Coming back to this video about a month later after implementing these tips. My chipping and pitching has improved by 10x. Almost always good contact and direction. Feels so easy and confident now. Thanks so much!
I took up golf late in life...now age 70...started playing senior tournaments at age 50 and won a fair number of them....secret for me was the short game...no one hits green all the time, and the remarks from a good many of my competitors was your short game is amazing! My practice time was limited and probably 75% was spent on pitching and chipping. In my opinion, everything you guys said is absolutely spot on. For chipping, my thought was to play it off the back foot depending on the lie...if the lie was poor and on more bare type ground or in a hole, play it further back off the ankle...comes out low and allow for the roll. Going forward for short pitches, my thought was to have the hands lead and then extend the club face as if you could set a glass on it out front...biggest thing I watched others do was decelerate on the way and chunk it or get the hands back and skull it.......Also, the closer to the green, the less loft....ie, chipping with a 7 iron instead of a sand wedge
gents...been following Tom for a few weeks now...I did write you a comment abt week ago...this video was just brilliant...I knocked 4 shots off my scorecard on sunday using this set up...2 months ago score avg was 92...96....currently 82...86...keep it coming

The best chipping lesson of a multitude that I've seen. Something that works great for me as an engine of the pivot, is imagining the lead side pec moving through 2 points, on a swing plane arc, in front of the body. A few practice swings will give a feel, for the shape and required amplitude, of the swing for a specific shot.
Maybe it’s a Language thing, but y’all’s tips, more than Rick Shiels, Peter Finch, and their crew; have drastically improved my game in no time. Things like “chest down to find the ground”, and left arm straight to right shoulder- have way improved my game. I’m excited to see how these chip tips will help me next round. Keep it simple, and keep it up gentlemen. I tell all my friends about y’all. Big 👍
Thanks!! I'm glad our "simplified" instruction is resonating well with you and your game, and we sincerely appreciate your kind words as well as your support in sharing this with others!!
I don't understand one thing about your instructions I have been trying to follow your every word however you never mentioned that the right arm can completely destroy every swing you never mentioned that the left arm other than being kept straight is really incomplete control of every golf swing
Hi Tom, I cannot thank you enough!!!! I Have been watching your videos and you have help me to improve my golf game, today I shot 86 I tried really hard to shoot my age, but maybe next time. I am 83 years old and love the game of golf and love your lessons.EVE D.J.

Most comprehensive chipping information I've ever heard...watched Payne Stewart chip as you describe North view Canada years ago..he also described his Seymore putter in his great southern drawl...real regular gut. Dennis
I'm glad to know that this chipping lesson with Eric resonated with you, Dennis!! And thank you so much for your very kind words and the comparison to the great Payne Stewart!! Tom
I'm very glad to know that this chipping lesson resonated with you, Glen, and I hope it delivers crispy greenside consistency when you incorporate it into your stroke! As for the sideburns, that was likely a once and done phase. The women have spoken....😆
You guys rock, thanks for this great tip. I've been struggling with chipping at this really helped correct my setup. The head bumping forward slightly helps keep the low point after contact. Good stuff.

Thank you, I needed this ! Totally different tip from Mickelson dvd where he says you should work with the wrists, but this tips makes me more confortable. And the intro, the sword at 8:35 and the outro made me laugh really loud !
We need to develop a short game system that works best for each of us personally, Fred. @@SagutoGolf thank you for your answer, and please accept my apology for using only the free content you offer, I wish I could afford a subscription to get your online coaching. You two guys!!! I love to see you in these clips. What would be fun to watch is a relaxed match play between the two of you. Come on, book a tee time now!!!
Excellent instruction you guys. I have an addendum to what you say,,,,,look at the front of ball not the back of the ball. That will assure you will hit the ball first, if you have your weight forward and head centered.
Nice suggestion, Rene! We must all build in our own unique "feels" to find what works best for ourselves individually, and part of that includes where our eyes are focused. This will vary from golfer to golfer. Thanks! Tom
Tom, I watched a few (dozen) of your UA-cam videos and all I can say is Thank You! Your instruction is by far the easiest to understand and correlate to a "feel" in my swing. I went from a 113 to a 106 to a 95, in 3 rounds after your tips obviously not impressive yet but I had no choice but to join your school. I look extremely forward to improving more and playing my best golf! Thanks again!
This video changed my life. Short game on a new level. All my buddies want to know where I learned to chip like this. I had two chip ins on my last round and plenty of 1 putts due to being inside of 6' after a chip.
Awesome!! Excellent job incorporating this lesson into your chipping stroke and then putting it into play so effectively. Thanks for sharing your success and keep up the great work!! Tom
My driving and iron shots have improved greatly this year but chipping is still my weak area. Too many chunks and blading going on. This is just the vid I needed to see before heading out on the course tomorrow. Thanks to you both.
@@SagutoGolf I know. Im in there. It's sure nice though when you are striping it like Phil Mickelson, and the short game is not under too much pressure. Need some putting help on our next lesson. Everything is super dialed in but the putter. Allegedly, you can't just buy a new one to fix it, and the wheels still won't get on the track. Apparently, no one likes being fired? Cheers amigo
Man, I LOVE this video. I think at the end, you need to say "90 of 100 golfers need to work on chip shot techniques to improve their game, rather than knocking their driver all day at the range"! Excellent video my man! 👍⛳
Great video,I’m on this ,,,just suddenly started to shank chip shots ,,,any one part of video to really work on for that ? Thanks for all the kick ass lessons on here also , best guy on UA-cam 👊
I appreciate the kind words! The dreaded "S's" can be the result of a variety of actions: 1) You may be too steep on the downswing and thereby exposing the hosel to the ball; 2) Conversely, your downswing path may be too in to out; 3) You may be rolling the face open during the backswing; 4) The wrists may not be hinging properly (they should only hinge up and down, not side-to-side); 5) You are setting up with the ball positioned at the heel of the club; 6) More... I could keep going, but I just wanted to highlight the fact that I can't really diagnose the issue or present a fix without really knowing what is happening to cause your brand of hosel rockets! Tom & Eric (the head forward on backswing) another good feel is weight transferred to front foot as head moves slightly forward even on backswing and it looks like Eric does go onto front foot as head moves forward
Eric is setting up favoring his lead side 60/40, Tim, and he's never leaving it throughout the motion. As I say in one of my full swing lessons, "forward, forward, forward"! TS
Hi Tom, Loving the content. Loving the magic you and Eric bring. If it wasn’t for Eric I would never had heard of you. Huge thanks to Eric. I have subscribed to both of you. Can you maybe do a video on how to concentrate on the ball at impact? I look, look and look but when it matters I wasn’t looking. :-( I do the same at table tennis. I look where the ball ‘will’ be heading before i actually hit it and guess what the happens. it ain’t good! If anyone can handle this assignment its you!
We're glad you are enjoying our collaborative videos!! It sounds like you need to watch the previous episode featuring Eric's "head on the wall" feel. If you can execute that, then you should not have to worry about concentrating on the ball at impact: ua-cam.com/video/hNZy7re7VOY/v-deo.html I also recently released this "steady head" video - including a training aid - for my online school members ($10/month to have you playing your best golf in a simplified, body-friendly manner): ua-cam.com/video/fYc2Kr-tFd8/v-deo.html Cheers!! Tom
Good vid. Just like to add one small tip. Check the club in and after the follow trough. Club low, wrist staying staying stiff and the club pointing to the target.
Ken Ventury used the analogy back in the 1960 s golf digest of having your arms in a cast it keeps the club at the same angle and distance from your body giving you consistant strike. Now just keeping your left arm an wrist is found to be better.
Love your Videos. Wondering, you live in South Carolina, I have been there Golfing. I want my Shots to be "Calabash"! Crispy like a SC Hush Puppy! Calabash style! 😁
Calabash style is extra deep-fried crispiness indeed, Jeffrey!! Not many folks are quite ready for that level, but it is defintitely something to aspire to...😎
Hi Tom great vid you and Eric work well. Question, Eric promotes the turn through what about taking the club back. Is this more straight back feeling or more rotational bringing the club from the inside?
I'm glad you enjoyed our collaboration, Paul! I assume your question refers to the chipping method Eric is teaching here. It's a very connected motion, similar to what I teach for the full swing. If you go to the 6:40 mark or so in the video you'll see the down the line view of Eric's backswing motion for the chip. A good drill for practicing this would be to stick a tee under each armpit and keep them in place as you execute the chip shot. This will help ensure that you do not disconnect by taking the club straight back. Cheers! Tom

Thanks Jeff!!
Thanks Tom
My pleasure - I'm glad you enjoyed this collaboration video with Eric!
Tom
Wow ! Excellent golf teaching !
Thanks! Eric and I appreciate that!!
My driving and iron shots have improved greatly this year but chipping is still my weak area. Too many chunks and blading going on. This is just the vid I needed to see before heading out on the course tomorrow. Thanks to you both.
I'm glad that Eric's chipping lesson got to you just in time, Jon!!
This video was the reason I broke 100 today on Father’s Day. Thanks to both of you. Psychologically it was liberating. Can’t wait to break 90.
Would love to see a head to head course vlog between the two of you
100% FABULOUS Lesson 💰
Thanks @TeeGee!! Eric & I appreciate that!!
Tom
Thank you
My pleasure, Joshua - I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Tom
My confidence in my chipping has increased 100%. Thanks
That was a great great video
Glad you enjoyed it, Wade!!
This is great, I really need to improve here and this helps a lot
Thanks Joe - We're glad you enjoyed this chipping tip!!
TOM! Did Christmas just come early? Not one but TWO short game videos in one month? WOWSA! We just need a putting video to make the tri-fecta!
😂😂😂
Count your blessings, Mark - the rest of the short game stuff is in the online school!!
Cheers!
Tom
@@SagutoGolf I know. Im in there. It's sure nice though when you are striping it like Phil Mickelson, and the short game is not under too much pressure.
Need some putting help on our next lesson. Everything is super dialed in but the putter. Allegedly, you can't just buy a new one to fix it, and the wheels still won't get on the track. Apparently, no one likes being fired?
Cheers amigo
smashed it again boys....
Thanks Paul - We're glad you enjoyed this one as well!!
Tom
Great video. Are you both using the bounce or leading edge for stock chip shots?
More leading edge for stock chips around the green from a decent lie and with no trouble to carry.
Wow that should save a lot of bad shots thanks Tom and Eric good sauce guys, we will lap it up yum yum
Tasty stuff indeed, Courtney! Enjoy!!
Tom
Good stuff fellas 👍
Thanks Scott - we're glad you enjoyed it!!
Tom
Great video
Thanks Patricio - I am glad you enjoyed it and I hope it helps your chipping!!
Tom
Good stuff right here. 👍
Thanks Rickey - I'm glad you enjoyed this tag team episode with Eric!!
You guys are awesome. Great video
Thanks - Glad you enjoyed it, Gaetano!!
Tom you are the man!
LOL! Thanks Aaron!!
Man, I LOVE this video. I think at the end, you need to say "90 of 100 golfers need to work on chip shot techniques to improve their game, rather than knocking their driver all day at the range"! Excellent video my man! 👍⛳
Thanks Jim - I'm glad to know that this collaborative lesson with Eric resonated well with you!!
Tom
Kiss it 😮 keep it simple 😊
That's what we do here, Billy!

That’s awesome tip for me thanks a lot ⛳️✌️
We're glad you enjoyed and benefited from it, Ronaldo!
Thanks!
Well done gents. Thanks
Thanks Graydon - We're glad you enjoyed it!!
Love this video!!
Thanks Jeffrey! Eric and I have a great time working together!!
Tom
Can’t wait to try my (hopefully) improved chipping on the greens tomorrow!
If you can execute that, then you should not have to worry about concentrating on the ball at impact: ua-cam.com/video/hNZy7re7VOY/v-deo.html
I also recently released this "steady head" video - including a training aid - for my online school members ($10/month to have you playing your best golf in a simplified, body-friendly manner): ua-cam.com/video/fYc2Kr-tFd8/v-deo.html
Cheers!!
Tom
The best tip ever
Glad you enjoyed it, Joe!!
Brilliant...thankyou guys
Thanks Mike - Glad you enjoyed the collaboration!!
This was a really really good lesson. KFC Crispy FoSho!
Thanks Aaron - glad you enjoyed our collaboration!
Keep it crispy!!
Great video guys.
Thank you
Thanks Mike - We're glad you enjoyed it!!
That's a Great lesson THANKS
Thanks Robert - We're glad you liked it!!
Great team!
Thanks Al! Eric and I thoroughly enjoy working together!!
TS
Tried this today and chipped great! Love the videos!
Not many folks are quite ready for that level, but it is defintitely something to aspire to...😎
@@SagutoGolf
I am ready for it! 😁
I can’t wait, I need a lot of help! The thoughts in my head are disastrous and adding too many strokes to my scorecard.
Awesome, Mike! I'll see you in the video.
Cheers!
Tom
