4amlaundry i love your videos and i watch your videos after school at my grandma's house and i love that you are hunting for the oldest consoles and oldest game like snes and nes and n64 and more keep it up
Pim back in action let’s get those games my man another day in the life of Pim in Japan always a pleasure to join you or weekend video and live adventures
Always make sure to watch your content soon after upload. You have a chill narration style and love the mixed in old school video game ads. Still on a Neo Geo bender, but my wallet has told me enough for now ;) The AES console in that show case is definitely overs, got mine on Yahoo Auctions (no box, extra controller) for half that! There is even a local Australian seller wanting Y130'000 for in box with extra controller and a game on ebay, so not worth sadly. If you decide to get an AES, hold out for circa Y50'000 or less for console and one controller. Really only worth if you have attachment to the old school console, as emulation is your best bang for buck approach to Neo Geo gaming :) PS: Great pick up on the FF8 - don't have a PS1 but would be a pure nostalgia buy at that great price :)
Awesome and fun game hunt. I don't have a laser disc player and I would have picked up the 1st Karate Kid movie. It would make an awesome display piece!
Thank you for the videos bro! Maybe you can give a little advice how to visit multiple hard-off shops a day outside tokyo? By bicycle? Because distance is pretty big for just walking and I will have only few days in Tokyo. Cheers!
love the hard-off trip videos! man some of those are going for dirt cheap I'm super jealous! but suppose I'll always have the ebay deals since I'm still stuck here in the US. I did pick up a couple more on saturn recently (VF2 and SF Zero 2) but definitely have to get back around to PS2 and SFC stuff. hopefully soon!
That Puckman LCD game looked really cool. The Shining Force game was actually number III scenario 3. They split up the third game into 3 parts, of which only the first one made it to the west. Also, great haul!
katamari betaal ik hier een vermogen voor... nice episode :) watch the music, its a bit on the loud side. (discovered you watching the gameroom documentaties)
Knowledge is power. CPS2 is a system that requires the green board for the game, and the black section is the mother board, they sandwich together. Green is Japan, blue is the West, the motherboard needs to match the region of the coloured board. The mother board houses the connector to the cabinet and the audio. The Donpachi game earlier in the video is the prequel to Dodonpachi. They are different games albeit play very similar. Super Grafix has about 5-7 games, it came out around the SFC/MD era to supercede those consoles. It just added one chip over the PC Engine for multi layered scrolling and a bit extra sprite work and was 100% backwards compatible with all games on PC engine. It takes hucards in the middle section. It flopped, due to lack of support, only 5 or so games came out for it and some of them didn't even use the specs of the machine to make them differentiate from the normal PC engine games. Ghouls and Ghosts is the only game on it that people care about.
Was hoping for a comment like this even tho I already looked it up. I thought that was the case with the CPS2 but wasn't sure haha Caught Donpachi during editing as well, thanks!
lmfaooo "i dont know much about that franchise....except the volleyball game of course" lmfaoooo brother same. When i say I was surprised AF when when my brother said he picked DoA and it was a fighting game.........
Is there some Japanese equivalent to price charting so you can look up prices sometimes? When you find rare stuff you have never seen you could get a sense of the deal you found or lack there of.
Not really, Price Charting is super inaccurate for local prices here so I usually just look for latest sold prices on auction sites like Yahoo or Mercari. Most of the time I just okay it by ear and if it's too expensive for me I just leave it. Keeps it fun that way haha
Yeah Airsoft is huge in Japan, I think it even came from here originally. There's always a massive section for it but I skip over it since I'm not sure on the YT guidelines on it lol
@@4amLaundry ok figured thats what it was, yeah i have a few of their branded japanese guns here we were getting them years ago cause they were semi pricey but the best you could get
That's a lot of caps lock lmao, yeah they have new items here and there but it's not common. Usually it's behind glass and super expensive, there's a couple in the video here.
"Untested" and no warranty is the general reason. I've never bought anything that didn't work from the junk section to be honest. Sometimes they just have too much of a cheap item (5 copies of FFVIII), a CD can be a little scratched or they can't get a console to work because of no cables etc. They'll list a reason on the lable a lot of the time.
Depends on the system, Super Nintendo/NES games work fine with a converter. PS1/2 games do need some type of a modded console. I just had Japanese consoles back in the day
Thanks! I think you're best to join the weekly livestreams for that. I'm a retro game collector so I wouldn't have the slightest clue about PS4 games. When it's live you can just ask in chat and I won't mind showing it tho.
Final Fantasy Tactics is rumored to get a new version. It's weird that SNK doesn't do big collections of their fighting games series on PS5. The Legend of Zelda Minish Cap would be amazing as a Switch remake. There's rumors of Code Veronica getting a remake. 22:30 The DreamCast version of this is pretty much spot on in terms of arcade perfect gameplay. But the PSP version is considered the definitive version. It's weird that they didn't include either versions in the PS4 Street Fighter collection. Maybe Capcom will make an updated version for PS5? 22:40 OOF The RockMan games are not as valuable these days with Capcom releasing the collections on PS4. 31:37 It's actually Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter. That and the others in the series shouldn't be valued like that since there's now a Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics (on PS4 and Switch). It has all of those games, arcade-perfect and some console style features. The PS1 version is notoriously bad as it's missing frames of animation has load times, and it doesn't include the tag team aspect. The Saturn version is what you want if you want a 'retro' version of the game. But that was Japan only since Saturn was pretty much non existent in the US. 32:27 Impressive haul indeed.
Man, I'd love to go game hunting in Japan, However I'd have to stick to platformers or shmups with minimal japanese. Karaage kun strikes again! Regular, Red or Cheese? I found a boxed Silver Gameboy Pocket for 43€, did not pick it up since I was eyeing a complete Darkwing Duck for the Nes for 75€ that I ended up taking with me. Man, those AES games make me drool, Even though I cant afford the console.
Omg there's SOOOO much money to be made for a reseller here. You could live off doing that alone in Japan I feel like. Just about every single game you could double triple and sometimes quadruple your money on reselling on eBay. That R-Type 3 for super famicom cost 100 USD there. Sales for 250 all day on eBay for example. That would be too tempting for me. Of course there's the down falls like shipping and wait time. Lol. But love your videos man. Japan got all the nice cover arts and boxes. It seems like people in Japan are a lot more cleaner and actually don't throw away their boxes like they do over here in the us
Yeah see if everyone did that it would all be gone and online for 4x the price, leaving nothing for collectors and enthousiasts ;) This is a fun hobby that I like to document and I'm lucky enough to be able to make a (tiny) living off of my videos. Reselling takes literally all of the fun out of it for me but that's just my own humble opinion. Appreciate the kind words tho :)
Just to remind everyone..... games in Japan are not an infinite resource, eventually just like in the city... you will be unable to obtain these things. Its kind of sad, tourists are stripping the country of its gaming history.
It's not an anxiety talk: these are words spoken by many Japanese collectors. Tourists loot Japan. However, Japanese sellers certainly cannot prohibit the sale to foreigners. I don't think there is any solution.
A lot of people are ruining collectionism to win a few dollars in youtube. In a fee years they are going to do a video saying "there a no more games in japan and the new prices are wild" but never adknowledge they are the culprit of that. In 5 years Japan is gonna be empty of retro games
Japanese people don't care so why do you? Japan has worse problems than it's video games finding good homes. Low birthrates, Tsunami Flooding...but yeah the Video games finding good homes that's the big problem
Question: Do you really need to censor your videos? I just started watching a couple of your videos now and noticed it. None of the other youtubers that make videos on game hunting in Japan censor (audio, or video). But you do which is insulting as an adult viewer.👎
The prices conversion and the previews on each game make this an excellent video. Thanks for sharing.
Love how you show so much gameplay. Cheers.
best japan retro game thrifting video I've seen all day
these kind of prices would actually encourage me to keep collecting, great video like always!
Really enjoyed this! Having the gameplay edited in gives plenty of context for all those games I've never seen before
Some great deals there, nice find!
Awesome video once again!
Really great editing on this weeks video 🎉🎉
Love desert strike and all the strike games. Can’t believe no one wanted that back when you got yours.

Appreciate that so much man thanks for watching!

Japanese gameboy boxes are so good
I really love the small ones fr
Hope you are feeling better Pim. Nice to see this on my feed!
Awesome stores! Nice pickups! Keep it up :)
@00.16 "All of me" is one of my favorite albums, i would have bought it in a heartbeat!
Good pick up and great video as always. I am going to Osaka next week and hope to score some retro games, especially Pikachu N64!
Watching you from Argentina!
banger vid as always

Watched this twice! Awesome stuff man!
Awesome and fun game hunt. I don't have a laser disc player and I would have picked up the 1st Karate Kid movie. It would make an awesome display piece!
Yeah but I have to set some boundaries for myself haha, otherwise I'd have literally bins full of display pieces

Would be killer to see the year of release to go along with the price and name. Thanks man

Also, great haul!
Great video! Which part of the country was it in? I couldn't quite understand it.
Locations always in the description.
I have that exact Outrun soundtrack at home, still has to be one of my favorite finds, think I also paid around 2000 yen for it like 5 years ago
It's such a good soundtrack man

Thanks voor de feedback. Was lastig deze keer, soms is het echt een herrie in die winkels haha
Welkom bij de channel!
New video lets gooo!!!
🗣️ AYO BABE, NEW 4am WAKE UP!

Ace Attorney, dibedi 32:35
I own the clear Astroboy Gameboy mint in the box cost me 200,000 yen 💴 in early 2023 😅
Are shmups just the most expensive vintage game genre? It never fails!
Unfortunately 🥲
8:55 I think you forgot a 0 in the USD conversion there. $10.08 seems too cheap for that controller.
8:50 Such a relaxing Type of Video! just a Little mistake you made with the Price there.
Leuke video Pim. ❤
lmfaooo "i dont know much about that franchise....except the volleyball game of course" lmfaoooo brother same. When i say I was surprised AF when when my brother said he picked DoA and it was a fighting game.........
To be fair DOA 5 was a pretty good fighting game lol
Did I miss it at the start? Where in Japan are these hard-off ?
Locations always in the description bro
Please do a whole video browsing through laserdiscs

Did you have perhaps some kind of excel sheet with all the price that you paid? So its easier for us to not get overpriced
10:55 whats the handgun with bullets is that "airsoft" ?
Yeah Airsoft is huge in Japan, I think it even came from here originally. There's always a massive section for it but I skip over it since I'm not sure on the YT guidelines on it lol

oooh a megaman battle network vpet whit some chips that is kinda cool ngl
I realy want to know how much loose gamecart games go for. Especially gb stuff since those games are small and region free.
CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME IF THE STORES HARDOFFS AND BOOKOFFS SELL OR HAVE ANY NEW NOT USED STUFF LIKE GAMECUBE CONTROLLERS AND N64 controllers
That's a lot of caps lock lmao, yeah they have new items here and there but it's not common. Usually it's behind glass and super expensive, there's a couple in the video here.
lucky to see CPS2 arcade boards there.
what are the reasons stuff ends up in “junk”? are they not working or just incomplete/untested?
"Untested" and no warranty is the general reason. I've never bought anything that didn't work from the junk section to be honest.

@4amLaundry thanks for responding man. I love your content
Is there any English stuff worth bringing back to sell? to put back into more gaming ofc
i also want my stuff with OBI
I want that nami figure uwoah
Nice video, I like you got show price too. Next time, I hope you can show some ps4 games and console too. At least, we can know the price there.
Thanks! I think you're best to join the weekly livestreams for that.

N64 definitely seems a lot more popular in the west than it is in Japan.
Yeah, Playstation had the country in a chokehold around this time for sure
sick miata
Had to throw it in there haha
You look like Shane Dawson in your thumbnail 😂
It will not be much a few years from now when all PlayStation games are 20 plus, like North American region games.
Why would you buy 10 copies of final fantasy?
I don't lol I was just joking with how ultra common this game is here. They're like coasters
Retro Gaming (business) hunters killed the game. Thank you.
