some kind of terminator or something.
