    i've got my first two years riding under my belt. on my RE Himalayan, excellent city bike. thing is a mule, it's not fast, never will be. but it's a capable bike. relatively cheap... and has ABS. dirt easy to work on/perform maint or mod. to me, looks cool. I get asked about it fairly often, and the small community of RE himi riders is extremely helpful and enthusiastic. I'll prob put another year or two on it... upgrade to a Ten700 but can't recommend it enough as a beginner bike

    • @Kingofthepnwdorks
      @Kingofthepnwdorks 2 роки тому +2

      I own three bikes, my Himalayan was the second I bought most recently (I’ve owned probably 9-10) I keep it because I don’t need my off-road bike to be fast. It gets 65-70mpg and is great for off-road or short grocery runs. I use it as a commuter mostly and it’s awesome for it. Plus as you probably know, parts are so cheap and easy to fix. My sportster and softtail are way more expensive to maintain and while much higher quality built wise, are an entirely different experience.

    I have a Versys X 300 as my first bike. I love it. Pros: great mpg, nimble, but feels planted while you are riding. Cons: it's light enough and has a large enough profile, any sort of crosswind will definitely send you into a different lane. I also weigh 250lbs so it'll do highway speeds but I have to drag it kicking and screaming the entire way.

    • @victoriazero8869
      @victoriazero8869 2 роки тому

      I understand the crosswind issue but I've never heard anyone saying Versys 300 as light lol. Only the P-twin V-strom 250 is heavier, and that thing was basically ADV Gixxer 250.

    Loving my Gen 3 KLR as my first bike, I think I'll keep it even if I get another next year, or the year after. Availability was great, was literally the first bike I could see myself buying that I found in stock at a dealer. I might literally get a used Versys next, tried one out and it's so fun; the way to improve it would be to make it a bit lighter.

    I mean depends on where you live, I always said best beginner is a 250 dual sport. And then you move on up to a 450. In the northeast and living in the Appalachian mountains, having something to ride backroads and still go where dirt bikes will go is a plus. My XT250 does need to be almost wide open to run the 70mph speed limits, but my dr650 does it just fine. Only thing is the dr is a little heavy when you drop it down a hill side or into a deep mud hole. But I think something like a wr450 would be perfect to do both

    Well, I have the benelli302s in which I have already racked like 7000kms. It has great power for a 300 bike but, most notably, it is very very comfortable (the seat).
    If you are planning to get it, I would recommend buying some type of wind-shield because cruising at more than 60mph might not be the greatest experience for some new riders.

    I started on--and still ride--the Royal Enfield INT 650 (Interceptor in all the world but the USA). Not knowing any of the other bikes, I can't comment other than to say you've the Interceptor fairly rated as one of the top bikes. For me, the riding position was a deciding factor when looking at quality motorcycles in the same class. That it is a constant head-turner and compliment eliciting machine has been a surprising bonus. Know the RE Continental GT 650 is much the same bike but in a cafe racer style.
    Embrace the pain, Yammie. You added credibility when you and your sidekick admitted you were wrong about the Royal Enfields. Many compliments to both of you.

    Started on a Royal Enfield - nice bike. Gearbox is great, smooth shifting no matter how hard you beat on it (Fortnine did a nice piece on the whole segment on how they have "stupidly over engineered the thing," makes sense.) Major complaints: 1. seat is uncomfortable for long rides (it's angle slides you forward, crotch first into the tank, HARD) 2. Electrical is a known issue. My speedometer just up and died randomly. on the way to the shop for a fix, it came back to life. New Enfields come with Brembos and they had a recall on all break systems, so that was reworked (mine had a swap after I bought it) - they tended to stick when cold, apparently.

    I think the Ducati scrambler is also a pretty good but odd beginner bike. The price is not quite beginner friendly but if the budget is right then i think it's not too bad. I had my first tank slapper, lowside, drops, and other "oh crap" moments on it and I feel like it was a pretty easy bike to ride considering the sitting position is pretty comfy and it's not a tall ride. The only downside I had with mine was that sometimes the throttle was not responsive when I was blipping the throttle but other than that it was a great bike to learn imo.

    Had a fucked up ‘84 magna as the first bike I ever rode and owned. Only things that worked perfectly on it were the engine and clutch. Hell of a learning experience lol.

    My Royal Enfield 650 interceptor has great brakes. Loved the episode Yammie made about it. Just couldn't figure out the part about the brakes. Maybe the one he rode had sucky brakes, I don't know.

      I thought the same about every cruiser I owned until I got on something with good brakes. Some bikes have such good breaks it feels like you might flip over if they didn't have abs. And if you're used to that, average brakes are crap

      I've watched some UA-cam videos, and some guys actually upgrade the breaking pads and leavers (search for: 6 upgrades for royal Enfield interceptor). I don't own one, so I can't really tell, but I'm strongly considering buying it for my first bike.

    only two kinds of riders Yammie. Those that have been down, and those that are going down. Being in the former of those, qualifies me. Streetfighter giggy 750 was the last bike I remember owning., but the receipt i have says I was on a ZX-9. Being rear-ended in '07, and a traumatic brain injury, I would be in the latter category. Being in bed for , however long it was caused "footdrop". That means I cant shift! I even tried on a quad!!!

    The picture on 8:19 mark is actually a QJMOTOR SRK 350 the engine of which is a bigger bore version of the 302s’. I owned a 2019 302s here in China it was pretty good and I was pretty happy with it but wished for a bit more power and a bit lighter weight. In the begging of 2022 I test rode the SRK 350 and found out it’s lighter and has more power - a much better, more complete bike. But I am not sure you can get QJMOTOR models in US.

    It’s all about sitting position, upright is the easiest and safest. No sports bikes leaning over the bars, no cruisers. The Duke200 KTM is an example of the correct position for a learner.
