Epley works for me but it keeps coming back if I use a pillow to sleep. I’ll sleep upright or on my back but if I sleep on my arm for a few nights it’ll come back. I can’t train jiu jitsu and I’d give anything to be able to

I have done the Semont manoeuvre for my VBBP now I still have some symptoms ( dizziness) when I move my neck, I am scared to stay supine I feel super scared, any thoughts?

Could be a couple of things, either you fixed your BPPV and the dizziness you are experiencing is more due to cervicogenic dizziness (typically the quality of the symptoms in this case would change from a spinning type to a wooziness or different type), or you haven't fixed your BPPV and need a different maneuver. Is the dizziness you are experiencing the same quality as it was before the maneuver, or has it changed? How would you describe your symptoms now?

Can't help disagreeing. I got bppv and then slept normally and what happened then is chronic dizziness and imbalance for months now. I believe the otoliths rolled in to several of the canals where they have now stuck resulting in dizziness and imbalance on every single head or body movement. So far it's been 5 months without one second of relief.

Sorry to hear you are having so much dizziness! If it’s constant it’s most likely not BPPV. BPPV will last less than a minute and come on with positional changes. Imbalance is less prominent with BPPV although it can be there, it’s just seen more with conditions like vestibular neuritis and vestibular migraines. Given that, make sure you test for BPPV to rule it out as there are maneuvers you can do depending on which canal the crystals are displaced in.

@@VertigoRecoveryDr I believe the crystal displacement caused bppv (It lasted a day or so). The cause of the bppv episode was just a head-down, leaning over the bed move - no trauma. Still, that simple move knocked the crystals and gave me bppv. Then I slept - almost certainly on the 'affected' side and it looks like the crystals moved in to other canals. No horrendous vertigo symptoms now but I still have catchup saccades and as I said, constant dizziness on movement. It's certainly a nightmare - and getting treatment is also a nightmare.

I am suffering from bppv from last one month...After 5 days of suffering when it get started, I get recovered automatically without any therapy but after 4-5 days it came back again..Then i got the therapy after that..i used to sleep on my back coz makes me comfortable and no vertigo and avoiding sleeping on my right side arm coz it gave me vertigo and i was diagnosed right inner ear problem..Sleeping on left side arm is quite comfortable no vertigo at all but when i switched sleeping from leftside arm to on my back i got vertigo..so i avoid sleeping on left side arm also..so what is the best way of sleeping position and how should i recover fast from it?

Do you have a vestibular physical therapist near you? They would be able to help you distinguish between BPPV and cervicogenic dizziness. If it comes on and lasts less than a minute, it’s most likely BPPV. If you would like a step by step guide on how to test for BPPV and the BEST maneuver for your specific type, check out my vertigo kickstart mini course:
