For anyone confused why you're seeing this episode again:
Some of our patrons noticed Othais had completely left out the Danish Krag's second locking lug.
If you've already seen the episode and want to catch the big alterations, start at 26:24 and rewatch the animation at 35:01.
C&Rsenal remains committed to providing our viewers and patrons with the most accurate information available. We have corrected our mistake, added a bit more depth, and re-uploaded an improved episode for you all.
Aw man, and here I thought Christmas came early this week.
It’s ok, I’ll watch it all over again 😘
Mistakes happen, thanks for correcting it and keep up the good work. This combines 2 of my passions guns and history. PS. I would not have noticed it if you didn't say.
You guys are awesome. I can't express how much I enjoy your work. Thank you.
I admire the dedication !!!
Catch Othais and Mae in the hit documentary Danish Krag 2: Locking Lug Bugaloo
Internet 'Astounded'!!! Or just for the real world, oops! Sorry folks.
I thought this would be interesting to me because I'm a Dane. It turned out to be interesting because it's a damn good story, told by a wonderfully engaged and knowledgeable host. Kudos to the entire production crew for this wonderful tidbit of Danish/Norwegian small arms history.
That's how we can tell that you genuinely care about providing the most accurate information you can. One of the many reasons I've seen every single video on that channel at least once, usually more.
*Deja vu
: I've just been in this place before*
Always good to see a new C&Rsenal video, Mk 132 Mod 1 will be watched as if 'twere Mod 0.
Mk 132*
Having Midsommervisen play in the background while May was shooting was a classy touch.
A very classy apology for the butchering of "Madsen" and "Rasmussen".
Fine. I'll watch it twice

Always glad to see these notifications come up, even when they're for corrections.
And thus, pleas and supplications are again brought forth to the insane machine god only known to the masses as "Al'gr-ythm". Though there are many factions and schisms among the tribes who live under its shadow, they all must acknowledge that regardless of what they call it, some greater power controls the harvest.
Engagement for the engagement god, comments for the comment throne.
Praise be to the Omnissiah.
Finally finished binge watch all of the episodes, loved every minute of it. It's so fun to listen to history. Good job.
Glad to see the Danish Krag getting appreciation. I'm ready for the Norwegian Krag episode soon. I own an 1894 & 1912 pattern Norwegian Krags.
Lucky man
>Knows from my patreon update that this is a minor correction
>Clicks play anyway
>Lets it play in the background muted so they can get their view
Hallo from Denmark, I'm 26 years old and that makes my grandpa and great grandpa soldiers in the time when we used the Danish 1889 Krag Jørgensen rifle. I own my great grandpa's original military photo from 1906 and they all stand with their Krags, so that is the one without the safety added. My grandpa used it from 1949-1950, so long service history. Thankyou for all the great vidoes, I watch almost all of them because post war late 1800s to ww1 is my favorit period in arms history and war history. Keep up the great work guys! you are awesome :D
Always happy to see another C&Rsenal upload! Always happy to watch another C&Rsenal upload with improvements!
This is why ya'll are so awesome. Trying to present to us the most accurate and comprehensive information.
Sooooooooo are missing locking lugs the only way that we're going to get an upload at a reasonable hour? 🤔😂
Normally I get peices of a rifle embedded into my person when that happens.
I know it’s time to go to sleep when c&r uploads
Reasonable? Depends where you are in the world. Here it is 11 at night.
@@betaich Aha nochn Deutscher hier :P
I’m gonna try to remember to comment every time I watch an episode cause I watch them all a fair bit
Really just fell in love with this channel
Glad you're enjoying it!
@@Candrsenal the ultimate sleeper channel for me. I wasnt ready for how much i love it. It seemed at first to be longer and more detailed than i cared for but its exactly what hooked me. The show is so excellently balanced and produced. It caught my interest for the things, particular firearms but the real fun is getting a better understanding of mindsets attidutes and cultural development behind the development advances in technology and how that really just kept changing things so quickly and dramatically. I'm learning about a lot more than the firearms. I can go on and on about how much i really appreciate the show. its more like a digital museum than a show.
and i watch them all out of order
Well, I repeat myself then: does anyone else hope we will get a Berdan episode before the year is out?
Generic Person X
You mean the primer caps for dual holes? Much easier with the boxers.
@@joachimb9305 I am more interested in the story of his rifle, which of course would include quite a few details on the ammunition and its primer since that was part of the package he was selling. I find the most all the blackpowder big bores, and their frequent use in WW1, oddly intriguing.
@@genericpersonx333
Ah, the rifle ofcourse!
But yes I agree that it’s fascinating with the use of black powder rifles in ww1. Black powder rifles seem so ancient, while at the same time I know that you can get a black powder rifle that’s so old it doesn’t need paperwork - and it is accurate out to nearly 1000m.
I wouldn’t want to operate one in ww1 though!
Sometimes I start to late to watch an episode and have to watch it twice, because I fall asleep. Not your fault. I always watch it with open eyes till the end on the next day. And often, I watch it at that seconde time from the beginning, because I love that stuff and there is usually so much background information, it is no fault to watch it twice. So, this episode will get it`s thrid watch from me. Keep up your awsome work.
Hopefully the re-upload doesn't hurt your metrics too bad.
There is some good and bad. The worst of it is that we lose the "wave" aspect of the algo. Better to be principled than to be popular though.
@@Candrsenal I get what you're saying but forgetting the second locking lug doesn't exactly make you Logan Paul.
I have an American Krag-Jørgensen carbine that I inherited from my dad, who apparently bought it because he just had to have the model of gun that Teddy Roosevelt fought with on San Juan Hill. It's a really slick gun that I would definitely take to the range more often, if it weren't somewhat valuable. Anyway, it's cool to see the Danish version.
Another great video. 👍 Liked and shared.
As a descendent of Norwegian and Swedish immigrants I’m fascinated to learn of the seemingly outsized role the Scandinavian countries played in European and US gun development.
well it generally helps for recognition if your country was a major player in a big war relatively recently
thank you for putting out informative content and being one of the best shows on the interwebs
Great news. I've even gotten some of my non-firearms friends to watch your channel based on history and mechanical engineering.
The Krag-Jorgenson rifle's are fascinating to me and thet are ones I would consider collecting. Thank you for your hard work.
I know I'm late but I've watch this show from the early days and well done always entering end informative thank you.

Hey, I figured I’d finally add my name to the comment pile. I’ve been sending some of your videos to buddies who have been playing hunt showdown, both of which actually don’t live in the US, and both of them can’t wait to visit and go shooting!
I only wish I had some of these old firearms to let them shoot!
Okay now I see the difference both in the explanation and animation. Thank you very much.
Love you guys. Engaging the YT algorithm. I hope. Keep up the good work.
The Krag loading system does remind me of my mother's purse when i was a child. I'd love one for nostalgia reasons :). Great design also
A gun so good they did the episode twice.
I love deja vu it's like I know what's going to happen
If you love history especially military history you must watch this channel
My grandfarther was mobilised as a conscript during WW1 and had the Krag-Jørgensen (either the long rifle or the carabine - I was so young when told, that I don't know which: I do remember he had pinched both the short bayonette and the really long sword bayonette.
As to recoil: He remembered (and did he remember?) during an exercise shooting blanks. The blanks were normal cartridges with a wooden plug instead of a bullit.
Now he saw a hare and wanted to supplement dinner, so he unplugged the wooden plug and put a small stone in there - replugged, and fired at a hare. (Let's say Elmer Fudd?).
The recoil was so harsh that he had a sore shoulder for weeks afterwards - remembering 40 years later.
Just for Your information.
The danes adopting a metallic cartridge rifle in 1868 just screams "We got badly beating in a war in part because we still used muzzle loading riffled muskets while our enemy was using dreyse guns".
Normally I hate the "Please like and subscribe" thing but Othias is so charming and they work so hard I'll be damned if I'm not liking and sharing.
Hey I love you guys sorry I haven’t been consuming your content as often as I used to, my bad guys!
Keep it up!
People who watch Marvel movies eagerly wait to see the extra scene during or after the credits, but not all Marvel movies have such scenes. People who watch C&R videos eagerly wait to see the "War Were Declared" scene, but...
Nice to see the Danish Krag's two lugs compared to the American One Lug bolt. Good to see a good error correction. Fantastic work as always.
Do you own an American Krag? My US 98 built in 1899 has the second locking lug that butts up tight to the receiver. I have no idea what Othais is talking about!
@@Master...deBater Don't have a Krag so I wouldn't know.
I’m a Patreon subscriber and truly appreciate your work. I will start commenting to help your algorithm.
It is great that some people still care about correcting mistakes and removing fiction even if that comes at some cost. You are probably going to see a lot less watch time and engagement from the reupload, and The Algorithm probably won't look to kindly on you.
More people need to watch!
Looking forward to the unloading podcast that gives the behind the scenes pandemonium that must have been happening when the error was realized after publishing.
Lol we were just discussing what to go over on the podcast yesterday too and then that happened
Another great Episode!
If you are on the fence on giving this one a no based on slow loading, would you revisit your soft yes on the Lebel? This seems pretty superior in every way to me. All of the downsides are even worse in the Lebel.
Thank you both for such a though presentation on a cool rifle.
God you guys are great; love what you guys do together; I get no one is perfect but I love you guys; God bless you brother
Have you met my friend? His name is Albert Gough Rhythm. He goes by Al, and can be a fickle man.
I really like that flannel!
The song is: Midsommervisen with score of Lange-Müller and lyrics by Holger Drachmann; but the interesting part is that I think the vocalist is Aksel Schiøtz - about the prettiest tenor voices in Denmark - ever. Probably the 1941 recording as he has a slight vibrato - indicating somewhat later in his carrier? But that is just my lousy ear........
I hadn't looked at the Danish Krags much, just the US ones. It's good to learn about their origins.
If you are confused by the name "Christiania" it does NOT refer to the part of Copenhagen that has been populated by squatters since the 1970es, but the city now known as "Oslo".
Thank you from this humble dane for covering this Danish rifle. And nice touch using "Midsommervisen" as soundtrack for the shooting segment.
And you at least tried with the pronounciation, and almost succeding
"Amager" is more like "Ah-mahr", the G is silent!
If you know what to look for/know what you are looking at you'll notice that Sgt. Shultz of "Hogan's Heroes" fame carried a Krag-Jorgensen throughout the 1960s TV series.
I don't know why but I love these guns
I was wondering about the second locking lug, much appreciated!
Do you own an American Krag? My US 98 built in 1899 has the second locking lug that butts up tight to the receiver. I have no idea what Othais is talking about!

Fun fact, sgt. Schulz from Hogans Heros usualy carrys a Krag-Jørgensen rifle (standing in for a Mauser rifle)
Great series
Great episode
Great show
You know better than I do but I don't know of any other rifle, that doesn't use a changeable box magazine, that you can reload with a round in the chamber and bolt closed than the Krags. They may not be my first choice to go into battle with if I could choose but they were unique and innovative for the time.
love the video. Thanks!
What was the song played during the firing segment? It was lovely
Interesting about the half cock safety and the 1910 upgrade to a real safety. I have a 1907 KJ later modified to .22 by Otterup Geværfabrik. It does not have the 1910 upgrade, which if i understood correctly is a rarety?
Nice job guys.
Adding a comment because KRAG! And the algorithm. Plus, who doesn't like Remington Rolling blocks?
Evidently the Danes wanted the RRB’s replacement for one reason or another
Even after that animation I still don't understand how the last round makes the turn to come out into the path of the bolt
I've seen other research that, based on loadings offered by Norma, the bullet shouldn't be exceeding 2100fps. Any thoughts, Othias?
Thanks keep up the great work
My 1899 model 98 Krag's second locking lug butts up tight to the receiver...not sure where you're getting your information!!!
Thank you
always nice to see another video even if it's a correction.
Thanks for the great content
TYVM for the video!
Looks like lightning strikes twice sometimes!
Are you guys gonna do an episode on the US Krag carbines by chance?
another great vid, keep up the good work
23:16 So about this little hole... Maybe I missed it in the video, but i'm curious to know about it.
I was so confused until I read the comments. I want a Krag.
Still great the second time around.
Great work as always.
The Rube Goldberg loading arrangement that doesn't lend itself to chargers and looks really expensive to manufacture seems appropriate only for a small, wealthy nation (Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland) or one with a small army and the potential for big spending (United States). It was a transitional design moving from the Kropatschek style tube/chain detonation magazine toward the eventual Mauser style. The Krag-Jorgensen line was a dead end and the United States wisely dumped it for a pair of Mausers - the Springfield 1903 and Enfield M1917.
One issue I was surprised was not mentioned is the tendency of the bolts without paired locking lugs, offset evenly, to "stretch" over time, leading to increasing inaccuracy as the rounds fired accumulate and the metal in the bolt distorts. guide.sportsmansguide.com/tips/spomer-shooting-rear-locking-lugs-explained/
Correct. However, Sweden was at the time extremely poor (thus; Minnesota) and wisely chose the Mauser.
The Danish Krag were outdated. It has a side loader but user have to hold it sideways, open that hatch, put individual cartridges in and then close the thing.
Sure, the capable to drops each round in without the need to press them down are nice, but if you also need to hold it sideways...it just take time.
Was this before or after the gewehr 71 experimental horseshoe magazine?
Olé! Engagement achieved.
I have a feeling those soldiers who were manning the Danish forts during the German invasion in WWII were probably cursing as they had no chargers and were single loading cartridges into their magazines as they were getting shot at by MG 34s and MP 38s.
It would be used rested from their fortifications, typically.
Comment for the algorithm. Would love a krag, but I’ve not seen one worth buying since before I wanted one
Man I love me some Krags.
Commenting for the thing
Good stuff
Rewatching bc I'm curious how othias is gonna do the correction

Just getting on the algorithm train 🚂🚋🚋🚋
Wooohooo! Train!
I do love the Krag for some reason! Not as much as a 95 Winchester carbine? But close!
