Hi Andrew , thanks very much for this video , which I thought you explained everything so well . Looking forward to getting out and practicing this tomorrow. Love your content and thanks again.
Andrew, another great video! Since using a putting system similar to this ( 1 “ backswing per 1 step to the hole, 5 steps equals 5” backswing) I’ve been consistently leaving lag putts within 2 feet even from 40 feet away. As a senior I just switched to Wilson Launch Pad Hybrid irons and use them for green side chipping. By using only my PW or 8 iron, I had to vary the swing pressure to regulate distances. (Not always accurate) Your 6=6 run out, 7=5, 8=4, etc on down is EXACTLY what I was looking for! One swing, 5 distances. 1 week to the club championship, hopefully I can dial it in by then! THANKS AGAIN!
David, thanks for sharing your journey! I’m so glad that you’re making some awesome progress. This is such a simple framework for a simple chip shot! Keep up the great work! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻

This is a fantastic chipping video. I started practicing and using this technique a few months ago and the results have been great. Most amateurs like me probably only hit 5 or 6 greens in regulation during a typical round of golf. So, there are lots of opportunities to use this technique during every round you play. Two great things about this technique that I have noticed. 1) Much more consistent results - I never hit the ball fat or skull chip shots over the green 2) Usually the ball winds up much closer to the hole and then you have a shorter putt to make par or bogey. One other factor that needs to be mentioned - in addition to the distance to the hole you need to factor in whether you are chipping to a green that is flat, or are you chipping to green that is on an upslope or a downslope.

Great teaching tips. Easy to understand. Sometimes I think a lobotomy is my only path to better chipping, but, I’ll try this first. Outstanding dissection of chipping! I'm American and love the wee bump -n-run 😁 whatever it takes to get it close or in! Gary Player said chip it thin to win, hit it high you're gonna cry.
I have been a left hand low putter for 30 years. Chipping off tight lies or short ruff with left hand low technique, just feels natural. It will take strokes off your game. The club comes into the ball very nicely.
This is great. I really like the rule of 12 chipping, but i intuitively converted it to 2-part-1 as you described it (2:1) and now have it in a google sheet along with all my club yardages and for different stimp greens. Conversely, I can hit an 8 and a wedge on a new course practice green and translate that back to a stimp number for putting (if my wedge roles out 1:1 then I know it’s a 9, for instance…if it’s 2:1 then it’s a 10 and so on).

Wow, holding it in the palms is a great tip! I’ve used the putting approach for chipping with the toe up but doesn’t feel nearly as comfortable as this way. Thanks! Have you made a video on short pitches, like over a bunker with not a lot of green to work with on the other side?
Great video and instructions now I see what my problems are as I was in the fingers and swinging hip to hip and my target was the pin not the hot spot , could you post the club ratios and what do I use my AW wedge for? Thanks
Best advice is to get on the chipping green and figure out your own ratios. As far as you AW is concerned - It depends very much on the level of technique as well as the speed of the greens, but in general you’ll have a 1:1 ratio when chipping with the SW/AW. Thanks for watching! Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻

Short game is really where I dropped strokes. When I was able to pitch within 5yd circle. 10-60yds. I was able to score consistently in the mid to low 80s. I was shooting in the 70s when I could keep my tee shots in play. He is giving great advice here!
Great stuff and nice and simple. I've been chipping (& pitching up to 30 yards) lead hand low for several weeks and the results have been great. It helps keep the shoulders level and the low point in front (of the ball), low and long. Weight left, level shoulders and a touch of shaft lean that leaves some bounce. Straight back = crisper contact. It takes some getting used to (used to putt that way which helps). Up & down numbers are way up. Curiously seem to get more loft on the shot. The toe down set up works well in deeper grass too.
It’s a simple AOA drill that mitigates a shallow early release which is so prevalent with chipping around the greens for most golfers! It’s well positioned under the trail foot for that sole purpose. Thanks for watching! Best, Coach a. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
Around a 5/10 for the short shots is ideal. The challenge is maintaining a constant grip pressure - While at the same time - your wrist, elbow and shoulder joints have low tension and a full range of motion! Thanks for watching! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
With the heel elevated you’re striking towards the toe. This deadens the strike and helps create a more unobstructed (grass) - approach to the ball! Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
Yes, this is how I chip -- different grip closer to the steel -- not quite putting grip, but close. I actually put my right foot slightly behind and on my toe (forces consistent weight to the left), feeling the weight to the outside of the left foot. Also slight hinge and hold to take the wrist out of it. Now the most consistent chipping, and more up & downs then ever. Thank You!!!
Great instruction, Andrew! However, at my course, the fringe is usually only about 6 feet wide and then we're into 2-3 inch grass. Any advice for chipping from the deeper stuff? Thanx!

I wouldn’t recommend and you shouldn’t need it to be honest especially with the toe contact you’ll make using this technique, which slows the ball speed considerably! Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
I used my 9 irons around the green up to 85 yards for chipping and pinching up to 115 yards and it’s made my game more simple;believe or not I made quite a few birdies, and always pin high on the green,no kidding! Excellent coaching Andrew!🌈🙂🤙🌈🌈 P.s No worries and confidence at all time high with my short games.🤙
That’s awesome!! Stay in your own lane and do what works best for YOU!!! One size will NEVER fit ALL in golf! That’s my Philosophy as a coach. I will always meet my students where they are!!! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Depending on the loft of the iron used, you have to turn the face in (counterclockwise for a right-hander) since the club is more vertical. If not, the ball will travel off your intended path.
@@AndrewEmeryGolf I’ve discovered the secret to lower scores is to spend 70% of your practice time on the short game…and of that 70%, spent 70% on putting. I only practice putting with one ball only, lagging to the hole, then holing out, practice like you play! If using more than one ball, I’m practicing from 5’ and in, setting up my putts from different slopes and sides of the hole. ⛳️
Trying to get back into golf at age 63, played today and man I'm struggling with my chipping Coach A. Most often find myself stubbing it. Where should the butt of the club be finishing on the chip? Ahead of the ball, or at body centerline?
Ahead of the ball 100%!!! The club needs to sit vertically - work on hitting the side of the golf ball just like a putt! No need to hit down!!! Let the set up take care of the AOA. It’s likely that you’re dropping the grip too much so keep the club UP at the point of collision!! Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
Bump and run is how I make more chips than any. It was the first chipping lesson my coach taught me at age 13. My problem is distance control on flop shots.
Thanks for the comment Jason! That chipping technique works wonders. I’m sure I’ll be doing a lot more short game videos in the coming months. Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Paul Runyan with the heel off the ground, i had a putting lesson off him in the early 80's at a golf expo, had no idea who he was. Until i read up about him. Legend of the short game, flogged Sam Snead in the US PGA in the 30's.
When I talk about the arms moving the body (kinesthetic response) in the full swing. I’m referring of course to the FEEL. Our arms need time to catch up to the pivoting motion of the body in transition. They also expand past the body through impact! Neither of these happen when putting and chipping. The upper body’s role is in many respects is to ‘transport the arms’. Keep the lower body passive, and rock your shoulders, your arms in this case are the passengers!! Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻

Short game is really where I dropped strokes. When I was able to pitch within 5yd circle. 10-60yds. I was able to score consistently in the mid to low 80s. I was shooting in the 70s when I could keep my tee shots in play. He is giving great advice here!
Thanks Alex!! Congrats on your improvement. Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
love how you simplified this... I will take this on the course with me.
Thank you sir!! That’s the ultimate compliment. Simplicity is always the goal!! ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
This instruction is great. How about a video for hitting out of greenside rough.

Can you use this shot to the flag uphill. Very many thanks, do like this.

You have a very high golf IQ Ashley!! Great work! All salient points and I’m glad you’re improving. Thanks for watching!

I invested in a chipper !! best investment ever. Went from an 11 to a 7 in two weeks. Love chipping!!❤
That’s awesome!! 👏
8:44 What’s the purpose of stepping on the alignment rod? That wasn’t explained.
It’s a simple AOA drill that mitigates a shallow early release which is so prevalent with chipping around the greens for most golfers! It’s well positioned under the trail foot for that sole purpose.
Thanks for watching!

What grip integrity do you recommend for chipping, pitching, and putting?
Around a 5/10 for the short shots is ideal. The challenge is maintaining a constant grip pressure - While at the same time - your wrist, elbow and shoulder joints have low tension and a full range of motion! Thanks for watching! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Very good instruction. I was doing something similar with a seven and eight iron, but with the specific tips given, I know I can now do better.

Just back from 5 days in Portugal playing tough courses. Got up and down more times than ever using this technique. Cheers Andrew 👍
I have some great memories from playing golf on the Algarve. Vilamoura, Vale De Lobo and Penina - great golf!! Glad you chipped well! A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
@@AndrewEmeryGolf We played Vilamoura Millenium, Old Course (really tough!!!) and Victoria
Hi Andrew, for these chips with the toe down, are you still striking the ball fairly close to the centre of the club face?
With the heel elevated you’re striking towards the toe. This deadens the strike and helps create a more unobstructed (grass) - approach to the ball!

Super tips. The 10-12 club ratio is a killer.
Thanks for watching Matthew!

Great to hear Steve! Glad you liked my Chipping video!
good... interested in the take away

Great instruction, Andrew! However, at my course, the fringe is usually only about 6 feet wide and then we're into 2-3 inch grass. Any advice for chipping from the deeper stuff? Thanx!
That’s a leveraged chip James!! “Chop & Pop!” Lofted club - regular grip - increased descent angle! Stay tuned…..Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻

My chipping has been lights out thanks to this video.
Awesome to hear Jimmy!! Glad the video helped. Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
what if you are chipping out of long grass?
Will this work for a 60° Wedge or would you not recommend this for a 60° wedge
I wouldn’t recommend and you shouldn’t need it to be honest especially with the toe contact you’ll make using this technique, which slows the ball speed considerably! Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
@@AndrewEmeryGolf thanks 👍
I used my 9 irons around the green up to 85 yards for chipping and pinching up to 115 yards and it’s made my game more simple;believe or not I made quite a few birdies, and always pin high on the green,no kidding! Excellent coaching Andrew!🌈🙂🤙🌈🌈
P.s No worries and confidence at all time high with my short games.🤙
That’s awesome!! Stay in your own lane and do what works best for YOU!!! One size will NEVER fit ALL in golf! That’s my Philosophy as a coach. I will always meet my students where they are!!!

This addresses my biggest issue. I can't wait to get to the chipping green. I lose WAY too many strokes because of my chipping.
Thanks for watching Wayne!! Get after it! Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Depending on the loft of the iron used, you have to turn the face in (counterclockwise for a right-hander) since the club is more vertical. If not, the ball will travel off your intended path.
Thanks for watching! A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
@@AndrewEmeryGolf Thanks! I'll be working on it today.
This was a great lesson.

Excellent video, Andrew. Lovin’ the content and am one of the lucky ones who already knows the virtue of your skills!
Dave, thanks for watching!! Appreciate the kind words! A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Bump and run is how I make more chips than any. It was the first chipping lesson my coach taught me at age 13. My problem is distance control on flop shots.
Thanks for the comment Jason! That chipping technique works wonders. I’m sure I’ll be doing a lot more short game videos in the coming months.

Paul Runyan with the heel off the ground, i had a putting lesson off him in the early 80's at a golf expo, had no idea who he was. Until i read up about him. Legend of the short game, flogged Sam Snead in the US PGA in the 30's.
He was a legend!! ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Paul Runyan also popularized the rule of 11 chipping technique which has evolved to the matrix we see here.
Very useful technique 👌
Hi Andrew, big fan & subscriber of your channel. Are you saying you use your 'Arms" (Not your body/chest?) for chipping as in the video?
When I talk about the arms moving the body (kinesthetic response) in the full swing. I’m referring of course to the FEEL. Our arms need time to catch up to the pivoting motion of the body in transition. They also expand past the body through impact!
Neither of these happen when putting and chipping. The upper body’s role is in many respects is to ‘transport the arms’. Keep the lower body passive, and rock your shoulders, your arms in this case are the passengers!! Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
@@AndrewEmeryGolf Thank you for the reply & confirmation, much appreciated. I live in Thailand and have improved so much from your videos, what is the best way for me to have online lessons with you Andrew? TIA...
