    In this tutorial I show you how to create a unique one-of-a-kind pendant using very few tools. The format is visual with subtitles and geared for those with experience in wire working and not for the newbie beginner. This video is suitable for the hearing impaired.
    No two will be alike and you should let your own creativity flow with this one instead of trying to copy my example. The design possibilities are endless. This is suitable for colored aluminum wire, and you can give it a try using 3 pieces of wire too.
    Tool & Materials:
    Bail making pliers * Round nose pliers * Nylon pliers/flat nose with taped jaws * Full flush cutters * 18-14 gauge dead soft wire (2 pieces 14"-24") * Focal bead with hole large enough to fit wire * Liver of sulfur and superfine steel wool (for antiquing copper)
    I used 2 pieces of 14 gauge pre-antiqued copper wire @ 20" for this project. The finer the gauge, the shorter the wires needed. You will have to experiment.

    I stumbled on this "style" by accident, just playing with wire by myself at home. I was so excited to learn it was a "style" and there are "real" artists out there who design this way on purpose! I truly love this one, and all of the work you share.

    Those swirl earrings are graceful and elegant! What kind of sandpaper do you use? Do you wrap it around the wood yourself? Where do you get it? I love the rosettes! Thankyou. Is jewelers rouge also used to polish them? Does one apply it with a cloth? How is this done?

    • @makingiteasywithliz
      @makingiteasywithliz  5 років тому

      Hi Amy, thank you for watching. Those are pendants, not earrings but you could make earrings. Wood...I'm not sure what you mean. I use 0000 steel wool or a polishing pad, jewellers rouge and a cloth would work. I pre-patina my wire with liver of sulphur gel. I have a video on how to use that.

It is so soothing and it makes me want to keep at it. I have a question. You indicated that you use 20 inches of wire. Is that for each piece of wire or 10 inches a piece? I am really enjoying your videos. Thank you so much for sharing your very valued skills. :-)

    This was so cool. ( and I really liked the soothing music!) My husband makes Poly Clay Cabachons and I have to come up with creative ways of showing them off on a chain, leather, etc.. I love making my own bails but have very little creativity when it comes to making bails. I'd love to make a bail like the way you started this one but wonder how I could use part of this style to either glue it to the back of his Cabachon or coil the wire through a hole on the top of the pendant he makes. (Hope you understand my explanation) I would love, love it, if you made a video on how to make an amazing bail, that does not require wire weaving, to either glue to a cab. or poke one or two of the wires through a drilled hole at the top of the pendant. Pleeeze....

    • @makingiteasywithliz
      @makingiteasywithliz  8 років тому

      Hi Gloria
      I have used this same design for beach glass and cabachons. You have to pop the cab into the wire work and make sure the wires are holding it in. If you wanted to make it glue friendly, just create a flat spiral base to glue it on after making the bail. Experiment with thinner gauge wire. Thanks so much for watching...not sure about a video but will keep it in mind.

    Hi Liz, I like how you always include the small details (ie. push under the coil) as they can make a huge difference, I have had to figure out myself. You do wonderful work. For this Pendant would it be possible to use a smaller bead (less weight) and turn it into a pin, how would one go about this? Thank you in advance.

    • @VM11238
      @VM11238 8 років тому

      I'm not Liz , but sin,ce I have the experience I'd like to give you a response if I may. When you begin with practicing her design you may or may not stay on the path And copy it. you might "feel " on taking it a different route which is where your creating begins to take hold. So in this I'm saying if you choose to use a smàller bead or even 3-4 beads that becomes your çhoice your design creation. you could even decide to take what she showed you and add more swoops ànd swirls to make it longer and wider if you çhoose. Your design. All this to say small beads or even different shaped beads are no problem here. :)

    • @annhopy2220
      @annhopy2220 8 років тому

      +VM11238 Thank you very much for your answer. What I am looking for is how to make a pin out of this as I have not made a pin ( like a lapel pin) before. The smaller bead(s) would be so the pin is not to heavy. Would you know how to turn this into a pin?

    • @VM11238
      @VM11238 8 років тому

      +Ann Hopy replied to your comment and it disappeared! it was a bit long to re write now so I will leave this here so you can get an idea of some of the techniques you need ,the catch and the spiral to the pin. I will come back añd rewrite it later ,unless the pasted version works for you. It is a design which allows you to change any pendant into a pin and back. :)

    • @annhopy2220
      @annhopy2220 8 років тому

      +VM11238 ~~~~ Thank you, I will be looking forward to your explanation, sorry your other reply disappeared.

    • @VM11238
      @VM11238 8 років тому

      +Ann Hopy Sorry for the delay! Had to use my phone as my tablet kept shutting down. Alright You will use two wires and fold them in half as she is but instead you fold the center flat and not round them out .One change is you will lay them sideways flat. Using half round wire wrap about3-4 wraps about 3/4 to an inch down to secure the wires as they lay 4wires side by side both sets folded. Once they are secure Bend the top section with the folds into a hook.this wiil be known as the catch. It is where your pins point will hook into. Using your round nose Bend up one set of the folded wires(2) just as she did after completing her circle. follow her instructions swirling and curling the wires . now when she adds the bead ,YOU will add your choice of bead or beads but here you will NOT Bend the wire up with the bead and then spiral.YOU will spiral UNDER the bead without folding it back to lock the beads in and fold the spiral if you'd like up against the bottom of the bead snug against the bead opening.extend the wire towards the back straight(90 degree) .Now look at your catch in the back.Measure how far it sticks out away from your piece. Bend the other wire just shy of that measurement with flatnose pliers.now your wire is going in the direction of the catch. this wire is your pin wire. :) right at that new Bend use your round nose to coil a tiny spring.his wrap it around about 2-3 times ending up with your wire still going towards the catch(To understand this part watch the video I sent you above) the spring is what causes the wire to have some spring back,causing it to lock into the catch. Squeeze the spring ringlets close firmly with your flatnose pliers. If you need to stiffen this pin wire tapnit with a rawhide hammer. Lock this wire inside the catch .Cut the tip of your pin wire ànd sand it to remove burrs that could damage your clothes. Make the end pointy. go back to the front and continue designing the with the rest of the wire as she has done. Or design it your own way. Hope you get what I'm trying to tell you here, hope it helps! Good Luck!
