1. China launched geostationary satellites over South China Sea "to monitor and help predicting weather" for ASEAN region.

China also has a 99 year lease on the port of Darwin located at the top of Australia, much to the opposition of most Australians. China owns several airfields in Western Australia (thanks to the pro-China West Australian government) and unknown to many, China owns the rights to develop a deep water port at Oakagee on the central West Australian coast. This site was proposed as a site for the massive iron ore ships but would provide China with a significant military base on the Indian Ocean - and China is known for its long-term plans.

In a war, unless these ports are heavily defended with Chinese missile systems, they will be vulnerable to attack from both Indian and Australian navy vessels. Also, despite the fact these ports are where they are, they still have to sail through the Malacca Strait to get the supplies through to China. And, those waters can be easily blockaded. That's why China is building roads in those countries where the ports are, to bypass the Straits. However, roads have vulnerable choke points (bridges, passes, etc) and the supply of goods can be easily disrupted by attack. China is basically trying to hedge its bets by building these ports and roads, hoping one or the other can succeed in supplying them. And, if tensions rise and it looks like a war may ensue, the fact that the Chinese still have to deploy their forces through vital choke points means they cannot use these ports to their full potential. Unless, they deploy their ships many months in advance. That'll give the game away, straight away. Not a very good strategy.

I'm very impressed with the level of detail this channel is presenting. But I'm not sure if they are not worrying too much about China here. For one thing, if they want to use Gwadar as a military port they have to sail their ships past THE ENTIRE INDIAN COAST. India will have some excellent opportunities to prevent China from getting too settled in Gwadar if they want to do so.
Mind you, I don't doubt that China WANTS to use the string of commercial ports for their military if needed, but I don't think they have the ABILITY to actually get meaningful amounts of military hardware to them in the first place. Again, India has a very good Navy. World class and much more capable than what China has today. India just needs the resolve and the political clarity to make sure China knows their military won't be tolerated in India's backyard.
No, there’s CPEC( road route), from China to Pakistan to move military. They don’t need to pass through India’s territorial waters or EEZ to move their ships.
@@adipurush2 You cannot project force and protect your oil shipments (which is China's main goal in the Indian Ocean) with a road. And you cannot move enough materials over the Himalayas via ALL THE ROADS COMBINED to build a naval base and manufacturing facility.
CPEC goes from the inland part of Pakistan's flatlands near Lahore to Gwadar port. It does NOT cross the mountains into China at this time. And if they TRY, I have a hard time imagining Pakistan being OK with that much military buildup. It will probably never happen.
Do you REALLY imagine Pakistan would be OK with China rolling tank and artillery brigades within 100 miles of their capital, through their productive heartland, on their way to a naval port in Pakistan... for the purpose of turning it into a Chinese military enclave? I don't think they would tolerate that at all.

Well, l found some data on Wiki, in 2021, the Chinese Navy's tonnage is around 2 million (350 ships). Meanwhile, India Navy's tonnage is 0.53 million. It means that the Indian Navy is only a quarter of the size of the Chinese Navy.
@@weijin7776 That's very deceptive. China's navy is almost entirely a local, coastal defense force. It's what we in America would call the Coast Guard. It's not capable of sailing to the Persian Gulf without escort and tanker ships.
India's navy serves that purpose too, but they also have their own home built carrier force and an ability to project power away from their shores.
If you look to see what China could use to threaten India (or anyone more than 500 miles from China) you'll find that number goes way, way down.

What countries have to realize (and I'm sure they do) is that a foreign port that has military capabilities, is a prime target in case of war. So if you don't want missiles falling on your soil, don't have foreign ports from any country.

Just to present a contrarian view: The US has developed ports all over the world ever since WWII - Diageo Garcia is a case in point - that have been used to leverage its naval presence in the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
The US has also been involved with a series of conflicts since 1944, supposedly to 'support democracy': Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan (just to name the major ones).
Why do we red flag Chinese efforts in this direction, but completely ignore what the US has done and practiced for years?
