Well if you guys did not know an S-400 from the Russian-Ukraine border shot down a Ukrainian Su-27 piloted by veteran pilot Col. Oleksandr "Grey wolf" Oksanchenko over Kyiv. From the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv to the Russian border that is approx 310+km. That's a hell of a long shot and probably a new record of the longest ranged confirmed kill by a SAM system in history. Patriots can't do that. RIP Col. Oksanchenko

Actually that never happened it’s proven by CNN, BBC, and ukrinform. It was actually a Russian pilot that died. Russia hasn’t shot down a single plane or taken a single city since February 2022. Former 24F, HAWK radar mechanic, that was the whole point of having a battalion with 3 battery’s of launchers. While at least one battery was on alert, covering us, one or both of the other battery’s could move to a new location. Plus each battery had two platoons with 3 trailer mounted launchers and one platoon with 3 tracked launchers that were up and ready to cover us as it took an hour to move and another hour to set up. Patriot came after I left the service but I imagine it was the same drill, one or two battery’s would provide air defense while the others moved to new locations. So that there was never 25 minute gaps in air defense coverage!

It may not be a missile system but in the U.S. you can legally own a 105mm howitzer. It’s classified as a Destructive Device, so it needs a Federal background check and tax stamp

It’s due too the s400 only firing a missle a day. Russia has lost 2000 S400 in February 2022. That is one of the reasons russia lost the battle of bakhmut. Russia has more losses than Ukraine. CNN has proved that Russia will lose the war. Russia is losing.

@jer67 patriot, is much like s400 in the fact it is an anti air asset that focuses on aircraft, where it separates itself is that patriot has proven itself also against cruise, ballistic, and "hypersonic" missles where s400 has failed to date.
the s400 is not a catch all system and was originally created with the mind set of taking out awac and bombers. though due to poor design and lack of field testing/training they have had a bad record in ukraine, could this issue be fixed with training and and upgrades in the future? possibly, but historically speaking russia has failed pretty bad in those categories all its existence.
now if you'd like a better explanation of American layered defense systems such as aegis, or nato over all we can have a talk, but if you gonna make idiotic statements like patriot doesn't do well against drones, well... just remember russia is 12 times larger than ukraine and still can't gain air superiority, has lost 16 ships/subs to a country with no navy, lost over 40 generals to missle strikes, and has had 37 air bases IN RUSSIA hit by old s200 missles retested with ground assault.
The amount of missiles and explosions I saw in this 60 second clip was quite impressive

The 25 min warm-up is a recommended practice. In an emergency you can squib the thermal batteries and launch immediately. That said, you'd normally just keep at least one battery warmed up at all times.

The 25 minute time being quoted is how long it takes to fully set up an entire battery on a brand new site. In reality a "hot site" thats established anticipating threats can be ready to launch interceptors in a couple of minutes
Patriot system proved its a joke in Saudi Arabia against Huthies. All they need is to launch bunch of cheap drones and exhaust these systems. Don't forget they're so expensive to operate as well as each missile cost hundreds of thousands. All in all this war showed how these air defense systems can be easily bypassed by drones

Patriot does the job, S-400 is all hype.
The patriot failed in Saudi Arabia defending against very basic drones and ballistic missiles coming from Yemen.
Thats because the Patriots radars are fixed and the way the Saudis had itdidnt had the radar turned into them. The Iranians exploited that by going to the outer side coverage of the Patriot systems.
I don’t think patriots were made to detect ballistic missiles.

Except the Patriot actually has had all the recommended Maintenance done on it for its entire life and has replaced thinks that are broken and worn.
Unlike the Russian flagship which (according to their own maintenance report) had only ONE CWIS style Vulcan gun working and the engine could only run at 30% off full power and could not turn as fast as it was supposed to be able to without big damage and this was their flag ship in the Black Sea.
So tired of people comparing in the actual army versus a theoretical one with the Russians just because a country can manufacture two or three of a certain military weapon doesn’t mean they can mass produce it effectively for combat

My MOS was a 14T. PATRIOT missile launching station enhanced operator/maintainer. Our equipment was always already up and running and would not take 24 minutes to get firing. Nice video though, I guess? Lol

S400 has very low score in real fields as we saw in Syria and Ukraine. But Patriot has shown its capabilities in many diffirent climates from Uae or Saudie Arabia to Israeil to syria and.....

The enemy aircraft would need to get through the Awacs and alert fighters of the American airforce.
The Americans use their overwhelming air superiority and the best early warning systems. So patriot batteries would have plenty of time before anything makes it in range.
Um how do you defend against let's say an incoming barrage of cruise missiles or ballistic missiles?

Most of the US defense infrastructure is tied to early alert systems via satellite or microwave comms, reaction time is only a minute or so between detection and response and since we can detect launch anything ballistic can be intercepted as it reaches the midway point. By definition anything ballistic is predictable as to where it's going to go no matter how fast it's going
Actually you are mistaken about the PATRIOT launchers ready time. I was a PATRIOT launching station operator and when we were deployed we always had 2 up and ready to launch aside from a few steps that took only a few minutes to do. Those steps were only safeties to keep accidental launching.
...and if it was the same for many S400 launchers at the ready, they would beat the readiness of the patriots.
Russian's Quality Control doesn't exist because the oligards are racking in the military hardware. Russian reactive armor plates are metal boxes with rubber inside.

@@silversurfers7 I mean that’s well and good of course I’d like my fighter jet or helicopter to be hardened against missiles. I think the U.S. kind of went in a similar direction for protection but instead of hardening aircraft in the event of a strike they designed the F-22 and F-35 to evade using advanced missile deterrent systems or otherwise be less detectable with stealth composites. I don’t know the actual effectiveness with one technology Vs. the other though because we haven’t seen extensive air to air or surface to air engagement against those models, along with so much of the specs still being very classified. Be interesting to really know what was under the hood though 😂

This and Iron Dome are two different things. Patriot/S-400 are meant to shoot down aircrafts while Iron Dome are just a C-RAM.

Theses "facts" aren't exactly true. It takes 20 minutes or so to get a Patriot missile system set up. Once it's on line, it can be launched at an adversary within seconds. The Russian system actually takes longer for initial set up, with radar links, etc, and its radar isn't nearly as flexible as the Patriot system. Software must be upgraded to recognize new threats, such as HIMARS, which is why so many HIMARS are reaching their targets without being knocked down.
You don't know shit about how these missiles work........ Just do research before saying "software needs upgradation".......
But s400 isn't yet deployed in Ukraine, how comes you say hirmars, only s300 vm, burk and some pantirs are only being used in Ukraine, himars can't get through when they are not combined with barrage of artilleries to overwhelme
