I want to learn Chinese so I don't have to read subtitles when watching a Chinese drama. This is by far the BEST course out there. I listen to Joyce every morning on my way to work. It's only been a couple of months and I am understanding more and more when I watch Chinese TV.😀
I spent HOURS looking for this, it is the BEST for making me feel I am progressing, as there is so much for the other teachers to organize, some very cute ones with cartoons are good but this teacher will support my duo lingo work, as I love movie learning too, thanks again to this team, I feel I understand how Chinese people think more, with grammar, their minds!
This series is very well made, making learning so enjoyable. The explanations are clear and easy to follow, and you won't be able to resist watching it all the way through. Great job
The Chinese takeout near my house always asks Ni How ma? while taking the order. Now I know how to respond in Chinese. Thanks so much. Will try it next time 👍
i really enjoy learning chinese with your videos of everyday chinese, i think its the best learning courses i've found, Really you did a good job with your short comprehensive videos thanks alot!
The content is great but for people learn Chinese: WE DONT ASK HOW ARE YOU IN CHINA! we tend to ask a more specific question to start the conversation, like did you sleep well or have you eaten something.
It has been good to find this channel because I am from Mexico but I have fallen in love with a wonderful woman from China, we both communicate in English but I want to learn a little of her language
I have been looking for all different sources to really improve my Mandarin, and this so far is the most well-made series of courses I have found. I will go to your website and purchase anything I can find just to show my appreciation for your effort. Xie xie ni
Yes, this course is very good! It's not just about parroting the phrases one doesn't fully understand, like in other courses - instead, it explains every little bit of the sentence what it means literally. It connects pronunciation with hanzi characters and pinyin transliteration, which is very helpful at the beginning of the learning process. Also the fonts are very readable (well, most of the time) and stripped off of all those unnecessary calligraphic squiggles, This really helps in getting the gist of the shape of every letter instead of getting distracted by all the unnecessary details. It also shows how to build sentences out of simple words. This is how language courses should look like :) 谢谢老師
This is exactly the type of learning that I was looking for. Explaining the grammar rules as well, to give you a great foundation to learning Mandarin properly. Love it. Thank you so much.
Oh my god I love this learn thank you so much for this chinese class ❤❤❤❤❤❤ I alway watch Chinese dream now I understand it very well and china is my dream country

I travel to Dalian the last December, I realize that the native people when met me the first time told me 你好, obviously no one ask me 你好吗 because I was a stranger for them and the people I met more times never ask it as well, instead I seen in the University the people rarely said 你好 to others so I ask and they told me it's not necessary, and in my native language Spanish I never say Hola to all the people just like How it's going? Or hey, but anyway I love to say 你好 to everyone because I know they dont know what to say just like me if they do it to me haha

I 'm seeing each vidéo ten times and I'm writing the chinese sentence (kanji and piyin) each time for memorisation, thanks for your work, If I had money, Iwill help you. Each work must be payed.
Namaste ! How can we understand/ distinguish words in chinese.. Like many times phrase with two or more terms is a single word in chinese. However they may have actual meanings in their individual form also.. ??
Wait I have a question. You know how you said in ep 1 about saying “Hello” or “Ni Hao” to elderly people or people of seniority is different ( here we will say Nin Hao instead). Does that also apply when asking them how they are? Or does ‘Ni Hao ma’ applies to everyone regardless of seniority or age?
Hi, I want to ask about wo ye hen hao, the tones are 3rd tones ('v'). There is rule if tone sounds 3-3, it changed to 2-3. If tones 3-3-3, it changed to 3-2-3. How about with tones 3-3-3-3? Which part of tone is changing when pronouncing?
Hey, do u guys know what kid of keyboard type is it ? i would like to take notes from lessons but i can see on my macbook 10+ types of chinese keyboards :D
Of course, the latter refers to asking someone about their health status, while ni hao ma can also be used to inquire about someone's emotions or to greet them, similar to the meaning of ni hao. However, in China, people rarely use ni hao to greet them, and the most common way of greeting is to say hello or hi
So, my question is, why do courses keep teaching "ni hao ma?" as if it was a normal way to greet people every day and an equivalent of "how are you?", when, in real life in China nobody really uses it that way? People say things like "Ni chi fan le ma?" (did you eat?) or "ni qu nar?" (where are you going?) but no one say "ni hao ma?". At least not to say hello.
It seems that "ni hao ma" is used in formal situations, like meeting some at work. More familiar people to you you would use " chi fan le ma" or "chu qu a" or some other informal greeting.
I wonder the same thing about "Genki desu ka" in Japanese, which is similarly translated to English as "how are you?" but is actually a specific inquiry about someone's health. It's like greeting someone in English with "Hi! Are you okay?" If someone said that to you, you'd wonder if you looked sick or something, right?
When you get single characters such as "Ni" in their chinese characters - will they always be written as those characters even within different contexts and within different meanings of "Ni"???
No pinyin ni has many different characters like你 泥 腻 拟 逆 and so on. So we use characters instead of pinyin. If we only use Pinyin will bring misunderstanding.
1 Knee How ( reminds me of school playground bully who gave me a “dead leg”, then said HI ) 2 sort of the Royal ‘we’ for ‘I’ but ‘wo’ 3. the ‘Hen’ is VERY ( whatever) 4.

chinese characters are not called kanji. that is japanese.
That's true, they are called hànzì 汉字。But the characters written in Chinese and Japanese are (almost) the same.
So if you were greeting a friend would it be 你 好,你 好 吗 or just 你 好 吗

I don't KNOW the answer, but gammatically it's logical to expect to use the formal nin.
All right. "Nin Hao" is more respectful.
I Love the Chinese class
