They aren't hoarding, they are prepping. Commodity trader's are the reason for price inflation. The farmers who produce the grains aren't getting rich from this. They were just smart enough to take care of their own and stock up for the future.
They are taking crops and soil as collateral on debt payments.

If they grew it in there own country, you are not justified in them prioritizing there internal stability.

Remember that China has an agreement with the US to buy huge amount of grain from the US in order to balance the trade deficit, so don't blame China for importing more grain than it needs.. India can import from the US, too. The US has always excess grain for export

What I understand from the news is: China anticipates a food crisis and is gathering food grain from other countries to mitigate it; this is causing inflation in other countries. But is it not what I would expect leaders in my country to do? If the crop is washed out by flood, or if there is not enough grown because of drought, I would expect my government to cover that crisis by importing from other countries instead of letting us die from famine. If other countries are concerned about food shortage, let them not sell the food grain to China.
Note that China is not designing a famine for other countries, but only trying to secure food for its own people; they are asking their own people to consume less too. I think this is great foresight to take care of your own people from the devastating flood that China had recently. Contrast this with the great Bengal famine deigned by Churchill in 1943 where the British strategically depleted all the food grain from Bengal Presidency and created an artificial famine that starved between 3 to 5 million people to death.
The main problem I see is, the world wants the profit from China, but not the side effect.

Through FTA, developed economies have unrestricted access to Chinese market, and Chinese have money, so naturally food gets sold there. Dirty and self centred politics is another reason, but that's not as big as the legal FTAs.

If I remember correctly, I believe I saw news reports of “individuals” buying rice from farmers, for example, within certain countries in South Asia, and then leaving the country to China with the rice. In one infamous case, it ended up being one major buyer/corporation who didn’t actually make the full payment for all the rice. It was at least a million dollars if I remember correctly. I fear that some of those farmers may lose their farms and homes.

Rice and some other grains and pulses will only grow in certain climates and certain parts of the world. Until nature turns sibera or the Scottish Highlands into warm humid climates with heavy rain seasons then china et al is where rice grows. Further to my previous explanation, the other main reason for inflation in all other non food items is due to USA printing trillions of dollars within these two years. Being the reserve currency it exports inflation. Trade must be done in USD. US controlls the SWIFT system. So it is simply too much money chasing the same amount of goods and food in the world. Since most countries , including India, peck its money to the USD, inorder to maintain the same exchange rate it will have to print more of their own currencies in tandem. Simple principle of economics. It is easy for governments to appease their population by finding a scapegoat.
So when your own government spent more bilions and billions of dollars on weapons and less on food security, whether it is to encourage more farming activities or buy from external source, you start to blame people. Even when you go for war, the fundamental prepareness is food supply..not only to frontline but also for reserve.
So china is going to war?

Those provision would have eliminated small farmers. It gave so much power to those with huge money in hand. Limits on hoarding were removed. Imagine big corporations with billions of cash hoarding whole production of foodgrain and selling them at 5 times cost, using remaining to make 'grain whiskey', fuel. Leopold would have suffered, and middlemen aka corporation would have raked in billions. People have to buy it because food is a basic necessity. Govt would have then given some subsidy, and made those capitalists even richer. Why food is so costly in USA n Europe? Because of this ugly system. Also, due to corporatism, they grow low quality, testeless, but high yield n flashy crops. Thats why they get ill easily. Same would have happened in India.

@@swapnilpawar8015 if you have really read the bill (which I believe haven't) there were provisions to reintroduce limits on hoarding if price of a commodity went up more than 50% (or 100% in some cases). Currently the amount of food grains that rots in FCI godowns due to restrictions on hoarding is insane.
The current situation of the farmers wasn't too great at any ways. They can continue to be exploited by APMCs if they wish to.
It is not that there was no tade with private players previously. ITC, the brand behind Aashirwad aata deals directly with farmers and gives them good deals for their produce.
Currently there is no legal framework to enforce contracts in farming. The new laws would have brought the same.
