You know, you made me realize, what if this trilogy could’ve been something bigger in story, how it would be about how in the first game it was establishing the rivalry between Pac-people and Ghosts, the second game expanding on that and showing where it began with deeper lore in the ancient book, and the third one bringing them together to fight a greater evil but learning to respect each other and redeeming themselves and finally have a calm interaction with one another possibly starting a new beginning thanks to Erwin, what if the first game really pushed the technology and creativity of the Ghosts on their Island and how fun they can actually be, the second game them sneaking into Pac-Village as a way to get back at them for getting on their territory last time and summoning the ancient ruler who was sealed away but clearly proved just as powerless against Pac-Man learning their lesson. Finally with the third game they now have to join forces and put aside their own rivalry to fight against Erwin who threatens both their worlds and plans to (incompetently) rule them, but after working together and Pac-Man and Orson growing fondly on each other through their interactions and revealing the ancient’s plans and what lead to their perish, realizing fighting and rivalry won’t do them any good and become peaceful with each other and the ghost gang stay home with the family while Orson fixes the Spectral Realm and restores Ghost Island itself to a spooky yet tropical island and have him and Professor Pac bond on their intelligence and love for science and history and technology (Toc-Man and the Yellow Pac Marine their own inventions) while fixing their homes respectively this giving closure to Pac-Man canon as a whole and then World Rally is them having go kart races as now friends and a way to have fun and let loose ending the saga the best way possible, or did I over think it more than you did?
Spoilers for the re-release: So once you beat Re-Pac, you still get the same ending where Pac-Man eats Orson - but only if you haven't rescued all five family members. If you have, he spares Orson instead. That's right, the original ending is now the bad ending. Pac-Man can show mercy, but only once he's proven he has nothing left to fear from the ghosts.
Man, World 2 on the GC was my childhood. Never expected to see a channel (that I like!) cover it. What's that? He covers all 3? Well I guess I know what I'm doing at work today.
yeah the blinky(named clyde in that game) was too hard like I still have trouble to this day it was broken also the last level(ghost maze one) was also pretty hard too
I really REALLY love how they made Ghost Island set-up for Pac-Man, since it's where the ghosts live, but they made Pac-Land feel natural, and not like it was set up for Pac-Man since it's his home. I know you already kinda pointed that out, but I just REALLY love the slight change of gameplay between the two.
I know the comparison for Pac-Man World 3 was Sonic Adventure 2. But to really seems more like... Pac and Daxter or Pac-it and Clank! ...I have no regrets...
Honestly the Spectral Realm being different to everyone based on their expectations could’ve been a very cool gimmick whether it would actually change the gameplay or just a cosmetic change we don’t know but it’s such a cool concept that could’ve been utilized and taken advantage of, like how it is in this game is how Pac-Man sees it but Pinky and Blinky see it much nicer, very interesting concept........
I remember absolutely loving World 2. It's one of the few games that I get nostalgia from. It was the only game that I was able to complete (with the exception of some of the volcano levels, seriously, those were difficult).
“Pac-man doesn’t talk a big game, He gets shit done.” That is my favourite line in this video. That or maybe “Pac-man man and Clyde don’t fucking play”
It's definitely crazy to see games that were not meant to be picked apart be dissected in such a way. Even games like damn Pacman World 2 have complexity and care put into and that is kind of heartwarming. Also great review mate, I specially love how you interpreted the deep lore of Pacman, the ghosts as underdogs and Pac-People as racist landowners that hunt them for fun is such a good take, I'm sure that was the writers intent.
Pac-Man World 1 & 2 both have complexity and care put into it that make it heartwarming and some of the best games of (what was before 2015 when Bandai-Namco decided to regress the franchise into a nostalgia-panderer) Pac-Man up to the ranks of Pac-Man World Rally (or, as some of the mice in An American Tail 1 would pronounce it, “Wawwy”, I’m getting Mega Man 8 vibes from this! *bursts out laughing uncontrollably),* Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures 1 & 2, Adventures in Time, Maze Madness, Super Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Pac ‘n Roll, Pac-Man Championship Edition 1, etc.
Awesome Video, I grew up with this series and I still love them despite the big differences in PW3. I got 100% in PW2 for PS2 a couple years ago and that was a big nostalgia achievement for me lol
These games were a lot of my childhood, 1 barely because the ps1 didn't last long after I was able to play, but 2 and 3 were the games I most played as well as marvels ultimate alliance
These three games made up a lot of my younger years, and i thought they were the hardest things i ever played (then again, being like 9 i wasnt exactly the smartest) but seeing you review the series brought back a huge nostalgia boost, and it was a great review! Good use of my time to watch! Keep it up!
Despite how jarring and occasionally unfitting the writing of World 3 is, I really like it, especially with Pacman's lines. Pacman himself is incredibly upbeat, but never annoying and coming across as ignorant. He does react to things, but he always manages to get the best result out of a situation, whether it be a conversation or a battle.
This is the most in depth review of the Pac Man World series I have ever listened to. I agree with almost everything you said about each title in the series. Thank you so much man, this was such an enjoyable listen!
I’m two years late to this but!! I loved all of these games as a kid, but for the past few years I’ve been too afraid to go back to them since I know what good games are now, but I loved this! I never see anyone talk about these games, and it was really exciting to see someone do it! Also the dialogue I remember loving so much in the third game I still love now,, this video was such a trip, keep up the awesome work
Yeah, Pac-Man World 3 Guilty pleasure for sure, hell it’s probably one of my favorite games when I was a stupid little kid who barely read the text in any game I played.
I mean to be fair, the early Pac games all followed the Pac people trapped in mazes, harassed and hunted down by ghosts until they run out of lives, and it's shown that even being eaten doesn't permanently defeat or kill ghosts. Plus there's the whole thing where one of the ghosts tried to attack Junior for being friends with a ghost kid, so I'm not necessarily saying this is entirely justified but I think there may be a bit more going on here than just what World covered
To me I do see it he deserved it and let's think about this and be honest 1 : Family Kidnapped on HIS BIRTHDAY 2 : Went through hell trying to rescue them *cough* *cough* Anubis Rex and Spin Dizzy 3 : Trying to steal his Identity as the "Real" Pac-Man to celebrate his birthday 4 : Trying to kill him while on Ghost Island so he can be the only true Pac-Man So yeah he deserved it glad Orson DID change his ways and actions on World 3 (Love that game though)
And then next will come Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac where the characters are all in their home console designs of that game plus it would also have Ms. Pac-Man, their child (likely a late teenager recently before he marries Blinky’s child of about the same age much to her father’s disapproval) Jr. Pac-Man and Chomp-Chomp (he can pee on enemies more than any other dog)!
Pac-Man and the Ghosts are a really weird relationship. In the platformers, they're treated as common enemies and easy to take care of nuisances to the Pac people. In the arcade games, they're nearly invincible threats that kill you in a single touch. And in the cartoons they're either mischievous troublemakers or evil goons out to take over the world.
World 3’s reliance on easier platforming and making you fall to a lower level instead of a bottomless pit like a typical platformer is an eerily similar problem to Mario sunshine, except there’s absolutely no water in sight to even fall in.
Thank you kindly, I mostly don't do whole series retrospectives (at least within one video) if you haven't watched it already I'd recommend the Xenus trilogy playlist, and every video in the playing series generally follows this level of work.
Tehsnakerer yeah I’ve gone through all of your videos before coming back to this one to make a comment. The xenus series is a reminder of how creative Eastern European devs can get with their worlds, even if they got a whole lot of jank! But I really like longer review videos, and ones that try to capture a series or a piece of video game history that may be untouched. I also really appreciate Spiders rpgs, Mars: War Logs, technimancer and the likes. Flawed games but I have a soft spot for them. Thanks for the reply, and I hope you do consider keep making videos, and even some at this caliber. Cheers.
In the original? Yes. I don't know how but even as a child, sitting at the computer and "playing" this with my dad, I knew that and called the game out on it. Binky=Violent=Red in my child mind, Pinky=Pink, Blinky=Blue since both started with a bl, and Clyde was the leftovers in the weird, oft forgotten on rainbows, orange.
Pac-Man World 1 was the first real game I ever played, so i have a ton of memories on this title. I love this analysis of each of the games. 10:05 I'm really surprised you know about the galaxian thing in the slots for the first game. Every person that I talk to/watch talk about this game dont know about this little tip.
Oh yeah pac man had a personality. One of the games I have the most nostalgia for is Pac Man 2: The New Adventures for the Sega Genesis. I'm not sure if that was the first game to show it off but it was definitely the most memorable for me. I've always passed up the Pac Man World series because IIRC at the time of it's release and games journalists were still somewhat relevant it got middling to average reviews which, based on what I've seen in this video, seems kinda apt.
Absolutely loved Pac-Man World 2 when I was a kid, so this was surprising to see! Didn't even know there were three games, much less that I was playing the second one.
I did really like Pacman World 3 - though I was like 10 and bad at videogames so I found it actually challenging. Without the context of the first two games, I just assumed the relationships between Orson, Pacman, Blinky and Clyde were better developed in the other two and that they'd had a rapport. It was a neat 3d platformer with a nice mood and was rated E at a time when it felt like a lot of 3d platformers were moving towards T ratings and darker subject matter (so were inaccessible to me). Maybe if I'd played the sonic games or something I wouldn't have liked it as much but as a first introduction to the genre, it was definitely enjoyable with very fitting music.
I've had 2 from my childhood 7-8 or so and I'm 22 now. I still have yet to beat the volcano world. Meanwhile I really want to play 3 because I really like the look of it. I like the huge sprawling worlds and dialog. It reminds me a little bit of Super Mario Odyssey.
On note of keys in the first game. If you get 1 million points in your save you get a special key that allows you to open any door in any level without the required fruit
Great video mate! All three games I have an immense nostalgia for, played em all, alongside Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario 64 DS in my childhood 💜 Really enjoyed this series retrospective ☺️🍕
For a time, I used to have all these games. My stepdad had the first game already, and I was curious. Liking the idea, but not the difficulty, I sort of focused my time on other games. Mainly Driver or King of Fighters. I got 2, 3, and World Rally as a gift (birthday or a good report card) and I was so excited. The only one I completed on my own and still love to this day is the third one, since the level design and mechanics are cool.
The whole "Pac people are rasicts monsters" observation gains several dimensions when you remember that the plot of Jr. Pac-Man in the arcade original was Jr. having a romance with a young female ghost named Yum-Yum.
When I was younger, I played both Pac Man World and Pac Man World 3, but not the second game. When I played 3, I thought I had missed so much lore and development by not playing 2...

Ok first of all your playing the PS2 version good that's my favorite console World 3 is always Widescreen in default you can switch it to the normal screen if you want in the options menu
I enjoyed this retrospective being a thorough review of the Pac-Man World franchise while also being comedic, this part at 59:50 - 1:00:07 always seems to get a goo kick out of me! Though with that being said, this makes me beg the question if you could hypothetically consider creating a retrospective on the Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures franchise, for if Pac-Man World 3 is the black sheep of the family, then Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures is the unwanted relative that always joins family reunions. I myself am fond of that franchise, though I understand why people enjoy the originals so much and cherish them so dearly, as they are all very great games in their own right and to their own extents. I would enjoy seeing another retrospective done by you for the Ghostly Adventures franchise, primarily the game series, unless you're willing to watch the 2 seasons of the animated series too. Amazing video, and hope you'll have a fantastic time!
Pac Man World 2 is my favorite out of the 3 games hands down. It takes the established game mechanics of the first game and improves them, not to mention that its level design gets increasingly difficult as you progress. The game also feels so much cleaner and refined, in terms of graphics and character models. World 2 has the advantage of being released on next gen consoles, so the game looks 10x better than what came before.
The harmony between ghosts and skeletons raises so many questions. Is there a Kingdom Hearts situation going on where when someone dies, they create both a skeleton and a ghost, which act independently of each other?
Anubis Rex. Out of all the levels in the game besides Spin Dizzy, that was the only other level where I got a game over. The intro was kinda cool, but the second phase...omg that was hell on wheels when I was younger, I used to do the same method you used in the vid. Quite an unfair difficulty spike given how early it appears in the game.

I remember playing pacman world 2 when I was a little kid
Alexander - ThatBlueHatGuy #FishTopia same. I remember hating it.
yeah the blinky(named clyde in that game) was too hard like I still have trouble to this day it was broken also the last level(ghost maze one) was also pretty hard too
Me too, it's the reason I checked out this video.
God I remember that frustrating but amazing game.
I need to find some on the songs on UA-cam now.
Me too
I still have the game and remember sucking at even finishing World one XD
I agree. I like how fair you were to Pac-Man World 3.

It's fucked up that Namco constantly changes which ghost is Clyde
Honestly the Spectral Realm being different to everyone based on their expectations could’ve been a very cool gimmick whether it would actually change the gameplay or just a cosmetic change we don’t know but it’s such a cool concept that could’ve been utilized and taken advantage of, like how it is in this game is how Pac-Man sees it but Pinky and Blinky see it much nicer, very interesting concept........
Pac-Man Adventures actually was going to start with a terrorist attack; there’s storyboards of it.
X-khou Really?
Josh S Yes.
X-khou please tell me your joking
John Anderson I’m not.
I wonder how this would’ve played out
I remember absolutely loving World 2. It's one of the few games that I get nostalgia from. It was the only game that I was able to complete (with the exception of some of the volcano levels, seriously, those were difficult).
Coming here after the announcement of the remaster. So hyped for it
Th...the what? Sweet.

“Pac-man doesn’t talk a big game, He gets shit done.” That is my favourite line in this video.
That or maybe “Pac-man man and Clyde don’t fucking play”
The script is priceless
Pac-World 2 is a game that I have nothing but nostalgic memories for.
Keep it up!
I just realized I haven't been subbed this whole time. That changed the second I realized it. Amazing content.

I practically grew up with the second game. It's cool to see someone else at least knows of the series' existence.
That’s what makes him such a great role model for anyone at any age, he’s never cynical and wears that smile with pride
Pac-Man world 2 i miss that game so much
I used to love this game! Really loving these thorough reviews of older games
I have some fond memories of the pirate and space stages, I used to love the schmup section
I love Pac Man World 2 it was one of my first ps2 games along with kingdom hearts and ratchet and clank 1 oh man the nostalgia
This is the most in depth review of the Pac Man World series I have ever listened to. I agree with almost everything you said about each title in the series. Thank you so much man, this was such an enjoyable listen!
love your videos. played this as a kid and did an audible "OH YES" when i saw this
I’m two years late to this but!! I loved all of these games as a kid, but for the past few years I’ve been too afraid to go back to them since I know what good games are now, but I loved this! I never see anyone talk about these games, and it was really exciting to see someone do it! Also the dialogue I remember loving so much in the third game I still love now,, this video was such a trip, keep up the awesome work
1:27:46 They're waiting for you, Pac-Man... in the _test chamber..._
Yeah, Pac-Man World 3
Guilty pleasure for sure, hell it’s probably one of my favorite games when I was a stupid little kid who barely read the text in any game I played.
It’s very interesting to think about that’s for sure
38:08 - the shrink pellet plays a very small part.
Was that an intentional pun?
Actually glad Pac-Man got back at Orsen at the end of World 1. Guy kidnapped his family so he got what he deserved.
To me I do see it he deserved it and let's think about this and be honest
1 : Family Kidnapped on HIS BIRTHDAY
2 : Went through hell trying to rescue them
*cough* *cough* Anubis Rex and Spin Dizzy
3 : Trying to steal his Identity as the "Real" Pac-Man to celebrate his birthday
4 : Trying to kill him while on Ghost Island so he can be the only true Pac-Man
So yeah he deserved it glad Orson DID change his ways and actions on World 3 (Love that game though)
Masterpiece

So a remake of Pac-Man World 1 was announced today.
Different strokes for different folks (and mediums of course)
Man this dude is exactly what I want, more then a hour long videos
And more 3D Pac-Man
World 3’s reliance on easier platforming and making you fall to a lower level instead of a bottomless pit like a typical platformer is an eerily similar problem to Mario sunshine, except there’s absolutely no water in sight to even fall in.
Every time I see you post I grab popcorn and drink I love your content bro!
This is probably my favourite content you’ve made. Very good retrospective. I know it’s a lot of work, but I hope you continue to do videos like this.
Cheers.
I'll keep at it, I'm chipping away at a smaller video at the moment but I've got some stuff I'm looking at that'll likely be a lot more ambitious
Okay, this is driving me nuts- isn’t Clyde the orange one?? I know in Pac-Man arrangement Clyde was Red but he’s clearly Orange in original Pac-Man
In the original?
Just a dumb name mix up, but they fixed it in Pac-Man World Rally at last!
1:11:44 I didn't know Pac-Man was a sith lord.
Man, I have some incredibly fond memories of Pac-Man World 1!
The journalist reviews aren't apt at all. World 2 is easily one of the best platformers ever made imo.
I absolutely loved Pac-man world 2 as a kid.
Damn pacman shows no mercy in world 3
Absolutely loved Pac-Man World 2 when I was a kid, so this was surprising to see! Didn't even know there were three games, much less that I was playing the second one.

1:21:19 Dear Pacman, how do you type with boxing gloves on your hands? -- aaron pratt, marion IN
I did really like Pacman World 3 - though I was like 10 and bad at videogames so I found it actually challenging.
It reminds me a little bit of Super Mario Odyssey.
what a nostalgia bomb. completely forgot i even played pacman world as a kid

It’s certainly my guilty pleasure
I never knew I wanted an analysis on the Pac Man world games until I watched this. Great job!
Pac-Man World Re-Pac is coming!
The first Pac-Man World looks like a game I would have absolutely adored as a kid.
As an adult it looks like a nightmare.

Say what you want about pac man world 3, but the punching sound effects are some of the most satisfying ive heard in any video game.
I see them as the spider man movies pre MCU
