I am from Honolulu, Hi. Our economy is a combination of military and tourism. Agriculture is pratically non - existant. We did have major sugar and pineapple plantations. Sugar and Pineapple moved overseas decades ago. Madcow wiped out the cattle ranches 30 years ago. The canneries are gone. When tourists stop coming here the city turns into a ghost town overnight. We have about 3 weeks of food. But we can have fish to eat and hunt wild animals and raise chickens and grow vegetables!

The problem, from the onset, outside of China in 2020, is that governments, institutions and mainstream media have been, and continue to be, reactive as to proactive. When the dust settles from all the gaslighting that continues to occur has settled, it becomes more and more obvious that we have learned very little, especially in the United States. When the first stories regarding Omicron were coming out of South Africa, there was concern of possible mutations of Covid with AIDS. This dropped off the radar rapidly.
Natural immunity. Elders and children that need a vaccine or a booster shot will get ONE and the rest will be done through the immune system. You learn to drive behind the wheel, not behind a UA-cam video.

I made the original comment above because I saw the front page of a Western Australian news paper saying nearly 2k nurses had left their jobs. That is only 1 state out of 7 in Australia.

Vaccination does not totally prevent spread of the virus, so other remedies should be tapped -- antibodies, increased individual resistance (low stress factors), antiviral drugs, etc. Many countries are subjecting their citizens with too much stress making them more vulnerable to the virus. Probably Ivermectin can be allowed this time. Based on Indian and Israel studies and analysis done by Japanese on many African countries, the drug lessens hospitalization and deaths.
People think covid is like a fast food joint. You order ur food and it's available within minutes. So they think covid would disappear like a fast food does from the counter. But no matter what you do how many people u vaccinate it will take a very long time to tame it. Unlike Spanish flu covid is a bio weapon. It's a very tricky animal. Bio weapons are never mild. Yesterday some one I know died due to covid. He was admired to hospital and within 4 days he recovered. Every report was fine and doctors said he was good to go. And that his infection was mild. Hence recovery was quick. But after getting discharged within 2 days or so he all of a sudden out know where he started having breathing problems and within minutes collapsed and died. This man had no symptoms he ate really well did his regular work and suddenly he collapsed. So I am saying covid is a bio weapon. So stop calling it mild.

We now know that Omicron is quicker to spread but much less dangerous than it’s predecessor variants. Britain is effectively letting the virus run, allowing people to catch Omicron which will build their natural immunity, only time will tell if they are right, so far it appears to be the right decision, hospital admissions are much lower than with the other variants, the time spent in hospital is less and those facing serious illness or death is very low. The answer will be seen by mid January, if this policy is proven to be right in the UK the rest of the world is likely to follow, thus giving natural immunity to Billions of people in readiness for any further mutation which may have the speed of transmission of Omicron but with more deadly consequences.

I don't think it really is a matter of choice anymore, given how infectious it is. Our lockdowns in Australia barely slowed down Delta, it's unlikely they would do much for Omicron. So its not so much 'letting' the virus run rampant, but trying to mitigate the harm done by something that is basically inevitable.

How many studies are done to check the efficacy of the vaccines against new variants & how long they are effective?
The real test is all the humans vaccinated. We will know of all side effects and complications by watching this generation, then we can say for sure if vaccine was worth it or not
I read that the "booster" gives about 10 weeks of so-called protection. No one knows much of anything!
This is not so easy. Remember that some people do not even produce antibodies specially if they have blood cancer or are taking pills to suppress their immune system to avoid rejection of organs transplanted. Apparently, the healthier and the younger you are the more effective is the vaccine. For examples people under 60 that are vaccinated in Spain and Canada ( in the report they state the ages too) who are vaccinated do not die. The deaths of people under 60 are among the unvaccinated. So the effectiveness of the vaccines is not the same for everyone. Apparently it is up to a year in the best cases among healthy people.
This is going to be a never ending game. Omicron. What Next ?

@Pak Pak8833 No, but, at least in the west, we tend to look on those we talk to, to their eyes in case of 1:1 conversation or in general direction of addressed person (you know it is hard to look to somebody's eyes when he sits like 5 metres away during meeting), in case of televised speeches thus directly to camera.
Maybe he is, but sometimes it is much easier to speak with your eyes closed, than keeping them open all the time. But I would say that is something you would to in circle of friends and colleagues, not in case of public speech, unless.... Unless you are tired.

Each country are doing their best if possible to alleviate the spreading of the virus, they know the consequences if they would isolate themselves nor close their doors to other countries to protect their own people and if possible to preserve life. What we really don't understand is that our modern day science and technology has the capability to analyze and decrypt certain viruses yet we are still wondering how the virus mutates even if we are doing our best to find a cure.

Until heard immunity is achieved through infection, the pandemic won't end since there are breakthrough infections despite vaccination. The virus also wants to survive. I only hope that there isn't a mutation in omicron which makes it lethal apart from the increased transmissibility it already has. Lockdowns can delay the unavoidable but can they really end the pandemic ?
Herd immunity is just a wish that will take a very long time after countless deaths and infections...sadly speaking
If the virus is more transmissible, then it's less lethal, otherwise the host would have died before spreading. If the virus is lethal, then it's less transmissible. The virus shouldn't have both advantages, that's cheating in nature and that is really hard.
@@akayuki94 lethal doesn't necessarily mean that the infected would die immediately. Even if it takes a few days, till then the person may have infected others. The other biggest pandemics like Spanish flu were both lethal as well as transmissable. That's nature's way of controlling population and revenge for damaging nature.
@@dekuscrub3173 I am not against vaccination. But the fact remains that the official mortality rate barring a few countries is about 2-3%. Even the vaccines don't claim to be 100% effective so possibly the mortality even without vaccines was less than the rate claimed by vaccine makers though vaccines may have reduced hospitalisation and severe illness but it most likely hasn't totally eliminated them. We are probably just delaying the end of the pandemic through lockdowns.

Wow that was a sharp increase, hope it does not affect global production and supply chains we are already looking into high inflation for 2022. After the games in February 2022, China's CDC should seriously revisit their Zero Covid Tolerance Policy and I am sure they will after they have solid data on how lethal the new variant Omicron matched against China's current health infrastructure which is pretty good.
Whilst China has very high health insurance cover, it does not cover their migrate workers. That is, you are only covered at the province you come from. So if you are from Xingiang and work in another province say Huabei and get sick, you are not covered as you are a migrate worker. Pretty hard for a population of 1.4 billion with 53 ethic groups, very distinct languages and cultures and different religions. If Omicron is lethal we could be looking at a new variant being bred in China as it gets out of the CCP hand and millions gets infected.
